This video will show you some “only in the Philippines” moments and perspectives of our friends and myself about retiring in the Philippines.

I lived in California for 30 yrs but went back to Philippines in 2015 at the age of 56 to start a business without knowing na retirement ko na pala ito. Currently I am enjoying the life in the province. I owned a condo in Manila, good businesses, rental properties and a Phil pension and US pension. God is good to me…

Also an RN here, can’t wait to retire soon 😊 My husband and I will be splitting our time between the US and the Philippines. We’re in our 60’s ! Been here in the US for 31 yrs. There’s not so much time left. We’re looking and hoping to at least good 15 yrs health permitting to see beautiful places. So nice to see fellow Pinoys here aiming the same to retire in our native country . There is no place like home! God is great !

Hello Ate Gi! After breakfast, I opened my iPad as I usually do. Guess what! Kita ko kaagad new vlog mo and watched it .
Do I still want to retire in Phil? Absolutely!!! I told my husband I think I would be happier to retire in Phil. We are now in our 70’s it’s been long overdue to go home. After 43 years in America I am certain it’s about time. Bacolod, where our families live, is better compared to Manila. Building a home is not in our plan, just rent a comfortable house . Matanda na kami! Just live life to the fullest in Phil. Our kids here are okay, thank God. Thinking of being away from them sometimes makes me wonder is it worth leaving them? Hindi naman kami laging nagkikita. Busy sila. I know there are lots of things to consider before going home…selling what we have here ang making arrangements with our finances, medications, etc. one thing for sure, I’m all ready. BTW your vlog is worth waiting. Excited what the new topic will be. God bless 🙏

It’s absolutely time to retire for you. Ganun din mga anak namin. They live close by, but I don’t see them. They’re busy with work and when they’re free, they’re out with friends. But I did the same thing when I was younger. So I understand. Maganda nga daw sa Bacolod. One of our friend in the video, nag side trip doon. Ininggit kami. Hahaha! Enjoy your forthcoming retirement!! I’m sure it will be worth it to be there.

Have you thought of the cost for healthcare in the Phil. A relative way back 15 years ago suddenly was diagnosed with cancer. In a span of a few months the bill reached 15M, he died but had he survived or live longer, cant imagine how much more will it cost. No wonder you hear stories about affluent families selling all their assets for medical bills.

@@will12219 I agree. I know of someone who was financially able to retire in the Philippines, but because Phil. does not have 911, she was not able to make it to the hospital alive. Had she been in the US, buhay pa sana s’ya. … but then, It’s all in God’s hands.

Yes, $2,300 a month of Social Security in the US is not enough if we don't have any other source of income. There are a lot of bills to be paid, and it can be overwhelming.
But retiring in the Philippines is good for money and a bit more comfortable to live.

I want to give you KUDOS for a well told story. For someone still doing full time RN work and doing UA-cam in her sparetime I commend how well you answered the Q: Do we still want to retire in the Philippines - through visuals... One recommendation that you should try is ship cruising. If you live in the Bay Area - I recommend taking a Royal Caribbean cruise (Navigator of the Seas) from Los Angeles Port. Keep doing videos - your strong suit is how well you stick to one question and answer it through the visuals/audio that support or contradict the primary question. BTW - if you decide that you want to try ship cruising and have any questions - I can answer those for you. I am just an avid cruiser and I am not a travel agent selling anything...

Yes! It’s nice in the Philippines to retire . I was living in North America for 45 yrs and my very first time to see Philippines again . My husband is Caucasian and it’s not really for him to visit Philippines. Yes! Things change but some are not . My experience in the Philippines is okay but there is a lot to consider living in the Philippines. I don’t like the heat, the traffic, and over crowded people, the pollution etc…. The poverty is really bad. We visited resort and other places … it’s nice but I think it’s for us my husband doesn’t like to leave in Asia, and one I
Noticed corruption will never change. Some places are clean but most of the places are filthy and very unsanitary, no toilet paper , you have to bring your own … the motorbikes, the jeepney are everywhere and no rules in the Philippines. Dogs are everywhere 😀😀. So in my opinion visit Philippines is nice but to leave in the Philippines is a no no for me. Health care is also the issue especially if you are aging . This is only for my own preference. Thanks

I just went home this April and was amazed with the changes in the Philippines. It’s much , much cleaner now. Public toilets now have tissues and water and a regular cleaner, just have to pay 5 or 10 pesos. There’s also a lot of developments . Go to BGC, Makati, QC etc, it’s much more improved, I didn’t see homeless people in the streets and no jeepneys, maybe it depends on the area you live just like in the States. But over all for me, there’s more quality of life in the Philippines …

OK, stay where you're happy and contended. Just go home for a holiday. Seemed a good idea too. A retiree like me is planning to retire in my hometown. Yes, there are still not so pleasant sights in the rural areas, it's OK with me I grew up in that environments when I was young before I went overseas to work, get married and divorced 11 yrs ago. It doesn't bother me the unpleasant things in the Phil. I will live my remaining time on earth enjoying life with my families, friends, the beach, the culture, nature and the food. Philippines that's where my heart is in my old age. Mga poverty, asong layaw, madaming langaw, maingay, mainit, I can live with that, that's where I came from and that's where I am going home to. For me. Life is short to worry about the unpleasantness of life. Most of them can be managed. Good day everyone.

If both you and your husband receive pension benefits, you will enjoy a comfortable financial situation. Traveling to neighboring Asian countries will also be easily achievable. As a foreign national married to a Filipina, we are looking forward to retiring in her province of Laguna in 12 years and enjoying a relaxed post-retirement life.

I thought of that but I can't handle even a short vacation there. I've been away from the country for almost 40 yrs, the convenience of living in the US is incomparable. Too overwhelming with noise, cars, motorbikes, people everywhere, sari sari stores everywhere, madumi ang paligid. Even the provinces are already overcrowded.

"Moai" for Okinawans that live in a blue zone is one factor that contributed to their longevity. Being with friends and family that support each other definitely makes our life happier and longer. My ultimate goal is also to retire in the Philippines with my family. I love your Channel Ate Gi, just keep it going!

i'm having goosebumps while watching this, i don't know if retiring in the Philippines is a sad or an exciting reality dahil after experiencing life outside of my homeland with all the luxury(!?) that countries like USA, UK etc can offer, deep inside i'm still longing for life in the Philippines, sabi nga nila there's no place like home, i love this video dahil ganito ang nararamdaman ng maraming OFWs who spent most of their lifetime working abroad and in the twilight of their lives being able to go back where we all belong...

retiring anywhere is a matter of mind set and the willingness to adjust...ung mga nagsasabi tungkol sa healthcare...know that medicare covers emergency and i advise get dual citizenship so you can avail of philhealth and of course senior discount...my dad died in the US after a minor outpatient procedure so hwag sabihin n perfect ang healthcare dito...plus why do you want to live longer when your quality of life is no longer enjoyable?

God-willing, my wife and I are planning to hung our stethoscopes in a couple of yrs after more than 3 decades working in the US. We are planning to embark on a new adventure in the Philippines. No, we are not retiring just yet but we envision to do something productive and worthwhile to give back to the community where we plan to stay. Hopefully, the Lord will continue to bless us with healthy bodies.

A brotherly reminder to all of us, OFWs and non-OFWs alike... pls read Luke 12:16 - 21. This is more important than the heat, traffic & retirement. But if you know this already, simply live in the province, theres less traffic there. Or stay in the US or wherever your heart leads you.

I have a choice whether to migrate to Canada or Australia. But my wife and I have decided to retire in the Philippines. It's not all that bad , we made a good decision and we have adjusted quite well. One thing we didn't do was to save a lot of money because for five years we basically used up our savings. The two condo earnings are not enough if you want a comfortable life. A good pension of 1500 to 2000 USD will go long way and should make your life in the Philippines more comfortable. My sister in law who was a head nurse in SF is happy to retire in the country. She wanted to be with her sisters and nieces and nephews.

Ate G it is heart warming to know that you enjoyed much of your vacations. I like what you said" you and the group agreed not to have many complaints during your trips because it is the reality in the first place like the hot weather, the hustle on transportations being our country compose of island provinces, the horrendous traffic, the bureaucracy etc and many others" those are some of the many complaints of some western tourists and expats but they are foreighners and it is understandable for them. It is very touching that you and your family indeed love our place our culture and wanted to reconnect to our great heritage, our cultures and traditions. Keep safe always kabayan.

The one thing that frustrated me when I went home last 2021 was that things move so slow in the Phil. Processing papers, documents, legal stuff just takes years to get done. But when you talk to the people in charge, they always say “ madali lng po yan”. My concept of madali is days not months or years. There is no efficiency at all. Every time you have to process anything gov’t oriented, they ask you for several photocopies of documents. Why is this? Even dealing with private companies like banks and hospitals, there is so much red tape involved. My patience was tested. All other things I could live with like the weather and traffic. But I could not imagine having to deal with the inefficiencies in my old age. It’s as if, the motto back home is, to make “everything as difficult as possible”. So I guess I will not be retiring there, esp not in a concrete jungle like Manila. The provinces would be nice to visit. Goodluck to everyone who will retire back home.

We love road trips and done them in a few countries pero mas masaya sa Pinas, love interacting with locals sa sariling wika.
