helen sjöholm, du maste finnas with english subtitles, taken from kristina fran duvemala. freaking intense singing, never thought that abba could create this kind of music
I had the good fortune to book a ticket to see Eivør support Heilung on their Australian tour this November.
They both help me strip away the layered modern stresses and find my peaceful centre, the place where my soul can relax and just be
I'll never forget what John Lunn said about her. They had invited her to London to sing for that movie. And when she started singing, how his engineer just looked at him. Eivoer said, she went pretty bananas, when she did it. Beautiful story.
She is so otherwordly and magic, i’m totally spellbound everytime i see and hear her sing 🤩
Eivør Pálsdóttir is one of those rare talents that, from time to time, appears in the world. A wonderful voice that always takes us back to her homeland, the Faroe Islands.
og Danmark er lort?
Bear McCreary hand-picking Eivør to perform the "voice" of Laufey/Faye was a stroke of musical genius. Her "Memories of Mother" is little more than her humming at one point, but it can and does evoke tears every time I hear it. Partly from it's sheer beauty, and partly because it conjures something sensitive yet primal, touching at once a mother's lullaby and something much more ethereal and ancient that I feel deep in my soul. She is to traditional Nordic music what old school Clannad and Lorena McKennitt are to traditional Celtic music.
do you know her albu "at the heart of a selkie"?
The last kingdom was a masterpiece of a series
For great present, Danish National Symphony Orchestra just recently released video of them backing up Eivør on TRØLLABUNDIN, which is absolutely epic performance.
do you know her story-album "at the heart of a selkie"? absolut epic, too. recorded with big band and huge choire
5:41 She didn't miss her drum. She hit the MIDI pad next to her for an additional sound.
I love your analysis of how she's singing, especially how she produces some of the deep-throat sounds.
I think that was a bad choice of words on my part :)
@@BethRoars Nobody's perfec
i went to Iceland from Michigan just to see her perform. well worth the trip.
That"s amazing. I have booked to see her in Manchester UK in October, I am looking forward to it.
you should check out everything Eivor has done.Absolutely amazing
So basically, Eivør Pálsdóttir, cannot be adequately described by 99% of the people who try to.
Last Kingdom is a hidden gem
i could listen to her for hours and never get bored i close my eyes drift away
Eivør's voice is truly captivating. I started listening to her solo albums last year, but haven't looked too far into her work for soundtracks. This is very intense and quite beautiful, and I absolutely love the false chord vocals that she uses on this song. It's one of my favorite techniques of hers
if you work through her records, don't miss out "at the heart of a selkie". it will give you insights to some of her wonderful songs
@soleywolfgangsdottir will do, thank you. I've mostly been listening to her recent pop albums, so far. I didn't realize until recently how many albums she actually had
@@AgainstTheeWickedlyMusic this album drags you into the folk legends of the selkie women. i have put the lyrics and the introduction into the comments here on youtube. they got mixed up, but anyways.

Hey. Just a couple of songs that could remind a bit of this from Eivør: “nú brennur tú í mær”, “min moður”, “í tokuni” and “summertime”. These songs are a bit older, but still some of my favorite from Eivør. She also just released a now song called “jardartra”, reminds me a bit more of her old style, and I love it! Hope it helps you a bit!
As a side note, the inward breath she uses in this style of singing is actually a common thing in Faroese, Iceland, and I think some dialects of Norwegian. It's used in speech for emphasis and modifying the meaning of things, by saying them on an inward breath.
She trained with a well known Inuit vocalist and then adapted into this ‘beatbox’ more structured style which is her own. That’s the route of this sound with added Faroese and Icelandic overtones . She spent five years in Iceland with a vocal coach. Why she can also do operatic , jazz , rock etc 👍🤘
Another Nordic phenomenon...lovely voice, great songwriter...really quality music. I thoroughly agree it would be wonderful to rejoin our global heritage/origins of song. Part of me appreciates growing up learning the beauty of monastic chant. Part of me realizes there's so much more out there. Nordic music...I'm learning...is so gutterally chained to their nature. Tonight we have Auld Lang Syne...Happy New Year! 🥂
Check out Trio Mandili if you have a couple of minutes. Georgian (the country) folk music. It might just put a song in your heart. Happy New Year to you too! 🥳✨🎉👍🏻💃🕺✨
@joeb4142 Hi. Just had a chance to check out...this is an amazing trio...the ladies have wonderful voices, love the panduri sound...and the songs are so interesting. Being 🇺🇸 American, I got a sense of almost Greek folk mixed with a tad Irish. Thank you do much for the reference! ✌️
Here’s something I discovered from Mongolia: ua-cam.com/video/tJqe0pO4dfQ/v-deo.htmlsi=JQW_3K1nZThCWH7u.
Just skip to 1:55 because the singer had a whole speech in the beginning.
Wow. Loved every second of it and every nano second in between. She is a musical gift.
This is the sound of the North and the great migrations following the retreat of the Ice...and in this ladies case the Wild seas and mountains 🏔️ of the coasts.
Saw her open for Heilung in Glasgow almost 12 months ago - she performed it by herself and it was sooooooo captivating and majestic - i may have taken a video of the performance ;) Love Eivør!!
Eivør has a few other live performances which shows her stunning talent, would be awesome to see Beth's analysis and reaction.
Eivør - True Love | Sofar Los Angeles
Eivør - Falling Free (Live at the Old Theater in Torshavn)
Eivør - Silvitni (LIVE)
Eivor woke the Scandinavian soul in my body and brought me to life after years of just going through the motions.
Eivor is phenomenal! You wondered if she was singing in Faroese; yes she is.
Finally someone reacted to this gem
This show is genuinely amazing
I will always thank Worakls to have made me discover this wonderful artist :)
Although I loved Bernard Cornwell's novels, reading 100 pages of his battle scenes does not have the impact on me that 10 seconds of Eivor's fierce barbaric wailing has! It shows you how ink on a page can become so much more powerful when moved into pictures and sound.
Amazing. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!
Vocalizing on an inhale is something you run into throughout Scandinavia. Norwegians routinely say "Ja" on the inhale.
This is one of these series that i revisit , mostly because of Eivor music 👌
I've seen her live supporting Heilung, and I'm going to see her live in Manchester uk on October 24
I love Eivor
You should listen to her new song "UPP ÚR ØSKUNI / RISE FROM THE ASHES"
She actually speaks while using that throat singing through much of the song. I love it! :)
It almost sounded like a fable!!:):):):) Beautifull performance!!
Beth, you are amazing
Oh and Beth! You gotta check out tuvan throat singing! Now mongolian throat sing has quite a few styles but the one your interested in is called "kargyraa" thats the one where Kai from heilung uses aloooooot. In Maidjan he uses it too. But check that out! Its not supposed to hurt and if anything, just alittle dryness. Doing kargyraa really opened up my vocal cords deeply. Once you find your "golden vibration" it feels amazing. U should feel it in the back of your skull then it vibrates the whole body. Its awsome!
My recommendations:
The Hu: black thunder (original version)
Heilung: Alfadhirhaiti live lifa
Eivør: Min moðir (i really think u will like this one) (live or regular version)
Faun: Galdra
Eivør: Nú brennur tú í mær (live version)
One of the best shows ever!!!! 💜
This is very primal, visceral, stuff. So emotional and evocative.
I like your enthusiasm. I also believe in listening to our ancestors
The sound of language is always under-rated imho. Love all the older style native singing, chants, and music. The HU, and all manner of others ;)
Some of her singing reminds me of sounds in the movie "Akira". I'll have to watch it again now😊
She sings Faroese/Føroyskt in the video. You should do a interview with her
I love the more gentle version of this, live with the composer of the music, which I think was also used in the series whereas this is the dramatic theme tune
You should check Eivor's sister, Elinborg Palsdottir. She's a bit younger and more mainstream, but well worth a listen.
...and also heiðrik á heygum. he is not only a video director, but also an excellent musician!
@eivor IS the Viking Queen! Five seasons on Netflix and the final movie Seven Kings Must Die. Huge hit for Netflix. She also on the shore for God Of War Sony PlayStation 🤘. But she is a realm multi album world touring artist in her own right!👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
I like the tribal drum. This song has such an ancient sound.
You need to check out Eivor's Falling Free. Her range encompasses far more than tribal folk singing
Mila Mar-LOU, live at Erbenfestspiele, Bayreuth 2021

I love your reaction videos
Yes, this is Faroese in a northern islands accent. :)
I think she’s performing next year at the Royal Albert Hall with VV. I really want to go but I know it’s gonna be sold out ha ha
Have you done any melissa etheridge? She is one of my favorites
I have indeed: ua-cam.com/video/EnM8Vp5nqZQ/v-deo.html
@@BethRoars Not sure if its worth doing a video about but you should listen to Trio Mandili singing Psalm 50
Eivør ❤
осталось не много, но смотрел бы на тебя оставшее время!!!
I think you should check out "Look My Way - Helluva Boss", I think it is a phenomenal song so full of emotion and the singer has such a great control and strength to his voice.
Is that a Faroese version of the bodhrán ? It doesn't look like a traditional bodhrán but close.
EIVØR was in the last Wacken Open Air ☝️
Just got done listening to Iron Maiden. How cool would it be for Eivor and Maiden do a jam together?😎🎸🎸🎸.
I can hear similarities in this with Zimmer’s Dune
Hi Beth, can you take a look at "The Red Clay Strays | "Sunshine" | Western AF" great newcomer band from alabama
Reminds me a little of Dolores O'Riordan
React to eivor into the mist!!
Ah 🎉
I would like to see your reaction on Percival - Sword of destiny | The Witcher 3 Game ❤❤❤
I thought this would be the guy that works for Rhett and Link
Happy New Year to you Beth, I hope it brings everything you wish for yourself. I would love it if you could react to another George Michael track sometime soon please? I would like to hear your thoughts of his live version of the Elton John/ Bernie Taupin song ‘Tonight’ from the 1991 Rock In Rio concert. Thank you 🎉❤x
Mabel Matiz - Düldül feat. Melike Şahin (Harbiye Açıkhava Live 2023), Turkish music reaction please..❤❤❤❤
@Beth Roars Can you please react to Kalandra - With You (unplugged) the song is awesome, think you would love it from a fellow Scot 🏴

Neri Per Caso - What A Fool Believes ua-cam.com/video/2EXyPrRvbos/v-deo.html Cheers!
😂😂😂
Joik
when I listen to something like that and after that to some "normal" (pop) music, I feel so bored and disappointed.
