Its speed runs like this that are getting me more into watching speed runs. Love the commentary and the way they get the crowd involved. Overall just a good happy atmosphere. Great run keep up all the good work GDQ and all the amazing runners that make the event special.
Shoutouts to TGH for actually reading those books, bless him. To say nothing of the rest of the run and everyone involved (including the foxes and Hinox, lol). This was a blast!
I would love to see a four swords anniversary type game in this style. Ive always loved the idea of other swords than the Master sword with their own powers
Fun fact: when I was a kid, I bought the original gameboy game from a flea market. The seller told me that the game would last me for a lifetime. There was some truth to it, as I found out at home that the game was in German with no way to change the language...
This was my first time watching an entire run of a game, and it was absolutely amazing! Great runner & commentary, and for a great cause! Can’t wait for the next GDQ to maybe catch some of this action “live”!
Always fun to watch this community no matter what year have fun during such runs! (Still wish none UA-cam subtitles existed for my deaf friends though.)
According to the German copy of the game it's a violin yeah (du hast die Muschelgeige erhalten = you've obtained the Shell Violin); but the English copy does call it a cello I believe
I've played through this game 3 times and I never knew you could kill the "gordos" on the beach with your sword. I always just pushed them with my shield
Well, aren't long german words just multiple other words strung together? If you can get the same meaning across in 5 words with about 8 letters each on average, or 1 word that's 40 letters on average, you still save time from not having spaces.
56:28 Native german here... apology accepted. Edit at 1:01:20 Hey, that wasn't so bad. Edit 2 (after the interview): Wow... didn't think we germans had such a high contribution to GDQ. I hope my fellow Deutschländer weren't too offended by TGH's attempt at german book reading. :D
Hahaha, i laughed so hard as he read the books in german. He pronounced it very good. :D Great run , i did enjoy it , and you all should too. DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAAAA! *raises hands*
Marin mentions wanting to leave the island as a seagull as she assumes that only the seagulls are able to escape. So if she’s correct, if a seagull can’t even reach it, it must be very far away lol

The skip going around the back of the mountain blew my mind wide open. So fascinating that something like that would be built into the game
The Story of how Link took a super weird one hour and some minutes nap where he reads two german books and woke up a whale
😂
It's impressive just how much this game has been broken already. Super fun speedrun to watch!

Shout-out to the audience member who shouted "UNLIMITED POWER" at 23:03 or so.
Shoutouts to TGH for actually reading those books, bless him. To say nothing of the rest of the run and everyone involved (including the foxes and Hinox, lol). This was a blast!
The donation that said “Link? Did you have a good dream?” hit me harder than I thought it would, I started tearing up
1:00:40
I'm German and I found this wunderbar
Its wonderful
1:00:10 For a non german speaker that was actually pretty good. :)
The music in this game is so fucking good. This remake is my absolute favourite Zelda-game.
I would love to see a four swords anniversary type game in this style. Ive always loved the idea of other swords than the Master sword with their own powers
I love how this game had competely different skips from the original!
Fun fact: when I was a kid, I bought the original gameboy game from a flea market. The seller told me that the game would last me for a lifetime. There was some truth to it, as I found out at home that the game was in German with no way to change the language...
That definitely sounds like something they'd say if the cartridge was haunted
Haha, love the German book reading session at 1:00:30 & 1:10:32 - zis is hilariös, ja!
Great run by TGH and awesome commentary 👏
This was my first time watching an entire run of a game, and it was absolutely amazing! Great runner & commentary, and for a great cause! Can’t wait for the next GDQ to maybe catch some of this action “live”!
The books in German were hysterical. Great work, pretty clean run and very fun to watch!
1:00:35 As a german I'm laughing so hard
Agreed 🤣
as a dude who took German for my degree, im laughing my ass off.
As a guy who doesnt know German, I am laughing my ass off!
All of the little Papyrus laughs in the crowd make me happy.
Always fun to watch this community no matter what year have fun during such runs!
(Still wish none UA-cam subtitles existed for my deaf friends though.)
I'm so glad Amber started the "celebration every time Link celebrates" thing, I love runs that have ongoing jokes/chants
Really great runner, couch, and donation-reader! The chemistry and fun times in the runs are what make GDQ worth watching.
I never realized how beautiful the German language could sound until he read it.
I've never heard German sounding so beautiful, and I'm a native 😂
It's awesome how Patty's legend carries on ;D
Amazing run, runner and couch. Great plus having a runner who doesn´t care on the time if it brngs more donations.
Love how casual they are about link drowning being cute 😂😂
This was such a fun stream to watch, and the audience was so into it it have me a little hype 😁
This was such a fun run to watch!
First Instrument
Amber: “It’s totally a guitar”
Cellos: Are we a joke to you? 😂
Awesome run! Great job!
it's a banjoo
It's a giant violin.
I think it's a viola
It's a recorder!
According to the German copy of the game it's a violin yeah (du hast die Muschelgeige erhalten = you've obtained the Shell Violin); but the English copy does call it a cello I believe
I think this has to be the first game ever that's the fastest in german lmao.
Edit: After watching the run: Shoutouts to book reading
IIRC, Breath of the wild is faster with german text and french voices.
BotW as well ;)
Breath of the wild used to be run in German for a while I think, not sure about the current status
Twilight Princess's German version is faster too
Games like Ratchet & Clank are fastest in German too ^^
the person yelling “cheater” was hilarious
I was so confused to be able to read the game's text in my mother's tongue lol
I've played through this game 3 times and I never knew you could kill the "gordos" on the beach with your sword. I always just pushed them with my shield
Same guy who did Undertale in the previous year with some of the best commentaries I've seen.
That improvised book reading incentive was hilarious.
loved the runner and the couch on this one!! the explanations were great along with the audience interaction
Odd that German ends up being faster when German on average is often more characters per word than most other languages
its our speciality, we can fit whole sentences into only one word
Thats because german is able to combine multiple words into one longer word.
Well, aren't long german words just multiple other words strung together? If you can get the same meaning across in 5 words with about 8 letters each on average, or 1 word that's 40 letters on average, you still save time from not having spaces.
Maybe german words has more information packed in each word
Its because of how the text boxes are formatted
This was my favorite run out of all of the runs so far
this game is little gem, very easy to pick and have fun
13:25 That is a 6 string bass.
checkmate speedrunners
Sounds like a viola / cello played high
Sacrilegious viola
No it's a cello
56:28 Native german here... apology accepted.
Edit at 1:01:20 Hey, that wasn't so bad.
Edit 2 (after the interview): Wow... didn't think we germans had such a high contribution to GDQ. I hope my fellow Deutschländer weren't too offended by TGH's attempt at german book reading. :D
I never heard of germans being offended by non-natives trying to read german words out loud. I only know many who find that really amusing :D
That was downright hilarious at the end.
I cant rush though the game cause I don't want the island to disappear so
48:04 Guest starring Shovel Knight
Absolutely fantastic run, I loved it! Props to the runner and couch!
Links Awakening: BOOK PERCENT
Loved this run hope for it to be at sdgq
How the hell did they determine German was the fastest language *because of formatting* already? Game hasn’t been out a year! Incredible
That was a great run, and the crowd was super involved
I remember this game on the GameBoy!
Impeccable German pronunciation from the TGH! Vunderbar!
Cool run.
I know I am weird, but I kind of prefer the old 8-bit soundtrack... A bit more peppy. I am still super happy this game got remastered.
Hahaha, i laughed so hard as he read the books in german. He pronounced it very good. :D
Great run , i did enjoy it , and you all should too.
DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAAAA! *raises hands*
people always forget the very first Zelda also had those 2d side scrolling parts in dungeons as well.
Worth it just to see TGH sprecken ze deutch
Great run but the crowd and donations especially stood out here, love the vibe!
honestly the couch was just vibing in the beginning
a remake of favorite zelda game ever .
I just now realized that "Tarin" and "Marin" are mis-romanizations of Talon and Malon ...
It's actually the other way around, since Link's Awakening came first, and Malon and Talon's names were inspired by Marin and Tarin
Oh really what do those mean? I always assumed it was reference to Terra (earth) and Marine (water) sort of describing and island and such
Shoutouts to the german book reading ! Perfect german, from a native Deutsch speaker
Shoutouts to the Face Shrine OST
not Bad his german :D
Yo dawg, I heard you like dreams 😂
EDIT: Dude, for someone that doesn't speak German, that was really good!
So we made you dream inside your dream so you can exit your dream.
i can't believe anyone hasn't said this, PRAISE THE SUN!!!!!
And here i was thinking it looked good on a SuperGameBoy adaptor! (so strange not being completely birdseyeview though)
Good couch!
ACNH has damaged me. I see blue butterflies around the wind vane and I immediately think "EMPEROR BUTTERFLY! GET IT!"
It’s funny how there aren’t 3 people on the couch so they put sonic there 😂
33:26 for the best track in the game.
made me think of the Ori and the Blind Forest soundtrack
Ok Anyone who can gdq any game in my opinion has serious skill.
I love that this community is so dedicated to literacy.
great run!!
As a native German, his german was alright^^
As another native German: naaah. :D
Doch war schon echt ok, dafür das er wahrscheinlich nicht mal Deutsch in der Highschool hatte.
...why does the scenery have a top hitbox? Why was that a feature that needed to be added?
It's likely to ensure that should someone get out of bounds somehow, they don't fall infinitely.
just wunderbar! :)
Can somebody explain the "honk" thing I see referenced in a bunch of Zelda speedruns?
Sehr schöner schnell lauf von zelda links erwachen! Hat mich sehr beeindruckt
14:00 he explains why it's in german
33:30 This is the song that the Wyld Stallions are meant to create. But instead the fine folks at Nintendo beat them to the punch.
1:00:36 & 1:10:36 German lessons
with him reading these books this should be called Book%, lol
13:26 Omg it's a cello 😅
13:40
that is a cello
20:40 What is the full reference to the seagulls? I know about Marin and Idk what this joke refers to
Marin mentions wanting to leave the island as a seagull as she assumes that only the seagulls are able to escape. So if she’s correct, if a seagull can’t even reach it, it must be very far away lol
TGH reads a book in _German_
1:00:36
1:10:36
I love Zelda!
Du Hast!
Love this run so much but coming back to watch it again, gotta say imagine calling the DX version OG. Kids these days... 😂
Funniest shit I've ever seen at gdq. Hands down.
Imagine if this game still had the map select skip glitch.
His pronunciation in German isn’t that bad. Btw beautiful game and nice run!
am i the only person who puts the feather to x instead of y
Is it just me or does the shopkeeper look like piccolo.. and when you steal he uses a special beam cannon!!!!!
Those guys dancing in the front row at the beginning are so cute LOL
The German was basically understandable 👍
A chain chomp in a Zelda game...?
The old 2D Zeldas had them quite often, like oracle of seasons for example
Link's Awakening was a wacky game. It had so many Nintendo references.
This is a remake of the gbc Links Awakening. The original went off the beaten Zelda path and implemented enemies and made references from other games.
Actually, a German can understand what you read, so this is a pretty good attempt! :-)
Your German is better than my Spanish
1:10:30 - the reason why you are here
