It was abundantly clear during Cheatle's testimony that she was either lying and simply refusing to offer any meaningful answers, or her incompetence is so profound that she was entirely oblivious to what had taken place. She didn't have the faintest clue who was supposed to be responsible for anything. She should have been fired and criminally prosecuted.

The main issue os not the failure islef. It's her incapability to do SOMETHING about it. She made no changes, failed to speak to key agents and witnesses, had no answers whatsoever, didn't even visit the site afterwards. She said she made "some changes" but failed to explain what changes. If people had seen she is diligent would be more forgiving. People saw her PASSIVITY, she seems to expect the issue to be solved by everyone else but her. This is not what a LEADER does.
If you look at her Wiki page, there are some red flags. She was working for the secret service from 1995 as a security agent, but in 2017 she jumped up to management positions but it looks like she jumped to 3 different management positions in 2 years in the SS before jumping to Pepsi for about 2 years then jumping back to the SS. if you are staying in a position for only a year or less, this means that you are either passed around "to be someone elses problem" or the employee realizes their incompetence and jumps around before their incompetence if found out. I've been in business, and I've seen it before.

As one who has been responsible for other workers actions I can tell you this. You can delegate duties and tasks. You cannot delegate responsibility.
Cheatle allowed insufficient staffing, failed to review their security plan, evaded answering questions, and gave dumb answers to easy questions. Those are the hallmarks of incompetent management.
She had NO ANSWERS after 9 frikken days, THATS why she was forced out. She's either a liar or incompetent, or more likely BOTH!
One thing was for sure, she was NEVER going to resign. And then, she resigned. 🥴

20 years ago I worked at the US Embassy in Tokyo contracted under PAE.
When Dick Cheney was to come to Tokyo in 2003 for meetings in the US Embassy, it was his Secret Service Advance Team whom I was tasked with escorting through site preparation as an Embassy contracted employee. This involved going over every single potential breach of security location that could be identified, and securing it. This is always done and maintained prior to the event and fully secured throughout.
In these past 20 years, it seems incredible to me looking at the complete incompetence of the current Secret Service, if what happened to Donald Trump wasn't an actual planned assassination attempt from within, that is.
I do security & Im a Army veteran. 4yr MP. 1990s. In 2023, I had a DHS, FEMA post. We had a critical incident with multiple suspects. 📂 1 was arrested state charges, felony. Did DHS or FPS federal protective service help or show any concern? No. Did the FBI or Secret Service help the federal employees? Security staff? Nope! 0. Did they protect & secure the FEMA SBA application data? Nope! Zip....
I'm getting the impression that some of the personnel just didn't care about the person they were guarding, or didn't care enough to endure the extreme heat of that day, combined with the secret service not having enough personnel for the rally. Like they chose to put their personnel elsewhere. But I don't have your professional experience.

If she had been fired immediately after the event, I would be more in agreement with the analysis about it being unproductive. However, it happened more than a week later, with ample opportunity for her to: answer questions, explain exactly what the failures were and assure us that this won't happen again. But she failed miserably on all counts. *That* is why she was forced to resign - it sends the proper message to future directors.

Her refusal to answer simple questions and not being prepared for requests for a simple SS schedule and for a president almost being assassinated under her watch is what should've gotten her fired.

I think one of the reasons they wanted her to resign is because a majority of officials felt she should have immediately gone to the site to investigate the situation and get as much first hand information as possible. Also, as the head of the Secret Service she should have had a press conference fairly quickly to explain to the public what was happening regarding the incident. Apparently she also didn’t inform officials in the White House or congress regarding the incident. In fact she stonewalled and ignored senators questions regarding the incident. This all shows a lack of leadership, a lack of transparency and a lack of accountability. In my opinion her actions make it appear she is covering something up. What she may be covering up I don’t know but her defiance has been a pattern of repeated behavior from many other leaders of government agencies under the Biden administration; such as the FBI, Homeland Security, ATF and others who refuse to answer simple questions during congressional investigations. I’ve watched plenty of these investigations online in the last several years where these leaders circle around the questions, deflect and in the end they take zero accountability for any failures.
I worked in a state bureaucracy for 25 years. The mission statement of the organization is one thing. The real goal is to deflect blame for any failures and to perpetuate themselves in power.
It actually demonstrates dishonesty and malevolence. That's not a personal opinion --- that's reality.
I think she was correct in resigning. She had zero answers and made no effort to see what went wrong. She couldn't even say who if anyone was in charge of the site.
Cheadle's entire hearing was defined by an attempt to protect her job and cover up any wrongdoing in the SS.

I noticed that question about talking to anyone on an encrypted app at the White House. She denied. Something tells me she did, they know it, and they're letting her off the hook on a perjury charge if she just resigns.
l cannot see why Madame Director failed to see why she HAD to resign. Her job was to protect her client which she failed to do. Any private business, if you fail to do your job, you are fired. Madame Director did not visit the site, which is tantamount to not realize the seriousness of the situation -- it is required to fully understand even what you are talking about (think of her comments on the roof pitch). l think she had to resign, but should have done so before the political heat was too great.

Then you should also know police look after their own. Its the same concept in the secret service. McNulty didn't get snitched on when he made a false serial killer by bunk. As a former US Naval Officer and graduate of the Naval Academy* I believe the Captain is responsible for the ship. That means making sure people are trained and execute the mission required. When they fail due to training or incompetence and not some unpredictable cause, it is the captain’s ultimate responsibility.
If not his/her responsibility then why are they in charge and in charge of what? What are they being paid for?
The government is nearly filled with people who are not held accountable for their actions or the failure of their teams. For the real leaders among them, this is poison to their souls. Btw-This is also common in business.
The more people are held accountable, I.e. fired, jailed, fined as appropriate, when they fail, the better the ships and companies are run.
Dr. Grande you are in my opinion, wrong to think she should not have been fired. It sends a very clear message and a message that should be sent. As for the DEI issue, these agents should be fit, nimble and physically imposing enough to block the bad guys from the target. That is the mission. Three of these agents in the video do not meet those requirements regardless of gender.

A reasonable observation in a sea of discrimination.
There are definitely issues with DEI, but many comments here are telling on themselves. Instead of focusing on incompetence or lack of training, the focus is on gender or color. The sad irony is people like this are the reason DEI programs are necessary. Even if she were qualified, these people would still call her a DEI hire and blame her incompetence on being a woman, and not her failure at the job she was hired to do. They've weaponized the term "DEI hire" to be discriminatory, instead of focusing on the issues with DEI itself.
The best candidates should be hired to fill positions, regardless of gender or color or disability. And in 2024, it should not be difficult for an employer to hire qualified employees from a wide range of diversity. But employers shouldn't feel pressured to fill spots with unqualified people just to avoid censure. Yet, if you look at the comments, it's obvious DEI is still necessary because people are still equating failure with gender/color instead of incompetence.

Replying to Dr. Grande; why she had to resign before all the facts are known was her demeanor, failure to prepare for her hearing ( didnt know by heart or even have a printed timeline in her possession ) and astoundingly absurd responses to basic questions.
It really makes me wonder if she was set up to take the fall for this failure. I find it hard to believe someone in her position wouldn't know that the congressional hearing(s) would be one of the most important things she ever did in her career and demanded a lot of preparation. To be clear, I am not suggesting there was a conspiracy behind the assassination attempt but rather that Cheatle was hung out to dry by those working for her.

Well, the officers were in a room on the 2nd floor that had a perfect view of that roof through and open window. Problem is they left that window and room to go look for the suspicious guy leaving no one was monitoring the roof.

Honestly, how on earth was this woman even remotely qualified for such a position of enormous responsibility? I'd assumed she had 'been with' Biden for years, proven herself above & beyond and endeared herself to the First Lady - when I watched her obfuscating, tap-dancing, stonewalling and flat-out lying to Congress, I assumed those were the talents that got her hired. Thus, as head of the Secret Service, she believed it her mission to keep what she knew secret. The roof pitch was the beginning of her demise, if she had claimed it too risky on account of the heat, people may have been more sympathetic - insert your own joke here!
Aside from their inability to holster their weapon, being more concerned with their sunglasses and cowering behind the protectee, the women "guarding" the President were TOO SHORT to properly cover a large man like DJT....In this case, the DEI hires failed.

Congress wanted Cheatle to step down because she refused to answer basic questions that were easily obtainable. In fact, earlier that morning Congress received most of these answers from local police in Butler, Penn. So the questions were more of an honesty test. Instead of showing Congress that she was a strong leader able to help navigate this country through a serious crisis, instead she decided to play along with the FBI and their political shell game. This only makes the problem worse.
I recently retired from a company whose CEO was amazing (for many reasons). He trusted his managers to interview prospective candidates for their departments, but insisted on 'meeting' with the 'finalist' prior to their official hiring. This CEO had an uncanny knack for discerning, not only professionally qualified individuals, but those that would best 'fit in' with our corporate culture.
He even marveled (as did we all) how diverse (by natural selection) our workforce was. This is a small company (grew from 20 to 30 employees while I was there); yet virtually every age, many races, gender, etc. was represented. This company is very successful, thriving and growing; shows what can be accomplished when the best qualified applicant is hired.
The problem is CEOs like this can thrive in small organizations, but larger ones like the government rely on middle managers to handle all but the most important and impactful ones.
When it's done by choice and qualification yeah it will work but when it's done because you have to it usually never does work

Your math doesn't add up thanks to demographics. Diversity of opinion is one thing but race? Nope, demographic data will almost always follow the majority race unless there are selective hiring practices. I guess Jews and Asians are the exceptions.

My husband applied for a job a few years ago. At the end of the interview, the hiring manager told him, “You’d be a great fit for this role. Our hiring policies require me to offer the position to any minority applicants first, but we’ll call you.” At least they were honest, I guess.
Except for the fact that there hasn't been a single minority law enforcement official, secret service, or otherwise depicted in any of the footage that's been released with respect to this incident.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle's explanation for not having agents on the roof because it was sloped is one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard. The agents on the roof that took Crooks out were on a steeper roof than the building with no agents on it. This is another catastrophe that involves DEI actions and unfortunately won't be the last. DEI is being applied to pilots and air traffic controllers for commercial airlines among everything else in the US.
Can't wait till most of our pilots are hired to check a box rather than be the most qualified.

No, they climbed a ladder with suits and dress shoes. None of them had any problem finding their footing once on the roof.
She needed to step down so people would feel comfortable coming forward to talk about the failures, but also someone told officers to stand down. This is more than incompetence.

Two points.. ONE...The Secret Service sniper team was standing on a sloped roof with a BIGGER sloop than on the roof the shooter was on.
TWO: .. The female agent trying to protect Trump was too short for demands of the job. That is why Trump's head with the blood streaks was so easy to see in those iconic photos showing him defiant with his fist in the air. Another of the agents, seeing the problem, held his crooked arm up to plug the gap.

She got the job purely because she became a friend of Jill Biden when Joe was vice president. Clearly it was Jill who appointed her as Joe has been incapable of such decision making for several year now. Ultimately it is Jill Biden who is to blame. It will also be interesting to see if the encrypted messages sent between herself and the White House in the lead up to the assassination attempt are released. It is possible that Jill Biden was actively seeking to weaken the extent of Trump's SS protection.

As a black women, I agree with everything at the end of this video and have said this for years. I don’t appreciate companies who openly commit the same racism they said they would irradiate. I also don’t want a nurse, doctor, pilot , LEO, etc who cannot understand the basic concepts of their job because we feel bad. Instead as he so eloquently stated,it should be the job of those concerned to figure out the why not steamroll qualified people.

Competitive, fair hiring starts with ensuring access to great education in all socio-economic classes. Trying to “fix” inequalities after years of poor education is fixing the wrong problem. First world countries should have first world education for all citizens.

I disagree, Doc. This wasn't just some day-to-day event; this was a hated opponent speaking out in the open. ALL/ANY protectees must be protected.
Had Mr. Crooks crashed his car into the front gate I don’t she would have had to resign. Had he been apprehended with the gun on the grounds I don’t think she would have had to resign. But the events of that day reached 99% of 100% failure. That’s significant. If a director can’t be held accountable for that, then what can they be held accountable for?
Kimberly Cheatle was representative of the overarching DEI culture pervasive in DC and corporations. Many people feel entitled, owed by the government. Hard workers are disdained, seen as racist. Promotions are increasingly granted due to demographics, not achievement. This is not new, and as a result, management at all levels has become increasingly overpaid and underqualified.
Who said hard work was racist? No one says anything unqualified white men get jobs.
When a leader is lynched without investigation then a message is sent to the lower in command that their actions will never see consequences and only the very top lose their jobs. This creates apathy. And then who would want that job at the top anyway?
There are incompetent people everywhere! But if any one person who is "diverse" screws up they become a representative for a whole group of diversity candidates when they may just be one of many who is just bad at their job! By all means do the research and see what the demographics are statistically for screw ups across all sectors at all levels of organisations etc etc 🤔

I think she had to resign because of her performance in front of Congress and not what happened in Butler. She appeared obfuscatory, superior, coldly combative towards those asking her questions and her refusal to answer these questions without any explanation as to why left the members of Congress utterly exasperated. I had the feeling she saw them as beneath her, as if she had somewhere far more important to be, resented having to appear at all and wanted everyone to know how tedious she found them. You can't do that and keep your job.

A lower level person was in charge of the site. Where Kimberly failed was in the investigation after the fact that.she never visited the scene. She also seemed to know nothing after 9 days of investigation. About half of the questions she was asked should have been known in the first 48 hours. She inspired no confidence that she was capable of even comprehending the level of concern the public and congress had over this issue. She actually looked bored during her congressional inquiry.
It's quite possible that being a DEI advocate she doesn't like Trump and put less emphasis on protecting him.

I guess the presidents, former presidents and candidates are quite important. Even if it was a lower level person in charge he/she would be among the best there is. It should also have been one of the top priorities for the Director. So what would I expect of a Secret Service director. 1, make sure that people in important positions are the most qualified, best trained and have all the resources required. She failed. 2. the director should be able to provided an first assessment 1-2 days after the event and a comprehensive assessment after 1 week. She failed again.
Agree with this 100%. The highest responsibility of the Secret Service is protecting US presidents, past, present, and viable candidates for the office. When your subordinates fail their mission, the director gets involved immediately, thoroughly, and decisively. She failed in all three of these categories, having no viable idea of how to proceed other than to give herself a 60 day window to investigate and conclude how the mission failed... highlighting her leadership of complacency and ingrained beauracracy

I wish I could say that I had never seen this kind of sickening behavior in leadership before. With 49.6% of college graduates and 56 million people in the US having a bachelor degree, I would have thought we would be doing better. Instead of holding them accountable, excuses are made for them. The opposite of meritocracy is the lowest common denominator of human nature. I also wish they'd have a hearing for the director of homeland security, because as I understand it, he's her boss, and is ultimately more responsible than she is.
There are some....my state has a Congressman (of many years) who's in a wheelchair. And a friend of mine who is blind, who was out of work for many years, got a job at the Navy base. I do believe it was created for her, but she's happy to have it, regardless

He had to start his own business, but discovered it had to be a business where none of his clients could ever find out he was blind. Eventually, he became a contractor for the FAA, and was responsible for distributing data to the public. The FAA never did find out he was blind, as far as we know. Thank God.

She worked customer service for the local cable monopoly. They'd both been out of work for a while when I met them about 10 years ago. We're all in our 50s (her bday is just days from mine), so I'm glad she found something. She mentioned the professor at base had a friend who was blun, so that's why I suspect the position might have been created/adapted for her (I feel like it's something that would normally be incorporated into another person's responsibilities, since it's busy at some times, slow or dead others).
Another friend who could see light and shade (and could therefore walk without a cane for miles if she knew the route), owned and ran a B and B for years, even did her own baking...but I think she always believed people couldn't tell (but I think they might have).

I used to ski ahead of him and click my poles together so he could hear where to go. He had a neon vest that said "blind skiier" so people could avoid him. But this was all back in the 70s and 80s, and people openly admitted to him that they didn't want to hire a blind person for insurance reasons, and also because they didn't believe their clients would have confidence in a blind person. His life was absurdly stressful. He was such a super achiever that he assumed it would be no problem to have a wife and kids. He was shocked when he encountered the discrimination.

The sense I get from this is that she was and is somewhat of a scapegoat. Non-sensical and political theatrics as far as her firing. Like they needed someones head on a platter “NOW”. Probably her resignation was forced. Not defending her but not allowing the evidence to produce the guilty parties is not good either. What her part was in this seemed determined by title alone.
As far DEI’s I think this needs to be overhauled. Who decided it is great or even good protection to have a 5’4” person as a bodyshield to guard a former President?

I think you are completely missing the point. The Secret Service mission is binary: succeed or fail. The Director must know that failure to succeed in the mission of one event by those under her charge must result in dismissal of that Director. No excuses. This zero failure nature doesn’t merely result in "fear", it necessarily results in ACCOUNTABILITY, URGENCY, AND MAINTENANCE OF STANDARDS.
"Kimberly" was a DEI hire by the partisan Bidens. "Kimberly" instituted destructive DEI policies that resulted in ridiculous situations such as under-strengthed 5'3" chubby females physically guarding a 6'3" former President. "Kimberly", a DEI hire was part of a highly-partisan culture who's mortal political enemy was the very man she was assigned to protect. This, after numerous partisan attempts were made to remove this mortal political enemy as an obstacle to her benefactor's reelection. Indeed, those on her side actively tried to remove Secret Service protection from their mortal enemy based on the grounds of the bogus partisan conviction of their mortal enemy. Quit making excuses for her. Very bad analysis.
Dr Grande, the largest responsibility of the top guy is that the buck stops with them. She cannot sluff this off on her underlings because 'she wasn't there'. I listened the whole hearing. Good points about how levels of management is supposed to work, but as they kept saying, Kimberly had 9 days to figure out what went wrong, and she had no answers. A doorman could have done a better job. She was hilariously embarrassing for women, the Secret Service, and America. Couldn't fulfill the basics of security.
