I'm happy he did 9 years of family feud instead of not doing the show for long, and being in a few more movies... Some of the shit he did comedy wise on the family feud still stands up today in terms of being the only guy I can see pulling it off as smoothly as he did. He was way ahead of his time, and a very down to earth people person.

In doing so, Ryan's Hope and Family Feud were pushed back, and the ratings were hurt for both, as RH got dropped by affiliates for local news and FF had to face The Price Is Right. Richard Dawson and the Ryan's Hope cast did get some vindication, as Loving wasn't a good rater- in fact Loving never achieved the ratings Ryan's Hope had.

IMDb says that Chuck Woolery was considered for the role of Damon Killian but Woolery was busy with Love Connection and Scrabble, but I would've loved to have seen Chuck Woolery take on Arnold Schwarzenegger but oh well

@coolwafferman Agreed. I liked Ray Combs as well but, Mark Goodson should have put his ego aside and let Dawson return to the CBS version in 1988. The show itself would have been in better shape because Richard really cared about it more than any other host. We also would have never have had the go through all those host changes. Dawson could have hosted until 2006 (the 30th anniversary of the show) and Steve Harvey could have took over that fall. Steve is great on the current episodes.
To be honest Richard Dawson’s role was fantastic I’m not saying it wasn’t but it’s somewhat hard to take seriously when you’ve been watching Family Feud for so long

Dawson was a great game show host, but a beast of an actor. A criminally underutilized talent.
