  • We finally got a bit of safe ice, about 4" to 4.5" thick. We're out here on the ice looking for perch and running the smaller sized Stingnose jigging spoons. Jigging is a simple way to catch perch through the ice.

    That is subtle the way you jig. My hands aren't very steady, so I guess I should just try to hold my rod steady!

    Here in Minnesota, we've been having a very warm winter. Ice on the lakes is thinning quickly. Cars and trucks are going through the ice! Might as well get ready for kayak and shore fishing.

    Just went to simcoe today 10" at Virginia beach and 8" at cooks bay, decent fish, where do you usually walk out at on cooks? Great video!

      usually go out of Lefroy, but there seems to be so many smaller fish there, so next time, we will venture out of Lefroy as there is deeper water there and bigger perch :)

    When you are ice fishing with spoons do you usually have better success tying direct or using a snap lock?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  4 роки тому

      ..both work but I like to use a small snap which allows the spoon to have more flutter action and allows me to change up sizes and colors as need be :)

      Hi Teresa....they sure can make you sweat, but once you figure out how many layers to put on underneath, it's much better - haveing said that, I went to Lake Simcoe last week and I did sweat a lot :)

    cant you tell me where the perch are normally located in this time of year? i got 3ft of ice here and i cant drill too many holes, maybe maximum 3.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  4 роки тому

      They can be off points, drop-offs, and in areas holding weeds - good luck :)

      @@thundermistlures thank you very much. i have tried in the shallow near the drop off, but no fish to see. next time i will try in the deeper part.

    Ivo we have safe ice on Martindale. Where were you fishing in this video? I walked out to the huts on Martindale and asked. We have between 3 (near shore) to 7 inches of ice.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 років тому +1

      this was in Welland - at the old canal....only 2 inches of ic there right now :)

    • @ryannlarge1486
      @ryannlarge1486 6 років тому +1

      Thundermist Lures I will have to check it out some time this season thanks. Martindale was slow for us that day a few guys pulled up 4 perch between them. It might be a good idea to stop by Peter's and pick up some large minnows for the pike in there. I'm sure you would crush them on that sting nose though.

    What is your favorite way to prepare the perch you keep?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 років тому

      Here's a couple very simple ways to prepare perch, but I also like the panko recipe we just released last week as well :) ua-cam.com/video/S0S9LvBSnH8/v-deo.html

    Where would I be able to get a hold of the sting nose? is it available only online?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 років тому

      Dicks Sporting Goods and Field & Stream stores carry the Stingnose - otherwise, you can always get them on line form such places like tackledirect or amazon or of course of from thundermist Lure Company...although stocks are low right now and new inventory arrives in the next few weeks :)

  • @chatimer

    what do you do about little red worms, do you still eat them?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 років тому

      We like to use the red worms in the summer for perch & sunfish and in the spring for bullhead catfish :)

    • @chatimer
      @chatimer 7 років тому

      I enjoy all your videos, you guys do an amazing job. What I was wondering was, do you often find white or red worms in the cavities of the fish you catch?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 років тому +2

      Those worms are typically found in fish that live in shallow lakes....in Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and the Niagara River, it is not an issue but it certainly is in some of the smaller/shallow lakes up north :)
