He tells EJ and DC about where his passion for designing came from, his interests outside motor racing and the horrific cycling crash that left him with a fractured skull.

DC's humour is constantly and delightfully dry - had I a hat it would be taken off to him. This channel is a glass of champagne on a hot day in the Med! Bravo!
Obvious that apart from being a brilliant engineer, Adrian Newey is a genuinely nice bloke who is a pleasure to know and work with. As a Ferrari fan, I’d love to see him working at Maranello in the future. However, I could understand him wanting to leave Red Bull and F1 to go off and do something else, even retire. The man has nothing more to prove. My compliments to you Adrian for your superb work over all these years - you’re a living legend!
Quite telling when he says leaving RB would be like ‘walking out on your family’ - and here we are now.

I would love to hear Adrian Newey's comments on Honda. After all, that engine unlocked the RED BULL sledgehammer from 2021. They just do not get the credit they so deserve.
Well technically it wasnt a honda they where leaving so i think that shame effected their marketing. Japanese take shame seriously
Engine freeze forced by Red Bull is the major factor.
@@RogueCylon And the relentless development before that. I recall Toro Rosso getting at least 3 differect spec PUs before the freeze.
@@GloomGaiGar Mercedes had a 2 year headstart at the beginning of the hybrid era. Honda got involved much later with a greenfield engine which could only be developed in races. No testing. Then McLaren and Honda parted company and RB joined with Honda. The rest is now history.
@captaintoyota3171 how is it technically not a Honda ? It is a Honda PU through and through, they just spent 9 months with only a hrc sticker on it

Gosh I just love these friendships. EJ is such a character, which is something I don’t think enough people appreciate. Love to hear anything from newey, I devoured his book last year, might be a quieter figure compared to others but such a great storyteller.
This is a fantastic lesson in business success!!! I'll be rewatching this in the coming months.

A bit misleading from FFS to not disclose that in the title.
People are going to feel mislead. I felt misled clicking on it.
I realised it was the replay when I went to the Red Bull chapter and he said “the second year of the new regulations” referring to 2023.
@@frizzyacademic It's disclosed on-screen less than a minute into the video, and the first paragraph of the description is dedicated to explaining it. Perhaps adding "(pre-recorded)" or something to the title could make it more obvious, but otherwise I think it's down to the viewers for not paying attention.

The fact he talks about Christian in a good way and still a friend tells me the only reason he left is Marko and Jos. They will no doubt continue to blame Horner completely clueless that we all know what they did.

Adrian, your story of the start of your career reminds me of me expecting to get an F1 spot from South Africa and being so disappointed at my response from none other than Ross Brawn saying “ come and be a mechanic”, and I thought, but I’m an Aeronautical Engineer!
So it’s clear he wouldn’t be leaving RB were it not for the Horner issue. And it seems clear too that only the excitement of Ferrari could make a switch he didn’t initially want, exciting and motivating.
If he goes to Ferrari it would seem Fred is building a monster of a team

Iwatched your last interview where you tiptoed around Adrian's current situation and now here is the most incredibly successful Formula One Engineer and most successful Chief Technical Officer for any F1 Team in the modern era. The guy who worked for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull.

I've only just discovered and subscribed to this channel and absolutely love it, I didn't know Eddie was in Capetown, I'm a Londoner but have lived in Capetown for over 40 years now, have been an F1 fan since Jim Clark was winning races for Lotus in the '60s, have done some track time myself at Killarney here in the Cape in the past and am a very keen music fan, lots in common, would be great to get a chance to say hello one day. Quick question for Eddie, I have been a fan and supporter of Radio Caroline since the '60s too and am a regular listener to this day and wonder if you ever had any dealings with the late, great Ronan O'Rahilly?
