I'm surprised that more historians don't attribute some of the changes in Henry's personality to the brain trauma he obviously sustained in the accident at the joust. The fact that he was in a coma for some hours demonstrates that he indeed suffered a closed head injury, and modern medicine recognizes that this can result in personality and cognitive changes. If you add chronic pain to this, his subsequent actions and volatile temper make perfect sense. Note that Ann Boleyn's fall from favor accelerates after that accident.
Thank you! I've often asked the same thing. There's a couple of documentaries about HVIII and CTE, but it does need to be looked into a bit more. Because the other option is that he was a serial killer. But with the way his behavior just completely went off the rails, CTE is almost a guarantee.

Henry the 7th and Elizabeth of York as well as Edward the 4th and Elizabeth Woodville are most fastinating to me. Largely due to the fact that rarely did royal marriages start or end in love, yet one of these had both and one of these at least had one. Both, however, very seemingly deep and true. Not to mention the plots and the state of the country through both...I feel like such a nerd and no one understands my obsession with This era of history but it's so wonderful and fascinating to me!

I have just finished watching a series called The White Princess... It was absolutely amazing it is all about Henry 7th... Very interesting indeed and without a spoiler alert we truly have been taught lies...Queen Elizabeth should never have became a queen, neither the rest of them.. If the Yorks were not robbed of their throne things, would be very different now... I only discovered all of this by watching The White Princess...
@@loudrah326 if you rely on a starz series for "real history" I feel like your IQ is of a child . The white Queen is strictly for dramatic ENTERTAINMENT . 😂 Pick up a history book not a modern day fiction novel made into a mini series on starz network
I consider her to be England's greatest queen. It is a shame she never married and had an heir, but I attribute her experience with her father to have caused much of her reluctance to marry. She saw how he treated his wives which was shabbily to say the least. Then she witnessed how her sister was treated by her husband. To say she had no good role models when it came to men treating women well would be an understatement. Even when she came to love Robert Dudley, once his wife died under suspicious circumstances, she realized that she could not marry him even if she wanted to. Even had Dudley's wife died of natural causes, it would have been inappropriate for her to marry a subject. All in all, she had a successful reign and left England much greater than it had been at the time she succeeded her sister.
One analysis on her choice of remaining single was that in the power game of European politics, Spain and France remained neuteal so long as she did not align with either.I love two quotes: To a courier who had ill-advisedly suggested she must do something “Must is not a word to use to princes, little man.” Before a battle, as she dressed in armor “I have the heart and stomach of s prince and of a prince of England too.”
Mary was indeed our greatest Queen of all time. Burning protestant heretics is not for the faint of heart, but she endured what must be done for a better society.
If she married and had children, she wouldn't be herself. And can we please take into account that a woman can simply have no desire of a marriage and children?
As I’m watching this, I am on ancestry and have come to find that Lord Stanley is, indeed, my 16th great-grandfather. He was the step-father of Henry VII. So damn close to the thrown, yet so far! It’s amazing, all of this history.
I think Margaret Beaufort is the most interesting of the Tudor women (except Queen Elizabeth), she started as a 13 yr old mother in a damp, forbidding castle in Wales, to becoming the Queen Mother. She always landed on her feet and made great marraiges.
Just ended my UK trip and heading into an 8hr flight home. This will be perfect. Went on amazing tours and met some amazing people. Can't wait to come back.
I have watched so much about the tudors history but ur story has told even more about them than what I've learned previously and thank u. Ive really enjoyed it.😊
Henry VII should be considered as one of England's greatest Kings, Not because of his popularity, but because of the long term effects his policies he had implemented that set the foundations for everything that has lead up to the events that has happened up to now
The finding of Richard III was historic, it’s one of the most remarkable findings. I have told my grandchildren, if we don’t learn from the past our future will be flawed, our past has so many lessons to teach us. Thank you for this on the Tudors, it’s my favourite part of our past.
I'm going down quite the royal rabbit hole. I've just finished watching Britain's Bloody Crown with Dan Jones and re-reading all about the Plantagenet dynasty and the Wars of the Roses. Now, it's on to The Tudor dynasty. The word "rich" falls short of describing the history of England's monarchy. I'm completely addicted. Thanks, House of the Dragon.
All of that is just POP HISTORY. If you are really addicted, you'll read The English chronicles including Richard Arnold, Customs of London; Robert Fabyan, New Chronicles of England and France; John Hardyng, The Chronicle from the First Beginning of England unto the reign of Edward IV; John Byddell, A Short Chronicle from Henry IV; William Powell, A Chronicle of Yeres; John Mychell, A Breuiat Chronicle; Johann Carion, The Three Bokes of Chronicles; and Edward Hall.
Listening to this while sleeping woke up to Henry and it was sad how he was such a great king to what he became over time and choices. Love listening to history and the reader has a great voice.
The music drove me a little bonkers, but the content was fantastic! So detailed, with little-known facts woven in. I have been soaking in Tudor history for decades, and there were some facts and info here that I'd never heard before. Excellent! Love it when I learn new things.
Well this has got to be the first video on UA-cam. That is 5 and a half hours long and I watched all of it without skipping. Very interesting and I learned a lot.
This is so very interesting. I am obsessed with Tudor history. I am listening to this as I work on ancestry. As I work on ancestry, I found out that Henry VII is my 15th great-grandfather. His daughter, Margaret Tudor, is my 14th great-grandmother. I can sit here for hours listening to this to learn more about this dynasty. I wish they would do this kind of a documentary on the other dynasties of Great Britain.

@@hannytierlierblaauw192 no he didn’t, he killed some but actually pardoned most of them & successfully outlawed the ppl that were most likely to betray him (the goon squads that popped up every time the throne changed hands) I’m not saying he did it for anything more than to appear that letting them live was by his good grace, that’s just good PR. I don’t love Henry vii or Richard iii so I look at the whole situation without bias & I’ve studied it for many years. Why would he question the boys deaths? He would’ve no business being on the throne if they were alive. He probably felt like Richard did him a favour. Remember no foreign rebels, or heads of state every accused Henry of killing those boys yet while Richard iii was king every court in Europe was convinced that he’d killed his nephews as well as many loyal Yorkist fled to Henry’s cause because of king Richards actions. As I said in my initial comment, there’s no denying Henry vii was a successful king, he ruled longer than all York kings combined. Put an end to the war of the roses, successfully filled the royal coffers & avoided unnecessary war & conflict where possible, handed the crown to his son without challenge, that alone had not happened in a looong time & with full coffers: successful king. And he changed the date to the 21st as Bosworth took place on the 22nd.
@@hannytierlierblaauw192 and what do you think would’ve happened if Richard had won at Bosworth? All medieval kings were as bad as each other but that was the way of medieval times & war. Whoever won that day it would’ve been a disaster for the opposing side.
if you think that’s all he done then maybe you should research him further with an open mind. I have done so with both him & Richard iii. But when it comes to Ricardian theories unfortunately all any one can point me to is unreviewed websites or books that can’t get someone with a BA in history to review them cos no one wants their name attached to it. The things I’ve found out about Henry vii are documented facts. The good & bad. As the duke of Gloucester Richard reputation cannot be criticised harshly, he was extremely respected & a war hero, loyal to Edward while Warwick & George plotted against him left & right, I’ve found out some good things Richard did as a king cos as soon as he became king he did everything by the book, strived for a better image since at the very least he usurped his nephews crown & at worst gave orders to have his nephews killed. Henry Tudor didn’t kill men who fought for Richard he charged them with treason so he could confiscate the lands & property of Richard III while restoring his own. It’s never just black & white & no king is simply good or bad theres a lot of grey areas. Personally I believe Henry Tudor was the more successful king. To each their own tho.
I finished watching last night the series called The White Princess all about Henry 7th..opened my eyes and things would be very different now if the Tudors Henry 7th did not Rob Richard of York of his rightful throne.. Kings mother Margaret was brutal and had alot of blood on her hands.. The show well and truly opened my eyes

I'm sure they have an abundance of intrigue and just as exciting tales to tell. I would love to hear an in-depth documentary about Charlemagne and other European monarchs.
Charlemagne was centuries before the Tudors.....much of what is "known" about him would be conjecture. The further back you go, the less likely you are to get near to the truth.
@@leanie9660 That's not true at all. All history can be taken by a grain of salt, as it was written with a one-sided view. Hell, the last portrait painted of Henry VIII was nothing but pure propaganda. The man was old and feeble at the time the portrait was painted. There is plenty of history there to get to know the man Charlemagne as much as one can know Henry VIII. If it weren't for him, we may have never known the Tudors as intimately as we do today. His contributions are still being felt today, and it had absolutely nothing to do with lopping wives heads off.

@@L.A.Tex_Norway I'm American, and I don't get it either. Now there's a certain group over here that's trying to sanitize the history that IS taught, removing lots of important things to suit their own liking. Land of the free no more.
I so love Tudor history, i love all my English and British history too, it's so fascinating, thank you for sharing this with us, you explained it all brilliantly.
I hope you've seen Tudors on Netflix, great flippin show
I’ve never seen a video more deserving of a like, comment & sub than this masterpiece.
Would you please consider adding the auto-generated English subtitles for the non-native speakers? Sometimes it helps me catch the meaning of a sentence if I don't hear some of the words and keeps me focused as well. Love this channel anyway, really great work!
and deaf people :) I just started this but realized I can’t watch it without subtitles and i’m so sad!
I actually learned a new word- pious (i think it is so spelled)
I love how we are 40 minutes in and we just passed Bosworth. Henry 7 never gets any respect.
Try Henry 7th The Winter King...good doc on Henry.
@@loudrah326 you do know that the show is based on Phillipa Gregory novels and have about as much historical accuracy as Harry Potter right?
@@triciacarey2288 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Sooo true! It’s pretty much “The Other Boylen Girl

I agree! You basically read my mind lmao!
One analysis on her choice of remaining single was that in the power game of European politics, Spain and France remained neuteal so long as she did not align with either.I love two quotes:
To a courier who had ill-advisedly suggested she must do something
“Must is not a word to use to princes, little man.”
Before a battle, as she dressed in armor
“I have the heart and stomach of s prince and of a prince of England too.”
Mary was indeed our greatest Queen of all time. Burning protestant heretics is not for the faint of heart, but she endured what must be done for a better society.
If she married and had children, she wouldn't be herself.
And can we please take into account that a woman can simply have no desire of a marriage and children?
Well said .
As I’m watching this, I am on ancestry and have come to find that Lord Stanley is, indeed, my 16th great-grandfather. He was the step-father of Henry VII. So damn close to the thrown, yet so far! It’s amazing, all of this history.
Are you using a site for it?
He is also my ancestor

Throne not thrown
I wouldn't trust ancestry tbh, told me I'm a descendant of William Shakespeare
five hours of Tudor history my heaven 🤪 Wow! great job ! this is a fantastic doc.
I think Margaret Beaufort is the most interesting of the Tudor women (except Queen Elizabeth), she started as a 13 yr old mother in a damp, forbidding castle in Wales, to becoming the Queen Mother. She always landed on her feet and made great marraiges.
You don't know the real history of Margaret Beaufort. Where did you get his mistaken version of history?
@@DL-od4su I am curious. What is the right version history of Margaret Beaufort?
Margaret Beaufort is my fav as well
Just ended my UK trip and heading into an 8hr flight home. This will be perfect. Went on amazing tours and met some amazing people. Can't wait to come back.
5hrs?? I'm so hyped! Thank you ♡
I have watched so much about the tudors history but ur story has told even more about them than what I've learned previously and thank u. Ive really enjoyed it.😊
Henry VII should be considered as one of England's greatest Kings, Not because of his popularity, but because of the long term effects his policies he had implemented that set the foundations for everything that has lead up to the events that has happened up to now
As much as I want to disagree, I can’t. He did have radical effects on the world. I just dislike how he treated his wives and children.
@@gidzmobug2323 I have a confession...I can’t read Roman numerals😳
My ancesters enslaved me 22 generations later.
The finding of Richard III was historic, it’s one of the most remarkable findings. I have told my grandchildren, if we don’t learn from the past our future will be flawed, our past has so many lessons to teach us. Thank you for this on the Tudors, it’s my favourite part of our past.
Very consistent recap, now I can outclass my best friend in a trivia based on the 5 Tudors.
Almost six hours… this will be my Sunday 👍
We'll turn the music down.

Well this has got to be the first video on UA-cam. That is 5 and a half hours long and I watched all of it without skipping. Very interesting and I learned a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I literally squealed with delight when I saw the length of this!
Repetition of material may be an oversight but due to it's complexity makes it much easier to learn. Well done.
I think it’s because they are all separate videos just put together in order.
Almost broke my neck clicking the video so fast. OBSESSED with this family 😭
People who are related to such a disgraceful line of people shouldn't brag about it. Yes, history is interesting. Because they were so different. But really, why would you openly admit on the internet to being related to these people...unless it's not true.

Queen Mary was both the heir of Tudor and York, but also two of Europes strongest Monarchs from her mothers side. She had the strongest royal bloodline, what a different world it would have been if she had a child

1st! Woo hoo! Great vid as always. I think Henry vii was a successful king no matter how he came about it. Tudor drama was never ending
Oh I haven’t even watched it all just realised how long it was I got to the 2nd advert & thought that was it 🥴 I thought it ended a bit abruptly lol! Sorry I shall watch the rest of it. No wonder I was 1st to the comments 😂😂😂

Charlemagne YES!!!
The Tudors were Welsh.
@@edwardtandy9613 Henry VII was born in Wales to Margaret Beaufort. I thought her family was basically French.
