Thanks for watching this new series with our buddy Rob Ruscher! We've got lots of great Beyond the Spec ideas in the works for future videos but would also love to look into questions you have about different gear. Let us know in the comments and we'll get to making vids!

Strange to me - taking into consideration that Slog3 has much more information - that the skin looks much much smoother with Slog - which is the exact look I want - but as I'm not experienced with color grading I would prefer S-Cinetone...is there an opportunity to get the same smooth skin texture with S-Cinetone without it being tons of work in post?

If your end result is just rec709, then I guess S-cine.
But I prefer HDR content and in sLog 3, I just tell Resolve that my input colour space is sLog3 and it automatically applies s-cinetone colour science to it! Then I simply tune it for the highlights, shadows and blacks

I REALLY appreciate this honest assessment. Ever since S-Cinetone launched, I egged Sony and its lobbied vlogger/blogger army to admit/emphasize that it's not a LOG format - Sony always skirted that issue, letting sleeping dogs lie. Meantime, union-guild-types at video boutiques dating back to analog broadcaster daze would crow about how S-Cinetone is great because it can save the massive energy they claimed that it takes to just drop a LUT onto S-Log3 footage and tweak for a sec.
It's time to finally start spreading the word that S-Cinetone is usually a bad choice, but was a marketing tool to sell cameras, pretending that it would become a primary part of workflows. It never will.

    So..im pretty a "a6500" newbe user..btw i used already once used a Siii & slog3 qnd happy about both..especially on low light.
BUT..as a soolo neewbie shooter i still just put EV+2 (or 1.7) exp compensation and a set of autoiso of 1 of 2 step of difference max to dont be afraid the exp to change especially when i move with my gimball on live event.
Now...i got again a SIII ...BUT the EV physic wheel is broken and stuck in this one(on 0.3) so i cant set the auto EV option....
and i have a (1st for me of this kind of video) modeling shooting sunday ( for free/portfolio..following a friend potographer)..
BTW...ill still stry to shoot on a SLOG3, changing manually all the exp par. all the time OR,as im not a pro...i'll rather go for the S-cine ? (never tried)
    * sorry for the long mindfuck 😬

Can you immitate the S Cinetone by manually adjusting the settings for the A7R 4 users? Can you tell the trick, if you are allowed?
