I was just thinking yesterday "I wish I knew how to get the inside of my windshield really clean." Having been driven to distraction with the glare of headlights at night through my dirty, streaky windshield I have sworn off driving at night except when absolutely necessary. It is just dangerous. I worried about hitting a pedestrian or bike rider dressed in dark clothing as I have come close to doing just that and it scared the hell out of me. Then today, as if by magic, this video popped up in my recommended UA-cam feed. Felt like I had won the windshield cleaning lottery. Thank you so very much!
I'm 70 and thought I saw it all but NOOOO! I did it and smiled the entire time. No clay bar, used the magic eraser outside n inside. It's great. When I was finished, and smiling, I took the eraser to the fogged over plastic headlight lenses. Yep it worked great. They were sanded about 3 years ago and the ME took all the new degraded plastic off. Thanks

Thanks so much for your tutorial! I was driving at nighttime this past week. There were greasy smudges on the inside of my windshield - especially in the hard-to-reach area. I was blinded by the lights from oncoming traffic. I wasn’t sure how to get the windshield crystal clear.Your backhand method for reaching the tight area is great!
As an auto upholsterer I appreciate your presenting that the vinyl in vehicles are petroleum products. Something else people should know that the new car smell is actually all the adhesives for carpet, headliner, etc still releasing the chemical that allows the adhesives to be sprayed...
Just tried this with rubbing alcohol and paper towels and wow did it work great! Thank you! The streaks inside my car were driving me crazy. I’m sure if I had the microfiber towels and did everything the way you did I’ve had zero streaks. But for my paper towel, alcohol and glass cleaner technique making it 95% streak free I’ll take it!
3:05 A great alternative to your back hand method, especially for those who might not be physically able to do that, is to use a wooden paint mixing stick. If you fold your microfiber cloth in half, and then in half again, but this time having the cloth between the layers of cloth, point the stick towards the glass, not parallel, you will have an easy way to reach deep down towards where the glass and dash meet. When doing your final step on the interior, use a vertical wiping pattern, then on the exterior glass, for your final step, use a horizontal wiping pattern. This will allow you to see which side of the glass has the streaking, and it makes it super easy to remove, even in daylight.
I always clean the interior glass in an up and down motion and the outside in a side to side motion. This way you can easily see if any streaks are inside or out.

I'm a boater and a few years ago a friend showed me how to use a Magic Eraser to remove deposits and stains from my fiberglass boat hulls. The results simply blew me away! Absolute best product I've ever used for cleaning fiberglass! Never tried it on glass but now I will. Thanks for turning me on to it!
A new enthusiast here at 70, I used your recommendations first in my vehicles, The results were so spectacular, that I then had to do my houses interior and exterior windows, keeping in mind the ones that had the window tinting film. Great results! 🥀🕊🏎
Mr Fix. Great video. Thank you for sharing. I think you might have gone a little extreme suggesting that if the microfiber touches the dash you have to start with a new one, but I agree with your overall concept. I would add to that to remind people that if they wash and reuse their microfiber, do NOT use fabric softener. It causes the same problem. It deposits oils in the cloth to keep them soft which will also make them streak. Newsprint is another great way to clean glass if you finish it off with a clean microfiber.
i've been bothered by my dirty windshield for MONTHS and no matter how much i cleaned the exterior windshield...it wouldn't get cleaned. i never thought it was the INSIDE until my grandmother told me it was the inside of my windshield. this video showed me how to do it PROPERLY and i'm so happy with this video
I spent $6 on a spray bottle of a windshield cleaner at Auto Zone. It left streaks and smears. It was useless. Out of frustration, I went out to the car with some paper towel and a 89 cent bottle of rubbing alcohol. It worked perfectly. It dissolved what ever was on the windshield, and left no streaks. Worked so well I went ahead and did all the windows.
I don’t like using any window cleaner on any glass because it streaks because of residue , I’ve never tried Zep though. I was glass with a tiny bit of soap and finish off with hydrogen peroxide. Sparkles! I’ve got to try the Mr. Clean sponges.
I really love how he provides alternatives for people who don’t have access to certain tools or products. Really makes sure everyone can do this even if they only have barebone tools
I have struggled with the front windsheild for years! You think you have it clean until you drive, and then you see the smears. Thank you! I just happened upon this video while on my Jeep dealers email.
I cant believe how well this worked, my grandma used to smoke in her car, and the smoke formed a ton of streaks and I was looking everywhere for a good tutorial, and then I came across this one. I wanted to give the tutorial a shot and holy moly did i see a difference, I suprised my grandma with the clean windshield and she was so happy :), thank you so much!!!
Thanks Chris for the super video and tips. I recommend laying a towel on the dash, that way you don't have to worry about the droplets hitting the dash. But this is somewhat of a pain to deal with where the windshield meets the dash. Hope you got that windshield chip fixed otherwise a clean windshield is not going to be your biggest visual driving problem.
Your replies just gave me an idea 💡 when you're not driving the vehicle place a towel or newspaper on the dash so the oil gets absorbed by that instead of on the windshield 💡💡💡 ding, ding, ding, winner, winner chicken dinner 😂 thank you Chris for the tips
babolatpdtp Funny people talk about smoking but being overweight is just as bad if not worse so please start making sure you point out to fat people you see how unhealthy they are especially when you see them buying food. Make sure you’re skinny and healthy yourself! Thanks!

Pro-tip: throw a couple of old bath towels over the dash while cleaning the windshield and you won't have to worry about your microfiber towels grabbing up grease from the dash or your windshield cleaning products damaging the dash.
it doesn't stay at the top of the page when other comments are made and most ppl don't scroll down far ..... good idea no matter who it comes from ....👍.. I also throw towels over ..the last 30 years I've done that cuz i always am messy and dripping the cleaner lol

Great presentation. I used your interior cleaning to prep my truck to trade in. The dealer was very impressed with the cleanliness of the interior. Whether it helped increase my trade in... Who knows. With the used market needed vehicles I got almost what I paid for it six years ago. Talk about a good move. I think that cleaning the glass is only part of controlling the glare on the driver. The glare also comes from residue on the exterior and also on the dirty dash. Keeping those clean makes driving a lot easier.
This explains so much, like why my husband's windshield only has to be cleaned every couple of years (he parks in the garage) but mine starts getting bad every spring (we live in Albuquerque, so the sun is very hot year round). I usually wait until the end of summer to clean it because it's such a pain, but this will definitely make it less frustrating!
Dang!!! I just cleaned my windshield and your technique worked great. Best window cleaning job every. I could not buy magic eraser with dawn but added a dash of Dawn to some warm water and did the trick. Thanks for sharing!!
I did this today and it's crazy how clean my windows are. I knew they were greasy and dirty but OMG what a difference, I can actually see out the windshield and side windows. Amazing - Thanks Chris. I also found that the Mr Clean Magic Eraser deep cleaned my old porcelin kitchen sink, it now sparkles too.
I use a Dash Mat Cover in my cars, it stops that off-gassing, protects the dash itself, and it allows you to put things like sunglasses and other items without them sliding off. Covers cost is the $20 - $40 range and are custom made to fit any vehicle.
And after you're done the cleaning of the glass, put some NuFinish wax on a damp micro towel and wax the glass and clean it off with another dry micro towel and and it gets even better, dust stays off and beads when it rains. Doing it for years. Cheers.
The final step needs to be using RainX AntiFog. This is a really important safety issue as it completely prevents blinding glass fogging as may happen suddenly in a summer rainstorm. Reapply with every cleaning, and it also helps prevent the type of fogging the video discribes.
Excellent video!! If you do exactly everything that he is telling us, not only will all of your interior windows be crystal clear...you will no longer dread the process because you know how to get'er done and it takes less time with practice! FYI, Microfiber towels can only be washed with other microfiber towels and do not use fabric softener! I divide my microfiber towels into 2 loads...one load, dirty...other load, towels used for glass cleaning.
I just did windshield of wife’s 2012 Mazda CX-9. Cleaner now than since first day brought home. Cleanest ever!! I’m going to give windshield cleaning as Christmas gift to 3 people this Christmas!
Bro! Thank you so much for this! I did this on my brothers 07 Corolla last night. And it worked so well I also did it to my 2020 Corolla and 06 Legacy! Worked beautifully! Now I keep magic eraser in stock :) thank you again for always producing easy to follow diy with crystal clear audio/video and overall just great teacher! Wish you nothing but the best!!!
Yeah that's exactly what I was about to say when you showed how to clean that window you don't put anything on the dash to stop the microfiber towel from getting the oily protectant on it. So glad you mentioned it later. Also many people have 10 on their front window inside windows I don't know what state you live in but these videos you make should apply to everybody. I'm surprised there's not many people that don't know how to clean the windshield but evidently there are so on their behalf thank you.
Thank you very much for a thorough explanation of how to clean the front screen glass perfectly. I shall try it out. I've never got mine completely streak free. Your night drive video comparison was amazing. Excellent.
Purely as a matter of interest, I just cleaned the inside of my windscreen, which was badly streaked from a previous unsuccessful attempt using Windex. All I did was spray some 100% isopropyl alcohol onto a paper towel and wiped it lightly in a circular motion and then vertically and horizontally. I don't think I needed to but I then wiped the whole thing over with a new, dry micro-fibre glass cloth, again doing circles and then criss-cross. It was pretty much effortless and although I haven't yet tried it in direct sunlight, it looks spotless. I was amazed at how easy it was. I had bought a magic eraser and some rainx interior glass cleaner (which seems to be mainly isopropyl alchohol) but I don't think I'll need all that stuff. It was your tips that made me use the alcohol, so thanks!
Very interesting video. I owned an auto detailing shop for years and always wondered why the inside of a windshield got so dirty, especially when the customer was a non-smoker...duh, lol! Thanks for the advice. God Bless, Jeff :-)
Chris: Thank you over and over again for this video. EVERY time I get that film build up on the inside of my windshield, I revisit this video. I always forget that the key is the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. THAT is the tool that picks up the greasy film. THEN your favorite glass cleaner (Invisible Glass, etc.) is the final step to make it sparkling clear.
Just cleaned all my windows on my Nissan Sentra right now and Ill be dang. My windows look smooth and crystal clear. Feels like a brand new car. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the great video and tips. A mistake I used to make when washing micro fiber towels was adding fabric softener to the rinse water; WRONG - once I stopped using fabric softener, all smears disappeared. It pays to read the washing instructions on the attached tag before cutting it off the towel.
Thanks for posting this! My WORST pet peeve about cleaning the windshield has always been reaching those deep areas (I'm a short person). I'll try your trick and reach backwards, next time. Good video!
I'm addicted to your videos. The information you include leaves no stone unturned. I can't afford to make any costly mistakes & might have if not for your videos. I don't watch manufacturers "Brand" videos that push their product. I do buy some brand name products, but I like how you explain what ingredient to look for or what not to use, without selling a brand of product.
Worked very well. I did use paper towels for the first 2 steps and a microfiber towel for the glass cleaner. I used 90% isoprophol alcohol and it had a dramatic effect. Thanks again.
Trying to clean a windshield has always been a headache. This tutorial worked perfect for me. The side windows had some circular streaks afterwards. I probably should have flipped the magic eraser over to the other side probably because the windshield had more dirt than I thought
Thank you Chris. I was putting off cleaning my windshield for a long time, considering the process you suggested to be cumbersome. But after multiple frustrating night drives I finally decided to do this today. And it did wonders to my night driving experience. I wasn’t expecting the result to be so good. Feels like driving a new car! Thank you for the wonderful video, keep up the good work ❤
Wow - The Mr Clean Magic Eraser is a game changer for cleaning the interior of my Tesla Model 3. I had tried just about every spray, solution etc but still could not get away from annoying streaks thanks the off-gassing. Today they are crystal clear, and using the eraser there is no risk to having spray creep down into the electronics just below the windshield. Thanks Chris!!
Another GREAT instructional car maintenance video from Chris Fix!! Thanks for posting and sharing!! UPDATE: I used this method today while detailing my car, the windows turned out spectacular!!! I used an IPA instead of a magic eraser. Windows look AWESOME!!!
This actually helped! I used melamine foam and dishwashing soap. This simple combination cleaned inside of my windshield easily! (I layed some trash bags over the front dash, to avoid the dishwashing soap to drip onto the front dash. Thanks!
You Are A Real Instructor. Thank You So Much. AND I wonder why some people gave dislike for this simple great video??? Some people are Talents' Killers ...
Mr. Fix, great ideas, thank you for sharing. The only thing I would add is to remind people to always clean your glass, or car, while not in direct sunlight in the heat of the day. Thanks
ChrisFix, sorry but it's the truth. I am a window cleaner, I rappel hirise buildings and I guarantee I clean more glass in one day than you do in a year. Your method works, it's just allot of extra work for nothing
True , I would be better if our cars had a button and the windshield pushes out so it would be easier to clean it and not kill our selves trying to clean it
I did not expect this to work on a car that has been sitting for 3 yrs. I followed your instruction to a T. The last time the windows looked this good was when the car rolled off the dealership lot, the car is 15 yrs old.
Very well put together and informative video; thank you. I drive for a living and am in different vehicles every day... a magic eraser is small enough to carry with me in a ziplock bag (and I always carry a microfiber towel with me). Will have to give this a try.
@chrisfix have you tried the Windshield Cleaning Wand? Best invention ever. Easily get the hard to reach places, no need for funky twists and turns to get those pesky crevices.
Tried this out. A few thoughts: 1. He's absolutely right about not letting the magic eraser liquid dry on the glass. I found it best to do a section of the window and then immediately wipe dry. 2. That said, I was having a hard time using microfiber cloths to do this. They just weren't absorbing the liquid fast enough and I wound up with lots of streaks. However, it's possible I ruined mine by washing them improperly. I've heard that liquid laundry detergents can interfere with moisture wicking in athletic clothes; could be the same for these types of towels. Fabric softeners will do the same, though I didn't use any on my towels. Anyway, just stick with paper towels; they'll work fine for this part. 3. Early morning or afternoon are great times to do this. Low-angle sunlight will show those greasy streaks just as well, if not better, than bright lights at night. Just park somewhere the sun will be in your eyes and have at it. Good luck! Edit: Yup, ruined my microfiber by washing them with cotton towels and probably also by putting them in the dryer. Apparently the lint clogs up the fibers and heat damages them. Lesson learned for next time.
@@michaelfredmon4748 Yeah. The magic eraser liquid dries too much by the time you get to the end, and it leaves a residue. Then again, I live in a dry climate, so it's probably particularly bad here. Your mileage may vary.
@Walter - Use white vinegar in the softener dispenser. You will not be disappointed. I only use liquid detergent, but just the basic stuff from COSTCO. Never had an issue with less than absorbent towels.
I have tried this method and it works great, but I have noticed a difference when using the mr. clean brand vs the store brands. I always buy the store brand for this kind of stuff, but I have definitely noticed the mr. clean works better than the store brands I tried. Great video!!!

Man, you are my go to for cleaning my vehicles. I used your vids a few years ago. Just super cleaned my 2 rides glass inside and out. You rock. Thank you, sir.
Incredible. For my entire life I have been wiping, clearing, and messing with my freakin' windshields and they never get perfectly clean. But thanks to this video, I finally got it clean. It only took me 60 years to find this video, but better late than never. Thanks.
+Bourne Accident Awesome! That is what I like to hear! At least you got it down now and glad I could help!
Very well done! Narrator knows his topic. He doesn't stumble around. He tells you EXACTLY what to do and how to do. Outstanding!

That works great, only problem is, I get too many bugs in my teeth...
Just keep in mind that Magic Eraser is a micro-abraisve and excess use can eventually wear away some finishes. So be careful.
A new enthusiast here at 70, I used your recommendations first in my vehicles, The results were so spectacular, that I then had to do my houses interior and exterior windows, keeping in mind the ones that had the window tinting film. Great results! 🥀🕊🏎
good to see that there are old people still willing to learn new things:D
I did mine yesterday using this method. The result was amazing! Thank you, Chris!
Excellent job! You are such an instructor, every college student would pass every subject if professors were as good as you are! Hurray!
Indeed.
Impressive.
i've been bothered by my dirty windshield for MONTHS and no matter how much i cleaned the exterior windshield...it wouldn't get cleaned. i never thought it was the INSIDE until my grandmother told me it was the inside of my windshield. this video showed me how to do it PROPERLY and i'm so happy with this video
If everyone was as professional as you are in all of their endeavors the world would be a much better place. Thank you for your videos!
TheYoyozo mechanics would be out of business
Why don't you use a dash mat, from Auto stores.
Just super cleaned the inside and outside tonight. Oh man, what a difference. Thanks for the tutorial!
Worked so well I went ahead and did all the windows.
awesome!!!
LOLOL.....I figure my click was contribution enough for this guy ;) Plus, I already own microfiber towels (Costco is my friend)
Rubbing alcohol ....which brand.
@@mohankumarnl1456it’s all the same what do you care
When you want a precise, well descriptive, get-to-the-point instructional video, Chris Fix is the man hands down.
"get to the point"? It took him 8 minutes to say basically "microfiber towel, magic eraser/alcohol, spray glass cleaner."
Eric May You don’t even know how much I appreciate UA-cam personalities who get to the point.
man... how do you know all this?? your videos are most helpful!
Lots of experience! Glad the videos are helpful!

That's awesome!

God great minds think a like I was wondering the same thing why not put a towel on the dashboard so you don’t get cleaner all over it
Why dirty another towel? It's much simpler to apply the spray directly to the towel as Chris suggested.
@@ski3435 Old newspapers may do the trick as well.
"Smoking is really bad for you, but it's also bad for the interior of your car"
Chris Fix, saving lives and your interior.
babolatpdtp Funny people talk about smoking but being overweight is just as bad if not worse so please start making sure you point out to fat people you see how unhealthy they are especially when you see them buying food. Make sure you’re skinny and healthy yourself! Thanks!
Smoking What? Is Bad For You, Tobacco Or Reefer?
Entropy Regen society makes us think fat people are normal and perfect. No. Go to the gym for once and stop acting like you arent fat.
Entropy Regen if you call someone out for smoking (which is also bad to people around them) nobody will care. If you call someone fat everyone will hate you and attack you for body shaming.
He sounded more concerned about the car than the person smoking
Pro-tip: throw a couple of old bath towels over the dash while cleaning the windshield and you won't have to worry about your microfiber towels grabbing up grease from the dash or your windshield cleaning products damaging the dash.
i said that 4 months ago at top of page.
it doesn't stay at the top of the page when other comments are made and most ppl don't scroll down far ..... good idea no matter who it comes from ....👍.. I also throw towels over ..the last 30 years I've done that cuz i always am messy and dripping the cleaner lol
ohhhhhhh i see.... it wasn't on my list here?
actually for some reason when i look sometimes when I'm commenting i sometimes don't even see comments and then when i go back another timr i do ?lol messes me up dammit😆 and i really don't understand WHY it does this .... lovely world of technology haha
what a bunch of wiennies - "i posted it first", "no i did before you", "no you didnt, i posted it before you were born", no you didn't...yes i did......
Get a new husband.
wow years of messing with this and never getting it right, great tutorial, many thanks!!
No problem!
Love my Dash Mat!!👍
Was just about to ask what to put on the dash???? Thanks so much.
The "backhand method" use to be my mom's preferred technique in disciplining me

And after you're done the cleaning of the glass, put some NuFinish wax on a damp micro towel and wax the glass and clean it off with another dry micro towel and and it gets even better, dust stays off and beads when it rains. Doing it for years. Cheers.
perfect for those rain showers inside the cabin
@@1morejohnson it seals the glass and makes it harder for the oil to stick, therefore easier to clean.
@@1morejohnson you may need to get that fixed.
The final step needs to be using RainX AntiFog. This is a really important safety issue as it completely prevents blinding glass fogging as may happen suddenly in a summer rainstorm. Reapply with every cleaning, and it also helps prevent the type of fogging the video discribes.
@@1morejohnson Sorry for your confusion, I don't have rain inside.
Always best to practice on someone else's car first.
Words cannot express how thankful I am that you made this video! Perfect for what I’ve been searching for
You're very thorough and not all about being on camera. Nice job!
Excellent.
Any time! Let me know how it goes!
I scrubbed and wiped for hours, still wouldn't remove the smears, then cleaned my glasses and the smears went.

I laughed entirely to hard at this 😂
I have the same problem with my glasses, they always fog more than my windshield.🤣
Same for me , except it was my girlfriend... Cleaned my glasses and suddenly lost interest. Huh.
Thanks for that joke, dad.
I don't know why i keep watching these videos, they are just so interesting!
You answered your own question.
you just answered your own question.
One of the best how-to videos I’ve seen. Good, helpful info succinctly stated. Thank you.
Thanks a lot Ted!
i swear like i was not a car guy until like a month ago and now after watching his vids i feel like like i can built my own car
Very interesting video. I owned an auto detailing shop for years and always wondered why the inside of a windshield got so dirty, especially when the customer was a non-smoker...duh, lol! Thanks for the advice.
God Bless,
Jeff :-)
WOW! Tried this today, and it's crazy good! This is the technique I've been needing!

You should also air dry them, not put them in the dryer. They are sure great for cleaning.
No softener on fleece, sport shirts, micro fiber, or any cleaning tools.
I'm glad you love the videos! I try to make every video the ultimate video with the task at hand!
Great job..exhausting ..
I really appreciate you showing what to do and what NOT to do! Thank you, Chris!
Worked very well. I did use paper towels for the first 2 steps and a microfiber towel for the glass cleaner. I used 90% isoprophol alcohol and it had a dramatic effect. Thanks again.
Newspapers I use 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Trying to clean a windshield has always been a headache. This tutorial worked perfect for me. The side windows had some circular streaks afterwards. I probably should have flipped the magic eraser over to the other side probably because the windshield had more dirt than I thought
Glad the video was helpful!

I'm having the same problem with mine. Tik Tok says that film comes from our lungs.
Thanks
Thanks for the tip
Yes, I always do it about 1hr before the sun goes down so its behind the trees or the house if you cannot find full shade!
I always do it in the middle of the night, with no moon at all, so I can't see a thing.
It's 2023 and I desperately needed this tutorial.

Using gloves when cleaning glass is a good idea too it helps keep the oils from your hands getting on the microfiber
Also helps to prevent getting COVID-19 these days.
yeah and helps with OCD

make sure the gloves don't off-gas oils onto the microfiber cloth. Then you'll have to wear microfiber gloves to hold the microfiber cloth 😐
Come back to this video every year. Works great! Thank you!!!!
I might do all this and lay an old large Towel on the dash so I don’t have to worry about the drops on the dash that Chris talked about. Thanks man!
@chrisfix have you tried the Windshield Cleaning Wand? Best invention ever. Easily get the hard to reach places, no need for funky twists and turns to get those pesky crevices.
Tried this out. A few thoughts:
Walter Kruse By
Is that because it might leave a residue if you do the entire windshield before wiping dry?
