I was 21 in 1991, and bought a gold turbo 2 w/ 20k miles. Put every paycheck into it for 3yrs straight. Intercooler. Exhaust. Chip. Turbo. Bigger Fuel Injectors....suspension...etc etc. Best car I ever owned - wish I had saved it these past 30 yrs. Thanks for taking me back. This car was waaaay ahead of its time back then. It has aluminum susp arms, aluminum spare tire, and aluminum JACK from the factory. Throw in the all mighty rotary and its a wrap. I devoured MANY cars back then. The best was a hopped up GN built for dragging. And the RX7 can corner too. As far as reliability I sold mine with 170k and she still ran smoooooth like factory. xoxox

Lots of great memories in those cars, won lots of traffic light drag races, and did 142mph on Bayview Blvd in South Jersey 😲 and I'll NEVER forget it, the car was incredibly stable at those speeds.. I'd kill to be able to own another one

I had the opportunity to drive one of these in an autocross back when I still did that, I loved it. It wasn't an anniversary edition or nothing or Turbo, but it was still fun
The convertible version had a little flip-up wind blocker behind the seats. It was perfection. My wife and I used to put the top down, flip that thing up, roll up the windows, crank up the heat and go on country drives on the coldest of clear winter nights.
f* man, that first person view of going into the driver seat, hearing those beeps, and startup noises made me nostalgia super hard. I daily drove an FC around the Great Lakes region for 3-4 years about a decade ago, rain, shine, and snow, even blizzards. I miss that thing. Sick throwback, Donut
Late to the game, but a couple items: The wheels are different left & right. The design was intended to draw air from under the car, over the brakes, and outside the car. I had tire guys not pay attention and mount directional tires onto the directional wheels incorrectly and made them re-mount everything. The turn signal and cruise control stalks looked like pinball machine paddles. They took less movement than longer conventional stalks. The cruise control side was especially easy to use, requiring less movement of your hands than even the steering wheel mounted buttons do today. I like the white mirrors. I had a white '86 that was vandalized and required painting one door and replacing both mirrors ( which only came in black then). So I had the mirrors painted to match, giving me body-colored mirrors before they were offered.

Okay so like I really like his more mellow and passionate approach to the show, and I think he's a great addition. My man doesn't deserve to be compared to James and should keep being himself to add a new refreshing twist to B2B.
I don't really understand why everybody says that fc looks like a 944, for me they are 2 very different sports cars, the only thing that they have in common is the fact that both have pop-up headlights, other than that very different design.
Buddy in high school had white "tenth ann" just like it never realized how rare they were. It sat to long and he had to rebuild the motor cause seals dried out.
I remember my 8th grade Algebra teacher, a blond hottie named Ms. Glennon, had a brand new red RX-7 at the beginning of the school year, but she had used it to go up to Napa, Calif and it had ended up not only being flooded out, the car actually floated downstream....she seemed genuinely sad, she loved that car apparently.....
this is the one car that when i see it, no matter where i feel like someone puts something very heavy on my chest, get filled with sadness and depression knowing that i wasnt alive in its era, and that they are so freaking rare and expensive for me to get. this car is truly the only thing that gets me feeling this way especially when remembering that my dad had it in beautiful red color when i was young and he sold it :(
I love the rx7. Our family has a 1987 fc with only 70k miles and was only owned by one owner. It was kept in excellent condition. So far I gotta say I love that thing

I know that it was the best car I ever owned. I had a non power steering model, the handling was just superb. Balanced, great feel, great seating position, great dashboard. The engines are awesome too if you change the oil regularly, mine never broke down once. You get used to being one gear lower than in a piston car. Such fun. I wish I never sold it. The shift buzzer and interior gave me such nostalgia. These things love to be revved. If you have a 3 inch straight through exhaust they will set off many car alarms if you are not careful.
Mine also has manual steering. I bought it new in 1987 and test drove a GTU. But found it too sensitive. So I bought the LX. That also means that it has 14 inch rims.
I’ve owned a 1987 RX-7 LX since new. It has always had the shift buzzer. Always fun to enter an on-ramp in 2nd, floor it and when the tachometer beeps, I slowly shift to 5th. I’m no race driver, but the handling of mine is so good. It is effortless to keep it where I want it in the lane, to the inch.
I use to own one of these until a friend wrecked it. It was a blue 88 and it was definitely a machine all its own after a few aftermarket parts. I remember how it struck fear into me when the rpms would get high, the sound it made and the feel you got while in the driver seat was scary. Nothing I have ever driven has given me that feeling it was a unique experience, I never really got use to redlining in that car. Plus for a little 1.4 rotary the back end always wanted to slide out.
Mine had the sticker. I had an '88 Black Turbo II. An absolute beast. Even quicker with HKS exhaust and hi-flow intake. I clocked a 14.2 1/4 mile in mine. I really appreciated that Mazda didn't even release this with an automatic transmission. It was a driver's car.
Good video and that Series 4 10th anniversary is amazing! The optional rear louvres are very rare by the way. The FC convertible was the only '92 model because the FD was an early model year release as a '93 (March-April '92 I think). I just wanted to add there is a shift light in the cluster Mazda added to help the driver get better mileage from the thirsty rotary. There was also an auto adjust switch (normal & sport mode) on the center console that controlled a solenoid on each strut. The four inch rear speakers are in the strut tower in an enclosure and their own amplifier. They have dynamic control bushings in the rear that change rear toe to aid turn in at speed. The GTUs had an aluminum hood and was the only N/A RX-7 to have one. The Japanese models had rear seats that couldn't fit anyone with legs. I love the FC RX-7 and I still have my '86 Sport that I bought in 1992 when I came back from Japan.
I had a 87Turbo 2 and also this 88 anniversary fresh out of high school. I was doing mobile car alarm installs at the time. I would spend so much on fuel I swore I would never buy another rotary. I wish I still had those cars, lol.
Had an FC convertible for a while, felt so solid and right on backroads. Started to flood on hot start and realized I was never going to learn a whole new type of motor, got rid of it. Amazing cars.
It's not bad to bring a new person into the show, we appreciate the change. Just to ressembe Pumphrey, dont need to copy James' movements, he is unique.

Fun Fact: I own the trailer built by Rod Millen that hauled his FC RX-7 and the 4WD Pikes Peak RX-7 rally cars around the US...it also hauled his Mazda 323 GTX, and when I purchased the trailer it came with a set of race used wheels from his 323 GTX on it...it'll be reunited with Rod soon so he can restore it and put it into his collection...

Facts #2 and #4 available to anyone who has read the owners manual. Fact #3 is wrong in that the GTUs is NOT the TII platform without the turbo engine. The GTUs is completely the NA drivetrain and does not have the heavier R-type transmission, driveshaft, differential and half shafts of the TII. It just has some TII suspension and body options (like mirrors).

It has aluminum susp arms, aluminum spare tire, and aluminum JACK from the factory. Throw in the all mighty rotary and its a wrap. I devoured MANY cars back then. The best was a hopped up GN built for dragging. And the RX7 can corner too. As far as reliability I sold mine with 170k and she still ran smoooooth like factory. xoxox

Incredible cars... When I was a kid (back in the day). I was lucky enough to own four 2nd gen and one 1st gen. Lots of great memories in those cars, won lots of traffic light drag races, and did 142mph on Bayview Blvd in South Jersey 😲 and I'll NEVER forget it, the car was incredibly stable at those speeds.. I'd kill to be able to own another one
This really makes me miss my FC.

Hey man! Great vid but I have one complaint: don’t try so hard to be like James, instead, just be you. I’m sure everyone will accept it
I agree. All these guys are tryna do a James whereas Filipe was just himself which I was fine with cause he isn't overdoing it

Cool to see he's slowly getting his own style, and getting better in front of the camera.
keep on going m8
f* man, that first person view of going into the driver seat, hearing those beeps, and startup noises made me nostalgia super hard. I daily drove an FC around the Great Lakes region for 3-4 years about a decade ago, rain, shine, and snow, even blizzards. I miss that thing. Sick throwback, Donut
Copying all of James’ moves doesn’t give the same feel.
exactly

Thanks a lot
Yes
They should try to do their own thing. I think that is the best move.
I have an 86 FC. Naturally aspirated 5 speed. 149,000 mile survivor. Not quite as clean as this beast though. It is a masterpiece of oil and steel.
Late to the game, but a couple items:
The wheels are different left & right.
10:52 "why wont my wife look at me anymore?" lmao
The FC is still my personal choice out of all the RX range, I do also like the RX8 when working.

It's always rotary time when you worship at the altar of the Dark Lord Dorito.

I actually really like this guy now. He’s got his own style going
I think he's doing a good job hosting. James is of course the goat but this guy is still good.
yeah, donut can't rely on James all the time
0:33 worst rotary impression ever. 😭
I miss James on Bumber2Bumper 🥺

GIZZMOTORSPORTS how much did you spend, and how much you recon a non turbo would gobble up?
Had an FC convertible for a while, felt so solid and right on backroads. Started to flood on hot start and realized I was never going to learn a whole new type of motor, got rid of it. Amazing cars.
It's not bad to bring a new person into the show, we appreciate the change. Just to ressembe Pumphrey, dont need to copy James' movements, he is unique.
