When the Jacksons' version was climbing the charts here in the US I actually heard Mick Jackson's version one Saturday afternoon when they played it on American Bandstand. I always remembered Mick's way of pronouncing "boogie" as "boo-gay" in the chorus. I imagine Mick is happy that he at least got the royalties.

An interesting story. I remember it well! A great record and possibly the one that the JACKSONS (rather than the J5) are remembered for. It was a top 10 hit in the UK and of course would've gone higher if sales hadn't been split between both versions. One of the catchiest pop/disco songs of the 70s and a timeless classic.

His song has been offered to the Jacksons by his own publisher, and he got to collect double royalties because of the double releases, so he didn't get robbed, like he said in a prior interview: "We did a great song, the Jacksons made a diamond out of it".
