It's like she is coming straight out of a tale of Tolkien. Wich makes perfect sense, because he had a profound knowledge of old norse language and mythology...🤘
You might be surprised by this - ua-cam.com/video/eIdbFaHx3Ic/v-deo.html Eivør - May It Be (Enya song cover, this song was from Lord of the Rings movie)
Love this! Love Eivor! I'm Icelandic and she's very known here. Sings alot of songs in Iceland, my favorite christmas song for exemple. It's always amazing to hear Faroese it's a mix of Icelandic and other nordic languages. One day at workplace i used to work there was someone from Faroe Islands and had a newspaper and left it in the coffieroom and someone was reading and like "who wrote this! doesn't anyone spellcheck anymore" :')
I'm Norwegian. And I have a very simple method of telling the difference between Faroese and Icelandic: If I can read it, it's Faroese. If I can't, it's Icelandic. ;)
Okay, so I recommended this song, but I've never heard this version, the live version, so I am very surprised! These aren't the noises I'm used to hearing in this song and I don't know which version I prefer right now, but I am very glad you finally listened to this song!
I've watched this video at least 20 times in the past and I would do it again, love this stuff. A beautiful nordic folk song, almost haunting sound that wakes the norse blood. I recommend you "Herr Mannelig" by Garmarna.
I second that, the version of Garmana is one of the most beautiful out there, although this song has literaly dozens of different versions by a ton of artists.
Wow! I’ve never heard of her. Thanks for the recommendation. This was shot very close to where I grew up, a little farther into that fjord. We used to go on mandatory school excursions up those mountains. I’m not really a fan of walking straight upwards for hours, but the view from the top.... yeah ❤️🇳🇴
Gall dang, the breath control of this woman is incredible! If I ever tried to drop the beat like that during the song and totally change the rhythm of my breathing to sing along, I'd get the hiccups or something. Beautiful song!
Falling free by Eivør is amazing and in English. Please listen to it. (Live in the old theater in Torshavn) My brain boiled over first time I saw the video. 👽 Thanks. 😊 Stay safe 🤘🇺🇸🇩🇰🤘
This was amazing. The added throat singing is awesome too. That, some of the singing, and the drum really makes me hear similarities to Indigenous music from Canada - up North there is a lot of throat singing too. Very cool.
Not sure if it's been mentioned in the comments already, but yes this was filmed in Norway. The concert took place at Stigen farm, in Aurland, along the Aurlandsfjord. The farm itself is on the Unesco World Heritage list from 2005.
Excellent! I love me some Evior. My favorite of hers is Far Away. It is a tribute to her father and being an old guy with four adult daughters it touched me. I am glad to see you have a second artist from the Faroe Islands.
I love the primal drum beats. Reminds me of the native American, Pequot Nation performance that I saw in Connecticut. I can feel it in my bones. Thank you for something new.
That style of drum, is common in traditional Native American music, and traditional Celtic music (particularly, the Irish bodhran), as well traditional Scandinavian music.
and in almost/ most ancient cultures/tribes music, either the drum or that simple strong beat was there - the heartbeat everyone can be one with :) (For example in 20th century Hungary drums and shaman drums were banned when we became an officialy christian kingdom and hence today known hungarian folk music from last couple centuries pretty much lack of drum) It really feels in our bones 🤍🖤
My favorite singer ever since I first heard her, the song was Min modir and it blew me away, couldn't find it on any album but bought Slor the same day. Only one close to the her vocal control and emotion in IMO is Diana Ankudinova. Can't understand either except when they sing in English and couldn't care less. I haven't listened to anything made in the english world for nearly 5 yrs and I ain't missing it.
You should definitely check out "Heyr himna Smiður". It´s a 800 year old Icelandic hymn written by a chieftain on his deathbed, It´s the oldest preserved nordic hymn and nobody can sing it like she can. It´s mesmerizing. The song for the hymn was written in 1938 and has been used often in funerals due to how incredibly emotional it is.
lol when you first jumped up puppy perked up like "we're doing something?!". This actually reminds me a lot of both Native American music and some of Loreena McKinnet's songs, the chanting and tribal basis, really breathtaking
I'm catching this video late. Sorry about that. Eivor is singing an old folk song about a witch casting a spell on a wizard or the other way around. Some anthropologist are trying to find common threads between the crying songs of the American Plains Indians and this style of music in the Faroe Islands (maybe thru some Inuit interaction). She has a unique quality of singing on the inhale as well as what most of us do on the exhale. Again common in Iceland, but this thread is easy to find. Some parts of the song you will see the 'hollow' of her throat disappear and she is actually singing as she inhales.
it hit your DNA because the percussion is the same as the frequency of fire's flame flickers. Which is the the same frequency as shamanistic meditation.
Eivør from the same concert in western Norway feat. the band Vamp w/their song "Tir n'a Noir" (again inspired by Irish folk): ua-cam.com/video/97HQ1U-uGaU/v-deo.html Apparently the crowd was there for a Vamp concert, explains the full band set up on stage, and they had Eivør with them to contribute on (at least) Tir n'a Noir + this solo guest performance, guess that's why the crowd looked as "spellbound" as many of us from her performance In this song Vamp sings in 🇧🇻 while Eivør sings her parts in 🇫🇴 The concert was also sent in its entirety on NRK (Norwegian public broadcaster)
Great song. Great reaction. You were truly fascinated. You might want to try reacting to this. It's kinda in the same vein as what we just enjoyed. NOTICE!! BAND-MAID FANS!! In light of Band-Maid's Budokan shoe being canceled, myself and bandmaidnation (on Instagram) are trying to put together a compilation video of fans saying thank you and showing their love and appreciation for everything they have done, especially considering this past year. Trying to have it done by February 11th in time for their online show in place of Budokan. So please send your submissions as soon as you can. Please send your videos or pictures to Instagram: bandmaidnation or myself at egospodareck. Thank you in advance!

It's no wonder you're mesmerized by this, the name of the song is literally "Spellbound". =D
Aye! And the lyrics is about magic runes (the galder) - and that you should not use them if you don't know how to / know what they do.
@@Skuggflamma no
It means Troll bound, which comes to mean enchanted.
Eivor is easily one of the most talented and original artists out there today.

I love watching people react when she starts throat singing- it’s truly something to behold.
Cinematography is stunning.
Oh hell yeah this is the kind of music from the Last Kingdom. Great show and great sound.

She said in interviews that she trained her voice in huge rocky dark caves by the ocean on the Faroe Islands when she was still a teenage girl.

I get the same with Wardruna.
