      Lol. I am 39 and just watched his video on, Are you too old to become a pilot? Watch it as a career statement, 62 - (Your age) And I wanted to until I realized, while downsized due to COVID that switching careers to Aviation was not a plausible one. I need income and not an expense to just get started.

    Great points! I think that the concepts you mention here about preparation also apply to any kind of training...whether it's learning to drive a car or even a motorcycle, having the right mind set will help you succeed. Also, being able to get through any training at the pace they require prepares you for the real world where it really matters...IMHO.

    Great video Kelsey! I know exactly what you mean about staying ahead of the game. For my private and instrument I went with the motions not really knowing what to expect and had ok check rides. Now I am preparing out the wazoo for my ATP training. 6 months ahead I finished all my writtens (CAX, FIA, FII, IGI, FOI). I’m going through the instructor handbook, plus all my supplement books for the aircraft and the Garmin systems onboard.
    I don’t want to miss a beat when I start my professional pilot training. I’ve got too much financially invested to play it casual. This is my dream job and my future and I want to walk into training day one and feel prepared.
    Thank you for all the informative vids and, as always, keep the blue side up!

  • @tommy35ss

    What makes me the most nervous is pretty much what you described, being overwhelmed by the information. I think the classes I took helped me get a handle on it though, that is on how to study for airline ground school. A lot of good things were brought up in this video that I will try to do when I get to that point, like searching for flight manuals on the aircraft type I would be training on as early as possible.
    The other thing that makes me nervous, is if I go the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve route after I finish my bachelors. If I do that, I don't want to fail at something that has been a dream for a long time, and washing out during any of the military training.
    With either/both routes, I also fear I won't like the lifestyle. I hope I will, and think I will, but we will see. I love aviation, and am passionate about it in that I always try to strive for excellence. So I am hoping it won't be an issue.

    Back when I was a gate agent at US Airway, Air Whisky was the only airline I knew that was actively hiring co-pilots, but 20k your first year?! yikes! I am sure flight school cost that much. As far as the depiction of the guy who didn't like getting shots. That reminds me of a story my wife told me of a guy who behaved that way at her job where she was a Dental Assistant, the guy was crying about he didn't like needles, but guess what? The guy was covered in tattoos...um, last time I checked tattoos involve needles.

    being one step ahead in airline training is vital, last thing you want is getting bombarded by new complicated infromation, specially the time span, airline training lasts up to 3-6 months, and the amount of knowledge youre gonna recieve is comparable to an entire 4year college course

Granted, I was an aircraft mechanic for the Dept of Defense for 13 years (then 18 years in IT) and will be "beginning" with credit for private pilots certificate at ATP in May. Right now I am finishing the last 2 university courses for my bachelors over the next 8 weeks. Hopefully taking the university level courses for the past couple of years will help keep me in school mode and it wont seem so bad. Any tips or things to consider as I make this leap? Ive been trying to watch and absorb as much as I can from channels such as yours :)

      I think you are right that your Brain is still in learning mode it will help. Older guys I have seen struggle haven't been studying for a long time. They're brain is "out of shape" so that will help. As for what to expect on your private its in this video : ua-cam.com/video/tsYDdAeXPZ4/v-deo.html
      and other than that if you have watched the videos on studying for your checkride I did I think you are in great shape. Just study and prepare and put in the work. I had an a fantastic Officer In Charge that was a C-130 Pilot. I would grill him on his NATOPS Procedures and Aircraft Manuals. We would start on the first page and he could recite verbatim every manual on that Airframe. It was amazing. Then he tells me he has an Eidetic memory. And it didn’t matter where I started in the manual, subject, page number, system, Torque Specifications, it was disgusting. He could do that with anything he wanted to. I still hate that guy. Only kidding he my best bud.

      ya thats just not fair when people are that smart... I unfortunately have had to learn these things the hard why by repetition of studying... It must be nice to be as smart as him!

      Kid in my cfi ground school is like that. Literally any FAR, any certificate standard, anything in the POH. He can look at it once and recite it all... insane. I can only dream of having a gift like that. I have to repeat things quiet a bit before I can recite them to that level.

    That would be the worst, put in all that time and effort to get to the airline to not put in just a little bit more to get it done and wash out. I imagine you have all the time in the world for trips and slacking off after you have completed training and on your days off. What a bummer. Great video and insight. Hopefully it'll help someone see what not to do. Keep up the great work.
    It would be kinda cool if you could say something in your video intro like" Coming to your from Dallas" or "From Paris" or wherever you may be. Would be cool to be able to see where your travels take you. Just a idea.

      🤔 I thought of doing that at the beginning when I first started Josh, but then I wanted to make the video as concise as possible more about getting the viewers the info they need not about what I am doing or where I am going... but maybe in the future ya.

    Another great video, Kelsey! I was wondering, how do you know what plane you'll be flying, whether it's at the regionals or the airlines?

    • @74gear
      @74gear  5 років тому +2

      in some cases you are assigned it before training. In some cases that regional only has one type or you plan to request that type and you know you will get it. Or if you don't know any of that information than you can't really prepare too much but usually you will have adequate time to study and use the tools I talk about in the checkride prep video.

    • @a-10warthog90
      @a-10warthog90 5 років тому

      find out how many flight hours a month cfis get at your flight school. if they get at least 75 to 80+ flight hours a month, be a cfi with them for maybe a couple years or so then you'll get to 1500

    • @74gear
      @74gear  5 років тому

      Ya what A10 said, apply everywhere and just start building time as quickly as possible after 1000 hours you have a lot more opportunities. First job is definitely the hardest to get!

    You asked what about this makes me the most nervous?It is definitely being washed out. I love aviation, am a good pilot and I am self-disciplined, but I am also timid about not being able to meet the standards. Maybe it's just part of being a paranoid pilot? Could you talk about the washouts a little bit more?
