I am deeply saddened to recently learn of the 2016 passing of John Murphy. As anyone that has seen THE COMMITMENTS movie knows John Murphy played the part of Joey :the lips" Fagan and was an integral part of the movie. As I understand he did not know how to play the trumpet before joining the cast for the movie. But he must have learned the basics because he is featured in a UA-cam live performance video with the other members of the COMMITMENTS and he appears to be playing the trumpet. Someone is playing the trumpet, I can hear it. As well as playing an integral part in the movie he got to "make out" with COMMITMENTETTEs member Maria Doyle. REST IN PEACE BROTHER MURPHY.
That is amazing 💖 Thank you for sharing - Never would have thought he couldn't play the trumpet, 🎺 he looked so adept. Indeed RIP.. And yeah, he really did get the most difficult job, kissing the pretty ladies 😂
What a great movie. Who knows it was taken from a book by Roddy Doyle - an Irish author or many unique and well written books. Sure would be fun to start a band like that!
I'm shocked by how many of these stars there are who have essentially dissapeared and fallen off the radar after this one big hit. The saving grace is that a few have managed to stay reasonably present on our tv and movie screens but you imagine that after a big hit like "The Commitments," all of them would be made up for life. Unfortunately life isn't that easy and it takes a tremendous amount of luck to keep your star shining and in the ascendancy for as long as people like Colm Meany has. Chief Miles O'Brien is one of Star Trek's greatest unsung characters and it's testament to Colm's huge talent.
Meaney went for the role of Data which went to Brent Spiner so he was given 2 episodes of the first season as the casing directors liked him. The role of semi regular Transporter Chief O'Brien was given to Colm in season 2. He left for DS9 during season 6 of TNG. Colm was given the role of Engineer on DS9 as he was so good on TNG & deserved a main role. Hugely disappointed this video did not feature the late Johnny Murphy who played Joey 'The Lips' Fagan.
Maria Doyle Kennedy is married to Kieran Kennedy and has three sons with him. Her eldest son is from a previous relationship, so its not correct to say that Kieran and herself have four sons. A blended family, in other words.
Interesting Sad to see the stars leaving us as time marches on. but WTF with the music??? Surely a more "Commitments" style soundtrack would have been more appropriate?
Its a shame because im a fan of this film and the concept of before and after appealed to me. Its such a shame its been so poorly done. But still theres nothing else on youtube showing the before and after so really we should be thanking the creater for at least making an effort.
A nadie le importa que es de la vida de la mamá del representante ni de las mellizas del orto- amén de que los dos minutos se termina esa música triste, es todo espantoso. ;( thumbs down
WTF kind of bullshit is this? You title it "Where are they now" and then give very little info on a few of them and nothing on the rest. What was the point?
Best movie ever, loved every moment watching it ❤️
RIP Alan Parker - director of The Commitments - a great filmmaker and good talent spotter.
The video is sweet even though incomplete (apologies to the Beau Brummels). One of my favorite movies with great covers of 60's soul standards.
I❤this film so much, when I have to remind myself of who I am, where I'm from... Put it on, everything falls into place... ❤
Great movie...loved the music!

I think I remember hearing about his passing back in 2016 and I was very sorry to hear that he had passed away so soon .
I think I miss him most of all. RIP John
I was wondering why he was not mentioned in the video. Thanks for info, though it's sad to hear this news.

Shame it wasn't mentioned that Glen Hansard has appeared on stage dueting with Bruce Springsteen on 'Drive All Night' in Dublin...!
Quite a terrible list when half actors' fates are "unknown."
Especially the second actor. Its sounds like he disappeared from the world after the commitments
And Bronagh appeared in Pulp Fiction and Star wars
She was indeed in Pulp Fiction
Maria Doyle did a season of Dexter where she played his nanny.
She also okayed in the series The Tudors, as king Henry's first wife, who didn't lose her head...
I watch this movie over, and over, I just love it!!!
Poorly done... lots of missing info. Did you not know that Colm Meany appeared on Star Trek?
And Family Guy.
Con Air.. Under Siege, Last of the Mohicans, The Simpsons, Layer Cake and countless others

Somebody really should re-do this.
Thanks, but a little disappointed you let the music run out far before the video did.
I love Andrea Corr

A weird amalgam of truth, nonsense, outright errors, and bloody awful music.

Too drawn out.
Badly put together rubbish graphics and atrocious spelling. Thumbs down.
