  • Is backuchiol really better than retinol and can it deliver the same results for your anti-ageing skincare routine. Lets discuss and talk the best bakuchiol serum
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin. Today we are talking bakuchiol and the best bakuchiol serum for your skincare routine. Often hailed as being a natural anti-ageing alternative to retinol, is this really the case and what results will a bakuchiol serum deliver in your skin care routine.
Bakuchiol is a plant derived skincare ingredient which, it is claimed, offers the same benefits for the skin as retinol but without any of the side effects. It is able to increase cell turnover to help minimise hyperpigmentation, boost collagen production in the skin to minimise fine lines and wrinkles and hydrate.
Having used bakuchiol in my skincare routine for the past 3 years I wanted to share with you my bakuchiol before and after results and how to layer bakuchiol in your skincare routine.
In this video I will talk you through how to use bakuchiol, whether bakuchiol is better than retinol and of course the best bakuchiol serums on the market.
As with all ingredients I would recommend gradually introducing bakuchiol into your skin care routine and make sure that you do a thorough patch test before in order to ensure the product chosen is right for you.
I would love to know what your own experience has been with bakuchiol so please let me know in the comments section below.

Dr. Dray just did a video on this last week. She says bakuchiol is NOT a replacement for retinols. That you will not get the same results with bakuchiol that you do with retinols. This is a video she did about that article in Allure about some 7 skincare things to watch in 2022 or something like that. I think she wanted to make that very clear because these magazines sometimes stretch "the truth" about certain ingredients and get people all hyped up for nothing. Seen it so many times in the past as magazines do this type of article every January. Happy Sunday to all!

Yes I totally agree its not exactly comparable to retinol (certainly not to prescription strength ones) but i tried it and it worked well for me and i saw some good results.. I think if you can't tolerate retinols then this is a great option, for everyone else i would stick to the traditional retinols for sure.. Hope all is amazing with you and sending you lots of love xxxx

Thank you for the video, lots of helpful info here. I am someone with sensitive skin and my skin reacts really poorly to Bakuchiol. Stinging, redness, itching, etc. However, I am able to use Adapalene every other night no problem. One thing I've heard from dermatologists is that plant-derived ingredients like Bakuchiol can be more problematic to those with sensitive skin than synthetically derived ones. So imo this is not necessarily a sensitive skin-friendly ingredient. There is also some concern about the unsustainable farming required to produce Bakuchiol.

My favorite bakuchiol product for my dry, sensitive skin is from BYBI. It’s 1% bakuchiol in squalane. I mix a few drops into my moisturizer and I’m good to go. I can’t say how much it’s doing in terms of anti-aging, but it makes my skin feel really nice and moisturized.

I’m deciding to actually give that product another honest try, as I only used it for a month when it first came out years ago. Didn’t see any results then, but hoping a longer trial will yield results. I can’t use retinol or any derivatives; I’m only hoping it at least helps acne (there is research that mentions how well it works with salicylic acid).

I've been using the Paula's Choice 0.3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol for the past five months. I'm still on my first bottle and haven't had to repurchase yet, which justifies the price point IMO. I love using the product. I always feel like my skin is super smooth when I wake up and it's definitely helped me to get rid of some of my impurities and uneven skintone. I alternate between that, an AHA and a BHA and I think the combo works really well for me.

So informative, thank you. I've been using a 3% bakuchiol (only 2 ingredients! squalane and bakuchiol) serum for 20 months now, and really can't say if it's been effective in the anti-aging dept because I try and use other things too. After about 2 months I did feel that my skin was brighter, but the real reason I continue to use it, and will repurchase again, is because my dry mature skin loves squalane! Just drinks it in. So I figure since I'll continue using squalane anyway, might as well have bakuchiol in it. Happy Sunday, I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

From what I understand…There have been (a couple) live human studies comparing it to retinol (not prescription strength) and it was found comparable (to non prescription strength retinol) results when it came to photoaging, but there are other things people use retinoids for- like acne, skin smoothing, skin turnover, and collagen synthesis (they have studied bakuchoil more in the pétri dish for this and think it’s similar to retinol) . So in other words retinol (specifically tretinoin) can do more especially for acne than bakuchiol in theory but it hasn’t had enough testing yet to make the same medical claims. That’s why it’s just a cosmetic ingredient for now which means that the products will vary greatly and it’s hard to know what you’re actually getting. But it is undisputedly a good antioxidant and gentle. Honestly I am someone who never had irritation from over the counter retinol (no results either) but who suffered from peeling from tretinoin, but I was finally able to get it under control with the way I applied it (sandwich method to dry skin including Cicaplast balm, ramping up to every night) and it’s completely gone away I am at the highest strength .1%. I feel like I have extremely sensitive skin (even super gentle products have been known to burn my skin before) and if I can make it work almost anyone can. From what I understand you can use both at the same time no harm done !

    • @MadAboutSkin
      @MadAboutSkin  2 роки тому +1

This is so so so true.. I think the results speak for themselves and i got some good ones from bakuchiol.. HOWEVER i don't think the results are exactly the same as retinol and i think for people who can tolerate retinol they should stick with it. Bakuchiol is a great option for those who can't though or to supplement and i hope that came across in the video... Sending you lots of love xxxxxx

My skin is rosacea-prone and super sensitive and by going slowly and sandwiching I’ve even been able to tolerate 0.025% tretinoin with minimal purging. I started years ago with low percentage of retinol and slowly made my way up to tretinoin. I’m glad alternatives exist but imho most people can even tolerate tretinoin if they go slow, buffer and have patience.

Though I know the studies on it are limited I'm still going to keep using it cause how amazing it makes my skin feel. And even though I know we're supposed to avoid touching our faces, I still touch mine way more often than I look at it lol so that matters. I absolutely love the Biossance one (though not thrilled with them calling it "phyto retinol") and if it were in my budget would use it every day but I'm broke lately so I've tried Inky List which I do appreciate that it doubles as a moisturizer and more recently started using one from Good Molecules in an oil which is nice for the winter dryness.

Oh my, just found your channel and doing a bit of binging. Started with one on peptides. I'm a 'lab rat' sort and have tried so.many.products and brands along the way and try to stay up-to-date on research. My skin was fab and receptive until a few years ago. I tried tretinoin for fine lines and hyperpigmentation but found it irritated my LUNGS (literally would feel flu-ish and be coughing the next day) and read up that it was a possible side effect. So, I decided to switch to Bakuchiol. Haven't quite been amazed by a product yet but have only tried Sephora brand 1% and Nacomi 2%. Perhaps a higher concentration would be better but I also find my skin looks/feels a bit drier and that is never good, we want dewy and plump. Maybe I should re-visit Vitamin C. I've been trying different moisturisers and supplements as well to address the dryness. Anyway, a bit of an overshare but think the comment section can handle it. Your vids are a pleasure to watch. Thx!!!

I’m intrigued to know if the Medik8 Bakuchiol Peptides can be used in a morning routine with NIOD CAIS? I can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere. If you can help that would be amazing!!

Hi, I watched some videos that says retinols are bad for eyes, and it is best not to apply it around the eyes. I am wondering if bakuchiol is safe around the eyes?

@@MadAboutSkin haven’t had but about a week. They didn’t prescribe a very strong dose so I am not sure it is going to be worth it. It is also formulated in basically Vaseline so that isn’t great either. Might stick with the adapoline and hydroquinone. It has taken a while but I think I am finally getting to where I know what my skin needs. You have helped me so much with that! ♥️. It’s funny, I feel like I know you from seeing hanging out on UA-cam with you. Lol. Keep showing up pictures of that beautiful new furbaby!! Love and hugs! xxxooo

Unfortunately they don’t ship the Boots serum to Europe. :( And the other options are way too expensive for me. Is the Bakuchiol serum from Revolution Skincare London any good?
