      Every supplier has different pricing. This one came from Bob Howard pdc in OKC. They are a dealer wholesaler open to the public, so the cost is much less than going straight to the dealer. I don't know what the current price is or availability. I prefer buying from the pdc over aftermarket suppliers. The cost is usually a little higher, but you can't beat the warranty and the workmanship.

    OKC Vet I have a 2006 E250 with 181,000 miles with a cracked head. It’s been running great. I’d like to just replace the heads but have a had couple mechanics tell to put in a Ford remanufactured motor. Any advice? Thanks.

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  4 роки тому +5

      Putting in a Ford reman gives you a 3yr/unlimited mile warranty. Its also one of the most expensive routes to go. If your engine was diagnosed properly and they are sure a head is cracked, replacing one head is the cheapest route. I would ask what your intentions is for the van. Planning on keeping it 3yrs? Using it another 6 months, then getting rid of it? If your planning to keep it around a few yrs, putting a factory reman is a great option. Full warranty, parts and labor for 3 yrs, & any dealer should fix it for free, other then fluids. Salvage yards want too much for theirs and you don't know the history/condition. Not saying you won't get a good one, but why chance it. If the heads aren't cracked, what's the issue? Most dealers/repair shops/mechanics don't want to chance it not getting fixed right and will suggest a reman engine. And I've seen my fair share of mechanics that aren't very good at diagnosing. The other issue is time frame. It takes more time to pull the head(s), send them off to a machine shop(which is the delay normally), and reassemble then to install a reman. I would get more then one opinion on the issue. I really don't see many cracked heads. With that many miles though, you may have other issues appearing and multiple repairs may cost as much as going with a reman. Many different scenarios I could talk about. Hope I helped.

    My 5.4 is a 2006 just bought it a few months ago Only 83k seemed to be in very good condition after buying I learned about these engines lol so far Iv done the updates spark plugs and solenoids vct that fixed a hot idle knock knock I’m running 530 I still have hot idle tick tick tick It runs strong and good But I’m worried the tensioners are bleeding off pressure I also get a quick little startup rattle sometimes on cold start Also when going real slow through parking lots and releasing foot off gas pedal I hear maybe the chain going a bit loose Just a quick little noise What are your thoughts ? Could you give me any pointers ? I’m wondering if I should just run with it or dive in and get a timing job done with a Melling HV oil pump and Melling tensioners I just took it 3k mike road trip and it was fine I did notice a rattle on open highways when on incline and going 70-80 Not sure if it was wind Everything seems nice and tight and my cats seem fine and o2 sensors aren’t loose and either are the heat shields It sounds like a heat shield I actually did the vct solenoids after the trip so not sure if it does that rattle anymore

      I'm not an expert but I can tell you what I did. Very similar situation as you described with my '04 F150 XL with the 5.4 Triton and common throughout if you read the forums and repair articles. I purchased mine 11 years ago with 60K miles and it has 192K today. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. I'm in the process of replacing the original engine with a reman like the one in this video which is what I opted for due to a plug that could not be removed. I learned that this was the original plug and had not ever been replaced, unable to extract so the techs just left it alone and did not disclose ever. That's on me. So instead of replacing the head only (which is what the Dealer advised), I decided to replace the engine. This is a long way of saying do the timing job if that gives you some comfort or drive your truck as is for as long as you can. You might not have any issues for a long, long time. The only repairs I've dealt with are a new water pump/thermostat and new radiator which were done in the last 3-4 months. Best of luck with your vehicle.

      @@dink8898 I replaced but not with a Ford reman. My trusted mechanic has a vendor where he purchases his Ford engines and there are several sources that can provide. Most, if not all, when i was researching offered the 36mths/100k miles warranty included with the engine. I have this same warranty. It's been about 4 months and 4000 miles since the replacement. Drives great with no issues, very quiet running motor so I'm pleased that I made the decision to replace. Sorry you're dealing with the issue and wish you the best. Hope this helps. Regards.

      @@okcvet1st updated rockers for these motors have a smaller oiling hole to help boost oil pressure because the original ones would cause so much oil pressure loss. My wifes 5.4 on the passenger side had worn out cam journals from oil starvation. also I am have always been a ford guy and I for one will tell you that Fords oil pumps have always been known for wearing out fast. I have always replaced oil pumps soon as I can. This is what people in here are asking for. I guess the best way to find out would be to go to the people that build that Ford reman engine and that would be Ford.

  • @seanhoward8025
    @seanhoward8025 Рік тому

    These are NOT remanufactured by Ford. They are remanufactured FOR Ford by AER Engines and sold through Ford dealers and delivered to the dealer or the shop of your choice by AER.
    I’ve heard bad things about the Jasper reman’d engines. I know Powertrain Products uses the upgraded Melling HV oil pumps and I believe the metal timing chain guides and improved cam phasers; not sure about the roller followers. Does anyone know if AER uses any of the upgraded components?

    • @okhotrodder
      @okhotrodder Рік тому

      It doesn't matter who actually remans them. If they are certified/authorized and that's who they chose to reman for them, then that means it's prob the best you can get by their standards. Everyone knows that. Oakley doesn't make their sunglasses. Some manufacturer in China does. Not many parts are made by any manufacturer. Especially computer components and drivetrain parts. I don't really care, especially when they give the warranty they do. If AER agreed to the warranty, must mean they are better than places like Jasper.

    • @seanhoward8025
      @seanhoward8025 Рік тому

      @@okhotrodder I was responding to comments as to who actually does the remanufacturing for Ford. As far as warranty, Powertrain Products has a longer warranty (5 vs. 3 yrs) and offers extended warranties out to 7 yrs. This and Powertrain uses Melling HV oil pumps, improved cam phasers and roller followers, metal timing chain guides, etc.
      I am NOT saying which one is better, but I would not buy anything from Jasper. As far as the 5.4 3V being a POS, I do not agree. These are an OHC, not an old pushrod 302 and require scheduled oil changes (no more than 5k miles), with a high quality filter and synthetic or synthetic blend oil. The top end on these engines MUST be supplied with the proper volume of clean oil at all times.

    • @okcvet1st
      @okcvet1st  Рік тому

      @seanhoward8025 You may be referring to the metal tensioners instead of the plastic ones. The guides are still plastic. Ford is using the updated phasers, which are just newer style. I use the melling hv pump when replacing timing sets. Occasionally I'll use the hp pump depending on application. The remans do not come with hv pumps. A reman shouldn't need one. The chains/guides are the same.
