A STEM degree will take people far. He needs to stop the cap
Those people built their companies on others with college degrees. They’re leaders though but employing them would be a nightmare.
You do need qualifications. The poster-boys are very few and they don’t do the hands-on work they manage the people who do.
Also an important thing to note is that many of the top leaders who don’t have a degree did go to college but chose another option instead of finishing- so they were smart enough to get to a point, it’s not just some smart-ass off the street. There are many business owners who are just some smart-ass off the street and they are absolute nightmares to work for because they don’t really understand the mechanics of their success so their business is always over-stretched and they vent their stress on their employees.
From the guy who went to Stanford
HONOR Elon U HAVE None
This is not an indication for y’all to skip college though. He is trying to emphasize that you are capable of anything, as long as you put the work in to achieve it!
Also people seem to forget that the reason Bill Gates didn't graduate is because he was offered a job whilst in University because he had proven himself, most people are not that lucky unfortunately...
The only time you shouldn't skip college is if you got a free paid tuition. That is it.
@@jake7725 also some people are just not fit to create something or be the ceo of a company… some people are just best at being any other worker

Meanwhile Tesla,SpaceX Job Recruitments: college degree from A Tier college, Minimum 8 years of experience, SAT score should be more than 1450+ (as of 2021 total paper is of 1600)
It's standardisation of knowledge and skills. You can make a hundredmillion dollar company with not qualifications but that doesn't mean someone you hire can do it without a qualification. Getting a qualification in countries other than US is more of a job security than anything else. Like I'm doing IT and I've worked with people that have masters in IT but are idiots and some that have a certificate in IT with less experience but are 'smarter'.

He's right! I cut hair in a University city and the kid's were stressed to the max. Going because they're parents made/ wanted them too. Half the time didn't work in the chosen degree. I went to trade school had fun and made a decent amount of money worked for 35yrs and the last 20 I got to choose my own hours. My Dad a self made millionaire didn't finish high-school but worked hard and provided for his 4 girls and wife. Having a plan and working hard is key.
These guys didn't graduate from college, but they did go to college. That's where they got a lot of knowledge and met the right people to go further.

Went to community college, didn’t want to have student loan debt. People clowned me for 10 years because I didn’t go to a good school or get my degree.
Now I’m a homeowner and business owner and my friends are still working for someone else while paying down their student loans 20 years after graduating high school.

That's the ONLY way to do it unless you have a full ride or come from a lot of money. When's the last time you went to a Dr and asked where they went to college? It's the same credit at community college and on a related note studies have shown those that work their way through college had higher grades on average because the work ethic is there and they're working too hard not to care about grades. I have some community college credit, no degree, but work the same career as many who have degrees from expensive universities including some with student loan debt in the 6 figures. Guess what, we make the exact same salary. Degrees are great, however, but be smart in what the degree is in and how you finance it.
I’m in community college rn. People make me feel bad for going bc it’s not a university but when I’m 6k in debt and there 30k I think I’ll be the person laughing. Or atleast I hope.
College isn’t for everyone, but that should never stop you from learning about your craft. Perfect it, strive to be the best at it. College doesn’t get you a job, but neither does sitting around with a high school diploma. YOU determine what your path is.

@@mujahidqureshi37Not true. These people including himself all have very high IQ's in which case a college degree isn't critical. I have a high IQ, not like these guys, but I was able to excel at everything I did. Set high goals for yourself and you can't ever give up . Many successful people failed at things, sometimes many times but they had perseverance and believed in themselves.
It’s videos like this that made me leave college when I was 22. I worked a lot of different jobs trying to find stability while trying to become an “entrepreneur” of some sort like all these videos advise. But I was never able to make enough money to start a business. Plus not everyone has that gift and drive of creating their own business and networking etc. I had hardly enough to pay rent throughout the years. Until this very day, at the age of 29 I am still trying to get by. I’ve finally come to the decision this year to return to college and get a degree so that I can get a better paying job. THEN I can invest in the things I believe in. I wish I had completed it sooner. I’d be in a much better place financially today. But it was watching these videos that made me lost. Yes Steve Jobs and Bill Gates didn’t go to college but they were gifted. Clearly the majority of people are not on that level. Go to college. Get a degree, get paid well and start a business of your own after the fact. That’s my two cents.
Your 2 cents are worth more than the bullshit Elon said.. i wish you were smart enough to realize how stupid all this was years ago but at least now you know.. got s friend who dropped out of highschool at like 15, he’s 22 now and is still studying to get his diploma so he can START going to college.. It's too big of an investment to have it and not need it. College debt can significantly delay things for most people (myself included), like buying a car or a house.
That's a bar
@@Sudozeryou can get through college without huge debt. Go to your local community college and then a state school. People with lifetime debt got useless degrees and went to private or out of state which charges more in tuition

@Frauldo Explains I proved that Elon wasn’t lying when he said that you don’t need a degree to work for him, 15% of his employees don’t have one. people choose to get degrees because most companies want you to have one, but you can learn just about anything on your own through books, hands on experience, free online lessons (lookup MIT free open courseware”) and more.
For the students who are thinking about dropping out consider these: if you truly know you're smart as fuck, do it. But if you're an average joe like me, don't.
What he said only applies to those who are super smart and/or good superb social skills.
No, most people think that they are smarter than average. Say you're dumb as shit, and you're surrounded by smart people that tell you everything you say is wrong. But you're stubborn and don't believe them, instead believing that everyone else is dumb that's why they think you're wrong. And you're just smart
I don't think it's smart af. I was getting below average grade back in 6th grade. It's really all if you are willing to learn or not. Time management and so much more. If you lack motivation in school, and the education system suck then obviously you'd fall short.
A smart kid in college wouldnt think of dropping out. Cause that s not smart. Unless he has a stable source of income and he s about to invest fully in it. Being an owner doesnt require much skill further down the line.
The thing is you can learn a lot more doing interesting jobs etc. And studying anything is completely useless unless you practically use it for something because you wont remember anything otherwise. So use the oportunities college gives you. Take part in college teams like rocket or formula teams etc. If you just go there to get a degree and pass it, it kind of looses the point

@@Flakz911 so how are they gonna determine who is the best? Degrees, maybe? ;)
Let’s be honest: most people will not be Elon musk or Jeff bezos. For most people, a college degree (in a respected major) is a great way to ensure they will have a great paying career for their entire lives. Most people are not cut out to be self-made entrepreneurs, and many people who choose this path fail hard, and wind up working for low wages because they didn’t go to university, or trade school at least, in order to make themselves more valuable to the professional world.

Yeah sounds like propoganda to keep you working for them. A lot of rich people are already born rich ...
Basically the logic behind what he said is, if you really like/ are interested in a particular field you don't need to go to college to learn about it or get good in that field and if you're dedicated enough and love the field enough you can pull through and get a job as well without the degree.
You just need to be good at what you do.
Right but most of the people who are getting college degrees end up being in debt for the rest of their lives because they dont have the knowledge.

Hes not saying this so as to discourage people in university. He is saying this to bring up hope for people without one, that for some circumstances couldn't get one. He s giving them another way. To learn by themselves the things they want to do best.
Then again Amazon is under Bezos and who the hell would trust that man 😂
That's not true. You can apply for a job at Tesla without a degree but you need to have experience in a similar field and that kind of stuff. No need for a degree
People with degrees from a Indian university there is equivalent to elementary level education here!
People keep forgetting that the examples he gives are of geniuses and revolutionists, so there’s no need for those degrees. But people that are average even above average, a degree is 2nd nature, without it we would fail, only a small percentage makes it, doesn’t matter how hard you try. But hey, if it inspires you to try something out, motivates you in anyway, helps you forget about something your going through or stress, awesome.
Wouldn't say only a small percent make it. Depending what you mean atleast. If you mean becoming rich? Then fair, although alot of the rich people are the ones who made businesses which you can do without college. Or if you just mean live a normal life. I'd say wrong. I know countless people who didn't go to school and they live a solid life money wise. But obviously it does depend how you look at it
Yes that’s the rare case please don’t leave college after listening this.
These geniuses and revolutionary’s all had some X factor within them that enabled them to create whatever they wanted no matter the obstacle or means, i think 1 in 1000000 have that X factor, those people always find a way.

He's not saying stop from going to college, what he's saying is talented people like the ones he mentioned made it because they were hired from the right people.
Interaction with people who know about what you want to learn is key. Teaching each other opening the mind to new ideas is how humanity can advance.
College also gives you options. It's not the school that makes you, its what you do with the schooling
Its much needed, the ratio of exceptional human beings to ordinary people who need to be educated n trained says it all

Guys don't do it don't quit, those guys have already accomplished things. Get that degree
But if it's not what you're truly passionate about then you're basically wading life memorizing things that doesn't interest you. I feel the concept of college just passes time as you waste your life. Life isn't about college or good jobs because imagine studying 10 years after high school and dying at the age of 29. To live doesn't mean you're alive. My advice, live life to the fullest, take random drives, take random walks, greet random people, go play an instrument at city centres. Do whatever it is that's not gonna make you feel "fck today wasn't reproductive". I dropped out of high school when I was 13 in the 9th grade to work for a minimum wage bcz shit was hard at home. Now I'm 23 and drive a Ferrari all because I cut against the format of this world, if I took all these peoples advice I would've probably been studying now living at mommy's house (that's if we didn't starve to death by having absolutely no food or water or anything). Thank you Elon I disagree with EVERYTHING this world has to offer. The system of operations are bullshit.. humans need to fckn evolve for goddamn..
He inherited an emerald mine.
These people employ people with degrees. When they say this, they're directing messages like that to people who want to be CEO's, Creators or so🙌🏽
Don't expect to be an employee without a degree or so for that field
Tesla, google, Microsoft, IBM and a bunch of other companies do hire ppl without degrees so yeah do your research well!
@@windshearahead7012 Umm no? Many of the software developers in google IBM etc are self taught...one of the senior cyber security manager in IBM is self taught(there may be more but i just learnt about him) There are so many people who major in 1 and go for a career change. Unless you are cooped up with the whole school is everything you can do wonders without school.
@@windshearahead7012 google does hire self taught people who have done their courses online.amazon aswell

Agree 100 percent. I explained this in a top level meeting once. The top engineer was explaining they were having trouble getting engineers. I explained its just a piece of paper. If you had a good high school senior graduate and spend 4 years every workday learning bridge engineering from your engineers , who would you hire, the one that came in with a piece of paper of the one you know actually knows the engineering and has performed the work under mentors. He said id take the kid without the paper.
I love hearing what this man has to say he is the Einstein of today
I would compare him to great business ppeople rather than Einstein.Einstein personally contributed a LOT to the development of theoretical physics. His theories have several applications. Einsten was probably “not poor” but he is noted more for his contribution to knowlwdge than making money.
Musk on the other hand is an astute businessman,
Btw Bill Gates has said multiple times that in this current economy having higher education is almost necessary to get a good career. Even though he was a college dropout, he admits that you need a degree to get the highest chances of success.
@@ihaveadream3321 and he’s also a generational genius, he didn’t just drop Harvard, he was too good for Harvard, very rare feat
Except it's not even close to necessary.
@@sasca854 Then you won’t be a nurse, doctor, dentist, lawyer, teacher, social worker, engineer, and a lot more. It is necessary in many fields and jobs.
You dont need "a degree". You need a degree in engineering, nursing, medicine, law, dentistry, or computer science. Any other degrees such as arts, general science, social studies, music, or literature is bullshit.
You probably also agree that Gates also predicted but had nothing to do with this so called pandemic too right just saying!!!!!
"You don't necessarily need a college degree" is a sentence that can be applied to maybe only 5% of the population, meaning those people who were born with a perfect combination of intelligence, patience and perseverance.
However, I think that for the rest of the population, college helps you to orient yourself. It is true that we live in a time when access to information is free, but it is important not to waste our time with any information until we get the needed information.
Also the relationships and experiences created in college contribute to our personal development.
It applies to nearly 100% of the population, you don’t NEED a college degree to have a high paying job. Blue collar work
@@SS-iu1re so you don’t need a medical degree to become a registered/licensed doctor?

Relax guys:he meant peoples who have special qualities talent, genius level intelligence, special knowledge etc don't need college degree, it's not for normal peoples

It's necessary if you want to get hired by many companies.

Yeah like Come on not even a high school degree 😂😂
You have such a gentle spirit...much love from Florida 🌴
I was self taught and worked my way into an upper management position. I did take some college courses which definitely helped broaden my mind . Having an expanded vocabulary and good basic reading, writing and math skills is important. Im 70 and I still continue to read and learn. It keeps those neurons firing and connecting.
That was back then that you didn’t have to have a degree, now it’s a must as no company would even consider you without a degree.
My adult kids didn’t even graduate from high school and they make more money than I do today. They own businesses that are successful.

College degrees will never be ignored by a potential employer. Get the degree, then do more. He is saying that you don’t have to go to college to obtain intelligence. You can learn it all at the library if you put in the effort.
agreed! just the willingness to learn and ve open to correction and always progress towards improving oneself...
Studying college alone doesnt add much. Its when you take the oportunities it offers, then it becomes valuable. Im in a rocket building team at my university where were currently designing and building a liquid fueled rocket for a competition in Portugal and the amount of stuff I learned in the process far surpasses what I learn at the school alone.
Onde vai ser? Pessoas de fora podem ir ver? Sempre tive curiosidade, mas achei que o espaço e Portugal seriam mutuamente exclusivos.
Obrigado

@@joaocagalhio9804 we're going to the Euroc competition in autumn 2022. I think it should be open to public. Atleast if you buy some ticket or something

Being capable of great things is not equal to having the chance of actually doing great things, which is why for most of us, we need a college degree.
Well said
I could listen to Elon all day.
Our big problem is degree or not ,adults on the US have a reading level 6th grade or less.
What we need is a thirst for knowledge and understanding instead of accepting our place academically in the world.
“Bill gates dropped out of college!”
Everyone who knows he did drop out but went to Harvard
Fr lol. Elon also dropped out of pursuing higher education because he didnr need it. If I got the same education as him I definitely wouldnt be able to do what he has done. I would need way more education and help

Yeah, no need to have a college degree when you’re naturally intellectually advanced
Yes indeed true
Elon has a college degree
Without degree no good job
If you work on your intelligence it can also be advanced. Naturally all are capable of it.
I think we’re all able to reach high level of intellectual methods. Just takes time and studying what you love n desire in my opinion
1: you need a collage/university degree to get certain jobs, it's not like you will become an astronomer by just looking at the stars.
2: this people are geniuses and we have to accept this. What Elon is saying here is that it's not necessary to have a degree to succeed.
I see it more so as some of the most successful people on the planet didn't graduate college.

Yeah, rich people want poor people to be dumb to keep them poor. Education is the greatest equalizer. True, college isnt necessary but most financially stable people I know are well educated and have careers that requires higher learning. It doesn't matter how much work/effort you put in to learn a field if the job you wish to attain has a non-negotiable education requirement 😒

This is so true in all honesty I feel like a degree helps with opportunities, but might not necessarily give you the abilities in order to succeed.
