Control surfaces such as your steering wheel are constantly subjected to body oils, grease, lotions, dust, dirt, and the sun’s harmful UV rays. Over time, this can lead to cracking, fading and discolouration of your leather surfaces if they are not treated properly.

Hi Pan,
Koch Chemie se prononce Cor'Kemy, merci !
😉
All product on backorder.
Great video, as always, Pan! It was nice to see some new cleaning pad options too. One observation/suggestion based on my past experience cleaning my own cars, and helping my kids clean theirs, is that by that time most people think about cleaning their steering wheels (not detailing enthusiasts, "most people") they are much, much dirtier than what you show in your video. I have made the mistake in the past of just making one or two cleaning passes and thinking I was done because the most obvious dirt was removed. But, it wasn't until I saw some of the Colourlock videos (one with Obsessed Garage in particular) where they showed what the dirt looks like (even after obvious surface dirt was removed) and showed a clean matte surface (like you did here) that I figured out how to tell when I was "done" cleaning. That actually takes a lot of patience, if you are doing "light" cleaning passes rather than heavy. After that experience, I started cleaning much more regularly, which results in an experience more like what you show here. Just wanted your viewers to know that the first time you try this, it may be a longer process to get it really clean. Thanks for your dedication to both the detailing world and to excellence in your video production! Always enjoy your videos, and I've learned a ton in the process, which I now apply all the time.
Thanks Jax! And yes the average steering wheel will be much much dirtier than mine for sure. When I detail customers’ cars, it’s shocking the amount of filth that comes out. And yes many light cleaning passes are the key.
It's those small details like neutralizing the cleaner. I have suffered from a sticky steering wheel and this 1 little step has made my life so much better. Genuine thank you from the Palm of my hand.
Just watched this, it's 2:20 am and now I want to go and clean my steering wheels. Don't care if the neighbours think I'm crazy! I am crazy. Crazy about detailing, and it's all your fault Pan! 😂
Haha I love it!
I do same thing! I have a new car and watched an interior detailing video and went out to clean inside of my new car at 10pm at night. I'm in an apt so people walking in parking garage gave me some crazy looks!LOL😂
Always appreciate each and every video you post. Always learning something new. Ive started car detailing 2 months and 1/2 ago. And just yesterday I did my first clay and seal. Reflecting on how I got there, it all went well thank god. Customer is happy and im happy, love learning and detailing cars. Thank you for being an important factor in my Journey. Keep doing what you're doing

I really love your tutorials. Everything understandable and no talking around. I had Pol star already but did not know I could use it for leather aswell. I used it for my upholstery seats. thx man, keep it up
Thanks Leon! I appreciate the positive feedback. Have a great weekend!

Another excellent well detailed video on something that should not be overlooked. Thanks pan🏆
Thanks!
I've been detailing cars professionally for over 25 years, the leather on steering wheels is unprotected and is susceptible to the the alkaline salts in hand sweat over time if not regularly cleaned as many on here will know, an APC can expose these compromised areas even further and eat through to the foam underneath. Pan's choice of product and pad are perfect. This is one area where your otherwise safe APC can become a legitimate liability especially if you are working professionally for customers
There you go. Thanks for sharing your experience too! ;)
I cleaned my wheel with apc meguiar before and it peeled eventually
Great video Pan, love that shot of the steering wheel. A very nice looking interior!!!
Thanks!! 😁
I've used Jojoba oil as a protectant on my leather steering wheel, shift knob and leather driving gloves and it has worked very well for me over the years. The oil nourishes the leather nicely and increases the cohesion between the leather glove and leather steering wheel, resulting in the very light touch I like to maintain on the steering wheel.
Ah man!! This is neat. As usual, Pan, you are The Man! (Pun and rhyme intended) 😁You and your channel are appreciated. I started following you about four maybe five years ago. I believe the first video I watched was the one where you wanted to help people organize and keep their homes organized. From there, I also watched and appreciated the videos you first posted about washing microfiber towels, everything else detail related. 😎 The sheer cleanliness, well-thought organization as well as the depth of thought and detail (pun intended) you put into your videos is world-class. Always great! Prolific. I will shall always stay a follower. 👍
Ah thanks so much for the kind words and for your support throughout the years Bryan. It always means a lot to me to get positive feedback from my viewers as producing these videos is a lot of hard work. So it’s nice to see my efforts don’t go unnoticed.
What’s your favourite video on my channel so far?
Thx again Pan 🎉That reminds me cleaning my wife’s old Honda accord … The steering wheel had never been cleaned (>10 years). After cleaning layers and layers of “stuff🤢”... i fell confident i was ready to go in the desert and discover the next dinosaur remains 😅
Right on!
Since I work in a hospital, my car’s interior gets a weekly cleaning. My Lithium Auto Elixir Inner Space, brushes, and Leather Love does a great job.
I also work in a hospital, 40 years now, but don't know why that would have anything to do with cleaning your car weekly? I admit I do the same, but only because I love my cars.
I picked up the ColorLock brush based on a video from you a few years back, but it felt too abrasive on my 540i steering wheel. I’ve since switched to using a soft detailing brush with CG leather cleaner solution. Maybe I’m not actually cleaning enough, it’s hard to say because I can’t look at what comes off with this method. I do get some nice suds and am hoping the soap is doing the work. After a few years I’ve still got a matte finish so hopefully I’m on the right track.
I’d been putting a small coat of Meguiar Gold Class Leather Conditioner after cleaning, but I see now that this is wrong! Thanks for the tip!
Multiple passes of a softer brush can work too. As long as you see a matte finish when you’re done cleaning, that’s what you want. An oily glossy look means it’s still dirty.
Pan, as always perfect job. Scrub Pub is great for interior cleaning.
Congratulations on a beautiful car and greet from Poland.
Thanks! 👍
Love your videos, please never stop sharing your knowledge. You're the best 😎🍻
Thanks I appreciate the support! 😁👍🏻
Great video Pan 👍🏻👍🏻. For the clean freaks like me, it’s great refresher on the colourlock vid you did a couple years ago. Well done..!
Thanks Francis!
Colourlock also released a new leather coating that I tested here: ua-cam.com/video/VMNuRSdSWDo/v-deo.html
Just coming back to report what you already know… the scrub ninja sponge was fantastic! I previously reported having issues getting my wife’s makeup off of her steering wheel and using the same product I have always used (Gyeon Mild Leather Cleaner), this sponge got the product to lather like I have never seen and worked out the makeup leaving the steering wheel looking brand new from the factory!!
Thanks for sharing!! I love viewer feedback. Have a great weekend Michael!!
Anyone tell you, you are like the Anthony Bourdain of your craft. Detailed in and through products and life essentials like he was with food an cultural lol. Love it!
Ah thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Anthony really did some great things for the culinary world!
Even how Pan detail brushes his interior is gentle and elegant.
I would let u put make up on my daughter's face any day. Lol
Ahhaah thanks Abel!
I love options and I always look for what may be added to my garage. When it comes to steering wheels I like to make sure they are as clean as possible. I have had clients that believed a shiny leather steering wheel looked good...until I educate them. Then they appreciate the clean, matte finish at the end. Thanks Pan for this review. Might be placing an order.
Thanks Brandon!
@@PanTheOrganizer is this the same procedure for all interior leather?
Well pan, this is actually a new way that I’m gonna try in the near future! I’ve been using P&S express interior cleaner, a brush and a microfiber to clean the wheel. Not the best way but it lifts out most of the dirt out of the small areas
I use the same method based on Pan’s recommendation in a previous video! Works for me but like the addition of the leather protection afterwards
P&s xpress is a great cleaner btw. I use leather star after to condition
@@johnevans715I love that xpress interior cleaner. Works really well and you don’t have to do much. Smells great too
@@Static_MK3Focus oh yea smells amazing too.
@@johnevans715 just me or is it satisfying when you spray it on the leather and scrub it with the brush and it foams up and you see all the dirt come out?
Love the video. I always wondered if I was cleaning my leather steering wheel correctly..
Thanks Stuart!
Great video as usual! You definitely know your stuff Pan!
Thanks Eric!
Thank you so much for this. I was wanting a video for steering wheels. You are the best. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the feedback! 😁👍🏻
Awesome cleaning video Pan, Thank you! I’ve been meaning to clean up my IS F steering wheel that’s perforated and needs a good cleaning. Really appreciate your methods and cleaners with the explanation of why to use what cleaner on what surface.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Brilliant guide Pan, thanks for the UK links.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Great Video. I love those scrub ninja pads. They are great for leather seats and all leather cleaning. I also use the colorlock protector thanks to your recommendations. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing!!
Pan you should do one on steering wheels that are many years old and have a thick shiny layer on them. I am having trouble getting mine totally matte. After I do your steps, I can still see some shine and I can also easily dig my finger nail and make a gouge. I don't know if its leather or dirt I am scraping off, so I am afraid to clean too hard. Thank you!!!

Thanks Pan, as always great tutorial video
Thanks Alan! I hope you are doing well.
@@PanTheOrganizer I’m doing well, thanks
Can’t wait to see your contents from sema
Good one. I like the break down of just the steering wheel. Couple this video with the entire interior detail you did awhile back and I'm covered. Your interior detail was tremendous. Thx Pan.
Thanks Kim! I always appreciate the positive feedback!
Perfect timing as I need to clean my steering wheel. Thanks Pan!
😁👍🏻
Thank you Pan for your feedback!
My pleasure Mark!
Hey Pan, for the last 2 years or so, I’ve been using Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Inside Job on my steering with one microfibre cloth to apply the product and then one to buff it off. I have been doing this on a bi-weekly basis and it’s been great, but I’ve noticed that left side of my steering wheel (which I tend to use more than the right side) is starting to look a bit shiny likely from build up of hand oils. Would you suggest I consider using a steam cleaner to get rid of that build up? I want to get that matte, sheen appearance back.
I would use a dedicated leather cleaner and a leather brush for that task, not Inside Job. Keep in mind Inside Job is a general task cleaner and protectant.
On leather, I prefer dedicated leather care products which are pH balanced for that (leather is not pH neutral, it’s slightly acidic).
Better do multiple light rounds of leather cleaner and leather than one heavy round of cleaner. Then apply a leather protection once you get that OEM matte appearance.
@@PanTheOrganizer thanks for the timely response as always, Pan
Hello. I'm using on upholsery both product, KC and Lederzentrum but for the steering wheel, the second it is my option. But a better solution is from Valet Pro, it's a soap that can stay a lot of time in the surface. This product lift the residues from the pores and then gently erase the residue with warm water. After this, you can aply Elephant Leather Preserver from Colourlock. But are so many options...I told you just I'm doing in my detailing business. Thank you and greetings from Romania.
Salutare. Elephant Leather Preserver nu lasa un aspect lucios? Mie imi place sa am un finish mat pentru piele, in special pe volan. As incerca Gyeon.
Asadar in regim DIY e ok si Gyeon, pt afaceri unde clientul revine dupa mult timp, LEP..
Thanks for watching!
Great video Pan and like you I use Pol star and a scrub ninja! Top Star is a an awesome product but I recently started using DYI detail interior ceramic which you may want to try as I did not see you use this product in the video with Yvan. The point about not flooding the steering wheel buttons with cleaner is spot on. Thank you for another helpful video.
Thanks Neil!
Great video like always!
Thanks Nathan!
Thank you for some new tips on cleaning. I thought maybe I was cleaning my Steering Wheel on my vehicles to often. Great video as always Pan.
Thanks Aaron!
Great tutorial as always.
Thanks!
Another great demo. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks David!
Well made video! That KC Foamer Bottle with Polestar is fantastic. Well worth the money! I use the CarPro glove for my leather seats at home. Cleaning is much faster. I use the LS for protection. Good product but I don't like the smell. A leather scent would have been better. Personally i prefer to use a leather coating for my steering wheel. It gets greasy less quickly.
Thanks for sharing!
Great job Pan!! Looks like you just picked this up from the dealership. Nice work!!
Thanks Gerard!
I do the same. Except one thing. The leather steering wheel is done weekly. I feel just the natural skin oils get into the leather and eventually will eat away the leather feeling.
I do the same thing. I work with kids so I clean my steering wheel quite often because of germs and bacteria! Parents send kids to school sick daily!😮 so yeah, I sanitize it too.
Pan right on queue with another great video! Having some issues with my wife’s makeup being hard to remove from her steering wheel. Those more aggressive applicators look perfect for the job!!
Thanks Michael!

Good video. A couple vidoes ideas since you seem to always ask for suggestions. First one is how to clean underneath door handles, lots of threads about after rains dirty drip down marks from underneath car door handles and mirrors but no good videos or answers. Second idea... Christmas gifts / stocking stuffer ideas for detail enthusiasts. Third basics on how to remove seats for detailing. Just some thoughts. Keep up the good work

A few dr leather wipes on all the leather dried off with a micro fibre cloth does the trick
Great video as usual Pan. Every time I clean my leather, whether it be the steering wheel or seats, the white stitching turns brown. Is there any tips or suggestions you have to prevent this?
Nice, important to do as every time the car moves, hands are on the wheel....
Exactly!
Time to do an updated video on how to clean microsuede! Should one use the ninja scrub towels on an alcantara steering wheel or seat, arm rest?
Here’s a good video on that topic: ua-cam.com/video/T40dVP83EeM/v-deo.html

I’m not a leather repair expert, but you should search Colourlock’s UA-cam channel for leather repair tutorials, they are leather restoration experts.
I always like getting into a new car with a new leather steering wheel. Oh what a feeling! I drove a rental vehicle that had seen quite a bit of use. My hands actually stuck to the steering wheel.
I know what you mean! HAHA
Does this disinfect too?
No. Leather cleaners aren’t powerful enough to disinfect. That’s not what they are designed to do. ALL disinfecting products will do serious harm to leather.
But cleaning the surface should be enough to remove the soiling.

@@PanTheOrganizer how can we disinfect or sanatize or steeringwheel safely?? Do u have a video or can u do one??
Why doesn’t many talk about the Griots Garage Leather conditioner? It makes the leather smell so good.
About the polyurethane clear coat.
Does the seats have the same thing?
Yes. Pretty much all modern leather has a clear coat on it, polyurethane based.
See my tutorial on leather care with leather experts here: ua-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/v-deo.htmlsi=e7HcozbKS3fQKbC1
Would you recommend the same for Tesla steering wheels since I believe it’s not real leather?
You can use a vegan kit like this one: amzn.to/3zq5awM
Hi Pan. Nice video as ever. My question for anyone out there is that my 20 year old BMW E46 has a very shiny steering wheel. I believe it to be clean but can’t get a matt finish. I’ve used leather cleaners and magic erasers but neither solve the problem. I would like it to be grippier! Ideas gratefully received. Look forward to the next video very soon.
Multiple rounds of cleaning are sometimes needed to get the leather super clean. Do you see dirt when you clean and then wipe with a microfiber towel? Is the towel dirty?
I'm not a leather restoration expert, but if you search for leather restoration tutorial from Colourlock on UA-cam, I'm sure you'll find helpful info.
What would be the best way to bring back a leather wheel that has gone all shiny and kind of hard, almost like a plastic? I was thinking about using steam and some mink oil.
Thanks for another fantastic video. I bought Pol Star and the foaming bottle a couple of weeks ago. Work very well. The foam which was produced lasted for a long time. I’m about to pick up a car with alcantara, how would you protect it after cleaning with Pol Star?
Watch my leather and alcantara tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/v-deo.html
I presume Gyeon leather cleaner is also suitable to clean a leather steering wheel? Is there ceramic leather coating ok to apply?
Yes to both questions.
Hi Pan. Very nice one. I see you find another way to be more behind the steeringwheel of your awesome porsche turbo S 😎✅🤘
Thanks 👍
Hi pan brilliant video, I am in need of some leather cleaner as I’ve nearly run out of the one I’m currently using and was just about to pull the trigger on buying this one but did a little research into what ph was safe on leather and found out it’s 4.5 to 5.5 , now with this having a rating of 7.0 is it really safe on leather ? I’m really confused because I can’t see Koch or you getting it wrong and it’s only for doing my own car I look forward to your response
Regards Brad
Oh yes absolutely no worries for using pH neutral leather cleaners. It’s the same pH as water.
It’s not like using a highly alkaline pH 12 APC that could damage the leather potentially.
Hi Panos, I have AMG Alcantara steering wheel with a yellow leather stripe center top. I've noticed the yellow stripe is now discoloring, kind of dull greyish film coat over the yellow. I've wiped it using a soft damp cloth, seems the color will not clear up to the bright yellow that it use to be when new. Any tips on how to get it back to looking new again? car is only 3 months old, i've always made sure hands are clean and free from any greasy feel...
See this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/T40dVP83EeM/v-deo.html
I think I used an APC that was too harsh and my steering wheel lost some color at the 12 o clock position. It could of been sun exposure too.
Can I just use regular seat dye to recolor it?
Hi Mike! I don't do leather restoration, but Colourlock (leather experts) have many on their channel, like this: ua-cam.com/video/5mlMd4TR7Do/v-deo.html
I just bought a steering wheel cover but do you still suggest removing that cover to clean it sometimes? Or no?
Maybe once a year just to make sure it stays clean underneath.
Pan you ever watch the gong show? With Gene Gene the dancing machine? Well your PanPan the cleaning man!😂 love the videos buddy
Ahahahhaa I have no idea what that show is
I think I used the wrong product on my leather steering wheel once and now it looks blotchy and faded. Will these products help restore it or do you recommend anything else to help restore the leather?
It depends on what your actual issue is. It won't hurt to do this, that's for sure.
Pan i did this , but it didnt work reallg good i used the same products , the person uses a lot of hair gel (and it looked like its in the leather ?
Some times, many rounds of light cleaning are needed. Of course, I can't see the steering wheel and don't really know what happened to it, so it's hard to troubleshoot. Perhaps a more aggressive cleaner like the Colourlock Leather Cleaner Strong. What brushes are you using?
Hey pan! Love the videos, and in particular this one! My car has an alcantara steering wheel, or on Porsche’s known as ‘Race Tex’. It’d be great if you could do a video on how to clean and maintain a clean steering wheel for this material?
Thanks! Until I make a dedicated video on alcantara steering wheels, you can watch this video for alcantara steering wheels: ua-cam.com/video/T40dVP83EeM/v-deo.html
There is also this video I made about leather and alcantara care with some industry experts here: ua-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/v-deo.html
Hi Pan! Big fan! Question...I have a 3 yr old bmw 3 series...and never cleaned the steering wheel 😮. What products should I use? Should I go with what you recommended here? Or try something stronger? Thank you!
For a 3 year old vehicle, here's the kit I would recommend: amzn.to/3GCpsYa
With this brush: amzn.to/3gcIoCo
And you can see me use a kit like that on my own previous BMW M550i steering wheel here: ua-cam.com/video/ukIuqk8noyk/v-deo.html
@@PanTheOrganizer thank you so much!
Actually...I need to clean and protect my leather seats too...same car. What products would you recommend? Thank you again! 🙏
Exact same products and procedure. Those are products made for leather surfaces.
Thank you!
Love the step by step 👌
Curious question, roughly how long does a freshly clean wheel last roughly?
Great vid pan, I have two questions sir! Would you recommend using pol star as cleaner for the leather before coating it with Leather 2.0 from carpro or use inside/Q2M leathercleaner ? and
which one do you prefere Q2M Leather shield or Leather 2.0 carpro ? Keep up the awsome vids!!
Where can I get the foam cleaner you used first?
It’s the cleaner simply put in a foaming pump sprayer. Links to everything in the video description.
Would you recommend using the P&S xpress on leather ?
Yes it can be used on leather. See my P&S Xpress review: ua-cam.com/video/bz7h-HfSdRg/v-deo.htmlsi=PNm9GNt0riXLJ9rG
Great work Pan, I'm also going to clean my dad's BMW's steering wheel 'cause it's very shiny looking. Unfortunately the car got into a small accident at my local mall's parking lot. Some paint transfer from the car which was at fault, and the front bumper also lost a considerable ammount of paint. Probably needs to be resprayed and ceramic coated again☹️
I hope you are ok!
@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you for your concern Pan! Yes I'm fine and everyone involved are also fine👍🏻. Luckily the bumper didn't break so it's only cosmetic damage and therefore easily fixable👍🏻
Nice video Pan, can you do a full detail on your interior with all the products you use on your Porsche ?
I already did two of those:

@@PanTheOrganizer I saw those, was wondering if you have changed your process...

Is there anything you can do to show the rejuvenation of neglected leather and plastics? My steering wheel has been neglected and the leather needs to be restored. There are also plastic pieces/clips on the car that, after 25 years have become brittle. Any thoughts?
I don't have such videos yet, but I can see if there's enough interest from my viewers to produce one in the future.
@@PanTheOrganizer Yeah, thanks. I certainly wouldn't presume to tell you how to go about creating content, but perhaps it would prove interesting to take on some older cars such as those belonging to members of various car clubs. I don't know much about how Quebec is these days, but Ontario and Quebec were always big classic car areas once upon a time. There, you would still get cool cars, but also might have an opportunity to get into something that needs a little extra loving or rejuvenation in its old age. I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud. Anyhow, cheers, see you in your next video.
Could you please provide a link for the APC cleaner that you spoke of to clean your scrub pads, and a link for the sponge that you use to apply the leather conditioner? Thx
Any APC will do, but here's one I like: bit.ly/4bbjF8A

@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you!!
Great video , as always! Off subject question: What is the round button for in the lower right quadrant of your steering well ?
Thanks Randy. That button is a driving mode selector. To go from normal, to sport, sport plus or wet mode.
Bought the colourlock strong cleaner, why does it leave a gloss finish behind? Does it have to be neutralized?
Yes always neutralize cleaners with a damp towel, as I explained in the video. And don't confuse "gloss" or satin effect, with a glossy more greasy/dirty appearance. Also, keep in mind you might not have fully removed the grease or dirt, so multiple passes are often needed. Multiple light passes, rather than one heavy pass.
The KC foamer requires the concentrate first as well I believe. Is that correct? Thank you
I don’t understand your question.
@@PanTheOrganizer for the Koch Chemie foamer bottle. It’s got the ratios from bottom up 1:5,1:4,1:3 etc
For this style, doesn’t the chemical go in first, then water?
I was waiting for a video like this. I tried to use Chemical Guys leather conditioner on my steering wheel after I cleaned it but it gave it grease/slippery kind of feel which isn't safe for a steering wheel. How about the one you're using?
Thank you for the video!
The products I use are high quality and leave the steering wheel feeling like new, non slippery. Just nice clean and protected leather.
@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you!
Hi Pan, is leather star good from keeping it from looking shiny over time?? Or is it just a protectant and there’s something better to maintain it’s “matte” finish
Regular maintenance is what prevents oil buildup.
@@PanTheOrganizer thank you Pan
Hey Pan would you recommend applying koch-chemie leather star protection on a new car? Leather seats and steering wheel?
As soon as you take delivery of a new car it’s time to start protecting all the exterior and interior surfaces.
Great video! I always enjoy your content Pan and the tips and information you share. Do you have any videos about how to speed up on paint corrections and coatings? I always feel like I spend too much time even though I have many years of experience. It normally takes me 15-20 hours for a wash, decon, correction, prep and coating. I read about guys doing it in half the time. Am I just slow or too ocd? Thanks!
I have a video for you: ua-cam.com/video/33ChaMf8dCM/v-deo.html
Can I use a matte interior detailer on the steering wheel (leather)?
If it says it can be used on leather, yes.
I used to clean and protect but now I only clean and skip the protect cause I noticed when I protected the oily residue gets on my hands and makes the steering wheel more slippery a bit dangerous to drive so now I only protect the horn part.
I never had issues with the quality leather protection that I use. What exact products were you having issues with?
Nice video as usual, how do I clean vegan leather in the steering wheel? Thank you so much.
Same methods, and typically you can use the same products as leather and it's ok, but they also now make a dedicated kit for vegan leather here: amzn.to/4c67z1q
