My compliments! With some bad lighting, dishonest close-ups on the wrinkles and vile editing, Jim Peterik could have looked like a much sadder person. I am glad you did not go that road.
I love the fact that a Dutch radio station makes documentaries of songs, for the whole world to enjoy.
Who else but the Dutch
FUCK yeah. I am binge-watching all their videos now. What a great channel this is!!!!!!
@@VauxhallViva1975 these videos all of a sudden showed up in my feed.. and I just can't stop watching.. so many memories of my life in the Netherlands.. I actually remember what I was doing, where I was, when these songs came out!!! Thank you guys!! A real throwback!
American Media is too busy pushing more wars

You only need one song. One song to set you up financially for life!
This man has saved my life with his music I was 15 stone over weight couldn’t walk no more than 10 steps one day I was listening to random music n started to increase my steps by 2-3 at a time . Within six months I no longer needed oxygen at home . 1 year later I’ve lost 10 stone I walk 5-10 miles a day .
Suec C wow that’s amazing. Congratulations.
Snesley Wipes thank you , still have a very long way to go , I’m saving as much money as I can for plastic surgery to cut away my lose skin
Keep going!! Most of us can barely ever do the right thing even when it's easier than what you did.
Suec C...congratulations, it's not easy to make such drastic changes. Very admirable! Have a happy and healthy life, God bless
Suec C...just one thing...you saved yourself, even if you'd never heard this record, you'd have done it . It was something in you,, not the song or the band. I know it's easier to exercise to music, but that motivation has to be in you anyway. 10 stone in one year is awesome! You deserve the credit, and would have done it with or without the song. (tho it is an epic track to exercise to :)
My nephew is severely overweight, his young life is affected by it, I get so upset seeing him struggle, and angry with his mother for doing it to him (he's been overweight since about 3 years old, he's almost 18 now). I pray he finds his motivation, stories like yours are a true inspiration.
Love to see a rock idol in his late ages who is not a junkie, a drunkie and bankrupt.

Hats off to the Dutch station for this priceless gift.
35 years later and it's still a great song. A "song with a pulse". Most definitely.

I admire him for embracing it 100 percent. Clearly he doesn't take himself too seriously. It just goes to show how one mega hit can change a musician's life forever.
Embracing It? Should he be ashamed?
To all the haters.....Jim has a great home, nice guitars..at least 1 amazing car AND his health.
Make all the Survivor jokes you want. Dude is living large!
I've met him on a couple of occasions. Including at Shopko. As nice as a guy as you will ever meet.
He's having fun, he's incredibly talented, and he's given us music that not just entertains but inspires us, brings a part of us alive as only music with real soul can.
Thank you, Jim, for the beautiful writing, and Jimi, for the soaring vocals (along with the rest of Survivor; you were really a sum greater than your parts!).
We will always miss you, Jimi, and thank you, Jim, for giving him his chance to shine so brightly! ❤❤❤
No Survivor jokes here but he looks ridiculous. His life tho.
He is hefty loaded!
Make stupid remarks about his looks all you want.
@@jason-ian-Van-Sloten - stupid remarks? Just because one has a ton of money doesn't mean they can't look ridiculous
What a character. I wanna be him when I'm old :)
He was on our local news weekend show(Nashville) years ago. He played acoustic and sang some of his songs. Very talented but I agree with you, he’s quite a character
Looks like Jim Peterik did a good job of saving his money and keeping his publishing rights!
stuguy fuck I was wondering how he’s still balling but you’re right. He outsmarted a few people to live like this cuz I don’t think he’s done much the last few decades.
JWPrimetime All u need is 1 MASSIVE SONG & it sets u up for Life.
Robert Downes he probably does a little touring here or there and maybe some investment income but I have to believe the publishing and licensing income from “Vehicle”, “Eye of the Tiger”, his other Survivor hits and other artists bring in a very consistent and high income. Eric Carmen of Raspberries fame brings in 600,000 to 800,000 yearly from his songs and Berton Averie (guitarist Knack) always joked that all he has to do is walk to the mailbox and get his royalties from My Sharona. Most importantly Peterik seems like a stable and well grounded guy. Kept his money and even his fantastic and rare guitar collection, albeit expensive to acquire has increased immensely in value of the years.
stuguy That's right & apparently he wrote hits for other artists starting in the 60's. He still performs every now & then.
Obviously the BIG Money earner is "Eye of a Tiger". The royalties on that must be immense.
theselector right you are. I’m sure that song alone brings somewhere in the six figures each year even after splitting it with Frankie Sullivan. I believe he had a few hits with 38 Special that charted high in the early to mid 80s too. Regardless he’s married to his high school sweetheart, still performs with original members of Ides of March, has a family and seems well grounded. One of the few happy endings for older musicians. Kudos to him. 👍🏻
Jim Peterik is an American treasure. He has written more top 10 songs for multiple artists than most people realize.
Daniel Brennan which ones?
@@rubberneckk Peterik has co-written songs for 38 Special ("Rockin' into the Night", "Hold On Loosely"), Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackhawk, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar ("Heavy Metal"), Cathy Richardson, Van Zant, Brian Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and The Beach Boys.
@@DJDanceClassic He also was in 'Ides of March'...who had the Hit, 'Vehicle'...which...He Wrote! Yeah...guy definitely 'made his mark'...on Rock n' Roll.
There is only one thing better than a purple Lamborghini, and thats purple hair in a Lamborghini, and here is a man who has earned both of them! Killer tune.... BRAVO 🏆
I think you mean a purple wig.
Except the Lamborghini is grey, like what's left of his real hair.
Congratulations, my friend i am Fan since 1981 i am 61 years greetings from Germany i sing that song over and over aigain during the 80th and 90rh in a lot of Coverbands it was a great time
Survivor knew how to hit that inspirational chord in us all. He deserves that car. haha
I can’t even imagine how much money this guy has. Meanwhile I’m sleeping on the floor on a casper mattress lol.
He seems like a genuinely nice guy who really enjoys life, which is what I guess we all aspire to be.
I’m reading all these derogatory comments and it makes me laugh. You have no clue! One hit wonder? Ha! He continues to write #1 and 2 hit songs with every major star you can imagine (lots of them). Grow old gracefully? Why??? He’s got more creative energy and brain power than most of you haters will ever have. He is around the clock, writing, recording, producing and touring at a pace that most people wouldn’t survive. I’m biased because I’ve had the honor of working with him, but he’s also one of the nicest, and most genuine human beings you’ll ever meet...a drug free singer/songwriter/author/ multi-instrumentalist/Grammy winning superstar, who married his HS sweetheart and is still married to her. You learn from people like Jim, you don’t let your petty jealousy get the better of you and mock them. Sad. Think before you comment.
Nothing to add to that period haters hate that's a fact of life just let them hate

Do a little google search and you'll see he has written many songs for many groups. Dude is a legend
I see this dude around my town of Saugatuck, MI. All the time. He’s a great guy and always really friendly to those who wanna meet him and say hi
About twenty five years ago -- it must have been around 1992 -- I had the pleasure of seeing him in a city of Chicago "Music for the Schools" conference type of thing. It was an event for high school students in the city where you could attend lectures by music professionals in a classroom, discussing everything from songwriting to recording to engineering. It was a very inspiring program, and free, from what I remember.
At any rate, I remember sitting in this classroom -- I think it was the songwriting one --and Jim Peterik was leading it. I had no idea what to expect, and I'm not even sure I was aware he wrote "Eye of the Tiger" at the time. He walks in, acoustic guitar in hand, and starts with the repeated single note intro into the main riff, then vocals, and just OWNS the room. As a 16-year-old, I was just blown away by his musical confidence and charisma. I had never thought much of the song until then, but it made such an impression on me that that is the only thing I remember about that conference. And then he relayed the story about the writing of the song that is very similar to what is in this video, so he's clearly told the story a few times. :)
So a tip of the glass to Jim. Thanks for your time and for inspiring us. And keep living the rock and roll life!
pulykamell nice, I believe you. To believe is to be inspired.
Jim seems like a sweet genuine person. Eye of the Tiger has been my son's favourite song now for a few years now. I just happened across this video and I will replay this for him tomorrow. He is 8 and I am sure he will enjoy the story behind it.
You’re raising your son right! Kudos to you! 🙌👏👏🙏
I love how fully he embraces his one massive hit song! Showing no signs of tiring of it at all!
They had more than 1 hit
Jim Peterik is an extremely talented musician with loads of credits to his name.
The year that this song was released I was a sophomore in high school on the football team and we went into the playoffs almost to state playoffs.
Our team was the Tigers! So this song is on my Soundtrack of Life!
I still love it and it's so great to see this wonderful man who wrote it!
Songs like yours are so rare. There is some energy in it that most artists will never be able to replicate in their careers. It’s something you can’t aim for as a songwriter. You can’t sit to write and say “oh I will write a song that touches people like the eye of tiger does”. That won’t work.
This song many times inspired me in my business to do what others won't in order to succeed. Thankyou for that gift.
I like that he doesn't shy away from the song, he embraces it.
what a lovely, amazing video. i just love it. thank you for making it!!!
Usually I'd shy away from saying this about a rich person but Jim effing deserves this. Live that life, man. You gave the world an incredible/inspirational song that has lived for decades and will live on well after we're all gone. I'm pretty sure he's done more than just Eye Of The Tiger so he's not a 'one hit wonder'. He made me laugh with his clothes and hair and just the whole rock & roll lifestyle he's living. Good for him, he seems like a good dude!
Three words to this video... “SIMPLY AWESOME DOCUMENTARY!!!!” Life has been good to Jim... And Jim has been good to himself too... ROCK ON!!!
He's written many songs, but even if he didn't, a one hit wonder still ain't bad, imagine changing your whole life with one song
He wrote or co-wrote a number of hits. VEHICLE for the Ides of March was his first #1. They also did L.A. GOODBYE. And he did a number of hits for 38 Special. And Jim is still playing with the original members of The Ides of March! They got together in high school around 60 years ago! Go see them if you get a chance, you won't be disappointed! I've seen them a number of times and they are always great!
My song when I was recovering from a sudden illness that almost killed me. After some time in the hospital, I had to recuperate and restore my body in the nursing home. I used this song during my rehabilitation sessions.
i was seriously injured and i was about to die. i stayed in hospital for 2 months. and i used to listen to eye of the tiger and burning heart almost every day in hospital
I could sit with Jim and listen to his stories all day. He's got history and is still a musician today. This is an awesome video.
It truly is the most motivating and inspiring song, even in 2023!
👍💗
Thanks for writing that song. As an LSU TIGER fan its played all the time, and that "Eye of the Tiger" logo is proudly displayed on the 50 yard line in Tiger Stadium for every game!
Hey, people, Jim is WAY WAY more than some one hit wonder. He has written many great songs thru many years and is famous in the music world. Writer, producer, promoter, all around talented guy and very friendly and respected. Google him and see the long list of songs you know and love. Hope he's still alive and kicking in his wild outfits. He's a legend.
Way back in 1964 Larry Millas asked Jim Peterik to join his band. That band eventually became the Ides of March. They are going to celebrate their 60th anniversary as a band in March with all four original members still in the band.
How beautiful! You got the whole world motivated! Sometimes, all it takes...is the right song. God blessed you 🙏!

This guy is a master songwriter. All of those Survivor songs are well laid out. The best ones were never famous too. I love his honesty. Very passionate about what he does as well.
Him and Frankie made a great song writing duo. RIP Jimi Jamison.
This is great. I love stories like this. Good for him. That is such an awesome song. Still pumps me up when I work out. And what a guitar collection. He's done something right in his life.
Damn, that guy is loaded. Just that guitar collection alone is literally worth a fortune.

This vid was on the suggested list for me, I had to look him up to make sure he's who I thought he was...and he is. What I never knew is that he was very prolific as a song writer; WAY more than the one song and for multiple big-name bands. That totally explains his wealth. One of the not-large percentage of musicians who are not super-stars, but succeeded in the biz.

This song made the opening for ROCKY III.Especially the way how they introduced the start of ROCKY III. They timed it perfectly with the fireworks.
And it's the superior DEMO version that you hear in Rocky III. Absolutely amazing. I wish thet released that version alongside the studio one
Goosebumps guarantied!!! I went through something quite harsh not long ago and I put this song for encouragement, not knowing that people do the samething lol. So, this songs is realy inspiring to all kind of people for all kind of reasons. Hens that's a real universal song.
Look at those guitar collections.
Yes, worth a lot more than the 12 year old Lambo.
Is it plural?
Were there more than 1 collection? Or was the entire thing 1 big collection?
i like the flying v .
Dark Coven - ALL the star guitar players have rooms like that. That's why it's so hard to find those fine old guitars anymore. Some of those guys actually play them. Even worse is that many actors play, and have huge collections. The chance of a beginner to ever get their hands on one of those is microscopic. When Eric Clapton first played one you could find a used Les Paul in pawnshops for less than $200.!
dont tell me what to do,asshole
man such an amazing interview, one of my all time favorite songs in my favorite movie franchise 😊
Timeless classic rock song that I never tire of hearing or will ever sound dated, it still sounds as fresh today as it did back then!
I can understand how inspiring it must have been for many people and how it can be used to drive people forward towards a goal. 😎👍
I remember saving up my pocket money and buying it on a 7 inch single vinyl, played it till my speakers blew up! ⚠️😁😎👍
That Guitar collection is godlike! Amazing!
It’s one thing to be a one hit wonder. It’s another thing entirely for someone to call you up and tell you to deliver them a hit song for their hit movie and for you to ace it. It’s the difference between a little leaguer hitting a home run by accident and a pro closer nailing a homer in in a playoff game.
Survivor wasn't a one hit wonder. They were pretty good and had quite a few songs that got a lot of radio play back then.
They weren't really one-hit. Sly Stallone had heard "(Rich Man's Daughter)Poor Man's Son" which is why he wanted them on "III" and then afterwards they did "Burning Heart" for Rocky IV
One hit wonder? You really don't know A thing about music do You?
Dude wrote "(I'm your) Vehicle" Ides of March, had a few other hits that are still on what is left of the radio. Yes he got the call, and he delivered the goods.

Love this guy. A true original. Great mini-doc.
Say what you want, but Jim Peterik is not a one hit wonder. He wrote Vehicle, a song by The Ides of March. It's a classic rock staple. He also wrote Hold on Loosely, by 38 Special. Brian Wilson , of all people , had him work on his 1998 solo album with him. He also is still very much involved in the business end of the music industry.
Anthony Brancale Co-wrote Hold On Loosely. With two others.
HOLD ON LOOSELY. Not Hang On Loosely.
thanks for that info. i didn't realize he was that prolific. and songs i know and like, too.
Vehicle - great song!!!
didn't know he wrote those songs.
That syncopation during the song intro is so fire! Always gets me.
That soundtrack paid for a Lamborghini and some.
Much better song for that movie than the Queen song.
I'm a huge Queen fan - but funnily enough I like "Eye of the tiger" a lot more
than "Another one bites the dust"!
A low end one. The guitar collection is much more impressive.
Andy Mangele Same here, I'm huge Queen fan, but Eve of the Tiger fits way better than Another one bites the dust. I don't like that song too, Brian neither did back then and Roger totally hated it if I remeber well.
But Freddie - on the other hand - was totally into it! ;)
You realize that his guitar collection is worth a lot more than that Lamborgini?
Not sure what I got from this vid....but this guy handled his business well. And good for him. Just wanna personally thank these guys for this song. When I was 14....learning drums in marching band.....I played my first drum riff to this song! I was a freshman in High School....and this Senior just went up to me and yelled Woohoo! Real loud....Because I nailed a drum riff for the first time....and he knew it! From that moment on I was hooked....I wanted to effect People like that with the drums. 35 years later I'm still drumming...and a working musician ....living a dream! ....staying hungry!
Great story on how the hit came about. A classic song that will be around a lot longer than some of the keyboard jokers here giving the guy a hard time for being a successful artist and individual.
Wow- his guitar collection is awesome, it´s like a candy shop. The riff is history like smoke on the water.
When one song makes you that much money you can be "exotic" :-) Great Story...musical success is so random...
This guy made lots of bank from several songs, not just Eye of The Tiger. You need to do some research before you comment.
In my 21 years in the Army I heard this song hundreds of times at ceremonies, change of command, after and during unit runs. What a cool dude.
@Liberty Tree Honestly I hate this song for that very reason............it seemed really corny.

Cheers! all you guys have the Eye of the Tiger! >_O
What an amazing story,the guy,the band,the song...RESPECT!
I was actually lucky enough to go to his house and check some of his guitars. He actually let me play that Flying V or at least one of the Korina Flying Vs he had at the time. After he put it in my hands he told me how much it was and my butt clenched.
You know someone's gotta ask. How much?
He come across as a pretty nice, down to earth person who loves life
Such a lovable guy!!!!
Even if he only had a " one hit wonder", I wouldn't mind 35 years plus of royalties. Do the math wise guys.
If that one hit helped inspire many many others to reach their potential? That is worth a lot! Hell if I'd come up with something like that, I would be satisfied in life.
