We do not have a wire diagram for this vehicle. You may want to post this over on Thirdgen.org it's a really good message board for the thirdgen Camaros & Firebirds. Tell them 1aauto.com sent you over. Lot's of great tech help on these cars over there.
@liljSCK We carry the complete motor assembly. If you need the all of the bracketry to go with it, you may need to source that from a salvage yard. Here's a link to the Camaro pull down motor on our website. 1aauto.com/1A/TrunkReleaseLockSole/Chevy/Camaro/1AZTM00001
Thank for the detailed videos. Your techs are very helpful on all the videos I've seen to help accommodate me with the vehicles I'm working on for both myself and helping out friends and family. Your parts are always in good condition, and your selection is very wide for both my vehicles my rebuilds. Truly a pioneer in the automotive replacement parts industry. Keep up the great work.
@saldav420 We don't. We do carry a brand new motor assembly though. Here's a link to them on our website if you would like to check them out. 1aauto.com/1A/TrunkReleaseLockSole/Chevy/Camaro/1AZTM00001
The issue could definitely be with the housing, You will have to check to see if there is damage to the plastic casing that the motor rests in or if it is unaligned from being opened and closed.
The issue could be with the hatch or the motor. The problem could be related to either the motor not realizing the trunk is closed all the way or the trunk could possibly not closing all the way causing it to stay on.
If the hatch isn't closing tight enough, there may be some adjustment on the motor to bring it down tighter. Just be careful that you don't adjust it to much, because you might have an issue with a hard to open hatch. Little adjustments go a long way. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
2:33 - The switch on mine had 2 clips either side I detached but even after that, something's holding it in the middle and I can't get it off! I've got an '89 Trans AM GTA Convertible - it looks like the same assembly but I'm not sure it is based on how damn hard I've pulled on the switch and it still won't come off!
Unfortunately it sounds as if you have some serious wiring issues. Something like that would have to be brought to a professional to be properly diagnosed so the car doesn't burn to the ground from a bad power wiring grounding out on a part and catching fire.
on my 91 camaro my trunk will shut down but it does not snap to the motor. so even though is closes, a person can come right up to my car and open the trunk without a key or anything. this problem also makes my trunk look a little like its not alined right. do you think replacing the motor or housing will solve these problems?
Would I be able to buy the whole setup? not just the trunk lid pull down but I do need the trunk lid pull down. I just bought a 86 camaro and needs some help.
Okay, so I bought a 89 Iroc the other day. And I went to go replace the hatch motor. And I saw a lot of screwed up things. A couple of wires were disconnected and torn apart, and a lone clip I couldn't find a connector for was there. If you could help at all, that would be great.
At 7:53 what is "this" called?? I've been looking everywhere for what that thing is called because I need one. Also, will that "this" fit onto an aftermarket pulldown motor, the black ones, rather than the large cylindrical metal pulldown motors?
As this post was 8yrs ago it wont help Conner, but it may help others. The 'this' is the 'polarity changeover switch unit'. Basically the small switch that pokes out of the unit is changed from the 'push up' mode to the 'pull down' mode when it is operated by the two small tabs on the push rod shaft. To answer your other part of the question . . . . YES it does directly fit onto the modifed motor housing unit.
I just watched your video and have a question. I just did the same exact install with an OEM motor and plastic gear however the motor is NOT working. It’s not one of yours, but I was wondering if there is a small white wire that has NO connection to it? I have one bit can’t seem to find a spot to connect it. Also I’m thinking my new motor is bad as I’m not getting any power movement when I re-connect things.
I wish I would have watched this before changing my pull down latch on my 91 RS. Instead of just replacing the motor, I replaced the entire housing and now I can't figure out how to get that part that unlocks the lock back on properly. Can you assist me with this if possible?
1aauto. at 8:37 you put on those plastic bushings. Do you have at your site or know where to find those? im looking everywhere and i cant find them. any info is helpful.
@1aauto So i got the motor in and it worked perfect for its first closed trunk. But my trunk wont open now. Not by the key or button. Even tho the button didnt work before. Do you have a clue why it wont open by the key? Im completely lost.
I have an '85 Sport Coupe with a hatch problem. The hatch doesn't stay closed. When pulling the hatch down all the way it seats nicely, but as soon as I let it go it opens up. It's as if it's not catching or something. I'm not sure if the SC's have the same motor setup as the Irocs. Help would be much appreciated. Right now it sits in storage with the hatch open all the way, lol.
i have a 92 bird, no one has the the 92, they all say 86-90, when i push the button for the hatch, i can hear the motor, so i think the housing is broke, will i 1990 motor and housing work?
does that motor run off the car battery or another power sorce somehow because mine worked fine then my car battery died and the hatch motor did not work so i charged the car battery and it worked fine again and now it dosent work any more but nothing is broken and the motor still makes a slight noise like it is going to move but it is dead
You might be able to get them from the dealer. I'm not sure if the aftermarket has picked up that particular part yet, we currently do not carry them. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
I have a the hatch motor issue in my camaro. The reversing switch is bad, and it has been discontinued. Do you have a replacement for it? For anybody else with the same problem, I set the motor to the lowered position by running manual power to it, and left the hatch release button connected. If you do this, you can use your hatch like a normal trunk; and you don't have to worry about shattering your motor housing because it is not in a position where it can be damaged.
hey 1AAuto, i have a 90 Iroc-Z and i i need to find those plastic bushings, and i can't find them anywhere, do you know where i can find some, i need to replace them all, due to them falling apart from over the years from thm sitting, please help
We do not carry them. You may want to try the forum Thirdgen.org to see if one of the members can point you in a direction. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
When I closed my trunk earlier the motor turned on but did not pull the hatch down with it. Now the motor is constantly on and won't turn off so I had to disconnect the harness going to it. Any help would be much appreciated.
This is a great vid. But, why not pull the three bolts and couple grounds, and remove the whole assembly? Its so much easier to do on a bench rather than hanging over the back of the car.
Hey, I'm looking to ditch the pull down motor entirely and maybe go with a regular manual latch. I hear the best way to do that is to pull one from a car that HAS a manual latch... Does anybody know what year vehicles/ camaros had a latch I can use my in 3rd gen? Thanks!
+Fish & Fishing The pull down motor is our part number 1AZTM00001. 1A Auto sells the part at the following link: www.1aauto.com/1A/TrunkReleaseLockSole/Chevy/Camaro/1AZTM00001?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony

Now that there exist 3D printer.is time to create some made of metal. I sold my TA with new motor and Assembly, now 4 yr later I bought my car back and is broken again 😢
Did I miss where he replaces the motor? The title says its about replacing the motor, which is what I want to do. I guess I just wasted 12 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
Ha Ha Ha yeah I spotted that. He replaced the 'motor/new housing' as a preassembled unit. Note that if your using the original OEM motor and only intend to repaced the plastic housing then ensure you order the corrext plastic housing because the OEM housing and these Dormer third-party housing are DIFFERENT. If you use the OEM motor then use a OEM housing.

We currently do not have a latch available to us for the rear hatch. You may need to check your local salvage yard. Thanks for watching.
Should've put new guides in while you were at it.
Great video, I'm glad to have watched it, didn't know it would require that much. Your video's and advice are awesome.

+Mike Mckenzie Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
It may, you might also want to check all of the parts and see if anything else could be preventing it from closing all of the way.
@liljSCK You may want to see if the plastic guides are moving correctly. It should glide in those channels.
You may need to look in your local salvage yard for that bracket. It would fit the aftermarket motor. The one we sell is shown in the video.
@saldav420 We don't. We do carry a brand new motor assembly though. Here's a link to them on our website if you would like to check them out. 1aauto.com/1A/TrunkReleaseLockSole/Chevy/Camaro/1AZTM00001

You might want to try online through eBay or possibly some of the online forums for some advice as to where to find the bushings.
You may want to check the dealer for the plastic guides to see if they can get them for you.
you may want to check the power going to it with a test light. If not, you may also want to check the fuses.
If the hatch isn't closing tight enough, there may be some adjustment on the motor to bring it down tighter. U made it look easy. Those things suck.
We currently do not have a supplier for this particular part.
If you have any questions, just post on our channel and we'll try to get s solution to the issue for you. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Only if you guys were in Cali I would simply pay for mines to be Redone
We do not have those guides, you may want to see if the dealer has some NOS parts.
The issue could be with the motor. You might want to remove the motor as shown and see if it is function correctly.
@joaquin2205 grease the slides (and make sure they're still there and not missing)
You can try to unplug it, and then plug it back in to see if the motor will reset itself.
2:33 - The switch on mine had 2 clips either side I detached but even after that, something's holding it in the middle and I can't get it off! The plastic bushings can be purchased from a company named Top Down Solutions.
Unfortunately it sounds as if you have some serious wiring issues. Something like that would have to be brought to a professional to be properly diagnosed so the car doesn't burn to the ground from a bad power wiring grounding out on a part and catching fire.
If your hatch has a key, you may be able to unlock it with the key.

Baylen Whitfield Did you figure out what happened?
Would I be able to buy the whole setup? not just the trunk lid pull down but I do need the trunk lid pull down. I just bought a 86 camaro and needs some help.
You could test it with an ohm meter
Okay, so I bought a 89 Iroc the other day. And I went to go replace the hatch motor. And I saw a lot of screwed up things. A couple of wires were disconnected and torn apart, and a lone clip I couldn't find a connector for was there. If you could help at all, that would be great.
ordered one. ill be post when it fixed my hatch
+Kyle Birkhead Thanks. Keep us posted on how the repair comes out! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
The 82 should be different from the 86-91 pulldown motor.
Now where do i get the plastic bushings? Did not see them on 1aauto.com. Awesome video btw. Thanks
Thanks for the video! Very helpful

For some reason my hatch release just stopped working, it doesn't lower or raise. But you can still here the motor spinning. Would it be my housing?

My pull down motor and assembly looks different than the one in the video... Will it still fit?
It may not fit if you have a different set-up.Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
It similar on all trims right? The only difference for each trim should be the engine i think
Will this part be back anytime soon? Can't seem to find it on the website anymore.

William, did you ever get a resolved for this issue? I have the same issue.

i would love to see some foxbody mustang projects.

I was wondering this too but haven't done it. Any other details one needs to know before doing that?
Tengo quebrada la base de acrílico, y supongo que lo vendemos junto con el motor , y costará unos 80 dólares
Amazon has the bushings, also has the same motor and gear black housing will not work had to send them back. Classic Industries has the correct part.
