- This was a crazy unassisted Simpson Desert. Nugget's bike falls to pieces along the way, Alex breaks his back, Philippe cracks his nose, Mal breaks his ribs and I film the mayhem.

For sure...I loved your approach to the crossing....just do it on whatever bikes we have running at the time from the shed. I love Nugget....he is like your riding soul mate...good stuff Dave.A+

Man, As someone that's broken his back while on 2 wheels I can see in Alex's eyes exactly what he's feeling. That being said, I was not in a remote location but I refused to believe I was seriously injured and I pushed on as long as I could. It actually made me uncomfortable to see. I know exactly how he's feeling and the slow and ever building realization through increased pain and the depression of realizing whats happened as the fog of denial lifts, is like a bad dream. The pain seemed to last 10+ years.

Great video. I did it in 99 and left my Teneree there, burnt out, and again 2 years later on a stock DR650. Now I have a 640 Adventure and a 690 Adventure.

I tell you, Any group worth being a part of, Always has a nugget. I would say i'm the nugget of my group and that would have been very true in my younger years but these days, we worked in a younger nugget. My bones ache and my patience has been thinning, unlike my waist.

I'm always surprised at how many set out for the Simpson without good sand tires and a bit more practice with the bike loaded up heavy. I crossed it back in 74~75 i think with my Dad in a Nissan Patrol 4X4. We didn't run into anybody until Poppels Corner. The old French line looks like a track down to the beach it must be taking a load of traffic now.
Legendary stuff. I’ve enjoyed watching this footage many times. In fact, I watched the Magadan trip again last night.
Not sure how many times i have watched this now, but still enjoy it as much.

Congratulations on completing your last section of that massive trip. Simpson crossing was a great way to finish it. It shows how careful you must be. Hope all injured recover well (bikes too!). Fantastic video (again). Thanks for sharing your experiences. 👍😁

Awesome video....i feel like there was more. The video cut off after the build? Thanks for sharing the dunes reminded me of the sand dunes in southern California Glamis. I probably wouldn't ride my tiger 800 across them but my Drz400 did well out there. I think we should give Nugget a handicap for the tail section. His bike looked to be the oldest most experienced so i say unassisted🤣

We did the exact ride about 20yrs ago unassisted on a dt175 and a kdx175..both unregistered (young and dumb), took us 5 weeks from Melbourne, up to Alice, doing the Simpson, then onto Sydney and back to Melbourne again, the ONLY issue we had was a nut came undone in the kdx gearbox which we sorted with Loctite, a hammer and screwdriver to do up the nut , that was it, no other issues, ill be doing it again in 2022 on the tenere 700...cant wait...
Hopefully we'll be crossing with Teneres in 2020.

You need to ride at 11 km per hour to escape flies.

Heavy bikes in deep sand with 50-50 or 70-30 street biased tires is hell.
My tires are the meanest street legal knobbies I could find and tho they make a world of difference its still hard enough. Florida sand can be like sugar. Good job guys, show the world us old farts still got it.

This is the last crew id go on a adventure out in the middle of no where with.... totally unprepared with several bikes that are pieces of shit , just makes what should be a good time into a nightmare.....

I love the UK don't get me wrong but there's no way in hell you could do something like this, even in mainland Europe you'd be hard pressed to find any wide open spaces to do this

We all have had fractures caused by riding bikes. Pain, discomfort and six weeks later allgood. Trust me when you break a bone or two you will know the difference, that part of your body ain't in the right place and a surgeon has to put it back together. Glad he healed up okay from his get off. A good video to watch. Nugget sure looks like the kind of man you would want with you in tough situation, overcome & carry on.
