For clarity, the reason that image bricked some Android phones isn't the picture itself, but its color space. Since the picture is RGB, and Android 10 specifically uses sRGB (but can't convert RGB to sRGB), using the image will soft-lock the device. Anything running Android 11 shouldn't have the issue, as it supports non-standard color spaces.

From what i remember, nuclear Gandhi is in the first civilization game, but it requires such a very specific set of circumstances, that is unlikely to be encountered a normal gameplay.
The way it was explained to me is basically that characters have a sliding scale from pacifism to violence, which can be raised or lowered depending on certain actions the player takes. As a pacifist, Gandhi is pretty low on the Spectrum, but his pacifism can still be lowered depending on certain player actions. If you take a very specific set of actions, you can make it so that Gandhi score is so low that it should (in theory) become a negative number, but because the game can't process negative numbers, it Loops back around to the highest number on the Spectrum, functionally making Gandhi hyper-violent. Basically, the computer can't count negative numbers, so once it gets under one, it just starts at 10 and counts back down again.
That being said, because it requires such specific things to work, how common it was has been greatly exaggerated, so it's fairly unlikely that most players ever encountered it.
I don't know anything about code, so this was probably a horrible explanation,
Edit: also, with the Pope disappearing video, it looks like the video is just missing a few frames. I wonder if they accidentally got edited out or the recording glitched resulting in that happening.

    • @paigemosher8697

I'm not a Civilization player myself, but it was introduced (unintentionally) in the first game as a glitch, only to be brought back as a proper feature in later games since the fans LOVED it.
But yeah, your explanation is pretty accurate from what I know.

FWIW: the Y2K thing was actually real. It mainly affected older systems which most people would have upgraded from by that point anyway - but if you've ever worked in a library or in Payroll, for example, you'll know that some systems never get updated. Fortunately there was a big push to update all those systems *before* 2000, so most of them were already protected from any potential ill effect by the time it came around. But yeah, for the average home PC at the time, it was never going to be a big deal unless they were running on, like, Windows minus-1000.

I think a great example of a Theoretical Glitch would be Stryder7x and his rather infamous "Hitting This Block For 416 Years Crashes Paper Mario."
In short, there's a block in the game that will give you items when you items when you hit it 1 time, 10 times, and 100 times. If you're insane enough to hit the block 4,294,967,296 times, which assuming you were doing it non-stop frame perfectly each time, would take around 36.3 years, it causes an integer overflow, making the counter in the code tracking how many times you hit the block reset to 0, and spawning a new block. If you continue hitting it and spawning new blocks, eventually there will be so many of them that it starts to slow down the game's framerate. He calculated, with the framerate drops included, how long you would have to keep hammering until the game eventually crashes.
Final number for when the framerate hits 0 was 416.795 *years*

the skyrim freezing off a mountain thing is in part because the "Frozen" effect simply is the same as the paralysis effect with some unique textures. Paralysis works in such a way that the effect cannot be removed from the player until they're on a solid surface for a certain amount of time. To make sure that this works, paralysis negates fall damage. So with the frost effect, you have no fall damage, and a large stretch of open air- so the player character just keeps racking up momentum as skyrim's physics engine doesn't have a cap on character momentum.

    • @darthdemented
      @darthdemented 5 місяців тому

I always assumed the flailing around during this glitch was because the game was trying to call in ragdoll but you were frozen so it couldn't. So pretty much a divide by zero situation. Hilarious glitch though.

The wallpaper bricked the phones because of one pixel being a color or light level that certain android phones couldn't understand and it bricked them, the problem could've been fixed with a single line of code so there is a pretty good chance that the glitch is fixed and the picture is safe to set as your background.

The “Modding games so they glitch” is probably referring to stuff like Vinesauce Vinny’s corruptions. In which he basically uses a program or is sent some that completely glitch certain things in the games. Some of them are really funny, some are so crazy they literally create like entire new game mechanics. One of my favourites is a corruption on GTA San Andreas that turned every piece of text into the word “Africa” and when I say “every piece of text” I mean EVERY PIECE OF TEXT. Like even the controller’s layout words were changed to “Africa”

I found a glitch in a Stardew Valley mod that I admit to exploiting. You have to have the "alternative butcher mod" that let's you grow plants that produce meat. if you go to pick either the beefvine, rabbitvine, deervine, muttonvine, or other "vine" that has the possibility of giving you other items aside from the meat (leather, felt, antlers) and your inventory is full, the plant will just spit out infinite bonus items. the best to do this with is deervine because you can get antlers and deer leather from one plant, and antlers sell for some serious coin. when I find a plant that spits out gold star quality deer leather and antlers, I'll spend the whole day gathering. I only used it enough to get the Return Septor though. 2 mil for that thing is so annoying

I can kinda help claify the wavedashing entry. It's not a glitch because during every aspect of the technique, the game's mechanics and physics are working exactly as intended. First, you are allowed to perform any aerial action the exact frame your character leaves the ground after their initial jump squat frames, and that includes air dodging. Second, air dodge has an initial burst of speed applied to it that slows down as the air dodge plays out. Landing during the initial frames of an air dodge will revert you to your landing state as you are obviously no longer in the air. Thirdly, speed vectors and multipliers are a big part of how Melee's physics engine works, it applies to movement, getting hit, blocking attacks, etc. So when you land from an air dodge the game hasn't forgotten all that speed from the dodge, and it transfers it to grounded movement. This is why optimal wavedashing has you airdodge as horizontally as possible to get the most horizontal ground movement without going airborne. Some characters slide further in a wavedash than others (Luigi slides the most) because they have a lower traction multiplier, which counteracts the momentum from the air dodge less. It's an exploit of multiple aspects of Melee's system mechanics, but everything is working as intended. There are glitches in Melee that do crop up in competitive play that are sometimes used to ones advantage however, like the infamous invisible ceiling glitch.
By the way, the new Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl game will in fact have wavedashing in it as a core movement mechanic.

Nuclear Gandhi is a big one on this list because not because he is known as a pacifist and he could go nuclear, it’s the fact it was VERY EASY to turn him into a nuclear enthusiast. What's something even more interesting about the Minecraft Farlands is that it's so far away that the game's engine has a harder time to calculate the coordinates the further you go, and it ends up at a point where placed blocks are completely misaligned from the grid and if you keep going, eventually the game will no longer be able to calculate block hitboxes correctly and you'll just fall through the world into the void. ibxtoycat made a really interesting video about the Farlands a while back.

That Farlands are actually not removed, Mojang couldn't figure out how to get rid of them, so all they did was just put a big blue border, that you can't walk beyond, and if you try to bypass it via an ender pearl glitch or something, your screen will just start turning hues of red and you will take void damage until you fall out of the world and become space dust. But if you use a mod to remove the border, you can actually still see the Farlands today.
And some better explanation for why the Farlands happen is because of something called the 32-bit integer limit. In binary, the maximum number that can be represented is 2,147,483,647, and if anything requires a number higher (which it shouldn't because that is an incomprehensibly massive number), the computer, for whatever reason, rolls the number back into the negatives until it reaches the integer limit again. And even though this should never happen, in the case of a game that claims to have "infinite" world generation, it is technically possible. Despite its claims, Minecraft is not equipped to handle this roll-over, no software is, so if you were to travel out to 2,147,483,647 blocks in any given direction, all the way to the roll over, the generation just stops and completely f*cks itself up, and you have the Farlands. But good luck getting there, I can't even say that number.
But go over to Ant Venom's channel, he has a video all about it, and he did it believe it or not.

cmiiw but the reason why the minus world bug has different worlds for different regions is the way the data is formatted, in the cartridge releases, we got the looping 6-2 level for the minus world, however on disk releases (aka the japanese version released after the original cart version) they had to change the way the game, levels, whatever were formatted to work with the disk format which in turn made the minus world become the different level with the water physics. dont ask me why theres levels beyond world 8 to 255 (yes, theres 255 worlds), probably something related to the game mixing properties (ex. existing levels, physics, entities, idk) but im too smooth brained to really understand this

The wavedashing thing is an glitch that people in the staff knew about and intentionally did not fix, making it an exploit. I think I remember that the first person to mention it was Masahiro Sakurai, so yes, but actually no.

On my old gameboy color if I turned it off and on really fast for a few minutes everything looked like it had a sepia filter on it. I used to do it all the time when I played my Looney Toones game. My partner is really into video games and he was showing my recordings of glitches he and his friend experienced playing this cop game, can't remember the name of the game or what the glitches are because all I remember is how cute he looked when he was excitedly telling me about the video games he plays.

I only have seen a handful of glitches in CP2077 while playing on PC. With one of them being game breaking.
It's not that big of a mess in my experience on PC especially with the newer updates.
Give it a try it's a good game.

kinda surprised that there were no Sonic the Hedgehog entries on the list. I at least expected Sonic '06 to be on there
Tbh I was half-expecting Ashura or Wechnia, both of which are palette swap glitches. Ashura is from Sonic 2's debug mode, where if you placed a lot of waterfalls very sporadically in Emerald Hill zone it'd alter Sonic's color palette to black and green, with blue eyes. Wechnia has a pretty interesting history, but long story short, due to the game Knuckles Chaotix essentially being a reworked version of a scrapped Sonic game called Sonic Crackers, some character data was still left in the files. Sonic was reworked into Mighty, but Tails couldn't really be reworked into any particular character because his character data was so unique compared to the rest. Because of that, there is still a character slot for him (although his name is just displayed as ten asterisks), but due to there not being any sprite data for him in the game, he instead shows up as a glitched-out Knuckles with Mighty's color palette.

Best "out of bounds" glitch, is in Fallout 3. There is a segment in the game where an important character dies alongside others, all are behind glass and inaccessible unless you manipulate the camera on a corner of the room and gain access to three maybe four truly unique items.
May not be out of bounds because it's just camera manipulation, but you are getting access to something outside the map in a sense.
The vault tech mechanic jumpsuit has unique textures, stats and it's only accessible via the camera method.

Cyberpunk is glitchy, but people blew the issues way out of proportion because the hype was so massive. I had few issues in my 80 hours playing.
And good news! The next several titles from Bethsoft are still using the same trash fire of an engine. Except now fanatics have taken to trying to argue that they're not engine issues and "they can just upgrade their existing one".

over the flagpole technically exists, but it's not as easy as simply hopping it. it requires incredibly specific conditions involving getting a koopa to fall out of the world and jumping on it out of bounds.

IIRC the developers knew about wavedash during development but didn't do anything about it. I guess this would lead to some believing that it's not a glitch.
Theoretical glitches I can see as a thing about speedrunning. They theorize that a certain glitch could be possible given either looking through source code, or other known glitches throughout the game. Such as being able to glitch through a certain wall in another part of the game while it's theorized that this glitch could possibly also be used for another wall to possibly save a lot of time.

    - So in regards to the minus levels in Super Mario Bros., they're completely unintentional. The game by its design doesn't take up too much space at all on a NES cartridge and so what's left over is unused data, junk data the game didn't use, and some of that junk data can replicate graphical assets and level structure but lack the intricate programming of the real levels, like being able to transition to another part of the level when entering a pipe or simply ending the level. There's 256 unused "levels" due to 256 being the max integer value on the NES. The Legend of Zelda also has this integer, as Link's wallet maxes out to 256.
    - The Red Ring of Death happened due to excess heat buildup inside the original Xbox 360 and could melt chips on the motherboard if it got hot enough, kickstarting the error. The heat buildup was due to a design flaw, as Microsoft was trying to cater to Asia, specifically Japan with its ergonomic design due to the original Xbox selling badly overseas. The hardware inside in the Xbox was compressed to fit in the case and that's how it happened.

One day I was playing Minecraft creative and in the distance I saw a 2d mountain shaped.. thing. I couldn't tell what it was so I went to it. One I was close enough, I could see that it was every single item and texture, even unused ones, aligned in a kind of triangle shape. I could go through it, but I had no idea what it was or what caused it. My brother was baffled too. Anyone else have this? Has anyone else heard of it?

to explain Nuclear Gandhi (if nobody has)
In the first civilization game Gandhi was programmed to lose 2 agression points each turn
now let's say Gandhi only had a single point of aggression in the next turn since he loses 2 points it's now in the negative which for old computers -1 equals 255 meaning Gandhi would become the most aggressive ruler
Rather than fix it they found it hilarious and decided to keep it as a in joke for years to come

Larry Bundy Jr made a Fact Hunt Special episode that discussed it a while back. I do believe it was “Engage Ridley M*th*r F*ck*r” (you know with the vowels that Susan won’t let me stick in that phrase due to it being foul), and it would actually destroy old NES consoles, but only the top loader or the “toaster” (I forget which one).
