- The easy way to remove mould from silicone bathroom or shower sealant, how to remove mould without having to remove and replace all the silicone sealant.
you are responsible for trying this and i am in no way responsible if you cause damage to your property.

Oh my gosh, this is great. I've been struggling for weeks with our stand-up shower. My wife refuses to even clean it, much less use it because of how the mold has built up. I've been putting all kinds of products on it and was considering just replacing the whole shower because of the mold. I can't wait to get home and try this tonight. But I'm going to tell my wife that, according to the video, the wife has to do the work while the husband observes.
I'm the one doing the work too! Nicole
Where's this video been my whole maintenance career? Amazing thank you
WOW. This absolutely worked. 1 application took off 95% of my mold, ald it was BAD in spots. Used regular bleach, cut an old white sock in half instead of the paper, and then covered it in plastic wrap to keep it from drying out overnight. I think another application in spots will fix it all. Thank YOU!
Works just as well by applying liberal coat of quality bleach using paint brush, apply let it dry reapply 2-4hrs later job done. No tissue etc
Paper tower plus bleach to get rid of mould - great way. I did it for my kitchen sink pad. Soaked it for a few hours and the mould is gone. Great! Thanks so much for sharing.
This is sheer genius. I had years of mold buildup in my shower that I could not get rid of. I tried this and after ONE treatment it looked brand new. AMAZING!!!
Excellent trick! I followed the instructions immediately after watching. (I was having nightmares about having to replace the silicon.) 10 minutes' work, waited till the next day: problem SOLVED!
:) its so easy :) even in 2021
I was going to scrape off the sealant... Now, I'm having a "why didn't I think of that" moment! I shall give this a try. Thanks for sharing.
I thought that I was going to have to scrape off all the sealant and apply new. By using the method shown here the sealant is now as good as new and it has saved me from a messy job that I really wanted to avoid. Thanks for the video.
Thanks very much for posting this. It definitely works!
There are lots of videos about this, and nothing helped until I did what you do here. You can buy various liquids at stores, but none of them do anything. Of course, I tried bleach, but wiping some bleach on those black stains does nothing. This idea of putting it on paper pressed against the grout/caulk is excellent. And, there is no expense.
Cheers Tommy pleased it helped
I use HG mold spray for bathrooms and just spray over mold it won't damage bath or shower if it runs in.
It takes 30 mins but most of the time you can see the mold disappearing in 30 seconds.
When mold is gone just wash over.
The only thing about this spray it stinks of bleach but it works.
Just make sure a window is open.
Mike.
Great idea and instructions. It worked on my kitchen sink rim caulking very well. I used thin bathroom tissue, rolled to strips like 1/4" diameter, soak in bleach, then stick it along the moulded rim and press it down. After 10 hours, with window open, the rim is as white as brand new. 😄🙂🙃
Tried this overnight in my bath and shower with perfect results. After trying many methods and, of course, the pain of removing sealant and reapplying, I now have a great and easy solution. Many thanks mate from Lincoln UK!
100% works absolutely great way to get rid of the mould
Cheers Chris best way i have found for sure still mould free :)
The Beach Badger I really do appreciate you adding this video was going to take up all the old silicon and add new so saved me a. It of cash and a heel of time
You are a star. There was only a bit of mould on the silicone behind our kitchen sink but non of the commercial sprays worked. This method got the silicone looking like new again.
Thanks you are genius, i am having the same problem and nothing works, now i have found the solution. Thanks a lot and God bless you and your family
Thank you so much for your tip! I failed so far with bleach as I didn’t leave it on the affected area long enough. As you just said “overnight” the penny dropped and it was a success! Hallelujah, I don’t need any handyman for the job! Mostly don’t need to remove the sealing and do it again!
Trying it! Like others I was going to reseal it myself as I’m sick of the sight of it! Makes the bathroom just look horrible when it could look nice! I’ll comment how it goes! Thank you!
another thing you can use, is EXTRA strong vinegar, not the kind you put on chips, from a health store, works well on mold as well
To my understanding vinegar will actually kill off the mould too.
EVERYONE, PLEASE READ! I'm a professional mold remediation technician and I can tell you first hand, THIS IS NOT REMOVING IT. As a few people have already said, all you're doing is disclosing, (bleaching) the mold. The best only true remedy is to take the silicone out of the edge. There's a special tool made for this. $5/6. Then reapply silicone. They sell tubes that specifically say kitchen, bath. Apply and your good. Otherwise, it will grow right back. Also, take the time to wipe the edges off when done showering. Literally takes 10 seconds.
Thank you for this tip. I am still doing the bleach/tissue treatment but this I realise now will only be temporary.
You're 100% correct. Not only is it a temporary cosmetic fix, but once you see that mold, it means the sealant is compromised. Compromised sealant = water getting into area formerly sealed and damaging (to the point of collapse) everything under and next to your tub/shower/sink etc. Remove the sealant, get rid of the mold then reapply sealant. And yes, dry shower/tub after each use.
i done this in my bathroom 8 years ago, and can happily say it hasnt come back at all
We don’t have a window in our bathroom so I thought we were destined to constantly replace the sealant. I have tried bleaching the sealant before but it never worked. Tried your method left it for 7 hours whilst I was out today and it’s removed almost every black bit. It looks so good now, wow thank you
i was also happy with the results :)
Common problem at work, I swore blind there was no cure apart from reseal. . . my boss shown me this last year and yes it 100% works, I was actually speachless the first time it happened. Super top tip!!
I did this and it totally worked. I used cotton balls and pressed them into corners. Then sprayed with full on bleach and covered with tin foil to keep it moist. Left it over night and it came.out brand new looking! Thanks!
Oh man love your channel, you helpt me fix my printer paper feed and now this, you are the best
I also tried this, but I used cotton pads cut into strips, about the same width as the silicone and pre-soaked them in thick bleach and then laid them along the silicone with a toothpick! (and wearing gloves) Left for approx 16 hrs and pretty much all the black mould is gone. Very happy, i was dreading having to remove silicone and put new down (i've done this b4, its a nightmare) I put up with the mould for months, wish i had done this sooner. Its so easy!
I have tried 5-6 different products that were advertised as the best and didn't work at all. I tried your method in the last two days and most of the mold in my standing shower is gone. I need to do a repeat because I still see some mini spots here and there. Thank you so much for showing us! Nicole from Canada PS your wife is a good sport...
The Peddler the only way to get rid of it is to replace it! The bacteria causing is will still be there , bleach helps but really only makes it look like it’s going or gone... if cleaned regularly after baths / showers the white silicone should last 10years easy without any of this!
@@Colwray1 Yeah. I was thinking about it. We're redoing our kitchen in the spring and I was going to ask the plumber to replace it (same one who did my bathrooms). I think we redid that one about 12 years ago so it would be due. Still looks nice, though: no peeling or anything like that, except for the mold. No problems with the grout either... Nicole
The Peddler I do this kinda stuff fur a living .. if getting it done get good silicone not the cheap stuff!! you shouldn’t pay more that £40-50 max to have a bath done all in... I do them for £40 usually with a 5 year Guarantee!! 👍😃
Get a dehumidifier. Used to have this sort of problem - bath and ceiling. I just have the machine set to come on a couple of times each day for about an hour each time. Haven't had a mould problem since.
@@Colwray1 your bacteria survives bleach thats your theory. "Gravity disproven in 3 minutes - FLAT EARTH" ua-cam.com/video/-V-ZfRXReKM/v-deo.html
Oh my goodness this is brilliant. I am doing this tonight!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe this. This is wonderful. I’m so glad i found this video. Thanks soooo much.
Thank You! Seems nice and tidy! No exhaust fan in my bath so mold tries to sneak a growth spurt occasionally.
Dude! There was such a thick layer of the stuff round my bath that I was about to get all the gear bought to replace all the silicone. Then tried this method, only left it for about 2 to 3 hours and it already cleared about 75% of it away! Going to do another round of it overnight and hopefully get most of the rest. Thanks alot!!!
it definitely saved me alot of time and money good luck
So it’s bleach? How long did you have to wait?
Excellent. This broke the mould.
Ciff mould remover.
I’ve been in the trade for over 20 years and Cif is the best one so far.
Black and white bottle Only.
There are many variations from Cif.
Thank you sooo much for the advice. It is a nightmare trying to keep the shower clean. I'm going to give it a try. My shower door as openings along the bottom and I took a syringe that normally is used for baby medicine. I drew up bleach into it and squirted it into the slits. It helped some , however, I'm trying your idea.
This works very well, try using tissue paper in a small bucket with strong bleach, then squish the wet paper pulp into the join.
It works! I was speechless...thanks.
I remove the caulking with a razor knife. Treat the area. Then recaulk. Start from new.
Me too - in my rentals
Thank you very much for the video. Tried it and I was amazed at the result. I thought I will have to replace the sealant.
It works :) mine is still great too
I tried it and it works perfectly. Thanks
I just tried this around my kitchen sink with toilet paper and jaxex I had put into spray bottle. In 2 hours the mold was gone and the caulk pure white.
very useful and it worked perfectly find. the best thing is it's easy and using things that everyone has in their houses.
BRILLIANT ! many thanks for this, I tried many different ways and never got near to these results.
Thank you very much I am going to try this weekend! I have removed seal twice over the years and was going to pay for a plumber to do it next time because its quite a job! Fingers crossed 🤞 this works, judging by comments it does on others too 👍😁🤗
It works great for me Jenna my mould still not back , will save you time and money :) enjoy.
Using bleach on mold only takes the colour out of the mold, but the mold is still there and will come back in time, the old wives remedy is to use "Oil of Clove" mixed with some water and spray it on, oil of clove kills the mold spore and it won't come back, but eventually mold will form again after several months, you just psray it again with oil of clove.
What is the tar??
@@Nuggetman632 How do you mean "tar"?
@@brianmillar5075 I took the silicone out and there is a substance the Sam as road tar underneath Brian
@@Nuggetman632 probably some kind of mastic water sealant if you have removed the silicon just redo it with either white or clear silicon what ever matches your needs
Bleach will disrupt a spore. It's what hospitals use to disinfect microbes with spores, such as C. diff.
Thanks very much for your video. I tried it... it works. Mold's gone. :) :)
The results of this was brilliant. I hope it will work for my shower. Been trying to find something that will do this, so fingers crossed this will work.🤗🌏🇦🇺
Can't wait to try this. Where do I get the mould?
mould is available in most good stores now
@@gibbo2864 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😅😁😂 i can send some if you like! Got plenty so no problema
Pour Domestos everywhere the mould is leave over night clean off in the morning believe me it works if you can’t reach use paint brush or pour some in spray bottle
So helpful I am going to try this weekend, thank you!!!
It also works to bring the tile grout back to 'new'. I put it on with a small paint brush and rinse it off with a wet 'J' cloth.
Tip: Get a fan to leave in the bathroom (a small one will do) and turn it on pointing into the bath/shower (this is in addition to the ceiling vent fan if u have one) for about 15-20 min (until it’s dry) after bath or shower. This prevent mold growth. The reason the mold grows is because it stays damp too long.
i have a fan and it is on during and after showers :) thanks for your input though
Would've been nice if my ventilation fan was exhausting the humidity. My ventilation fan doesn't have a vent. It's just the fan itself.
*Great tip really works I know it works*
I have done same, tested multiple cleaners *only to find a named DOMESTOS BLEACH strong enough* (avoid all cheaper brands).
*Also used a paint brush to apply bleach to seal rather than faff of tissue etc*
Enough bleach applied without dribbling
Let it dry for 2-3hours and reapply as many times as necessary to get back to White
Bleach will dissolve some types of bristles.
Thank you, got rid of my hair dye which was stuck in the clear silicone sealant!
We completely dry the shower/tub with a towel every time we use it and leave the vent fan running 20 minutes and we've not had any mold since.
@Munchkin my extractor could not cope with all the heavy use in the bathroom i guess :) , you are right though if you can dry after ever use.
The Beach Badger we are the same at my house, I use mould and mildew cleaners, but it never got it all, so I tried a different method, I got some of the syringes with the very thin needles, put some of the cleaner in the syringe, and carefully squeeze it behind and under the seal where it goes over the grout lines , I then leave it for 10-15 minutes, then use a sponge to wipe it down, so far it has worked every time.
Fan on is good but remember, you're sucking heat out of the house. 10 min should be good.
Ideally you should have a decent size air gap under your bathroom door (10mm) to allow air into the bathroom, an extractor fan needs a constant flow of air in order to extract the moisture.
Even without an extractor fan the air gap under the door & having the bathroom window open would b enough to remove all the moisture & for free!
To remove/diminish mold and humidity from your RV, it is VERY important to ventilate. When we shower, I open the front vent and leave it off and run the bathroom vent motor to remove the moisture. When we are finish, I use my wash cloth and wipe the shower walls and wrink the water down the drain. My intention is to remove the moisture not to use a towel to wipe it down. Using a towel, all you doing is transfer the moisture from the wall to the towel.
It is STILL in the RV, so the humidity factor is in your RV and the comfort level is high or uncomfortable. I run the vent for 30 minutes summer or winter after showering until the shower is dry completely, then I turn it off and close both vents. It even helps from getting condensation on the windows in the winter time.
Keep in mind, you are generating as much moisture in your RV as if you would in your house, and your home is from 4-10 larger. So, it is very important to ventilate ventilate ventilate.
This makes a Win Win combination. Good Luck
Instead of using bleach, could you use vinegar? I generally use vinegar in a spray bottle and bicarbonate of soda on a scrubbing brush to clean grout. The combination of the two is very satisfying! My understanding is that vinegar will kill most moulds. Whilst bleach is effective, I generally feel it’s probably too corrosive to other things to be my first choice.
Yes I'm gonna try this. The thought of removing and resealing was daunting.
I removed mould around interior window frames and sills by using rolled-up Kleenex totally soaked in 3% hydrogen peroxide and applied for 3 hours. Peroxide kills mould right down to its “roots”, while bleach does not. There was a bit of rust left behind, so after a thorough rinsing, I repeated the same treatment with white vinegar, scrubbing it off with a paste of white vinegar and baking soda (very fizzy). My 35-year-old windows (inherited in very poor condition) now look like new-build windows. If you let the condensation build up on windows, you will have a brand-new infestation. Even when I maintain 30-37% humidity in the winter, I MUST wipe down the windows at least once or twice a day, most days.
i have no idea regarding hydrogen peroxide so i cannot recommend it, all i know is my method with bleach worked and the mould is still not back , Merry Christmas to you.
Just use Cillit bang black mould remover. Spray it on and leave it, job done. Good idea to use tissue to keep it from running away.
great idea, thinking of using it with a stained white worktop as well
I just sprayed regular bleach on the walls around the bath tub then closed the door. Let run down the walls then closed the door for a couple of hours and when I came back all the soap scum and any mold that was there was gone completely. I then just wiped the walls down with clean water and it was like new.
Ive just tried this tonight will leave it overnight will get the result tomorrow
Great idea (I've tried using bleach, but just running the nozzle along the joint between Bath and tiles, and the bleach obviously runs away). But THAT looks like Asda 'Thick' Bleach... And the last twice we have bought that, (Late 2018),IT HAS BEEN LIKE WATER.
give it try it really works
You might consider removing this sealant and applying a finer bead, there will be much less surface area for mould to form on.
Have u tried... That's what i was thinking..
Amount of times I have to replace the sealant because of mold for me and other people is to many. It's a pain. I will try this in the future.
When you replaced it had u a tar underneath
Being Southern I had no idea what he was saying.. glad they showed the codden bah (cotton ball) haha
Neat application of the mastic would help, the reason the mould is so bad in the corner is mostly attributable to the poor finish of the mastic.
This worked! thank you!!
brilliant :) please share the video with your friends :)
I like using chlorine bleach the thick stuff in the shower stall, leave it on for a few minutes and scrub it with a used toothbrush. also I like using in the toilet around the inside, I fill a squeeze bottle from Wal-mart the kind that ketchup and mustard come in that you can buy for a buck and squirt the inside with the "no splash" thick bleach. Works great, don't scrub it, just leave it on and the thickness sticks to the inside of the toilet!
Very smart idea , I will certainly try !!!!!
Righton tried it lastnight worked a treat ..propper job
I seen a video on the a couple of years ago. It really does work.
‘Cillit Bang’ do a spray specifically for this and no messing with cotton wool etc.,
Great advice. "Occlusive dressing". Give the chemical time to do its job.
Used bleach before but this way is so much better, thanks
That's great. Think now is for me, how to remove mould from walls, ceiling etc. I believe mould is a fungus and has a root system. If so, how to destroy the the roots. Please could you give me some idea of how to sort this issue out. Many thanks
Any tips for mould in the grouting between tiles? Thanks for this video, I will give this a try on the sealant.
Thank u for this much needed information. Bless u.
I was watching Lions fighting, and now I am here.
So was I!
Cheers mate thanks for sharing your now my wife's best pal works a treat 👌🏻👍
Wow can't wait to try this tonight, thank you!

Good demonstration thanks for sharing keep up the good work hopefully this is not a sign of a bigger problem.
I knew here to your community keep up the great work look forward to hearing from you God bless happy New Year's bye for now. Ken
Go over the sealant with some UPVC quadrant trim. Stick it with clear silicone.
A new bath install, so I opted to pay the extra for Forever White Sanitary Sealant with a 10 years no-mould guarantee. 1 year later and it was all mouldy. So I cleaned it all off with a common brand mould cleaner and preventer. Weeks later it was all turning black again. :-(
this works for me when all the mould killer didnt !! try it good luck i hate mould too
I'm going to get the wife on this one as soon as she's finished cooking my dinner. Hopefully it's all clean when I get back from the pub.
does she feed you and wipe your mouth......

Wish I came across this video sooner! #LifeHack
My bath is looking appealing again - to think I was considering to pay someone to reseal my bath 🙄 this is my go to from now on
it really worked for me so thought share the magic :) enjoy.
Thanks ...it worked like a charm.
bog standard bleach will not burn or do any harm to the bath, but a good idea liked this m8
Are dehumifers worth using and do they kill mold already in a room or do they just stop new mold appearing also is salt effective and ok to use in dehumifers that have crystals in the top of dehumifer when Crystal's have run out I have mold in my bedroom and I use dehumifers and I dont wanna have to keep buying more dehumifers
The mound here is on top of the sealant not under it yes? I’m guessing only way to remove mould under the sealant is to replace it.
You can use liquid call hypo for swimming pools use sparingly and ventilate very strong will work in minutes not hours but this and the bleach method DOES NOT KILL THE MOLD it only bleaches out the color it's still there only color less you have to scrub it to break the mold cells to allow the bleach / cleaner to do it's job from the inside out .
Thank you. Great idea
Thanks ever so much. Worked like a charm.. 👍
Good job thanks
Brilliant mate! Works a treat! Thanks!!
Keep well ventilated too fumes can be dangerous to your health
The only thing that kills mold is 1/4 tsp clove oil to 1 litre water. (no more or it wont work) Bleach only takes away the colour and you will find it still grows just invisibly, It is still there. Bleach does not kill mold. See Shannon Lush. That mold is not gone just the colour is gone. Sorry to inform you.
lol so this gives mould an invisibility cloak lmao, sorry but im sure mine is gone not cloaked ;)
Going to try this now, looks good to me,thanks !!
wonderful! thanks for sharing this!!
Remove old sealant and use a good qaulity anti bacterial sealant or whatever works best I'd never use bleach or anything acidic as it degrades the silicone drys it out etc
Will this work with coloured sealant- will it discolour it or will the sealant retain its natural colour? Thanks
For the grout in between your tiles apply neat bleach with a toothbrush and just leave for a few hours and scrub with the toothbrush. May need to repeat. I just sometimes leave the bleach on till next person showers.
Simple yet effective. Great!
A person who cleans roofs of mold told me to use pool shock that you can buy from a pool supply store. It is more concentrated that regular bleach. My question is how do you remove the mold on the vertical surfaces?
