KTM 690 ENDURO - SIMPSON DESERT ADVENTURE - Part 4

- The adventure crosses the desert. Part 4 is another long one.
Like episode 3, I try to give you the viewer an inside look at what it's like for 5 mates to cross the desert. The drama, the fun, the highs and the lows. Mark certainly knows about the lows.
Anyway, I really hope you enjoy this one, thanks for giving me your time to watch it. If you like, 'Like it', 'Subscribe' or leave a 'Comment'.
Ride safe, be safe and see you on the trails.
Thanks heaps, Craig
Mate you are a top bloke. Positive, keen and super helpful to all your fellow riders. Great series of videos !!!
well said mate.
Thanks Dave J, appreciate the comments mate.
@@jarradnash1465 Cheers mate
@@Shadower75 have you got any plans in the future to do another trip across the Simpson desert ? Keen as to come along for the ride be 1st time for me and you would be the bloke I'd like to take me across..I'm in Melbourne
Great vid top bloke can i find you on fb
Loved it Craig. Almost makes me forget there was a few days left after this! Bring on part 5!
Have say it again mate, hat off for you and how you wresle that big sherman thrue that deep sand...
I was thinking the same mate. After watching that it felt like that was the end of the ride.
you left your broken -down mate to the sand-wolves to die in the desert and partied hard.......subbed....
hahahahah it did look like that hey Rob. Lucky he was in good hands.
Nerb1 can't claim the "unsupported" title.... He had you...! :-)
Nerb has been quiet on this issue...🤫
@@mototrailz hahaha, everyone needs a Shadower to have their back once & a while.
hahahah may have helped him lift it but he rode that beast. Cheers for the support in2ADV.
He who takes an 1190 into the Simpson is either a madman or a genius, or perhaps both. Well done both of you, great vid. Though if you ever show footage of an insta model riding with no shirt I will never tune in again…unless they are hot or you do a better job of taking the piss.
Great work Craig. Thoroughly enjoyed every video.
You’re every Adventurer’s dream ride buddy!
Thanks heaps Ronan. Stoked you liked it mate.
Great ride, great footage. Hello from Oregon!
Hey Serge V from Oregon, glad you are watching mate and hope you are enjoying the Aussie outback.
Cheers mate.
EPIC!!!!! well done. well told and perfect front to end.
Thanks Soilsman ADV. Cheers
Enjoying your videos - well done mate!!
Cheers Dan C
Love it mate. Good on all of you!
Cheers superkruger
It's incredible how positive you sound every time you have to stop, get off, pick up someone else's bike, climb on, start up and get going again. Champ! Nerb, Tom, Brendan and Marc all owe you big. Great videos, commentary and info. Thanks for the adventures.
Thanks for the comments ledzyz, stoked you are liking the vids mate. Have a good one.
That explorer, David Lindsay, good job to him, but don't forget that long before that, 1000's of years, other folks roamed across the Simpson. Don't forget about them :-)
Very true mate, amazing they all did it. Super effort.
What a positive fella. Love it. Beautiful country we have.
Absolutely awesome this country mate. We are very lucky.
Cheers Jus S.
@shadower 75 I have absolutely loved watching this series and has motivated me to take my new ( to me) tenere out and explore Darwin's beauty!
Cheers mate!
Cheers Heath and well done mate. Good luck out there in the NT on the Tenere.
So funny watching the Simpson crossed the other way...
Of 6 crossings, never done it West to East
Like all great roads, it feels od doing it the other way.
That is what the Mrs said too
6 crossings and never W 2 E. Man you are a Simpson warrior.
My vehicle doesn't think so...
I'm a light weight Craig, some in the crew have been doing it for 15 years+ on the way to Finke
Seems every year, more and more crossing the paddock
Trouble is, if you miss a year, you are considered a "prospector" for the next year and must get everyones beer if they ask.
Another ripper video mate 10/10
Cheers Ben.
Have you ever thought about making a few vids of some of the local Sydney trails like the old convict road, six foot track, yengo ect?
@@bens_gone_nomad5299 Yeah mate, I have actually and plan to do one once I can get some time. Just a quick overnighter reasonable close to Sydney. Any suggestions?
Depends on where you want to go, terrain you want to ride and kilometres per day to travel. I personally like the 6ft track to jenolen caves then into Kanangra Boyd np then down to Wombeyan caves because it offers a great variety of terrain and route options depending on how difficult you want to make it while being only a few hours from Sydney or an hour or so from a town like Oberon. Another option would be the Bridle track from Hill End - Bathurst or north to Barrington tops
Well done mate... thoroughly enjoyed the series.
Thanks Mark, still 1 or 2 episodes to go.
Thank you :), your rides across the simpson are just awesome to watch, great vids man. :)
Thanks for the support Trail Hunter.
Great Video set craig, great to see the 690 performed so well. Definately the bike for the crossing. Loved the ease that you were lugging it to save fuel.
Cheers Andy. It sure is a desert machine the 690. Thanks for the support mate.
31:40 looked like an old series I or II Land Rover, blimey! Great video man, that sand must drain you by end of day. Awesome landscape, love it. ATB Jason.
Good spot Biker Bytes, not sure on the series but it was Land Rover.
Cheers mate and have a good one.
Fantastic job guys bit concerning the 250s didn’t wait up at junctions . Something we always do to regroup
Cheers mate, yes you have to watch those little 250's hey.. lol
Have good one now.
Congrats and well done guys. Was great to follow your adventure along the way. Thanks for taking the time to post the series up for us to watch.
You're welcome Chris, thanks for the support mate.
Absolute love this series...great filming an editing mate... Thanks for taking your time...
Cheers Toby.
Thanks mate . Shows me what I missed .always thought about it but time goes by.
Hopefully one day Fred. Cheers for the comment mate.
Amazing vid mate great camera angle and commentary
Love the pace you must have your suspension dialled up very well. 4th gear I would have been airborne and out of control on the 1150 and the DR at that speed.
Your bike looks like it is barely working 👍
Thanks Tony for the comments mate. I did have the suspension dialed up.
Love to see that mate, you on the 1150 airborne.
Stunning ride guys, and excellent commentary. Easily the best adventure ride series (both of you) I have seen on the Tube this year. Pity Mark had Husky problems ... looked to me like he might just have had the most weight on the rear too. Thanks for sharing! Wonder if my AT would do the Simpson ...
Thanks Ian for the comments mate. I really do appreciate it. Makes all the hard work of filming and editing worth it.
Have to agree with you on that one re the husky's weight, maybe just carrying a little too much.
I think with the right preparation and determination you could get a AT across there. Nerb did it on a 1190.
Cheer again mate and have a good day now.
Its good to see the perspective from the 3 different guys. Shadower, good narration on how to cross the dunes. Going to cross the Simpson myself and Ive been watching these videos for tips and research ;) Broken frames.........yikes. Time for some brazing or welding to get that sorted.
Thanks for the comments Wazza, i'm glad some of my vids have been able to help. Good luck on your Simpson crossing, i hear it's looking amazing too.
Tom HAS to be an only child and grown up in a privileged house hold ?
nailed it
Agreed. Tom seems like a bell end
not sure about that.
I know he has at least one sister.
Bloody awesome guys! Well done 👍🏻
Cheers Brendan
I enjoy your commentary when you describe the road and scenery conditions. Its quite informative and a good source for research when planning a trip of my own. Thanks heaps and please keep the videos coming.
Hey Smitty, thanks for the feedback mate. That's exactly what I was trying for. Give viewers a idea of what I do and help them with their trips. Cheers mate.
I really enjoyed your Simpson desert videos Craig. Being an older bloke now, I’ve missed my chance to do this myself and I can only cross the Simo through someone else’s eyes...and yours have been brilliant. I like the way you’re inclusive to your team mates , always helping out. Top job!! And thank you - I really am enjoying the ride.
Good on you Steve, thanks for the comments mate and I'm glad you are enjoying the vids.
Hopefully you are still riding. Cheers again.
Amazine job team. 👍👍👍👍
Cheers dazza
Great trip, great edit- love your work Shadower 75 👍
cheers Mid Coast Adv, good on ya mate.
Stuart Ball on the 950, haha small world
Certainly is the ADV world.
That feeling when you crest Big Red ☺️. Nice work fellas!
It is a nice feeling going up and over.
Cheers Keith
Mark must be finding it hard to view this episode. He was soooo close.
I loved this episode though.
Very entertaining. Liked your description of riding the dunes too.
It's true, I am
The Hornet Rider - was gutted for you mate. But you did far more than all the rest of us arm chair riders. So not a failure in my eyes.
Next time buddy, next time.
Very true Honda NC750X, feel for old Mark. So so close. Gives him a excuse to head back there i guess.
Appreciate your comments mate. Thanks heaps
Legendary stuff Craig!!
Thanks Paul
That was superb....great filming, great narrative, bloomin brilliant adventure!. Loved it! Cheers Steve
Good on ya Stephen, appreciate your comments mate.
Thank you for posting this just as i sat down with a bourbon :)
Hopefully there was a couple of bourbons during this episode mate.
Cheers again.
Yes.... 6 :)
Awesome Craig. The look of achievement on everyone on top of big red was great:) Shame about the old husky though! Did he get to the top in a support vehicle?
Hi Moto Dans, thanks for the comment mate. Sure was a shame about Mark and his bike. He did get to the top the next day in the support vehicle.
Absolutely loved your videos Craig, big congratulations for doing the crossing unsupported, huge effort buddy 😃👍
Thanks, motogspot, certainly was fun.
Mate, loving your videos, just started watching on recommendation from my father in law Phil, bloody good job.
Good on you Old bloke - New bike. Glad you are liking the vids mate. And cheers to your father in law Phil for telling you.
Never crashed good job done a great job as usual well put together 👍 how good was that beer
Guess was a lucky crossing mate. That beer was so so good.
Cheers mate.
You put the time into your trips which we all enjoy you capture the experience we all know it’s pretty wild thanks
Well done fot not binning it at any point! Can't say I'd be the same. Haha.
What was the fuel ltrs count in the end, Mt Dare to Birdsville? Did you ever calculate it?
Hey Jon, guess I was lucky not to bin it mate. Can so easily out there in the sand.
I used around 42-43L to get across the Simpson. I think the magical number is around the 40L mark however being a bit heavier and have the detour I wanted a little extra. Cheers mate
Sensational Video Craig.
Congratulations to you and all the team on an epic unassisted crossing
Brilliant video work, Audio, Editing and Map work
This will stand on UA-cam for years to come
Well said!
Thanks Hugh, really appreciate your comments mate. Makes making the videos worth while. Cheers
Amazing :-D Thank you for sharing this. So far from what i probably ever will drive on two wheels :-)
Good on you Thomas, cheers mate.
Once again an informative video of your desert trip..loved it..👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks you Susie.
Bit of a bummer for mark to not make it across with you guys. You all made getting up big red look easy.
Pretty awesome to see all the greenery and water in eyre creek, last year i rode up the creek thinking why is there a creek in the desert! haha
I like the time lapse at 51:56 , it even shows the sand moving, very cool. Congrats on another crossing sir and cheers 4 sharing it with us.
Sure was a bummer for Mark mate. To get that far and over all the real hard stuff. Next time for sure.
Thanks for watching mate and have a good one.
Almost makes me want to learn to ride the 1290 on sand. Almost.
Now that would be awesome seeing a 1290 out there.
Cheers adventurist TV
That was so enjoyable to watch and I can only imagine the feeling of conquering the crossing. Maybe a bit like winning a grand final, pure exhilaration at the top of big red. Brilliant video Craig
Thanks Jeff, certainly was a good feeling.
Appreciate the support mate.
What an effort with those bikes and what an adventure. I really enjoyed watching it and it’s nice to have seen it from two points of views; yours and Nerb1’s. 👍🏻🍻🤠🇸🇪🇳🇿
Cheers jon71 Lerum, hopefully with both Nerbs and my videos it gives you a good insight into our adventure.
Who was the numpty that down thumbed this video. Seriously? Well done gentlemen great effort in crossing the Simpson.
I don't understand that also Wasca but what can you do hey. Guess the crossing is not everyone's cup of tea.
Great work on making it all that way without dropping your bike. Great series of videos, thank you for sharing
Thanks Danny, guess luck was on my side.
Have a good one mate.
You're a bloody good bloke mate - would have you on any ride - good on ya.
Hey Bike Rider NZ, who knows maybe one day mate. Cheers
Thanks for sharing this awesome adventure! 👍🏻
Thank you Tiuskilin, glad you liked it mate.
Mate, that was so good. What a terrific adventure and so well documented. I’m very impressed.
Good on your BBR, appreciate the comments mate. Have a good one.
One word... EPIC!!! Such a great trip recorded from the three of you... thx heaps mate!
Cheers mate, memories for ever.
Craig Great video Mate well done on the crossing bloody hard work look forward to seeing more adventures
Thanks Glenn, thanks for the comments mate.
You look a bit cold there mate
She certainly was fresh in the mornings, but soon warmed up once on the bike. Cheers Mark
I agree with everyone else's comments Craig, great videos and keep them coming.
Thanks Kev, glad you like them mate.
Another great vid mate - well done. I felt for old mate on the Husky tho... he was sooooo close.
You are spot-on Jarrad, he was so close and had done all the hard rough stuff. Really feel for Mark, oh well could be another trip back out there one day.
What an epic ride thanks for taking the time to put the video togather.
You are welcome Richard and thanks for the support.
I’ve watched this series three times over the last few years. Never get sick of it. Such a great series.
Good on you mate. Thanks for the support. Cheers
Well done, great series, really enjoyed watching you guys.
Cheers AGNI Fahrer, glad you are enjoying them mate.
Good one guys 👍👍👍👍 can't wait for the next one cheers
Thanks Andrew, nest one out soon mate.
this series better than the picture tube, look forward to the next one cant beat sitting down with a beverage and watching the day unfold.. great stuff
Cheers ADV MOTO RIDER, hopefully a few beverages were enjoyed whilst watching. Have a good one mate,
Your trip was awesome to watch as well mate. Hope that your leg is all better now!
Awesome!!! Loved the tips as well! :-) Very interesting and educational, as to how you tackle those long dunes.
Thanks in2ADV, glad you liked it mate. I hope it helps in some way. Cheers again
Good riding Craig. That waterhole would've been welcome.
Sure was Rob. Didn't even touch the sides as they say.
Thanks for the support mate.
Bloody legendary stuff. Proof there’s no ‘I’ in team. Great footage, great effort. Just magical. Hard to imagine how hard that riding is without doing it, I guess. But sounds (from the puffing) like a huge effort. Well done
Thanks Moto Gus, places as remote as that certainly need teamwork. Funny thing is I didn't realise I was blowing so much until I watched it back.
cheers mate.
Nice one.
Fantastic. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Martin.
I'm sold on these wr250r's
Light Weight is the way to go
Less Fuel
Less wear you out
Less wear on the bike
Easier to pick up
Me too
They certainly are amazing bikes. If I was 30kgs lighter I think I would consider it too.
Makes crossing the Simpson easier that's for sure,
They just about can do everything the big bikes can do, just a don't have that top end speed but can do the speed limit no problems.
Fantastic your a great team player great riding
Thanks Mark, have a good one mate.
I could watch you pick me up all day! Thanks so much for your help and these videos. I will be able to relive everything for ever! Even the bits that I missed on the bike. Cheers mate!🍻
Hey mate, I would pick you up all day.
It was a shame we all didn't get to complete it together however it still was a awesome adventure. Now we have memories forever.
Talk soon mate.
Enjoy watching your videos. I imagine it must take ages to go through the footage and to make these videos. Thanks.
A question; why did you move from the 1190 to the 690?
Did you not watch the video?
Did you not watch the video?
Cheers Paul for the comments mate. Certainly worth all the work filming and editing. Some great memories for all.
I reluctantly sold the 1190 as I wanted something more suited to enduro. If I could afford both I would have never sold it. Guess thats every blokes dream to have a bike for all types of terrain.
Cheers mate.
What a bastard for Mark and the Husky. Bummer.
Very true Steve, considering he had just done all the real tough stuff and was on the home stretch. Next time for sure.
Big Red!! Awesome job, mate 👍 A well-deserved beer at Birdsville, and Brendan's shoey was great 😂
ahahahah the shoey was super. Cheer again mate.
Congrats lads great achievement
Cheers Wingman
Good to watch again during the quarantine...
Glad you enjoyed it a second time mate.
Great video..
Cheers SD Canyon, have a good one mate.
At 8:15 -- that surveyor Lindsay was a real man
Amazing effort by him.
Nice grafting.
701 frame = 690?
I believe they are very similar. Cheers Chris
Thoroughly enjoyed that mate. Great adventure and well put together. Thanks for sharing
Cheers Bolt Action. Glad you like the mate.
Great adventure man!!
Love the KTM 690R 😊
Keep on downloading great adventure tours in Australia 🇦🇺
Cheers Sahi Dekel, glad you like it mate.
Still got a few more parts of this adventure to come and then some epic news of a Big Adventure next year.
Shadower 75 nice one!
I’m looking forward to watch your new video and the adventure tours.
Love The Australia 🇦🇺 Desert 🌵 cool place for adventure bikes 🏍
Thank you 😊
Shadower 75 looking forward for that mate 👍🏽
Absolutely brilliant... loving the videos and how you have put it all together! This series I think out of all the ones on UA-cam including mine is the best! You really show all the aspects of doing the Simpson. Oh and you’re a Bloody Top Bloke! :-) Cheers... Mark
Again mate, some very kind words there but the best, I don't think so mate. ;)
Anyway mate, hope all is good in your world.
Congratulations Craig! What an amazing journey for you all. Fantastic achievement. Great watching! 👍😁
Cheers again Robert.
Brilliant mate. Really enjoyed that one. Great effort all round. Shame about the snapped Husky....
Hey Russ, sure was a shame about the husky. Thanks for the support mate.
How bloody good was that. Amazing scenery mate. Thanks for sharing. Ya livin the dream.
Thanks dwlee67, very lucky to tick that one of the list mate. Have a good one now.
Top series of videos - well done boys.
Thanks John.
Another great vid, well done👍
Cheers Convict.
Thanks for finally giving some solid info on riding the Simpson. What speed your doing, what gear your in, this stuff is missed from most other vlogs and gives great insight. You’ve thoroughly covered the run so far. Fantastic
HIREATH, I'm stoked you liked the videos mate. I always wonder if that's what you want to hear? I know I find it interesting.
Cheers again mate and have a good one.
Wow all that sand is hard work. i can hear all the labored breathing. My only taste of sand was in Baja. Barely made it out of a 70 mile stretch. Someday you should do a how to ride Simpson Desert sand with a 690. I know you talked about getting over dunes. But, you should go in more detail in feral. You Aussie really know how to ride sand.
Cheers mate. We certainly have loads of sand over here for riding. Thanks for the comments mate and have a good one.
What an epic ride, loved your commentary, love the sound of the big KTM 690, my kidneys would have been mud and the arms jelly, nice ride
Hey Fishpest, thanks for the support mate. I too love that 690 sound.
Thanks for sharing these great video's, I do want to ask, who's fuel bladder do you prefer.
Thanks MaynStream Inc. I do really like my 8L Giant Loop bladder as it has plenty of tie down points and seems to be really sturdy however it doesn't have a poor attachment so getting the fuel into the tank can be tricky exercise. I would like to check out Liquid containment ones also.
@@Shadower75 Thanks for the reply, those look like they'd work well, but expensive. I've used Rotopax in the past and they're great because they seal really well however, they can be a bit more challenging to pack.
@@maynstreaminc151 No problem MaynStream. I also like the Rotopax and when I priced up all the options they were cheaper (not by much though). I also like the option of once I have used the bladder I can roll it up, and it takes up no room and hardly any weight. I guess all options have pros and cons we just have to choose what's best for each ride hey. Cheers again
Shadower 75, have a look at this: www.giantloopmoto.com/product/ez-pour-spout-kit/ 😉 Love your content 👍
I'm upset I just discovered this GOLD!! Good on ya, Craig.
Cheers Lewis. Glad you are liking them mate.
Awesome adventure and top spirit, Thanks for sharing (The 690 was great...but...bloody 250's are the ticket!)
Cheers Juan, appreciate the comment mate but your dreaming when you say you love the 250's.. lol
Even watching from home I’m imagining that first beer at Birdsville
Hey mate, that first beer didn't even touch the sides! Went down very nicely. Cheers Andrew.
Epic. That 1190 is a heavy beast all loaded up. If your choice had to be 250 or 1190 for this trip, which one? Fantastic editing, my binge watch continues.
Big bike for sand riding that is for sure. For me I'd go bigger rather then smaller every time.
Inspiring videography Craig. Great memories for you all.
Cheers Southern Seclusion, glad you liked it mate.
I’ve really enjoyed these videos and following you guys on this adventure. 👍😎
Thanks Brad, glad you have liked them all mate.
Ahaha just as I commented I wanted part 4! How many hours per day were you guys doing?
Those first 5 days we were averaging 8 - 10 hrs a day in the saddle.
Cheers again NippyMoto
Your positivity and support of your mates is awesome. I don't know what comments you edit out, but what stays in is a great example of how to keep everyone feeling good, especially poor old Mark.
Hey Marcel, thanks for your comments mate. Glad you liked the vid. Mark will be back bigger than ever.. Cheers
