As a Redbull fan, though it's sad to see Newey leave, I think the timing is right. I mean the team is a well oiled machine operationally, and they are winning. So, if ever there was time to step back it's now. Also though this might come as shock to many people, for those on the inside, Newey has been wanting to step aside for almost two years now, he already wasn't so thrilled with the direction of the sport anyway and also other members within the organization were stepping up in terms of leading the development and design of the care though he still contributed. The clues were in the reduced direct involvement in the car design like in terms of aero and co. All this to say, the team has been well aware and has been making preparation for life post Newey. So while the news still comes as a shock to us on the outside, I am certain they had their bases covered. I get for media pundits the narrative will be "oh the team is unravelling, and what does this mean for Max or Redbull's future?" Change is inevitable, and it is right that they build towards the future. I'm one of those who believe the era had to come to an end at some point, and for the years of service to Redbull, surely he deserves to explore other projects that excite him in the twilight of a highly decorated career whether it be outside f1 or with another team. He is going to be focusing on completing the ongoing project with RB17, I doubt in honor of his service to the team that they will try to get in the way of him joining another team sooner by insisting on gardening leave which would essentially mean 2027. whatever the case I am grateful to have witness an era of greatness at the team and I am also not flustered because the man who built it up from scratch is still there and RB is a strong unit still.

I mean no disrepect to your channel, but may I suggest the latest Missed Apex interview with Joe Saward to have some informed insight into the Newey situation?

Are you guys not aware that Adrian has still got the RB17 project to complete? That was most likely considered when agreeing the terms for his garden leave

Age will be an interesting factor. Alex Ferguson retired at 71. Belichick’s last Super Bowl was at 66. Adrian will be 66 by the time he can join another team. It’s something that I’ve not seen discussed much. Newey is already the oldest successful designer.

I think Ammar has nailed the key issue - who is most likely to get the motor right in 2026. You have to think that Mercedes, Honda (Aston), and Ferrari (engine manufacturers with reputation on the line) have a better chance than Ford (RB) and Audi (Stake), because they are new to the game. [you have to wonder about Ford - does F1 fit their brand (mustang only link) - are they committed enough - that if you were Verstapen you would have confidence in their association - and that they are not European]. Adrian going to Ferrari is a good bet for Adrian because they are closest in aero to RB and better than Mercedes or McLaren, and they want his help. If I was Max, I would be tempted to wait well into 2025 to decide whether Ford/RB/no Adrian is going to work for 2026. If Ferrari or Mercedes or Aston is catching them on aero, and the Ford rumours are shaken, it's time to move to Ferrari or Mercedes or Aston.
My prediction is Max (after 2024/25 (4,5) championships) to Aston (Honda) for 2026. Taking GP and aero people with him. Max plus $$$$ (Aero) from Aramco and Honda is going to be the best bet. Potentially Mercedes if they get their Aero trajectory right.

Adrian Newey's resignation was announced on the first of May, the day one of the greatest drivers of all times died in a car designed by....Adrian Newey.
Remember how the italians treatet Newey after this happened, calling him all but a murderer. Do you really think Newey will have forgotten that?
What if Newey signed for Ferrari and a crash happens with disastrous consequences.
As romentic as it sounds for him to end his carreer at Ferrari, we all know how unforgiving this organisation and fandom can be.
Newey has the pedigree but he can't do it alone. Let's not forget that.
You can have a superstar striker but if you don't have a team behind him/her to properly pass the ball he/she will not score.

@@Slipstream_merchantI’m pretty sure Carlos is leaving Ferrari because they had to move one of them aside to bring Lewis on board.
If Hamilton wasn’t on his way in, they were very happy with Carlos and the balance of that pairing
