I have the same problem at the moment. Opened the boot lid, saw there was waggle on the mechanism and saw the shattered pieces of the guides inside the boot! I ordered the kit already and I was looking for a video on how actually do it! Thanks for your video man! Really straight forward, to the point without any hassling! Do you have any idea where the spacer and the grommet goes?
Thanks for watching..I don't remember what came with the kit, as long as you do it like I did in the video, you will be fine..thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe
The fact that it was 2016 when his video was made and the plastic guides finally crumbled to dust means the hatch wasn't slammed regularly, otherwise it would have been broken within a few years of being built. Slamming the hatch typically doesn't break the guides, but rather the motor assembly itself. I have never slammed the hatch, I lower it till I hear and feel the click of the latch, then watch with pleasure as the motor pulls it down tight. My guides finally crumbled to dust, 30 years after the car rolled off the assembly line. I found bits and pieces of the guides. This also explains the nasty trunk rattle I'd hear over bumps recently. The motor was bouncing in the guides. I ordered new guides and my motor will probably continue to work for a long time.
QUESTION: At 4:38 time after the latch pulls down the trunk lid I noticed that it appears that the trunk lid spoiler and it's mating part that's mounted on the 1/4 panel are not aligned, am I seeing that right? I have a 89 TA/GTA that mine are not in alignment, I was wondering if this is the same with all these cars? Can this be adjusted out?
The whole trunk/window assembly is skewed, my driver side corner of trunk lid is NOT inline with the rear quarter panel corner, it appears the whole window/trunk window needs to be shifted.
I'm sitting in my 1990 firebird right now. The trunk won't open and the key turns and nothing happens. Now I figure out there's two screws on the top of the trunk motor trim I can't get to. I'm never gonna get this trunk open am I....
Hey I know this is an older video but I need some help with mine! The hatch closes but the switch gets stuck and makes this loud sound of the electric motor going off and it won't stop. It seems like there's something stuck in it but I can't figure out what it is. What do I do?
Lol Have to trace the circuit ..if when u hit the switch and the relay diesnt energize then check the wiring to the switch..if u hit the switch and u hear a click from the relay..check to see if power is going to out the relay..habe to look at the whole circuit
Klowny I need your help! I just put the 4 new glides on and when I replace the motor and housings back into the tracks, it doesn't slide smoothly up and down like you show in the video. I've used tons of grease (bay-bee) but I have to really put force on it to move it up or down on the 4 new glides. (It works perfectly if I only use 2 of the glides.) I'm afraid I'm going to burn up the motor if I try to use it when the fit is too snug. Hawk's instructions on say to fix it if the fit is too snug but they don't say how. Do you know a fix for this? Also do you know where those 2 round things go that come in the part packet? Thanks! Fellow 3rd gen owner, Sue

Strange thing is I have 4 plastic guides on mine, I had to replace the gear in mine. New subscriber thumbs up man.
kool ..thanks for watching and subscribing
How did it work so well for him what am I missing
It's not like a typical trunk hood. You're not supposed to slam it shut. It's no surprise yours is broken into little pieces.
You have no idea who ur talking to
@@klowny1969 Well okay then, keep slamming.
@@imnotabotrlyimnot check out my video where a built a thirdgen from scratch

there is an adjustment u can do..i believe thirdgen.org has a write up on it..thanks for watching
I believe you just turn the rubber knobs on the trunk to adjust it.

Will this work on a 1992 firebird ?
should be the same
@@klowny1969 Thanks klowny you rock dude. Keep the videos coming.
2 years later here. You need different parts. The 1992 assembly is different from the 1986 to 1991 assembly.
