I remember being so blown away after downloading the demo for Lost Planet on the 360 that I had to go out and buy it immediately. The singeplayer was a blast and the multiplayer was even better, I poured countless hours into this game. Def one of the most underrated titles of that era.
And unfortunately GameJolt didn't actually tell you what happened. Instead just using meta critic/critic sales to explain what happened, while not explaining shit. And saying that LP2 had not a whole lot going on gameplay, is BS as a lot of its futures were never done prior too it, let alone in a full coop campaign experience. The depth of customization, the faction map in multi-player that added to an even more expanded and connected network of players. Oh yeah and it's the only game I can too this day think of that allowed its players to merge multiple vehicles together that also offered completely different functions and transforming capabilities. LP2 was on an acid trip regarding its robust and experimental mechanics and content. Definitely a game that critics killed more that its growing LP fans.
I am currently playing the first game on my bday. Own it on the ps3 and the Xbox 360. Remember enjoying the game in 2006. Remember buying lost planet 2 in 2010. I was going through heavy stuff at the time so I kinda had to force myself to play it instead of enjoying it. It was the very first game I decided to get at online. I end up being really really good at it. I would rarely lose. Heck, I’ll even go against clans and win solo. Remember got bored of winning I decided to get into battlefield and bought bfbc1. After a few years after that lost planet 3 came out. I remember being so excited, me and old lost planet players were ready. The old game back again. We all hated the multiplayer. It was so different. Lost planet 1 and 2 are very beautiful bright colorful multiplayer games and lost planet 3 was a dark no contrast game. It was literally almost impossible to see what you’re doing half the time. I only played it for a few days before I quit. I heard the story was decent but the multiplayer was a no good
Lost Planet 2 was far the best! I spent many hours in campaign and some in MP. But the way the game felt the Co-Op mode character outfits I still remember I was one of the desert pirates dressed with the dreadlocks box head. Wish they made something like #2 but a larger scale not like 3 and I haven't played #1. But man we need this back almost like a monster hunter version but Lost Planet 2 timeline or same feeling I had playing it just felt easy and hours on fun replaying mission just wish it got bigger.
A series I still need to play. Started re-playing the Dead Island series which is one of my all time favs; especially with Dead Island 2 around the corner! 😊
I randomly saw a screenshot from the original game and realized I’d completely forgot about this series. I thought ‘what the hell happened to lost planet’ and came on UA-cam and found this video. It’s incredible, no BS all facts and it’s 7 min long. I love this content thank you so much you are wonderful and I love you
These games deserve movies or at least some novels based off of it. There’s so much unexplored lore in this series it’s criminal. It had so much potential to be something great and it was all thrown in the trash..
The 3rd one was better to me because it had a better fleshed out 3rd person design. I really liked the mechanics of using the mech in combination with the player to take out bigger threats like bosses. It really made you feel like a badass.
@@billjones642 idk, LP3 was good. It finally had a solid 3rd person system. If we ever get a reboot, I’d play the hell out of it. It had such a great world.
First game I had tried at the store before I got a 360 as a kid, and it was an amazing game, my parents were even into it, I think I sat in the store for like half an hour lol
I wish they'd do at least proper remasters of 1 and 2. I never even played 2 because it was from what I heard pretty broken on PC for most of its time. Lost Planet 3 was IMO somewhat underrated, the biggest problems of the game is that it's just not really part of the existing LP world. It's neither similar in gameplay nor is it a real sequel but I really enjoyed it once I accepted that. The story was interesting and the gameplay and world felt immersive. It sucks that franchises die like this, when the fault here is definitely on Capcom and/or the management.
I remember just going into college in this game coming out. At this time, I was heavy into the 360 library and remember this one really being touted as a good game. I remember renting it for my college library but don't remember too much more from it. At this time, my friends and I were too busy playing gears of war together online every night or college hoops where this one sort of passed me by. I know it was early in the system's life, but that game was up there with Dead space at the time.
Excellent review, I've had the trilogy in my library for ever, caught my eye when I saw it, but never really drew me in, finally finished it, it was fun.
I see a lot of LP2 love but Lost planet 1 (extreme conditions) was genuinely the best of the series. If you’ve played/seen the last boss fight you know why, literally armoured core combat.
Lost Planet 3 was about the closest I've seen in any game with the Dead Space-style, before the sudden and upcoming explosion we're seeing now with Dead Space Remake, Callisto Protocol, Fort Solis and Negative Atmosphere.
I think people keep sleeping on the fact that literally if you play with someone else you get different cutscenes/are in different parts of the maps for missions
Extreme Condition created the perfect template for future releases, IMO. Lost Planet 2 , according to one of EC's original creator, Keiji Inafune --- I suggest watching GVMERS video for more information, or look up some articles for old interviews --- that one of the reasons Lost Planet 2 underperformed, is because the game was "too Japanese" and "not American enough." Take note: These are his opinions, but he's not entirely wrong. Extreme Condition was a blend of Western shooter philosophies, and Japanese mecha design. A beautiful blend, honestly, and part of why, by Inafune's previous reasoning on LP2, LP3 didn't work out, IMO. Too Western. Not enough fluid mecha action. The VS's were too heavy, and they functioned, at least in terms of the the base rig, more like tools than death machines meant to combat the Akrid. I mean, I get mining operations would have _some_ kind of military escort, but why not give the mining crew some firepower to protect themselves? Why not a gatling gun, or a plasma railgun? Something! Those category-5 Akrids aren't messing around! Furthermore, there's a problem that LP2 and LP3 both share: Visual inconsistency, both between themselves _and_ their origin point. To be clear, there's nothing wrong with art styles changing in certain ways, or a sci-fi world's technology changing in tandem with its setting --- that's fine --- but, in doing so, the sequels have nearly no connection to Extreme Condition. Aside from, maybe, the Waysiders in 2...who, for some reason, are wearing heavy winter jackets in a desert climate...completing invalidating the look altogether...and Gale, on a narrative level, in LP3, who I do not remember doing anything of significance, alongside his faction of snow pirates, which, based on the daughter's design, have almost no connection to their original counterparts, the whole series feels massively disjointed. Visually _and_ narratively, I'd wager. Especially since LP3 is a prequel EC. Not a direct sequel to the events after LP2. If, by the grace of the nine divines, Capcom ever decides to pull Lost Planet out of cold storage, I _desperately_ would like a remake in the current RE Engine, or some engine capable of bringing the full size and scale of EDN III to life. Revise the story --- the foundation for something great is there, but a bad English dub, near-incoherent and rushed plot, and poor character writing didn't do the original narrative any favors --- update the graphics and animations to modern standards --- maybe include some pretty snow physics --- remaster or tweak the original score --- it's just the right amount of orchestral and sci-fi, so I wouldn't touch it too much --- and, maybe, give us a multiayer component with some extensive options for custom matches, private servers, etc. Let the community help keep the game alive long after release this time, instead of standing by as the player count slowly erodes. To close, If there's one last suggestion I could make, however, and this is important: *_Finally define what EDN III stands for, or just admit it meant nothing as an acronym in the first place, and create an entirely new one, you bastards!_* Seriously, we only learned ONE letter in the entire acronym. "The 'E' stands for 'Encoded'", LP3 Gale said. Okay. WHAT ABOUT THE REST? He forgot, apparently, in the most narratively heavy game in the series... What a cop-out, that was. So...yeah. I want answers, damn it! 😂 *Edit* ua-cam.com/video/rwKWln4O_4w/v-deo.html This video gave me some newfound perspective on Inafune's comments, those sentiments apparently being a product of an era rampant with anti-Japanese-gaming opinions amongst Western game developers and publications. Most of which, the ones who vocalized these bizarre takes, were probably incentivized to say this crap for PR-related reasons. Though, I'm reluctant to generalize --- I'm sure many in the West had their reasons. Some genuinely productive, others not so much.
