  • "He knew there was something wrong with his tax affairs. Most will think that's not the way anyone should behave, and certainly not the Chancellor of the Exchequer."
Nadhim Zahawi was aware he was committing tax avoidance, founder of Tax Policy Associates Dan Neidle explains on #TimesRadio.

In Russia there would have been a presser praising for how amazingly accurate his tax returns were. Who am I kidding? There would never be a tax investigation in Russia, unless it a frame job to get rid of an enemy.

It's not "envy" that upsets people, what an awful trope...it's the injustice...a lack of fairness.

Absolutely! Well said and blame to those who would try to make it a matter of envy. That’s shameful.

Typical an MP allegedly fiddling his taxes. They would come after us like no tomorrow if it was an ordinary taxpayer even if we owned one penny.

The public get the government they deserve.
Tory voters don't care one jot whether the Tory party fiddles with their taxes, shoves billions of taxpayer money to their already wealthy friends or engages in corruption.
      Tory politicians know this.
They know that they can commit any number of crimes or dodgy deals, corruption and a lot of the public will still proudly show up and vote for them.

There needs to be proper consequences for breaking the law if an MP. They should have the book thrown at them to make an example of them if caught breaking the law. We can not let this keep happening where the rich and privileged get away without any consequences.

Can we also remind ourselves that Zahawi was very keen to become chancellor at this specific period, even knowing that the role was very likely to only have a short tenure. People at the time pointed out how strange it was that he was putting so much political capital into getting what seemed to be a poisoned chalice at the time.

Dan Neidle deserves a peerage. But, alas, he's not the son of a KGB agent and he's not given a donation to the Tory party and he's not got any dirt on a careless PM, so he won't get one.

This guy is a bit of quiet hero. It’s not sexy, but the few who keeps tabs on those made nearly unaccountable via wealth or other power sources are in extremely short supply and sorely needed. The UK’s scandalous libel laws mean this guy is often risking his neck to bring us the realities of Moneyland’s citizens.
