This arc, this season, and the story beyond, likely began my journey for Hinata becoming my favorite sports anime/manga protagonist. He’s possibly even my favorite shonen protagonist. He taught me that having such a burning passion, the right amount of selfishness, and the right amount of work ethic can create something you’ll be proud of. Love this dude and his journey. Everyone should find something they love as much as Hinata loves volleyball and being a competitor
I get that people get second hand embarrassment from a lot of stuff that Hinata does, especially in this episode but man, I WISH I had the confidence he does. He believes in himself so much, and while he doesn’t have the technical skill yet, he has the confidence and drive to get there.
I can relate to Hinata sooo much in this! Me and my bestfriend used to play Taekwondo together. We do everything together, we leveled up our belts together, joined all competitions local and regional together, even won the same medals every competition but one summer, she was the only one invited to train and be part of our country's national team. I cried for daaaaayss. 😭 But eventually, I realized that she actually is the better one (more athletic, too) and that she deserves the recognition. 😊 but it took me a few weeks, though. 😅
You're entering one of the best training arcs in existence, I absolutely cannot wait to see your perspective on it! The change of art style here is fitting in my opinion, because this feels like the point where Haikyuu starts getting exponentially more mature as a story. There are no real-life people in Haikyuu if memory serves - some characters have irl models, but that's about it. Furudate (the author) themselves said that there's usually no one "model" for a character, it's more of an amalgamation of traits they see in different people. That being said, they did get a permission to enter the Ajinomoto training center and do research there for this arc specifically! Furudate takes research very seriously, and I'm sure some interviews took place there, too. At the very end of the story, Furudate thanked Masashi Nanbu, the current manager of Panasonic Panthers and a former youth team coach. Looks like Furudate interviewed them right around the end of the Shiratorizawa match, which they were ecstatic about. Kanji are characters that came from China, and there can be multiple ways of reading it; when you're starting out, you need furigana to read it, which is pretty much spelling kanji out.
It genuinely is the best training arc in anime, there's just no comparison. Also starts paving the way for some REAL sports philosophy; Haikyuu's always had a lot of depth, but Furudate goes from sports theorist to lifestyle coach with incredible finnese moving forward. I regularly re-read Haikyuu from this point onwards, because there's so much good life advice in every chapter.
Glad to see you were not immune to the gigantic second-hand embarrassment that scene means for the whole fandom 😂 it will remain forever iconic but not in a very good way hahaha I still can't see it without making weird faces And yes! Kiyoomi my dear! I'm super biased towards him (my forever profile pic) he is one of the new characters that will remain relevant for the rest of the story, so yeah, keep your eyes on him Hinata and Washijo relationship is just sooo interesting! It keeps developing from here, the man has a weird soft spot for Hinata hahha It's indeed bittersweet you have come this far; I cannot wait for you to finish this season and maybe read what it's still pending in the manga so we can hear your thoughts about everything Haikyuu has to offer, but at the same time I don't want this to end, re-watching haikyuu with your insight has been so entertaining 🥲
@@SarahPavanVolleyball Yes that's him! Sakusa Kiyoomi. Kuroo mentioned him awhile back in Season 2 in the training camp barbeque, when he listed the top 3 high school spikers in Japan.
Oh man, seeing your reaction made me remember how embarrassed I was on my first watch! 🤣 Yeah, this episode is definitely hard to watch. Even after 5+ times through the series the second-hand embarrassment is always there.
The way that Hinata matures in this arc is really heartwarming. He learns so much as a ball boy. It makes me excited for the movies later this year (hopefully) all over again.
In case you missed it, remember the 2 other silhouettes behind Ushijima when they showed the top 3 spikers in Japan high school volleyball back on season 2? That permed guy Sakusa is one of them.
it's time!!!!! not the end of Haikyuu luckily, there will be two more movies made covering the rest of the manga! we'll see how that works out, there's a lot to cover. every time hinata says 'what about me?' i just want to curl up and die, tuski coming in with the 'bless your heart' tone too hinata totally ready to commit crimes to ball, that's my boy i love that the other players want Hinata there, so much respect for him even though he's lacking in so many places! I’ve been binge watching your reactions the last couple weeks and I can’t believe I’m already caught up to present time. It’s wild to me that someone so talented and accomplished as yourself has been dedicated to this anime and the fandom it has, and I hope you know how much we appreciate you. 🖤 I’ve re watched Haikyu so many times and I’ve watched a few reaction videos of it too but I truly love your reactions in every aspect. Weather it’s the technical aspect, relating/critiquing characters, or even commenting on the over all story line and imagery in the anime itself. Season 4 is my personal favorite out of all the seasons. For me it’s one that evokes such strong hard hitting emotions again and again and I can’t wait to see and hear your perspective on it all. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us these reactions and I eagerly await your next video whenever it comes. 🖤🖤
If you'll notice when Tsukishima calls Hinata an idiot, he uses the standard "baka" instead of "boke" because that version of "idiot" is kinda Kageyama's catchphrase and associated with Kageyama so even in that instance he can't let Kageyama win. He is that petty.
This episode was difficult for me to watch as well and I LOVE that you could see things happening from a mile away 🤣🤣 As for Washijo sensei, I don't like to speculate people's intention because I find it impossible to know what someone truly thinks or feels, but the fact that he allows Hinata to stay (despite Hinata having proven him wrong before) at least implies that he's not afraid to be proven wrong again. It may not be a good opportunity that he's giving Hinata, but he's also not completely shutting Hinata out because of petty personal feelings either. I can respect that.
It is tough to memorize all kanji since there are more than 2,000 letters for daily use (I know one kanji which has 100 ways of pronunciations). Additionally it's sometimes so difficult to guess how to pronounce geographical names since there are no definite rules on their pronunciations. Also, poor Kageyama, a young country boy, was in the biggest station of the country😅
Regarding your questions about Kageyama getting lost: Japanese has different classes of characters. Takeda sensei wrote the instructions in full Japanese Kanji. But considering there are thousands of Kanji characters, it's often written with small "helper" characters above the more rare ones. These are called furigana. Takeda didn't include these because he assumed Kageyama would be familiar with the kanji he used. But, as we know, Kageyama is not the best student lol, so he gets lost as he can't read the instructions properly.
Sarah dying from second hand embarrassment when Hinata just showed up at the training camp is so relatable tho TwT, the first time I saw this, I cringed very hard too haha, I was also feeling so bad for Tsukki too XD I really love the ball boy arc for Hinata tho, so I'm really looking forward to your next reactions!!
I am so pumped for the next half-year of my life these videos, this was amazing! SPOILERS I GUESS (ANIME ONLY): I'm sure others have commented but this is definitely not the final season of Haikyuu. Can explain further but what has been aired is not the final :)
I think she meant "final" as in, the last season that is currently out. She is probably correct though, considering they're not making a 5th season and are doing two movies instead.
I love that even though it's not what he wants, he accepts to stay as a ball boy! If it's hard for us to not see him playing or practicing, one can only imagine how Hinata feels when he's taken away volleyball. Still, probably my favorite season in the anime!
Not sure if someone else has explained this yet, but Japanese has several writing systems, one of which is kanji as you mentioned. The main difficulty with this one is that there are several ways to read the characters, especially when it comes to place names as Kageyama is dealing with. That is why they mentioned furigana, which is used to write down how to read the kanji and would have been helpful to him
Season 4 may not be as good as the animation from previous seasons but it's still my favourite season because of the arcs the characters go through and the story of this season.
The beginning to this arc gives me the feeling that Washijo-sensei will end up being just as important a part of Hinata's life as Kageyama, albeit a much more indirect one.
20:48 haha I had the same reaction! I paused it and literally left it at that exact spot for I think a couple of weeks when that episode first came out. I just couldn’t handle the second hand embarrassment, made me scream and cringe internally so much 😂 but then I built up the courage again to watch it and it’s def one of my favorite arcs in the entire series! Trust me, I think you’ll love it a lot! Especially since you tend to dive really deep into things :)
On my latest watch, I noticed that Hinata would have left, but Washijo-sensei came up with the idea to let Hinata be a ballboy - he took the phone without prelude, and he let him learn. Washijo-sensei knew his receives were poor, and he surely read the book Daichi read about reading receives as a ballboy. He also knows the hunger Hinata has for the game as a fellow short player. Hinata also thrives on the challenge of proving others wrong about him being nothing without Kageyama, or nothing without height. This lit a new fire in him. He may not be a kind mentor for him, but he was the mentor he needed then, and later (for manga readers) he has truly supported Hinata's growth. He provided him the situation and environment that Hinata could then grow in. Love your reactions btw, can't wait to see your reaction next time around.
I caught up! I discovered your reactions a week or two ago and JUST finished s3e10 and I knew you hadn't started s4 yet, so this was such a great surprise 😁
Imma come out and just say- I’d love to watch you react to other anime. Actually a specific few anime that would help scratch the Haikyuu itch. Actually just this one show about a medieval Japanese card game. It’s called Chihayafuru, and I’ve been hoping that there’d be someone who’d appreciated the sports aspects of Haikyuu to also share their experience with it. I don’t want to take away anything by describing what it’s about, but it’s author clearly understands the struggles and joys of living an athlete. If you’re up for trying something unexpected with the channel after Haikyuu, please give it a chance.
Yes!! Chihayafuru is always what I want to rec to people if they like Haikyuu. Not quite the “traditional sports anime” people expect, but very similar feelings in terms of the excitement of competition, satisfying character progression, and life lessons - plus, multiple female main characters! I love seeing the girls also competing! It’s not often thought of by people when looking for more sports anime recs after Haikyuu, but I think Chihayafuru is on a much more similar vibe to Haikyuu than other sports anime - while still having its own unique identity.
26:19 Not the fact that Hinata had the profile and right to be there, he actually was getting invited. But coach is bias and didn't let him. My hearts hurts for Hinata in that moment Ofc he shouldn't have done that, but after that sentence I can't blame him. Also knowing that he is going to learn from the little things they allow him to do.
Let's gooooo! I didn't think they could top Season 3, but Season 4 has so many of my favorite moments, and I know Sarah will pick up on all the through lines they've built.
S4 is my favorite season of Haikyuu, so I'm so happy you've arrived here. The second hand embarrassment is so real; I couldn't believe Hinata did that the first time I watched it and could only imagine if he'd snuck into a camp when I was in high school. (He'd probably be chucked out the door.) Curly-haired Sakusa deserves all the appreciation and the love. I have such a passion for this arc because it aired during a tough patch in my life and it taught me many things, so I'm excited to share that journey again. 😊
Sakusa, my love! We saw his back at the end of the Ova, his team won first place in Tokyo, defeating Fukurodani (2nd place). You'll love this season, it's the Best in my opinion. Hoping to see more reactions! 🥰
@27:20 When I originally saw this, I thought the same as you..... Now I'm wondering if it was a subtle hint from the coach that he needs to improve all the other aspects in his game to reach new heights in the sport.
I've also read a theory somewhere that upon selection of the invited participants, one thing that they must've looked for first is school records, and Noya was suspended before, it must've affected that too.
Alright, bit of a translation flub in this episode (annoyingly common for this show): Sakusa isn't the only second-year at the camp, but the only second-year among the Top 3 spikers.
The fun starts from EP3 but EP2 is very important to understand it. You will love it. Can't wait for next reaction as always. This arc is the best one so far.
I can't believe it. It feels like it was just last week when you started the season 1! I love your journey through my most favorite serie. I'm happy we can join you and be part of it too! I'm sure you're going to love the final season, it tastes even better when you go back to the point from where those guys started. It hits me every time! About Hinata...tbh at this point I'm not even sure what's more ballsy, sneaking in uninvited or actually hiding the pride and staying outside of the actual practice 😂
About the Japan men's teams' head coach and his speech, Coach Hibarida is not actually a real-life figure. As far as I remember, there's only 2 irl vb figures who get name-dropped in all of Haikyuu (1st as you may remember is Arie Selinger by Ukai Sr. in season 3, and you'll see the 2nd one later in this season) Back to the topic of Coach Hibarida's speech, I think it's simply a message that the manga author wants to spread esp to new fans or non-fans of the sport who don't see its complexities yet. After all, at first look, one would definitely think there's no way Shiratorizawa could be defeated, but vb is not all about height and power, hence the long and epic battle that is all of season 3😁
Bro am i the only one who died ressurected and died again from laughter and choking when she said maybe the shiratorizawa coach had a soft spot for hinata my mind was like "Hunh if only you knew hehehehehehe if only you really knew what this boys about to experience....."

But eventually, I realized that she actually is the better one (more athletic, too) and that she deserves the recognition.
These were all very helpful tidbits. Thank you!!
Wowwwww that is a bold statement about the best training arc in existence. I'm very excited!!
SO GOOD YES. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
This is the season that made me like Hinata
"in existence"… lol, that’s a monumental stretch, that said, it’s still pretty good
this is also my favorite season of Haikyuu
Washijo is a harsh coach but his assessment is truly valid. He’s still a seasoned coach and all we have to do is trust his process. 😊
Love that you're back for S4, loving the critiques and evaluations of not just the game but the characters 😄
Their hairstyles are very important to discuss haha
1.) Love how you predicted Hinata's meltdown before seeing it.
2.) Never thought I'd even up missing the "cryptkeeper" nickname. It's quite endearing.
😂 😂 😂
Glad to see you were not immune to the gigantic second-hand embarrassment that scene means for the whole fandom 😂 it will remain forever iconic but not in a very good way hahaha I still can't see it without making weird faces
And yes! Kiyoomi my dear! I'm super biased towards him (my forever profile pic) he is one of the new characters that will remain relevant for the rest of the story, so yeah, keep your eyes on him
Hinata and Washijo relationship is just sooo interesting! It keeps developing from here, the man has a weird soft spot for Hinata hahha
It's indeed bittersweet you have come this far; I cannot wait for you to finish this season and maybe read what it's still pending in the manga so we can hear your thoughts about everything Haikyuu has to offer, but at the same time I don't want this to end, re-watching haikyuu with your insight has been so entertaining 🥲
maybe you should delete everything written in ( ) in the last paragraph. It's spoilers at this moment in my opinion, but it's upto you.
@@girish2754 not sure if it counts as spoilers either but just in case! 🤭
Is Kiyoomi the curly-haired guy?? I'm very intrigued by him.....
@@SarahPavanVolleyball Yes that's him! Sakusa Kiyoomi. Kuroo mentioned him awhile back in Season 2 in the training camp barbeque, when he listed the top 3 high school spikers in Japan.
4:54 daichi with sulking face is so cute lmao
Oh man, seeing your reaction made me remember how embarrassed I was on my first watch! 🤣 Yeah, this episode is definitely hard to watch. Even after 5+ times through the series the second-hand embarrassment is always there.
Like WHYYYYYYY?!?! I knew he would be upset, but to actually act on it.... my hands are sweating thinking about it.
The way that Hinata matures in this arc is really heartwarming. He learns so much as a ball boy. It makes me excited for the movies later this year (hopefully) all over again.
Best training arc, and BEST CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT FOR HINATA 🤭🤭🤭 it’s so worth it, we promise!!!
In case you missed it, remember the 2 other silhouettes behind Ushijima when they showed the top 3 spikers in Japan high school volleyball back on season 2? That permed guy Sakusa is one of them.
season 4 is my favorite ahhhh i’m so excited for you to watch the ball boy arc 💗
I'm cringing so hard.
both Nekomata-sensei and Washijou-sensei are WISE. and not at an ordinary level. they KNOW what they doing. don't forget that.
🇧🇷♥️
it's time!!!!!
not the end of Haikyuu luckily, there will be two more movies made covering the rest of the manga! we'll see how that works out, there's a lot to cover.
every time hinata says 'what about me?' i just want to curl up and die, tuski coming in with the 'bless your heart' tone too
hinata totally ready to commit crimes to ball, that's my boy
i love that the other players want Hinata there, so much respect for him even though he's lacking in so many places!
Takeda is the kind of person that if they are disappointed in you, it's worse than getting yelled at by anyone else, imo
isn't information about what's going to happen with the series after season 4, spoilery. I saw another comment mention it too, why are we revealing it now? wouldn't it be better to see her reaction to the news later towards the end of the season - these are just my thoughts that popped up in mind after reading the comment
@@girish2754 it's a good question, but I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned to Sarah in the livestreams what's happening with the production of the remaining story (i.e. there are going to be two movies), but definitely not the content! I would never want to spoil that!
@@SpitballIdea oh, i know you wouldn't spoil it. I was just confused why people are mentioning about what comes after season 4 now, if Sarah already knows about it, then it's fine, my bad
@@girish2754 no worries, good looking out for the love house!
BUT IT'S SO HARD TO WATCH!!!
It makes me smile that the other guys (other than Tsukki) aren't fazed by Hinata being there, but the whole way he went about it is just sooooooo embarrassing. I 100% agree on the Takeda comment too.
I'm sure it was on the tip of his tongue already but he caught himself 😂
This episode was difficult for me to watch as well and I LOVE that you could see things happening from a mile away 🤣🤣
As for Washijo sensei, I don't like to speculate people's intention because I find it impossible to know what someone truly thinks or feels, but the fact that he allows Hinata to stay (despite Hinata having proven him wrong before) at least implies that he's not afraid to be proven wrong again. It may not be a good opportunity that he's giving Hinata, but he's also not completely shutting Hinata out because of petty personal feelings either. I can respect that.
I loved that you instantly caught up on Hinata' sneaking to the camp before they showed it 🤣
私はあなたの言葉はわからないが、シーズン1からここまで見てしまった😆あなたのリアクションは最高だ!👏👏
I really hope you enjoy season 4, it's my favorite season out of them all! I'm excited that it's finally time to watch it again alongside you
It is tough to memorize all kanji since there are more than 2,000 letters for daily use (I know one kanji which has 100 ways of pronunciations).
We're finally here people, and I'm gonna enjoy this like you have no idea, definitely the best season
This episode is the pinnacle of season 4. I'm so excited to watch this whole season with Sarah.
I love Sakusa, he's awesome. Can't wait for you to meet the new characters. Also everyone's reacton to Hinata being there is just hilarious
Sarah dying from second hand embarrassment when Hinata just showed up at the training camp is so relatable tho TwT, the first time I saw this, I cringed very hard too haha, I was also feeling so bad for Tsukki too XD
I really love the ball boy arc for Hinata tho, so I'm really looking forward to your next reactions!!
I am so pumped for the next half-year of my life these videos, this was amazing!
SPOILERS I GUESS (ANIME ONLY):
I'm sure others have commented but this is definitely not the final season of Haikyuu. Can explain further but what has been aired is not the final :)
Get ready! I'm making this last until June 😂 😂
I think she meant "final" as in, the last season that is currently out. She is probably correct though, considering they're not making a 5th season and are doing two movies instead.
This arc is full of pain, but it is so worth it!
Just a quick correction, at the jump measurement tsukki landed a 334 cm and hinata a 333 cm so technically tsukki jumped higher :))
That is why they mentioned furigana, which is used to write down how to read the kanji and would have been helpful to him
Thanks! Glad we’re back for season 4!
Me too! Thanks so much!
Season 4 may not be as good as the animation from previous seasons but it's still my favourite season because of the arcs the characters go through and the story of this season.
the assistant coach needing to stifle a laugh in the final scene always cracks me up
The beginning to this arc gives me the feeling that Washijo-sensei will end up being just as important a part of Hinata's life as Kageyama, albeit a much more indirect one.
ずっと待ってましたぁ!
I've been waiting for this video for a long time!
For me washijo is the best old man ,love him
Estou muito feliz acompanhando suas reações e comentários sobre o anime. Sucesso, Sarah ❤
I love your deep knowledge and memorization of haikyu environment its past events, its players and coach etc. Love the reactions.
LOVE this season!!! Can't wait for Sarah's comments to this one
So excited for this arc! The ball boy arc became a favorite of mine on my rewatches. ❤
I watched all of your reactions. I feel like I'm watching haikyuu again with someone. Love all of your reactions.
ジャンプ力測定の時にハッ!!ってなるのめっちゃ可愛い昔やったんだろなぁってなった
She has a second channel called SarahPavanAnime, or something like that and there she is reacting to the run with the wind anime.
@@megamert2848 how did I not know of this
26:19 Not the fact that Hinata had the profile and right to be there, he actually was getting invited. But coach is bias and didn't let him. My hearts hurts for Hinata in that moment
Ofc he shouldn't have done that, but after that sentence I can't blame him. Also knowing that he is going to learn from the little things they allow him to do.
Thank you for the reaction Sarah, u just made my day a little better 🥺🧡
I finally caught up to your reaction but I can't see ep 2 of season 4 😭😭 I loved & enjoyed your reaction to the whole seasons really
If the "pixie/elf" and Sarah ever met, they would be natural enemies. LOL
Another revolutionary period for the characters as well as Karasuno🎉
Tysm for this and I'm thrilled to binge all your reactions throughout season 4!! I can't wait! 🫶
Let's gooooo! I didn't think they could top Season 3, but Season 4 has so many of my favorite moments, and I know Sarah will pick up on all the through lines they've built.
The moment I saw this upload I immedietly got hyped!
i've been waiting for this forever, so excited to see it
I've been waiting! I would love to see Season4 soon.
S4 is my favorite season of Haikyuu, so I'm so happy you've arrived here. The second hand embarrassment is so real; I couldn't believe Hinata did that the first time I watched it and could only imagine if he'd snuck into a camp when I was in high school. (He'd probably be chucked out the door.)
Curly-haired Sakusa deserves all the appreciation and the love.
OMGGG THANK U FOR UR REACTION TO THIS NEW HAIKYUU SEASONN!
@27:20 When I originally saw this, I thought the same as you..... Now I'm wondering if it was a subtle hint from the coach that he needs to improve all the other aspects in his game to reach new heights in the sport.
Yeeeeeeeees I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ❤ Don’t worry, we’re still waiting for the two movies coming out 😊
The Editor is doing so wonderfully with the comedy edits!
Don't worry kind maam, season 5 is definitely on the way. We're going to wait for it no matter how long it takes!!
I've also read a theory somewhere that upon selection of the invited participants, one thing that they must've looked for first is school records, and Noya was suspended before, it must've affected that too.
i love your thought process, u take attention in details :D
Alright, bit of a translation flub in this episode (annoyingly common for this show): Sakusa isn't the only second-year at the camp, but the only second-year among the Top 3 spikers.
Yes, that's good to note.
The fact that we’re ALL more embarrassed than Hinayana actually is 😭😭😭 he’s got the confidence of lion but the brains of a worm fr 💀
OMG Sarah!!! You're going to die in this season!!! So many feels!!
I was really excited for this!
This is one of my favourite arcs in Haikyuu! So excited
YAYYYY FINALLY! Thanks for the reaction, goddess
About the Japan men's teams' head coach and his speech, Coach Hibarida is not actually a real-life figure. As far as I remember, there's only 2 irl vb figures who get name-dropped in all of Haikyuu (1st as you may remember is Arie Selinger by Ukai Sr. in season 3, and you'll see the 2nd one later in this season)
Back to the topic of Coach Hibarida's speech, I think it's simply a message that the manga author wants to spread esp to new fans or non-fans of the sport who don't see its complexities yet. After all, at first look, one would definitely think there's no way Shiratorizawa could be defeated, but vb is not all about height and power, hence the long and epic battle that is all of season 3😁
Finally. The best anime watching again with reactors. Love haikyuu
this is the first time i've been so early on one sarah's uploads
I’m so excited that you finally get to meet Atsumu he’s my favorite character ❤
Glad you're back Sarah.
I'm not even through the introduction but the thumbnail is perfectly fitting what I'm about to see and I know it.
Yes she's back
i laughed so hard when i saw the thumbnail for this one 'cause it was too relatable 😅
Bro am i the only one who died ressurected and died again from laughter and choking when she said maybe the shiratorizawa coach had a soft spot for hinata my mind was like "Hunh if only you knew hehehehehehe if only you really knew what this boys about to experience....."
20:07 I love how you immediately knew what was coming lmaooooo
this season is my fav so many good games
The writing this episode is soooo good. I can't wait for you to meet some of the new characters this season. I have a feeling which one you will LOVE.
