The problem with a lot of "strong female characters" today is that the authors are often too scared to show them being weak because some morons think that the author's saying that women are weak or, even dumber, saying it promotes violence against women if it's an action-adventure story.
Luke could lose his hand. Batman could get his back broken. McClain could get his feet damaged. You can't do that with female characters without some idiot complaining.
"you can't just hurt a *FEMALE* fictional character that's sexist and promotes r@pe culture and violence againts *WOMAN* "

I love how Samus from metroid makes a good strong female character. Even though in most of her games, she doesn't even have much dialog.

And remember when somebody decided to get rid of that and nearly ruin her in Other M?
She's my role model, even though I'll never be over 6 feet, raised by alien birds, have a super suit integrated to my DNA, or explode an entire planet. 😔
The thing about the Scarlet Witch is that, in the comics, she's always been powerful as shit. The conflict almost never comes from her being overpowered, it comes from the frequent mental breaks she has. She created her own children out of thin air. She completely rid the world of mutant genes. She changed the entire canon of her universe to give Magneto and her family control of the world. She's crazy.
I was going to say the same thing. If you read her wiki, her powers are basically "yes." She's still a good character though because she has massive flaws that keep those power from going too OP.
Indeed. The Movie versions of comic book characters are actually Nerfed.
@@marksalmoneussorcerersupreme Honestly, yeah.
Overpowered characters can still be lovable and deep, some even more so than weaker ones. Two off the top of my head, AM (I have no mouth and I must Scream) and Doctor Manhatten (The Watchmen.
In the comics, Thor and Hulk could break planets and Dr. Strange could rewrite history and destroy galaxies. Even Iron Man was still on par with them.
A female He-Man fan actually said it better; "If all the shit comes out of her mouth is from a male character, they'll still be unlikeable."
It's a pity he didn't mention the recent Netflix She-Ra series. That show is the worst.
That Bitch Noelle Stevenson and her crew stuffed the recent She-Ra series full of Feminist and LGBTQ propaganda BS! And she promoted an abusive relationship in a show allegedly aimed at children. And Catra is a freaking Mary Sue.
@Rob Shabibo Thing is, it's quite possible for a character to be a jackass( _Ash from Evil Dead, anyone?_ ), & yet still be likeable... not everyone wants cookie cutter 'flawless' heroes.
Sadly, most SJW writers have yet to find the right formula - their "heroes" lack flaws, yet _still_ somehow manage to be completely insufferable!
@Rob Shabibo ...try switching it around, dingus - I'm ok with "flawed" characters, so long as they're still likeable; indeed, the flaws of such characters is part of what makes them interesting. SJW characters, on the other hand, try so hard to be flawless **cough** Rey **cough** yet still somehow manage to have all the likeability of a treestump..!
I'd thought my original post would've made that fairly clear; however, going by your other rantings in this thread, your ability to miss the point is... godlike.

How about just making good characters that happen to be female?
THANK YOU

Dont you know female is the personality trait? It just morphed from the 80s.
People forgot how to made good story people lost their creativity
If ever you think that what your character is doing is fine just because they're your female protag, just switch the sex and see if it still holds up. Like, imagine if Teela was some guy whining about not being told everything, all while people were grieving for their kid. While we're at it. Can we address how they made King Randor a total asshole to Adam and Duncan, and pretty uncaring about He-Man's death. All so that they could contrive this bullshit scenario for Teela to storm out with an undeserved moral high ground.
I remember watching a certain anime series about a bunch of kids were transported to a world within computers full of digital monsters. And the one that is the stereotypical girl character actually has the best character development. Through all of her interactions with failed Digimon, Mimi has grown into a good character! Sure she still has her flaws but that's why she's so good. If you watch episode 25 of Adventure in the dub, Palmon calls her a spoiled brat ((She says "I hate you" in the sub but you get the point.)) And this causes Mimi to reflect on her actions. How she was taking advantage of others because they were pampering and spoiling her.
Update: I'm watching the 2020 reboot and man is it doing good by her! It shows that she is a good person who wishes to help others, but she does have her moments of vanity. Check out episode 37 if you wanna see it first hand!
Hell yeah, good times
At least she apologized for acting rude. Unlike some characters they're making now a days.
Mimi from Digimon Adventure
Aw yes I also remember watching that anime as well, great times.
modern writers don't have the balls to actually do something like that for female characters because even the implication a women is acting spoiled even if true is labeled as a statement across all women rather then the individual which prevents compelling narrative and creates annoying female representation as they keep the flaws but none of the call outs or growth.

As a male, I like having female characters that are important to the plot. But it’s also important that they’re well written as well.
This is just a guess, but the appeal to China streamlined tropes. Like most characters follow a basic trope with just a few tweaks to them. This is why so many so-called “strong” female characters fall into the same category without the writing backing them up.
But there are still well written female characters, they’re just diamonds in the rough.
Heck, I can name several series with main female characters that are well written to the plot and how being a female is important to them.
Donna Noble (Doctor Who)- Worked as a tempt just so she could find a man to sweep her off. The show has her going out of her way to gain her own confidence and become an j dependent women.
Ianna (Adonis) - Eventhough she’s a prodigy in the male-dominated world of swordsmanship, she still struggles to overcome her male rival while dealing with the trauma of abuse.

@@DrDoompenguin That wasn't even a win, as far as the narrative goes. It was him losing his way and being swayed by the dark side.
I'm not against female protagonists being talented in what they do, but there needs to be a balance. To me, two things are needed to accomplish this: 1. There needs to be difficult obstacles for them to overcome. Having a character of either gender blast through opponents with little effort is boring and just serves to bring down the film or show. It's like watching Godzilla Final Wars. It's Godzilla alright, but the only enemy that actively posed a threat was the final encounter, which made it a fairly boring movie to sit through. And 2. They need to have personality. Being strong is not a personality trait, period. Find a way to liven them up and show who they are. A great example of this is Kim Possible, a strong willed female character who can be serious in one scene, and in the next, talking with Ron about school problems or Monique about clothes and boys. She's a well rounded, fun character to follow and that's why I kept up with the series from start to finish. Even in the later seasons after she and Ron got together there wasn't too much different in regards to her personality.
Sorry if this sounded kind of ranty, I just wish studios would understand what makes a character interesting. I love the MCU, but their recent female centric films like Captain Marvel and Black Widow just missed the mark. WandaVision was a fun time though, I still like her. But yeah, hope maybe, possibly, perhaps someone in Hollywood will show them how it's done and soon.
My favorite character from the 2000s Justice League shows was Hawkgirl. I loved her no nonsense sincerity. She was a tough tomboy who took John Stewart to a space bar for their first date during xmas where she chugged alien grog, belched, then started a bar brawl for fun. Angrily berated and fought John's fellow lanterns for not standing by his side during a trial. All this without making her overpowered or go full butch. Her sassy confidence and passion in combat were inspiring. And so the events of "Starcrossed" were particularly sad.
@@darwinxavier3516 Oh yeah. She was pretty awesome too. The 2000s in general had some really awesome female characters. One I'll always love is Gwen from Ben 10. You see her go from Ben's bratty cousin who constantly belittles him to a magic user who supports and even helps out during fights. Then in Alien Force you see them both evolve, having matured in the 5 years since the original series.
@@AshXXMayftw Strong female characters now a days I feel is just an excuse for the writers to be lazy with their stories.
Well, in some cases you can have 1 but they NEED 2 if your gonna have a character super powerful. Most action movies like taken or die hard have likeable characters that if you consider the fact that most of the goons they face are just there as cannon fodder. I'd say these two films is a good example where the character is practically indestructible but regarded as loved by fans of these series.

Even Korea does female characters better, especially Horror movies where the female characters actually struggle a lot before they go badass. Lady Vengeance was awesome, despite the character arguably being more skilled than she should be, she went through a lot of punishment and is socially extremely awkward due to becoming a near psychopath and being stuck in prison for years.
It's not that hard to make a flawed female character that is still awesome.
The director of Lady Vengeance was also the director of Old Boy, another vengeance themed movie, where the main character (male) also is more skilled then he probably should be, so it could just be a trope of the director.

Actually, Wanda (scarlet witch) has been considered one of the strongest mutants for a long time. Comic readers that familiar with the house of M storyline know how she just said, "no more mutants" and Thanos snapped all mutants and/or their powers.
That storyline was also made before marvel was known for making incredibly liberal comics at the expense of the writing.
Scarlet Witch is the one character I don't understand the Mary Sue claims for. Wandavision is about how Wanda went emotionally overboard after the Death of Vision. Even if we are to ignore the fact she had brainwashed people, delving into total escapism is still a pretty unhealthy trait. Granted I'm not trying to victim blame here, from what we know it makes sense why Wanda did what she did, it just that if she was really supposed to be a flawless female character the core focus of the story would probably not be Wanda's trama and mistakes.

You guys want an example of a GOOD strong female character? Look at Blaze the Cat. In her debut game Sonic Rush, she was an incredibly strong fighter on par with Sonic, but she did have one weakness. She was distrustful of others and felt like she needed to do everything herself. She even states that her pyrokinesis actively hurts those around her which is another reason she doesn't want friends, but over the course of the game, Cream almost convinces her that having friends isn't bad and that having to rely on others doesn't paint you as weak. The last thing it took was Sonic beating the shit out of Blaze when she tried to attack him out of being angry that he wouldn't back off from her mission. Now the only question is how is it that Sega, the company that most people regard as a giant screw-up, is capable of making a good female character, yet Disney, who is possibly the biggest and most successful company alive today, keeps making Mary Sues?
Because they think twitter represents paying customers
Well, blaze's game wasn't the best in story, and the characters acted quite a bit out of character. And besides that, in later years, like in the comic and fan stuff she became quite a bit (not fully) a Mary sue. And she became personality wise unlikeable for me outside of those things, so imo she is not the best example of a well written strong female character. Also I heard Sega themselves have let people down, and the new comic, besides some obvious Tumblr designed styled sonic characters, I heard have been getting woke and the writers have said some controversial stuff, which is a downer for me. A better good sonic female character, outside of the satam crew (Means prior to the comics satam crew), good ones are sa1 Amy, Cosmos from sonic X, a certain nights knock off in a sonic puzzle game, and some may even say shade. Better (more or less) written female sonic characters (again, not certain about shade).
@@zionthedragon8866 The characters were acting out of character? How? I’ve played Sonic Rush, and everyone seemed to be acting like they usually do. Plus, Blaze had her character arc in that game, and she has since been a side character in later games which is fine since she has no more character development to be had. Also, Sonic X and Chronicles aren’t canon to the main games. As for SA1 Amy, I actually hate that version of Amy. She’s such a brat and just your stereotypical damsel in distress. Yes, she convinces Gamma to be a better person, but for the majority of the game, she’s so rude to Sonic for not being with her and forcing him to protect her bird even though it’s abundantly clear that he doesn’t want to. SA2 Amy is a little better, but Heroes Amy threw all of that out the window with her forcing Sonic to marry her shenanigans. This is why I actually prefer Modern Amy because she’s matured a great deal and isn’t an annoying little brat that throws a tantrum whenever Sonic doesn’t agree to do something with her.
@@tonysonic456 they were always saying constant stuff about being your friends, and forcing friendship on blaze when they just met, the only one who is more or less in character is cream and sonic. Blaze still could use more character growth from being modern shadow, she is basically critical judgemental shadow toned down slightly and very inconsiderate at time (I played rush 2, and watched all of rush 1's cutscenes.), Except she doesn't swear, uses guns, or get as violent as shadow, but is more or less a form of edgelord but a royal one at that. Really, SA2 "marry me or I will leave you here in jail" & "I am going to force you to marry me sonic" while somehow mistaking SHADOW in BROAD daylight Amy is somehow better than Amy that starts out caring for others and stops thinking about sonic 24/7 and learns how to stand for herself and not rely on others Amy is, by your admission, WORSE than SA2? well, no offense, but as seeing this and the rush poor plotted excuse (just becuase you debut in something doesn't excuse anything, and just because you show up more in the series doesn't mean you are a good character) for blaze, and everything else, it makes me believe there is no sound argument to be gained here. Also, just because it's not canon to the games, which irioncially satam characters do show up in one game, and if you try to argue they aren't canon because they are not modern, but modern games like forces which remove all humans which are important to shadow's BG are canon because "duh modern", then no real argument can be made with someone who can not logically reason this out and lives in their own precieved reality of the sonic universe where only select modern games they choose can be counted as SONIC material. Not even if the person was talking about anything sonic related. Also fyi silvr debuted in sonic 06, the non-canon games, yet silver has returned in many other games with different origins but still same personality and usually has a simple arc, so if a character from non-canon game, especially one now connected to blaze somehow, can be called canon just not their Games, then shade definitely can be counted too. Heck even though non canon, they still use 06 as a way to describe silver and his growth by some people. So yes, I can use shade, and since sonic X, which was BASED on the adventure series minus the last season, is sonic stuff that semi a tie in, I can count Cosmo too. Just because you don't like or dislike a character doesn't prevent them for being or not being a mart-sue, which I feel in some areas, not ALL areas, blaze is A Mary sue.
Also, before anyone makes the dumb argument, no power itself does NOT make someone a Mary sue, it's the circumstances around them that does. So don't try to use sonic as a example.
Anyways, like I said, IMO, better examples then blaze.
@@tonysonic456 also modern Amy is still the same as sa2 and heroes Amy? The only recent game that she wasn't really was the garbage game that was forces, and THAT MAY become un-canon soon from what I heard.
The Rey and captain marvel part just made me think imagine someone actually using them for power scaling now that would be funny to see Rey and captain marvel fought because if how much the writers power scaled these two to stupid limits

The thing is Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters can actually work if you build the world around them while also being careful not to make them the centre of attention (plenty of side characters in anime and videogames fit this role well).
However as soon as you make them the MC you're narratively fighting a losing battle and if you make the world revolve around them, then the story is pretty much beyond repair at that point, imo.
All Might is an excellent example of a Gary Stu done right if you ask me. He's stupidly powerful, liked by almost everyone...but he's serves as a plot hook, side character and mentor to the mc.
I mean there is always Saitama. He is the definition of that yet OPM is one of the most popular manga in history.
The Great Old Ones for example.
Another good one is Medaka Kurokami from medeka box as she's made to be an Mary Sue type character and actually explores and decontructs those points in the series.
Ainz from overlord is a good one as well. The show is more about his effects on the world them him.
Well that and the show blatently saying he has no idea what he is doing and just billshitting through it all
Remember when Ripley realized she was only scared she wasn't as badass as she believed she was and then breathed fire all over the Xenomorphs?
Don't worry, it'll happen in the inevitable remake where the media say "toxic men will be terrified of her".
If Kevin Smith kept quiet throughout the whole scenario, people would have been less upset.
If he was upfront about what the show really was, then people would have been fine with it existing.
As a creator myself making my own series and have done so a bit in the past, if I were to make a female of any caliber they usually do have a well written story and back story that matter. Sure they're not there to be just eye candy, but all serve a purpose and all characters male and female have their own inner flaws to work with. Problem with most media today it's like girls don't have flaws that they have to build a character into of, that they're just perfect and or they get mad over stupid reasons that can easily be "talked out" with the character. And then some push it beyond standards to where now it's all just female leads, sure it's okai to have all females in a show MLP did it, and if done well you can pull it off and make a great series, but if each one doesn't have a "flaw" and they're just looked at as "Oh you just have to believe in yourself because you're not pushing yourself hard enough" that's the opposite of a good story teller and character development. it's literally teaching us woman it's okai to have all your flaws just push harder, while men can change every little thing about themselves. It's a stupid mindset to have. I'm a 90s kid and all of this new day n age stuff makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. I barely even watch t.v anymore nor do I even watch movies anymore. I'm uh....busy bee lol.
So I have 3 series I'll be working on.
my SAWTOB series which is for 3D modeling,
a lil mini series to learn animation
and then actually one of my first series I ever made but turned into a manga web-comic instead of a novel that they once were
and since i have dubbers, I may have them dub over it and pay them for it. They're wonderful at it. I may have to hire more though lol. there's a lot of characters in the series.
But currently a boss to 3 and hired 2 concept artists in the past
I take my work very seriously ^^

That’s what the left only care about nowadays, it’s always the FUCKING Twitter clout for the tyranny of the fucking weakest of the batch which really piss me off the most, (am I right here or?)
Yes. But they forget that Mary Sue can really be presented creatively, remember at least One Punch-Man, a hilarious anime and interesting in that the hero is tired of his ideality and cares more about his everyday life. Mary Sue is used as a cheap screenwriting tool to work less on the characters and to please the most noisy modern "progressives".
Well the thing is saitama isn’t really a Mary Sue because he has the flaw of being dumb as a brick
Well despite being unbeatable Saitama does struggle. He struggles with feelings of depression and emptiness because he wants to have a good fight but since he’s so powerful all his fights end in one punch and that frustrates him. Plus he’s not exactly the brightest bulb in the room so he’s late or arrives just in the nick of time. Plus not to mention him struggling to beat King in Video games who just demolished Saitama (in games) drives him up the wall which is hilarious and the public hates him
Lol Mary Sue is someone that has no flaws and is loved by everyone no matter what, and Saitama is clearly isn't. Public hates him for "taking" other people credit and don't believe in his power. He's not very smart and is clearly depressed.
Saitama isn't a Mary Sue, though. Just because a character is powerful doesn't mean they're Sues.
To me, what keeps a character like Saitama from being a Mary Sue is that OPM isn't about "oh look, Saitama is so perfect and cool isn't he just so awesome?" A character being overpowered doesn't inherently make them a Mary Sue, and a character being flawed doesn't inherently make them not a Mary Sue. Saitama isn't a Mary Sue because OPM is about using his overpowered status for comedic purposes, and for parodying overpowered anime protagonists, not as an excuse to stroke the character's cock.
It’s sucks that they wasted Ultimate Nick Fury’s design since he was really really cool in the Ultimate universe
Yeah the designs was one of the few good things to come out of the ultimate universe (alongside Miles), the rest of it? not so much...
I didn't knew that Nick Fury was originally white for a long time because I first saw him in Marvel movies and Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
@@mrsejd3446 the black Nick Fury is originally from the ultimate universe( marvel took a lot from the ultimate universe for the MCU

It really depends on the story, superior iron man, god slayer thor, cosmic spiderman
Its impossible to truly pin down power with marvel
@@devinthompson7143 Base Avengers, she is. If we’re going that path, Doctor Strange is the most powerful. (Pre-Retcon Strange, who toyed with Abstracts and was almost equal to the Beyonder)
HOM isn't these same as regular wanda
In defense of Wanda in the comics her power of reality is second only to the living tribunal
This is quite true, the main issue is that... she's still not a good or well written character. You can write super powerful characters well a few examples
Omni Man (invincible) The T-1000 (Terminator). The Genie (Aladdin). Darth Vader. Dr. Manhattan. Beatrix Kiddo (Kill Bill). Ellen Ripley (Alien). Vazquez (AlienS). Original Mulan (Mulan). Sarah Connor (Terminator).
These are all (in their own universes) insanely powerful beings or characters and each of them are written well and their goals, personalities, and powers all make sense in the context of their worlds. Wanda, who we have seen to be powerful in the comics is more like a blank slate for women to imprint on like some kind of generic Arnold Schwarzenegger action hero character from 80s and 90s Action Flicks. They are fun but they rarely give up good characters and drive they're merely there to serve as a vessel to live out your power fantasy for an hour and a half, this is where Wanda falls in, in my own opinion. I won't lie I didn't get to deep into Wandavision before I checked out and went to something else, just not my kind of show.
Not really but close
Pre-retcon Beyonder: I doubt that.
The reason they wanted to make Wanda more powerful then Dr.Strange is because from the comics she did have that potential and at one point used that power to make most mutants in the world loose all their power. But all of those have build up, some times people hate the word ;but in the comics', however if they didn't use some of the key points from the comics (Thanos getting the infinity stones) but not the same reason it makes them seem stupid (Thanos not using the stones to make everyone more aware of the resources they have and conserve more).
What they want is the same effect but without the same cause that well...caused it.
Don’t forget about how some people use the argument that women can’t be sexy and be strong. Let’s see, how about a strong sexy female protagonist like Samus? She’s mainly a mute through the games (besides Other M) showing how much of a badass through body language and gameplay.
Not a good character and is more of a Mary Sue is both Elie and Abby. Abby comes into the story out of nowhere and she’s already strong, kills Joel and has a change of heart until Ellie kills everyone. Elie was a good character in the first game but drops in the second because she’s hell bent on revenge which doesn’t end up that good in the end and she suffers the most in the end.
I just don’t like this mentality that we need gay couples or have a trans person thrown into whatever media there is and say it’s for them. Why not make shows that does cater for them and not ruin pre-exsisting media for them?
Im not a mega fan of the second last of us. But I do however love Ellies character. Not necessarily her choices but her development throughout the games as well as her realism as being a teenage girl in an apocalypse. Still having moments of fun and childish humor yet being able to take things seriously in dire moments. Another reason I love Clementine from the Walking Dead.
Strong and sexy character?
Police Girl from Hellsing.
But seriously, Victoria Seras is a killing machine. Bitch offed entire CORRIDOR full of nazi-vampires and their boss once she have awoken. At this point she was not only unarmed. She had her goddamned hand cut off before. She grew some eldrich shit out of the stump and used it instead along her healthy limb.
Before that she had to kill a hundred or so of those motherlovers (guestimation) and that's after she downed a zeppelin with dual-wielded canons.
That nun with a katana from the same movie is also a badass.
And you know who is the biggest badass in the series? It's not an Alucard, ancient vampire that's pretty much a god of death and insanity. It's not father Anderson with balls harder than goddamned black hole. It's not Walter C. Dornez, a butler who can decimate a ghoull (super-zombie) army with some metallic threads, dude that became a WW2 vet when he was a kid. No. It's Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates van Hellsing, leader of Hellsing organisation and the only one tough enough that Alucard decided to SERVE her. She didn't even flinch when her car was surrounded by the vampires or section XII. Calling her tough as steel is a disrespect.

The worst aspect of this way of writing "strong female characters" is that it basically tries to make women as manly as possible which misses the whole point of making them female.
Ellen Ripley's whole character arc between Alien and Aliens was literally a working class mom who gets caught in a horror scenario, which gives her intense PTSD. Has to learn about her child dying. Then she adopts a new child and goes full on momma bear to save them. What is so wrong with that?!?
With the "Female Jedi" thing in Star Wars, they already had a good woman Jedi character who was a main character, who was strong, and absolutely flawed.
Friggin Ahsoka Tano who is STILL one of my favorite Star Wars characters.
It's like
"Hey we were successful with one female lead let's do this but worse."
KOTOR II: Kreia and the Exile. One is a Sith Lord (technically, former Sith Lord but still 100% a villain, it's complicated) who trained the juggernaut known as Revan, manipulates everyone - even the main character- to serve her own ends, and is able to slaughter Jedi Masters outright when she doesn't simply break them with her words. The other is a Jedi Knight who defeated a world-eating abomination and is such an incredible leader that other Jedi assume it must be some insane Force power when in fact its simply her moral character and natural charisma- oh, and she can theoretically cause the death of the Force itself if she's not careful.
But because Star Wars incel fanboys just can't stand Strong Female Characters you'll *never* see anyone praising that game. *Cough* sarcasm *Cough*.
Remember when I ask what was first thought of Mary Sue and I said Rey from Star Wars. Well, I take it back. Sure, Rey is an example of Mary Sue but in my thoughts, it's live action Mulan.
I watched and I hate it. She lacks of character development, being an Overpowered for no reason, and get away from being punish after being exposed in front of soldiers. There is no love interest, no sidekick Musha and cricket (being replace with the Phoenix), and no sing-along.
I prefer the animated movie instead, it's well-written, caring, and interesting of asian culture.
live action mulan honestly has no reason to exist
One other thing, the phoenix didnt even did anything, it just appeared, posed, and got away flying.
It literally dont maked a difference in the film, it not talked how mulan was suposed to act, neither protect she but mulan doing it alone in the end.
It just appeared, posed, and got away, like whut
The animated movie is beautiful, and makes Mulan an great female character, with flaws and development... but the movie is shit
It also has cool songs, Make a Man out of you is still a banger over 30 years later.
I don't think having no love interest is a Mary Sue quality.
I'm glad you touch on this topic. I've been really put off by all these Overly Powered Mary Sue's. I thought anime had it bad with Mary sues but damn I open my mind and seen MORE Mary Sue's.
Where did the creativity in female character go?
Having a Mary Sue tells young girls that they are flawless and nothing could go wrong for them making them think that everything can go there way
All they had to do was be honest about what He-man was about. Teela was a character from the original show who was well liked by the people who watched MOTU as kids iirc. But they just had to kill He-man and turned the world into generic post apocalyptic magic bad world instead of the bright and colorful world of the show.
I wouldn't mind female protagonists if, I don't know, they were portrayed to actually cool or at least had some depth to their character instead of "I am the best because female". This is the exact same reason SJWs like to complain about with macho-man type characters, yet they made it worse because having flaws to a female character or at least having a personality is somehow misogynist.
The flaws are what make good characters good. They just don’t realize that now.
And trying to overcome said flaws
They realize, they just don't care. The biggest mistake people keep making with this stuff is thinking the elite are all just retarded. They are not, they know what they are doing, it's just not for our benefit.
@@MALICEM12 exactly, it's all apart of their bigger agenda and social engineering on the audience. I miss when movies where a escape from reality with no political agendas being forced down our throats

They just have to be *relatable interesting badass stronghearted characters* to be relatable interesting badass stronghearted characters, no matter what they look like!
If only the sequel series took notes off the Clone Wars, Rey could’ve been on the same level as Ahsoka who’s still nowhere near being a Mary Sue.
The only modern show/movie I watched where the whole "powerful main character that is female" thing was done well is She-ra and Amphibia. (No Owl House cause Luz doesn't win cause she is powerful, she wins cause of creativity.)
Also, edit: Smoke Em Out Struggle is a perfect choice for an outro song.
Fun fact captain marvel in comics was accidentally given no soul (this is canon) so to set the scene, ghost rider has a move called pence stare, this inflicts all the harm you've ever done directly onto the soul. With 2 expectations, if you don't have a soul, or if you feel no remorse for the harm you done (so characters like the punisher). In recent comics the ghost rider tries to use this move against captain marvel and she resist this (mind this is right after she killed Iron man in the Civil War 2 comic line which makes it even better) marvel keeps trying to buff these characters and it ends up failing. I mean you can say or buff all you want but dp is easily the most powerful marvel character. He could literally one shot wanda or captain marvel. Not only that but captain marvel is one of the weaker characters, hell if Tony was trying to kill her, he could, with the mk51. Hell thor would wipe the floor with her, HES A LITERALLY FUCKING GOD, and both comics and movies has gone toe to toe with thanos with the stones. And don't get me started on when he has his armor, then you have ghost rider. Who can only be killed with holy weapons, and can eat souls. now wanda is still op, but most x men characters are, ie jean grey, dp, or cable. All with multiverse ending strong powers. Marvel keeps on buffing these girl characters when they need to focus on making them characters, don't make them even stronger, try and balance them out. Ill use dc as an example. Superman is ofc hella stronge, BUT he's weak to magic. A common thing in DC. So yea he's super strong, he has a common weakness to balance him out and overall makes him a better character
Deadpool just saw the stare as 'best of deadpool' and loved it.. he's immune, too.

Sounds like Amy Rose in IDW sonic comic as Mary's Sue. Doesn't have leadership skill or try to be like Princess Sally's clone.
I think people would mind less if they didn't kill off their male characters in such terrible displays of the woke agenda. There's nothing in any of these projects that say you have to cripple or kill your male characters just to make your females look better in comparison.
Imagine for example the sequel trilogy. Instead of killing off Luke, have Luke and Rey fight alongside each other like how Anakin and Ahsoka did in The Clone Wars. Both Luke and Rey fight to their full potential, displaying how far along they are, and gradually, Rey displays strength that can equal Luke's, possibly even surpassing as it is a new generation of Jedi, that's something that actually happens. For the ending, have Luke and Rey fight Palpatine together, Luke sacrifices his life to defeat the emperor just like his father before him, and passes down the Skywalker Legacy to Rey in a satisfying conclusion for the Skywalker name, and leave it open for a continuation that focuses on Rey.
Has anyone ever mentioned Noi and Nikaido yet from Dorohedoro?
Those two have the most satisfying fight scenes to watch and great male friendships.
Noi is jacked, but she at least resembles a woman. I can safely say that I find her rather attractive.

Exactly!
if only good character was considered by power levels
I feel like the people in the comments of this video are missing somethings about what makes a character a Marysue..
A marysue is a character that is badly written, breaks the universe they exist in, whether that be overpowered or something else, and is in general not entertaining. Saitama from one punch man isn't a marysue, he's literally just a powerful character, same could be said for goku, or any other incredibly powerful character, because an op character is not a badly written one, its simply apart of the plot and dynamic they have with the rest of the characters in the plot. This should be common sense but I'm honestly surprised by some of the comments I've found so far that equate power scale with bad writing, which is really really stupid. Captain marvel is a bad character because she's badly written, unentertaining, and in some parts doesn't entirely makes sense and jumbled the plot with her bad writing, its not so much that she's op as it is that the way she her power was written, that makes it bad.
Yeah, if high power scale meant bad writing, Shonen anime would be a laughing stock of a genre; however, to my knowledge, it's one of the most successful, if not the most, of the manga/anime genres around. (It definitely is in the West.)
That's why I turned to anime with characters that are badass and are well written like Guts, Jotaro, Thorfinn, or Revy
And women that actually are feminine and have their own issues to struggle with and overcome.
I think the only time I LIKED a Mary Sue character was Medaka from Medaka Box. She was overpowered and perfect in appearance, but she has no idea how normal people function because she has been perfect for too long. SHE was the cause of many conflicts because she doesn't understand that other people aren't as strong as her, leading to her friends getting hurt and Medaka having to grow emotionally and slowly learn the weaknesses of others and help them overcome it.
Medaka Box is so criminally-underrated. I am happy that there are people other than me in this comments section who like that show.

Yeah, JAR definitely missed the importance of shows like “I Love Lucy.” By our standards they’re weak in character and development, but at the time it was a new type of trope to combat the “father knows best” trope.
Shows definitely need to be looked at in their context and if the characters were entertaining if a little bland by modern standards, doesn’t mean they didn’t mean something when they first aired.

I wish Finn from the sequels got more development he was a very interesting character in the force awakens
I understood that Cyberchase reference, and I appreciate it.
Palpatine is a main character and is able to use force lightning, but he is one of the main antagonists, not one of the main protagonists. However he had years of practice while Rhea just knows it for no reason. Heck, my fan-fic character, a Trandoshan (lizard people that are typically though not always rivals with Wookies) jedi who practiced both sides of the force in a long abandoned temple ruin on Dagobah (the swamp planet Yoda seems to be from) knows force fire (similar to force lightning but uses flames rather then electricity) but it took almost a decade of practice before getting full control, and even then there are issues from time to time.
Plot twist, JAR is actually the biggest Mary Sue
Imagine if this turns into another Pokemon drama.
When you take the most powerful female in your universe, who has real flaws and grapples with killing millions (Jean Gray), and shove her in a shitty flop of a movie, you're left with bad writers using old characters.
If the media could please portray us women as PEOPLE, not fucking goddesses with no flaws, that'd be great.
To be honest, as a writer of stories/fanfiction types, it's a recurrent thing in my stories to have some social themes and even create new characters in a pre-existant fictional universe but, at least, the protagonist that comes from the source material is still the protagonist in my stories based about it and also, i tried to make changes that can work in the universe in question.
For exemple: In my reboot of the first episode of the 10th season of Fairly Oddparents ( The Big Fairy Share Scare ), it reprises some of the elements of the original episode but the big change of this is Chloe's personnality and characterization. If in the original episode, Chloe is a energetic girl but had little or even nothing in terms of backstory, personnality and flaws, in my reboot, she can be energetic some time, she can brag a little about her kindness and all until everything changes when Timmy with Poof discovers that Chloe hides something and this something.... She's Orphan ( Since her 2 years, she'd to grow up too fast without the presence of her mom and dad because they were too busy to take care of her and then, one day, her parents are dead during a rescue trip and that news broke Chloe completely, leading to the fact she's hiding it ). That means that, not only the fact that she can say and show all the brag, kindness and all that was overexagerating ( Mary sue tropes, if you want ) is just a disguise for her to hide the fact that she's a miserable kid and that fits with one line that Jorgen says in the original episode as for my reboot: " There's a reason for everything". And that gives a new dynamic to the friendship between Timmy and Chloé that shows that both of them are miserable kids but not in the same way.
So... Your thoughts about this example ?
While im not a fan of the secret identity trope, a character being mad you didn't tell them your secret identity is proof they shouldn't know.
Just imagine She-Ra died in the first episode of her show and get replaced by a man ^^
If you go into writing a plot with the thought of “alright, we need a strong female lead” you’ve already failed. Imo you should go into it with “alright, we need a strong character that isn’t a paragon of anything and everything” gender should be the near last thing considered unless it’s absolutely vital to the character, I.E female who has a main rival that belittles her for being a woman, or male who is torn down for showing his weak side, as he’s supposed to be an Uber manly stereotype 24/7, stuff like that
I can’t entirely agree. If you’re trying to be believable, male and female characters will be at least slightly different even if given the exact same background. Unless your story has zero character development, ignoring a basic part of a character’s identity is not a good idea.
Might isn't the problem, the problem with Sues is that the plot bends over backwards and destroys the rules of the fictional reality to cater to them all the time.
Oh no, JAR is turning into Frieza.
No... He's turning into Imperfect JAR!
Damn, mulan looking like a SNACC in that thumbnail.
Being too powerful could be a flaw, it's just that they don't want their mary sues to be weak in any way. For example, being so powerful that you can't actually control your powers to the point you become a danger to everyone around you, your character development would be to learn how to harness your power, or in the case of Saitama being unable to enjoy fighting to the point you become apathetic.
Raven for an example she's more OP than Superman Flash Shazam WW Aquaman Cyborg and Batman etc she's warped Azarath into a cursed dimension after her birth immediately and the sky turned black by her demonic presence in the comics and destroyed her first planet as 10 years old and has a speed beyond Superman and probably base Flash , she reached the heaven itself which is a superior feat to flash outrunning teleportation and darkseid reaching the source wall etc her soulself is a doorway to heaven and hell and she is immortal banned from the heaven and after life by the presence himself even hell didn't dare to claim her soul so she just kept wandering around she regenerated not from an atom but a soul ,basically a female Lobo and can pass immortality and death just like the main man, she's even stronger than Hela due to consistently being above powerful hell lords like Belial, Etrigan and Neron etc
Raven is so stupidly strong, she's a 3 dimensional being, that's why she's so OP, but at the same time ,she's a well written character, they put her on the side and focused on her character development and humanized her, she's extremely flawed and relatable but grew well and ended up as Shazam's teacher now and his mother figure in future state and 25 years old.
So you can make an OP character but well written as long you play it well and I think they pulled it very smartly with Raven.
People need to learn how to write good female characters, and unfortunately, no one in Hollywood knows how.
They think that perfect and all powerful female character = good, while charismatic and flawed females ones as dangerous and mysoginistic.
I don’t get why female characters have to be so basic now, I’ve been watching older stuff recently like Batman The Brave and The Bold, and I realize they made interesting female characters in shows like that, while writing plots that showed their weaknesses and how they bounce off of others who were more capable than them. But now it’s just, let’s kill off or replace every male character with strong female characters who don’t struggle with any thing that is too major for them! Might I remind you all both Superman and Supergirl were sometimes in fear of how dangerous their powers could be especially if they were tricked or put into a situation where they showed no mercy towards their friends or the innocent!
Well, Scarlet Witch was always pretty powerful (in comics she even create child to herself and Vision from... basically nothing and strong wish for a child).
tela was in love with heman and thought it was her responsibility to protect adam. tela and radnor were pissed because had they known adam and heman were the same person they wouldn't have library risked his life . yes they both over reached in an uncharacteristic way remorse should have been the primary emotion. but it still makes sense
