Why does he need to be a gym leader? And how much would that even make sense? Just because the rival in the first games did it on the gen 2 games, doesn't mean they all have to. And it hardly made sense back then either.
Big fan of Ash, so much so she catches a Pawmi(a Pikachu "clone"). She tries to not evolve it, because Ash never evolved his Pikachu. Something changes and either Pawmi wants to evolve or she has to evolve him, and boom, end of season one.
Riko and Dawn don't really look that similar? Dawn doesn't have bright blue eyes..especially in her newer appearances! Both in Journey and the DP remakes her colors have been changed where her blue hair and blue eyes are much darker and duller..not really blue anymore
Riko just needs to be the daughter of at least 1 character of the legacy cast. I'd prefer Ash and/or Dawn, but as long as she is a cousin, niece, grandchild, etc, I'd be down. Granted, I'm not someone that's kept up with the series since the end of the Diamond & Pearl Generation, but it just feels right to have the story follow the legacy cast descendents.
I'm surprised he didn't talk about the new MC's bio which supports the "Ash is the father theory" Riko comes from the Kanto region and enrolls in the Paldea region's school. She also has a talent for bonding with Pokemon and only the faculty knows who her parents are and she refuses to talk about who her parents are with her peers
That was a 4chan copypasta, so don't get your hopes up there. The only official info we have is on the TV Tokio website, which just reveals Riko's name and that the story "takes place in the whole Pokémon world", presumably a similar premise to Journeys
I have a strong feeling that just how we were introduced only to Ash’s mother only… Ash is going to be the father and whose the mother will be left open ended

Love the eye genetics talk. My old science teacher tried to tell me a brown eyed person would never have a blue eyed kid. Even at 14, I saw the stupidity in that - rare is not the same as impossible. My grandparents had brown and blue eyes. Out of their three kids, one did turn out with my grandfather's true blues.
In my family several members have non brown eyes, even my dad has honey colored eyes, and generation skipping genes are common. I have a set of nephews with gray green eyes even though both their parents have brown eyes but one of the grandparents had that trait.
My father has brown eyes and my mother has green. I’m the only one in my immediate family to have blue eyes (though even then, I also have central heterochromia so they’re blue and green), though my oldest sister’s eye are a bit odd, they tend to change from blue to green.
I personally thought it would be Serena. I haven’t watched X and Y but I know she is the character that most showed romantic interest in him. It’s even implied that she kisses Ash on the escalator. I think it’s the most wholesome answer. I haven’t finished the video yet but I’m throwing my idea out there
Personally I still think it could be Serena. Of course the theory thing is fun but I’d say that based on narrative Serena is the most option, at least in my opinion. Whether or not we see Ash have a kid, I can see the writers at least establishing a partner for Ash
@@rekc_bcq4816 Either Misty or Dawn for me. Ash and Misty did show romantic iterest in each other. And Dawn was the only compantion to actually go see Ash live in the Masters 8 arc. Everyone else stayed at home. I get Misty staying home since she has a real job as Gym Leader, but no one else has anything going on. Also Iris doesn't count, she was there competing.
@@littlekuribohimposte Both valid. Like I said I haven’t fully watch X and Y but I think Serena is a fun character. That and the kiss thing really seals it for me. She wouldn’t be my choice if it weren’t for that. It just makes sense to me
Both of my parents had brown eyes, but my brother and eye were born with blue eyes. The blue eye gene actually came from my maternal grandfather. I think this concept could also apply to hair color.
Ash being the father of Riko have a lot of great story opportunity. For example; since Ash is now considered to be one of the greatest Pokemon trainer ever/Pokemon Master, Riko could be pressured to be as great as her father but struggles coz she doesn't have the same talent as her father does. Then later on, she'll discover that Ash once was an ordinary trainer and not even special but worked hard to be as great as he is now. That could be great lesson to her that hard work can beat natural talent. But I'm fine even if she's just a nobody and doesn't have any relationships with Ash.
To be honest, I believe it's just an art style choice for his daughter to make her unique and make her stand out. If there is anyone Ash would be in the future with then it most likely Serena since they did make a promise to meet again.
they kissed, met again later in journeys, serena tied that blue ribbon to her foot in her her performance outfit, a japanese tradition of endgame and when they departed again, they promised to cheer each other up and as ash departed serena kept gazing into the horizon.
The only reason i want her to be Ash's kid is so that all the parents who grew up watching the anime can send there own kid own a pokemon adventure, i think it would be sweet if they grew up watching Riko's dad the anime and the kid get to watch Riko.
I was thinking this same thing. Pokemon came out when I was seven, and my oldest is now six and is pretty into Pokemon, it would have been a really cool parallel of passing the torch to the next generation.
@@sevillawilliam8571 they are both S teir. I watched more of the older anime, but watched a lot of the stuff with Serena too. I am more of a Misty guy tbh.
Funniest thing is the answer to why Riko has blue hair could be because of hair dye since that has been a game option since X and Y so she could just have black hair and decided to dye it to add some style
Is likely the black is also a design idea. To differentiate the outside hair and inside hair. Anime is very famousfor using blue as subsitution as black
Honestly, you truly never know with anime. One of the Digimon protagonists (Tagiru if anyone's curious) has brown hair with a big patch of red in the middle that you would normally think was dyed, but they showed his mom in one episode and she had the same thing. I'm always surprised when they actually reveal that a character in an anime was dying their hair because I always just assume those whacky colors are natural.
I could see Riko's blue highlights being dyed, but vibrant colored hair in anime is just way too common for it to be chalked up to being dyed(especially considering the fact that the main cast in Pokémon are all like 10).
would be interesting thematically to have riko as ash’s daughter. imagine being the daughter of the world champion. the shadow you’d live in. trying to live up to your father’s name. making a name for yourself. it would be a cool thematic tie in since she is, in a meta sense, his successor.
Considering that Dawn appeared in alot of episodes of Journeys, way more than any other of Ash's past traveling companions, it kinda to make sence. She deliberately went out of her way to go out where Ash was at the moment (sometimes even to different regions other than Sinnoh), or even inviting him for some festivals and events. Of course there were times where they would invite each other for help, or to stop a world ending event, you know a typical monday Sometimes there was little need for her to be in the episode in the first place.
In all fairness, Gen 4 got a lot of attention in Journeys cause of BDSP and PLA, but ignoring that, I find it sweet that Dawn went out of her way to see Ash’s final match
I could still see Ash giving Riko a thunderstone as a symbol of hardwork, might not be the same one but he'd have a positive association with a thunderstone and he gives it to her as such. If Ash is in fact Riko's dad I think it could still work out as Riko wouldn't have inherited talent from him and Ash would encourage her to do whatever she puts her mind to. Would be interesting to see her decide to follow in her dad's footsteps and realize she lacks any talent for it like she would expect so she has to learn the hard way. Then later on Ash challenges her to a duel to test her, and reveals he was talentless and had to work for his skills.
Here's a more interesting point. This, inherently, doesn't matter. It is a TV show about pocket monsters. No matter what way you look at it, Riko's parental figures aren't going to even remotely play an important role. Shipping for shippings sake can be kept to yourself, thank you.
What about if she doesn't even want to be a trainer who battles to become a pro like ash but rather catch al the pokemon and fill the pokedex. That way she isn't just ash 2.0 and it could lead to interesting story points where ash wants her to follow in his footsteps but she has no interest in it even if she has talent.
What would be really cool is if that necklace WAS the thunderstone Ash used to have, and it somehow managed to make its way to her after Team Rocket sold it. Like an insane coincidence linking Ash to the new lead.
@Starvoltsy. Though there was an episode in the last season hinting that he was going to end up with Cassidy, which I am actually not offended to idea of.
2:34 Impossible! remember meowth and team rocket threw out that stone in that one episode when pikachu was injured and wanted him too evolve when he lost..
I honestly think there’s also a strong chance they aren’t really related at all. Ash will become a legendary mythical status of a trainer like Red did, like yugi did in yugioh. And fade into the background going on whatever quests he wants. But he may give or trade a Pokémon to the new characters similar to how yugi gave jaden his winged kuriboh. I don’t think he will give him his pikachu or anything. But maybe an evee or a pichu. Ash will recognize their potential as a serious trainer and by giving him a Pokémon he’s essentially passing the torch like yugi did. But he will still be around occasionally and mentioned often. Especially in the history class at their school, a young trainer who wouldn’t evolve his pikachu who saved the world countless times. Also Brock and vulpix girl, the only romance that matters.

It's hard to do an actual genetic test as we don't know the extended history of the two potential partners. As who knows maybe there was a few recessive genes that hid in the parents DNA that so happenly popped up in the kid effectively making the kid look randomly different from the parents.
Hope they keep telling Ash's story and what he's been up to in the background of the episodes. Like posters announcing a battle or him showing up on a TV hinting at what his plans are. Hope they give him a new look too. Hype up the inevitable Riko vs Ash fight. And who knows, maybe some of Ash's companions will show up to teach the protagonists with stuff they learned traveling with Ash, so that way, it all comes back to Ash and his journey in a way. We just have to enjoy the last episodes of Ash's journey for now.
I personally think that this new protagonist is gonna be ash's daughter but is gonna have a different message for us than ash did. While ash's message was "no matter where you start from, you can be great too" i think riko's message will be "just because your family is great, doesn't mean that you have that same potential"
@@dragonraptor3435 well no i meant that in a way of riko trying to copy ash's battling style, but finding out it doesn't work for her, so the further we go into the series, the less riko will be like ash.
You know, a more interesting thing would be to see if Ash could canonically exist in the games since he technically has an unconfirmed cameo in the demo for Sun and Moon.
I mean, he was put into Pokémon Masters so an iteration of him must exist in the games. Different dimensions/timelines are canon in Pokémon so he could be experiencing his own adventure parallel to the player characters.
I find it funny that fans are willing to consider Latias just for giving Ash a kiss (it was even implied that it wasn't even Latias, but rather Bianca), over Ash's Bayleef, who also openly kissed Ash before in her debut episode and never stopped being way too affectionate and possessive with him.
It's not misty it's Serena liko looks like Serena and has the same eye colour as Serena the bule hair of liko is not real she just dyed it blue look at roy for example red is not an natural colour and he just coloured it so why can't liko so therefore it's Serena not misty or dwan or anyone else.
@@googleplayplaygames5749 We dont know if he is even Ash's kid yet, or atleast it's not confirmed. We can theorize, sure, but we can't just full on assume that it's fact until we had seen it with our own eyes or hear it with our own ears. The only thing we can do is wait.
I don't if anyone still read the comments after a year. I remember hearing somewhere that the original anima season was supposed to end with Misty getting pregnant with Ashes child. I can't remember where I heard that or if it is true.
I find it funny that at the end he threw his hat into both the Pokéshipping and Amourshipping rings, aka the two ships whose fandoms are probably at each other’s throats the most over this.
I think Riko is a completely new character with no blood relation to any of the existing characters. The creators won't make her Ash's daughter because of the shipping wars. They're trolling us.
I think she's not his daughter because they flatly refused to let him be older than 10 for a quarter century. No way in hell they going to imply he's 30 in their new series for kids with a 12-year-old daughter. They want Ash to be the eternal kid, not having one.
Dawn ending up with Ash makes a lot of sense considering that shes the only companion who cheered him on in person. They also always supported each other in their competitions in their season, with Ash taking inspiration from Dawn's contests for his gym battles. I like the idea that they reunite.
I'm all for Dawn being the mother, but what if the underlights are just dyed hair? Also, why is Riko not the child of Jessie and James? Jessie has Blue eyes, James green (maybe recessive blue?) James has Blue hair maybe the two finally got access to their inheritances, allowing for an expensive necklace for their daughter?
All these years that we complained about Ash being kinda incompetent for someone with over 10 years of experience definitely made it feel like we wanted a new protagonist but the moment he leaves after achieving his dreams, we want him back. I miss my boy.
As someone who grew up with Dawn she was one of the few to attend Ash's championship match and hearing that she's the highest percentage mom material makes me happy
I think that not only is it INFINITELY more likely that ROY is ash’s son, it’d also be phenomenal to see that not only can someone who’s not the child of a legend BE a legend, but also BEAT the child of a legend.
The general director of the anime kunihiko iyama already gave us a canon answer why ash doesn’t age He says “I viewed the anime as a story that captured the feel of a day of summer vacation in one’s childhood of children venturing on a trip into the unknown exploring a world without parents alongside their friends and others who they engage along the way” “In the setting of the animation the main character ash is forever ten years old and the background season is forever early summer” “Sometimes it gets cold in the mountains or it could be hot, those changes happen by traveling” “Fundamentally it is forever early summer and he is forever ten years old and on top of that a day of summer vacation repeats perpetually” “This is what I hoped to create” “ a view of the world that would be ideal for children (addlibbed by me: and young at heart)”
I salute you for being brave enough to cover this topic, MatPat. Hopefully the commenters don't get too mad at you for not choosing their respective Best Girl from Ash's many travelling companions.
FYI, the symbol featured in Riko's hairclip and Ash's hat is just the in-show symbol of the Indigo (Kanto) League, which certainly suggests that Riko and/or one or both of her parents is from Kanto, but like you said it does not serve as any concrete connection to Ash besides as a fun callback
Has no one thought that Riko isn’t going to be Ash’s child but Roy is. If the theory goes that in anime weird coloured hair is normal than Roy’s reddish hair would make sense.Ash and Roy also have similar skin tones and face shapes . This also makes me think maybe Misty is the mother and ,I’m not sure if this is correct, could their hair colours mix together for some parts- at least in anime physics, maybe.
Seems like Rika would be the actual main character and Roy being the accompanying characters to Rika. But yeah, its still possible for Roy to be a child of Ash but overall speaking feels kinda unlikely. I thought Roy might be related to Kiawe from Sun and Moon(Alola) because of his bright pink(red) hair and dark(tanned) skintone, but it could be also be anyone from Alola since dark and tanned skintone is common in that region. This would make the possibility of Lana being the mother of Rika alot higher since the 2 kids could both come from Alola and traveling together in a new region, plus Ash is the first champion in Alola, making the reason for Rika to idolise him alot higher, giving them some sort of connection that the fans would want.
The hair color's mixing is possible, or they could skip generations, and your hair color could change as you get older. My mom's hair went from bright red to brunette before she turned two, mine started doing the same in highschool, and I was born with a more blondish red than the red she had. Hair color is a bit more fluid than some other genetic traits.
If Riko did end up being Ash's daughter, I could see two scenarios: either she truly is Ash and Dawn's daughter or Ash and Serena. I feel like Dawn would make more sense in terms of all of Riko's features, I can't help but think that they'd make her Serena's daughter. Her whole arc was about her crush on Ash when they were little kids, her meeting back up with him, trying over and over to confess her feelings for him, etc. Heck, she even kisses him when they part ways, but Ash is still pretty oblivious about the whole thing. Riko's eyes and hair shape match up to Serena and the whole story up until that point that I can't help but wonder if the anime actually will go that direction. I guess we'll see though!
Dawn showed up to see Ash in person, and she's a past companion, she has been appearing more to support Ash and I feel like that is probably very sweet and potentially more points to her

Matpat: “Blue hair genes now have to exists in anime.”
Me: “Oh my god I love how she dyed her hair.”
Whenever weird anime hair colors are mentioned I think about that one Saiki k episode where he changed everyone's genes to fit in lol.

would be interesting thematically to have riko as ash’s daughter. imagine being the daughter of the world champion. the shadow you’d live in. trying to live up to your father’s name. making a name for yourself. it would be a cool thematic tie in since she is, in a meta sense, his successor.

Of course there were times where they would invite each other for help, or to stop a world ending event, you know a typical monday

It's like he's thinking, "Can't believe I'm doing this."
Honestly that's what I was thinking or riko wants to be the same and feels like she couldn't fill that role to be the best but still tries.
Here's a more interesting point. This, inherently, doesn't matter. It is a TV show about pocket monsters. No matter what way you look at it, Riko's parental figures aren't going to even remotely play an important role. Shipping for shippings sake can be kept to yourself, thank you.
I just think that it's something related to terrastalizing
Nah it’s a Tera Crystal
What about if she doesn't even want to be a trainer who battles to become a pro like ash but rather catch al the pokemon and fill the pokedex. That way she isn't just ash 2.0 and it could lead to interesting story points where ash wants her to follow in his footsteps but she has no interest in it even if she has talent.
What would be really cool is if that necklace WAS the thunderstone Ash used to have, and it somehow managed to make its way to her after Team Rocket sold it. Like an insane coincidence linking Ash to the new lead.

“In the setting of the animation the main character ash is forever ten years old and the background season is forever early summer”
“Sometimes it gets cold in the mountains or it could be hot, those changes happen by traveling”
“Fundamentally it is forever early summer and he is forever ten years old and on top of that a day of summer vacation repeats perpetually”
“This is what I hoped to create”
“ a view of the world that would be ideal for children (addlibbed by me: and young at heart)”

The hair clip is also half of the TEAM SKY LOGO!
GO TEAM SKY!!!!

I was wondering why everyone focused on the female presenting instead of the male presenting character
im pretty sure roy is a native
@@wildflowerwingz4398 I think you mean male and female, no need to overcomplicate things with made up terminology :)
Dawn showed up to see Ash in person, and she's a past companion, she has been appearing more to support Ash and I feel like that is probably very sweet and potentially more points to her
Yeah honestly I’d go with Serena.
Ash and Serena 🎉
I agree
I agree to it is proven that Ash and Serena are boyfriend and girlfriend

How could anyone forget Bayleef, the only one who actually maintained a crush on Ash to this date all the way since the early 2000s

Ash coming up with the most unorthodox and unconventional method of attack:
Kinda makes sense. Dawn is one of the few both deeply existential; and passionately fiery as Ash. A lot of others show timidity at times; etc.
I seriously think if Ash gets maried the mother would be Serena proof on the last episode of XYZ.

Didn't Dawn have another love interest tho his name was Barry think? From what I remember there wasn't really that much chemistry between them but I just think he's supposed be love interest for her
I can’t how ash got around to so many girls, AND THREE OF THEM CAME FROM THE SAME SEASON

I don't care if its not the case but I have always loved dawn as a supporting partner. Diamond and pearl was my favorite series and everyone forgets dawn or just doesn't think much of her. Plus their relationship is very comfortable and they play off each other so well IMO.
Trueee! And I love diamond and pearl
Dawn is my favorite female Pokémon character.
TRUE!! best pokemon anime ship
Dawn is hands down the best character in the entire series. Lilie and her mother I guess are seconds, but also they are nazis.
