Living budget Philippines.
Life in the Philippines.
Retire in the Philippines.
Foreign Expat in the Philippines.
Saving Money in the Philippines.
Angeles City Philippines
About me : Retired American Expat Brian & Filipina wife Luisa, living in the Angeles City / Clark Pampanga Philippines.
Haven't watched your videos in about 4 months but I can say you certainly look healthier and sound happy. Good luck and God bless brother.
You look so much better. What ever your doing is working for you.
I'm not a people person....I couldn't bear having that many people in and just outside the house.
No peace & quiet
Great video, my wife and I kind of did the same thing two years ago we built a house 80 km south of Manila. For a while, we were happy but now we just miss everything that we had at such a convenience in the city. This will be our last holidays here and then we are going to move back to Manila, we just put our house on the market. I think whatever makes you and your wife happy is the most important family as always first.
Philly, you Sir are #1. I know a class act when I see it. You are admired wherever you go. Filipinos like you😊. Happy 4th ❤🎉😊
You have the right personality and perspective on life to succeed there. Not to mention a pretty great wife. I'm not as remote as you, but my little slice of heaven suits me fine. Last census our village has 500 houses and 1400 residents, and I get along just fine. It's all in the attitude, you either fit in or you get out.
Happily my reputation in the village is the guy who's always smiling and kind to the neighbors. I'm happier and healthier here than I've been in years, and slowly getting my weight down. Bless you and your family, please put Lots channel in the description so I can follow her as well.
I've been watching your channel for at least seven years. I don't remember ever commenting but you look healthier in this video than I can remember seeing you. Clearly your move agrees with your body. Continue the Journey.
I think you made the right choice. I live rural on mountain east of CDO. Only issue is local pharmacy not stocking my bp meds and insulin so I drive to
BALINGASAG once a month. Good clinics near as well as a private small hospital. We added on to existing house. I put in running water. Done pretty much as you did. Wouldn't change a thing. 😊
I too have Starlink and stream philly on my 55 in Samsung. Starlink is the answer to province life.
Really nice, Brian. You look healthier and happier.
You're living in one of the most beautiful tourist islands in the world, in your own home, and with your big happy family. You're not there like a tourist on an extended vacation but since you are retired and don't have to go to work or be somewhere everyday, then you'll truly enjoy and make the most of your permanent vacation this time because you're on a new and different location that's has a different community, topography, and vibe, and it's a vacation island.
I can see real excitement on your face besides the more joyful mood, and I'm honestly just so happy for you. IMHO, you really are living the dream retirement.
The negative comments, are just smothered by the positive vibes your putting out there Brian great video thanks for your new visions ❤😂
Brian you look more relaxed and you can see it in your face. If that is the results of your move then you have got it going on.
Happy for you there. My gf wants to stay in cities for markets and medical. I'm coming back this August to start work again on our house.
I do love Philly, but I'm starting to fear the video that starts with, "I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor..." 😂 Love to you and your family, Brian!
He might last a year, but the frustration of people alwaays around. Not being able to enjoy sitting in kitchen alone. After seeing the food you buy for a week gobbled up in days. oectation you pay for everything, pay for school, birthday parties, rice fir all. It gets really old and really exoensive. Missing panda exoress delivery. Missing western food.
Yep experienced that on holidays, so god forbid what it’d be like living there full time. Not for me. Seriously looking at Thailand now.
I thought that too. Guess what? It didnt happen. When I got back to the states I couldnt eat Western food. I was looking for rice and fish. Didnt watch tv anymore. Had no use for toilet paper. Etc..😢
In Phillys older videos for example, he was looking for a temp gauge for his oven. Now they use an open fire. I think Phillys TV, washing machine, stove wont get used much. His Western habits are slowly leaving.😊
Philly, I must say you are looking really good these days. I think province life suits you well!
I'm glad your embracing the change. Sounds like your doing well. thanks for your great vlogs. You got this.
I am enjoying your new adventures
Glad you like them!
Better you than me 😂. If there ain't no SM or Marquee Mall close by, forget it. I didn't spend years slaving away in a hospital and the army reserves/state guard to sleep in a jungle in my old(er) age. Fuck that. I remember one time training in the army, me and a bunch of other soldiers would talk about missing our own beds, taking showers on our time, sitting on a porcelain toilet and not a porta potty with Chuck Norris jokes written on them, no mud or sand in our boots, and waking up on our time. Yeah, I'll take concrete jungle life anyday. Try working in a rainy muddy combat support hospital mopping off mud all day and I'm a medic/nurse. Shine that. Jungle life is for other people. I'm sure other military vets are putting me down, but hey... I'm a city boy by heart.
I didn't mention the critters too trying to eat you alive while you slept in your cot!!
20 minutes out of Angeles you can have a country house for rent. No need to move to the province.
Having a big family around is a good thing. Especially when you’re older. There’s always someone there to help. Enjoy the adventure.
We are both 57. That's kind of cool. You are looking younger by the day. Congrats on your new life!
You look better and relaxed. There is family that you know will have your back. Life is good Philly. Mrs. Philly looks happy as well. Enjoy province life with your tribe.
Family all living in your home . You have family taking care of you if you get sick . A good life.
Great to hear you're doing well Brian. Interesting to hear what you say about the water and electric. Our house in Dagupan was built really quickly and is now nearly finished, but it's taking a long time to get the water and electric connected. I guess then it's the same wherever you are in the Phils.
Hi Brian, my wife and I are one of those who never commented but we decided to now. We’ve been following you about three years now and we’re happy that your new journey is making you appreciate life more!! We look forward to seeing all the new places you’ll be touring and around your place.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks to a wise diabetes doctor in Bacolod, I changed the way I was treating my diabetes. This doctor told me I was taking too much medicine. She cut my daily insulin amount to less than a half of what my American doctor had prescribed. Plus I went from 20 pills a day to 3. My daily sugar levels are now fantastic (~90 to 150).
My limited impression is that American doctors want to drug you up because we have money to spend from our insurance plans while the Filipino doctors want to just help where needed because their patients usually have very limited budgets.
I feel better than I have in twenty years, (I am 60.) I am keeping up with my much younger Filipina wife. Less is more. God bless the Philippines.
Clean air, less stress, less noise, less traffic, organic food..tons of benefits.
It's fun to see you doing stuff and then watch your wifes video filling in even more details.. complementing each other's videos. Even though she may struggle explaining something in English, we know exactly what she means because we saw you before it after explaining it again.. Very cool to see her same day and take on the same things . 😂
Way too much family around for my taste. I like a bit of a quieter home. With that many people it would be to much noise. I also like privacy. But if you can tolerate it Brian then good luck. Wish you well. 😊
I must admit, it is very nice to see the “new” Philly with such a positive view of your new surroundings. Maybe all you needed was a change of environment. I hope you continue to maintain the positive attitude, it fits you well.
Philly of the Jungle…watch out for that tree.
Hi Philly you look more happy down their and am enjoying you new videos keep them up thanks
Happy to go with you on your journey 👍
Never ever be in boring situations mate more power to you
Life is a journey! You stated it well. I could adapt to the province but am pretty spoiled by the conveniences of the "big" city although even Cebu City has many items you cannot find here and you have to order delivered. Best of luck there.
I rarely watch videos in the Philippines since I'm quite familiar and comment on those even less. However, I have always watched yours because one reason. Complete and total honesty. You don't feed viewers a bunch of crap and blow smoke up the wazoo. I know what you do is not easy and it's time consuming to say the least, but I for appreciate all your efforts and candidness. Best of luck and please keep up with the great videos.
I enjoy your journey there but also lotlot is filling in a huge bunch of your lifestyle. She really is showing the details. Good for her and her channel.
I rarely comment but,I've been watching for about 3.5-4 years. I always enjoyed your vlogs from Angeles City. This a new chapter in your life,I've really liked watching the new material. You've got an awesome channel and enjoy the simple life, brother!
Brian, Congratulations on your new, exciting jungle journey and thank you for taking us all along with you. Go back and look at your videos in months past. You are looking well and 5-10 years younger now. Province life is agreeing with you, however counterintuitive that may be to a lot of people. No regrets. And, yes, rain IS beautiful! All happiness to you, Lot & family. Godspeed.
filipina outsmarted you big time brian😂
Hi enjoying the province life and brownout each day and enjoying the life
Ok. You enjoy the GLAMPING. I did the Jungle in 1979. Right down the street from where you are now. Just Continue The Remodel. DO NOT STOP UNTIL IT IS COMPLETE!!😮
you might see some interesting wildlife heading for high ground with the rain... maybe keep an eye out on the woodline once in a while
*Can hear the rainfall during this video Philly* 🇺🇲
Seems you have lost some weight since moving there.
God Bless you and your family.
The one thing that I didn't like about communal living in a place where I was the odd man out is that I wasn't the king of my castle. I like most mature men like being in control of my surroundings, and you will find that when it comes to family issues, just how much of the family you really are . When you were in Angeles City, you were the king of the house and made the major decisions. Also, when it comes to paying the bills, as you are the one with the pension, you get the pleasure of paying them. You're building a house, and there are certain things that you expect, but you might be mistaken, so just kind of watch and see how things go . I know that you just didn't fall off the coconut truck and probably are way ahead of me, but I am just sharing my observations, and it's my experience.
I gotta say you look a lot healthier being in the province. I don’t see any dark circles anymore. 👁️
Looks like you made the right decision to me, your looking more alive, you can hear it in your voice. 😊 I can hardly wait to join you in your journey as you discover your new surroundings.
Watched your channel for years now, i gotta say you look about 10yrs younger 😮👍 Jungle life looks like it's doing good things for you 🙂👍
Thanks 👍
I am 1 who is really enjoying this part of the adventure. I am loving the new vids from you and Lot also.
Looking good Byron! No more bags under your eyes!
Brian..😂
Hey Philly, so glad that you are adapting well and are a blessing to Lot's family. This move has genuinely invigorated you! Keep vlogging and I will keep watching!
Thanks so much
Philly, don't waste your time with miserable, haters, trolls. Brother, your and Lots happiness is all that matters. You have a loving Filipina family brother. F"__k all these scumbags who hate on you and your happiness. God Bless you and your family. STAY HAPPY😊 GO PHILS!
Coming from a Pre-Diabetic, and I did not get this info from any doctor, they don't want you getting better. That would kill their guaranteed revisiting paying customer, but I digress. Anyway, start a spreadsheet, either on paper or on your computer, and track your glucose readings over the next three weeks. With your readings though, you're doing it wrong. Here's what you do. Before eating, do blood test #1, then eat. 30 minutes after finish eating, do blood test #2, then wait another 30 minutes, and then blood test #3, and again 30 minutes before blood test #4. Now you can watch the rise and fall of your glucose readings and from your notes of what was eaten, you see what raises your numbers faster or what raises them slower, or what doesn't move them at all. Just doing one blood test an hour or two after eating tells you nothing. I did this some years back and got a good baseline of what I react to and how long after eating it affects me. Oh, and Province Life is the best life!!! We're just north of you in Southern Leyte.
We are heading down to Southern Leyte next week. My wife was born and raised in a remote barangay there. Aussie expat retired in Cavite.
That is my main concern about moving to the Philippines. Between my genetics and American lifestyle, I developed Type 2 a long time ago. On one hand, the walking and getting out of my stressful work will really help. On the other, Filipino food.
My internet searches tell me that insulin is available, and costs about 20% of what I pay here.
@@northernbohemianrealist1412 Lifestyle I think is the biggest deal breaker with most with food and accommodations being the top two. That and not being open minded enough to remember that this is a developing country, and some things we take for gratin as basic infrastructure back in the state's may not even be in some places here, or be sub-par. With so many Filipino's with Type-2, insulin and Metformin are widely available. Not being extorted by US doctors and those never ending follow-up 3 or 6 month visits just to get prescriptions renewed is so nice here.
You'll be glad you kept that gas stove when you want to bake some stuff....I only have the range but when I want to bake, I get frustrated.
Great video as usual. Please don't forget to update us on living expenses there.
Enjoy the province and enjoy the clean air be safe 🙏..
*Bless na Bless Luisa n Philly* 🙏
Happy for you guys, been fun to watch your journey. Wish you nothing but luck in the future.
Thanks so much!
Philly, as long as you and your wife are happy there's nothing wrong with having family with y'all.
Just find a local diabetic doctor and get an A1C done every 3 months just to make sure you know your true situation as far as your diabetes is concerned...you don't want to walk alone on that issue. It's easy to backslide. If you stay under 6.5 you may only need to see a diabetic doctor twice a year.
Thanks for Sharing this with us, Philly. Safe in future travels.
Sounds good, Brian. Happy 4th of July from Central Florida.
Province vs. Angeles City whatever makes you and the family happy! I love both just have to find the happy balance of each.
Glad all is well Brian !! Good for you and family , enjoy !!
You are living a good life brother, don't let anyone change your mind.
Welcome to my life for the past 13 years. My 5 cents of advice is Generator, we (foreigners), need electricity as much as water. Most of the time, the Power behaves itself on these little islands but during & after a Typhoon, it's anyone's guess. Depending on how many Droplines drop, determines how long it takes the Power Company to get the power up again. Could be hours, days, weeks or even months. We've done 8 weeks after a Signal 5. No power for that long would send most people round the bend. I ended up buying a smaller unit, in case for whatever reason, the larger unit fails to fire-up in the heat of battle, they're cheap enough these days on, you guessed it, Lazada. The other pearl of wisdom are those 30-100 Watt Solar Lights. They're piss-cheap also & light-up around the house & they turn on automatically. We have them inside the house as well, in case we don't want to start the Genny. We have a 30min-1hr rule. Depending on what we're doing, we wait that long before we pull the cord & start her up. And the last advise would be to strongly consider an ATV. Sometimes, after a typhoon, with flooding & down trees, my ATV is the only thing driving around. I love it. No License or Rego required on the island. That is all.
Solar is worth it they make led lights that charge all day great option, after a typhoon its hard to find gas for a generator
That's why God invented Jerry Cans. Also, Typhoons are usually followed by days of shitty skies which can hinder Charging. A Genny can also charge all your batteries. Lastly, unless you're willing to invest in a truckload of Batteries, Solar can't keep a fridge cold, can't keep ice frozen & Ice Cream becomes Cream. Plan your shit & stash your fuel, it's the only way.
Spent 3 months on Dalupiri island Philippines. It's nice there but i got a little board. You would need something to keep you busy. I'm use to staying busy in the USA. But i enjoyed the Island life better than the City.
We bought half a Acre (30m x 60m) on the beach so hopefully next trip ill have the property to keep me busy. Im a farm boy so i enjoy working on property.
Philly, you gotta do what works for you. I couldn't stand one night there, but that's me.
I love the attitude, Making life a little easier but not instant "my way" changes.
Hahaha Great Stuff enjoy yourself and Good Luck. Rooting for you and your family.
You are looking healthier too.....
Joni Mitchell said it best...You don't know what you've got till it's gone
Happy 4th Brian..
So glad you are enjoying it. Siargao is amazing and can’t wait to see more of your content
Probably just me but I’m a city person and thus, I haven’t really enjoyed your island videos as much as those you did in Angeles City.
I understand.
Philly, I’m glad to hear you are adapting to the environment. Stay hydrated. Probably should wear super thin long sleeves and jungle/hiking pants. Keep those legs covered! One day at a time. Enjoy your day 😎
Thanks for the tips!
Glad to hear all is well 😊
Glad to hear your adapting to the new lifestyle.
Thanks!
Love watching your jungle life's journey, Thank You for this review i watch both your vids and Lots vids and it puts a smile on my face again Thank You !!!!
Our pleasure!
You’re doing great… you’re up for an adventure - it’s keeping you young 👏🏻👏🏻
Love your show no bull just life great to see keep it comeing😊😊
You look healthy and relaxed Brother
Even though you might not have every convenience that you had in the city living in the jungle I think that you wil not move back to any city. I say this because the province/jungle makes you feel more alive, fresh and healthier. Hope that this part of your journey brings you the best part of your life and I'm looking forward to your family journey. Enjoy your life like I can see that you are doing Brian.
You are doing very good on your blood sugar
Hello Brian. Yeah, just like in our barangay on Leyte, the ladies are up early doing the laundry and sweeping etc, before it get too hot. I enjoyed it. As long as you have WIFI, it's pretty nice. Most everyone is super nice. We're heading back at Christmas time.
One question I have is; why did Lots turn off her comments?
You tube glitch.
We fixed it.
I think she's expecting negative comments for her spending birthday for the extended family. Just my opinion.
I shall go back then to the vlog.
Great vlog. ..things are getting better every day. ..and yes live is a adventure and you got to do it. .don't look back. Me and my wife are going to spend some time on your island next time we come back to the Philippines. ..good luck.
