    Matty, this was fantastic! The perspective of the camera captured your lead, climbing style and The Black Dike incredibly. It was as close to the perspective of leading ice as I've ever seen on video. Also, placing the screamer at 3:50 and the climbing that followed was legit. Love your content man, keep up the good work!

    Cool perspective! Did you strap an extension pole on the back pack?

      Correct. Although it feels rather silly, and occasionally tap the pole when I swing, it works well enough on steep climbs.

    What kind of gloves do you use?

      Most of the time I’m using an inexpensive leather glove: Dirt Bag made by Black Diamond.

    How did you have your camera set up? Or did you have someone filming you?

    At 25:26, your right ice axe create a diner plate, the ice became white and the 3rd hit sound is hollow. How do you decide that the ice axe is good enough and keep it instead of placing it again ?
    Same at 25:55 on your left ice axe

      It’s all sound and feel. The tool is shoulder tested before moving up. Tools are offset to prevent compromising both tools if large plates or fracturing occurs.

    Hey Matty, just curious what type of GoPro mount you use to capture that overhead view?

    • @MattyBowman
      @MattyBowman  9 місяців тому

      Nothing special. It’s mounted on a pole on my pack.

      It varies each season. More trips this year. It didn’t really come in last year.

    Didn’t place a whole lot of protection!

      We’re all comfortable with different levels of risk. My general approach to ice climbing. I place gear to protect the pitch, and not the moves. I’m protecting myself with my climbing skill. Hope that makes sense (and doesn’t come across as vain).
