Another very useful video. The pulley bearing blew out at mile 250 of our 700 mile trip. Lucky for me, it ended up on the shroud so I was able to retrieve it. I stopped by a friend who had a hammer, 15mm socket and a grinder (what luck!). I removed the old brace with the grinder and pounded in a close enough bearing I found at a harware store but installing the belt back was a pain. Got back home safely where I had ordered the pulley but I kept thinking that it shouldn't have been that hard to put the belt back on. Your video was the last piece of the puzzle so I just ordered the damper from Rock Auto. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you, for this video!! I had the plastic cover over the nut and I didn`t understad how to undo it before I saw your video!! Finally the job was done in just 5 minutes!!! You saved my day!!
Hi Ratchets, your video on strut/shock replacement was very helpful. Mine had a worn upper bushing letting the strut make a rattling noise at idle only. I thought it was the timing chain. Thankfully it was only the strut. Thanks a Lot,Gene
The rubber grommet on the bottom of the tension strut will perish, and you can't see it when this happens. It causes all kinds of problems such as the alternator not charging, a/c compressor slipping, and causes a loud rattling sound that sounds like the engine has a huge issue. This happened to me, I took the car to an independent Mercedes mechanic and he installed a new alternator, and wanted to replace the compressor. I took the car home and found a video regarding this issue. It was a cheap fix.
hmm if you've put everything bad together correctly you may have gotten the wrong part. Before taking anything back out take the box with the part number of the new pulley and your vin # to the part store and have them verify its the correct part. GL
My AC compressor in my Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor a 2002 the AC compressor froze up and it snapped a serpentine belt and I'm wanting to know if it's possible just to bypass the AC compressor like you can in most cars straight to the power steering and if so what belt do I need what serpentine belt do I need to do that
I have a problem with mine, i have replaced the tensioner shocks more than 4 times and it goes bad after 2 days, what can be the problem? i have also changed the adjuster and still experience the same problem

The one on my SLK230 is on its way out and this video is an absolute life saver.
Did this today in like 10 minutes. So simple but makes a huge difference. The rattling noise was unbelievable. I drove like this for like 40.000 km...
Although this video was eight years ago, it still helped me to fix my car. Thanks for video!

Indeed a great video, voice is loud enough for me to full understand the explanation. video is bright enough for detail. thanks again, subscribed! :)
I also thought my top end had the death rattle- so found your vid and did this to sort it. Thanks- good teacher....
This video is fantastic!!! Thank you so much mate, I am going up to my car after breakfast and will install my new tensioner shock :D
Many thanks for your film. You showed me how to take off old tensioner pulley just wot i was wanting to know. all the best.
What is the tensioner nut socket size?
hey thanks it was really helpful. My strut is totally missing and my tensioner puller is chirping. I hope this will fix the problem
great video, clear and to the point. thanks
Muchas gracias buen hombre no sabe de lo que me sacaste 😂😂👍
O'Reilly can order a new tensioner strut for $37.99. It's made by 'Stabilus', which is part of Sachs, so it should be a decent part.
What size sockets to remove tension pulley?? 🙏
Great video 👍🏻👏🥃

Is that strut really necessary?
nice straight-forward video
The shock can be moved by hand doesnt that mean its bad? I thought its meant to push outward to keep tension on the pulley

That strut, has no nut on the back side? Then how? It has inside threads?

Thanks you bro! This tutotial vidéo is great ;)
Does anybody know if it's possible to bypass the AC compressor straight to the power steering in a Mercedes C230 Kompressor a 2002
If the belt tensioner is shaking do i need to replce the belt tensioner or the belt tensioner shock damper? Does anyone know the answer to this?
where is the shock on a 99 c230 Kompressor?
Perfect, Thanks a lot!!!
torque spec?
Very different to the Diesel C250 5 cylinder - was hoping this might have been the same but alas no..
Nice video though.
