Happy New Year everyone and awesome advice Kelsey! You just answered my previous question to you... As for my goals for 2019, I just got my CFI rating in December 2018 with total time sitting at 450 hours. Next I will be getting all my ATPL theory credits locked in starting in February with a 3 month full time course here in New Zealand at Ardmore Flying School. Then from May using that CFI rating to clock up another 550 hours to hit 1,000 hours total time by the end of 2019. That will mean an average of 80 hours flying per month. Doable but not at a flying school that has you teaching ground theory courses for the first 6 months of an "internship"... So Australia or the Maldives is looking attractive... All the best everyone and may all your goals be achieved in 2019!

Thanks Captain Kelsey:) this video is very motivating:) I want to get my flying done this summer when weather gets better in Canada and my goal is to complete my CPL and multi, IFR this year:)

@@74gear Kels.. This means a lot mn. I had been doubt full but after watching your video on "Russian sully", I have made up my mind to pursue my dreams at 28 yrs. - Off to the Sky
The two major airlines in Canada, WestJet Encore and Air Canada Jazz both have entry-level programs that will be able to get your foot in the door and have less than 1000 hours regardless. You must have their minimum requirements before offered employment, but this allows younger pilots with less experience to get the ball rolling with these airlines.
My goal is to become an Emirates A380 first officer by 21 years old. I will turn 16 by Dec 2023, and I finish highschool in June 2024. I will go to flightschool straight after, in September. Flightschool in europe usually takes 12-18 months, so by the time I graduate I'll be 18, precisely the minimum age for a CPL/Frozen ATPL. Most legacy airlines in Europe hire at 200 hours total time. So if I get hired and fly for 3 years until 21, at a rate of 900 hours per year, I'll end up with 2,700 hours plus flightschool hours and that's 2,900 hours total time; well within Emirates' minimums of 2,000 hours on a jet-powered aircraft with MTOW 20T or more. Might be straightforward to become an Emirates pilot, but definitely not easy to get on the A380 fleet as nearly 90% of EK pilot applicants get allocated to the B777, even though there's nearly as much A380s as B777s in the fleet. Many A380 pilots at EK aren't new hires like with the B777 all the time. Most were either pilots at EK long ago even before the A380 first joined the fleet, or they are direct-entry captains. That's not to say I dislike the B777, as it is my favorite aircraft. But the A380 is rare gem, that won't be around for very long like the B777X or even the B747F. Wish me luck!

Thanks for this lovely video. I am a Class 3 flight instructor (in Canada) with 500hrs and my goal is to move to a 3rd tier carrier and gain 500hrs more (1000TT) on twin turbine aircraft (King Air, Beach 1900 etc.). Blessings and good wishes to all who read this.

I am 38yrs OLD CPL with 410 flight hours, this year, I do plan to complete CFI and gain 800hours and 2020 to complete 1500 hours and ATPL and my A320 type rating
Commercial/instrument/multi-single pilot: 260 hours: haven’t been in an airplane in 8 years: 38 years old: 2019: to become a CFI/pursue a career in aviation and finally leave my job
Hey Kelsey.. are you comfortable with doing some kind of vlog style video's? Things like what location you are... and where you're heading. Maybe some flight deck video's (take off, landings, 747 cockpit tour?) Like Kent Wein channel for example. .... I''m just throwing up a ball... of course you.. and your company & colleagues must be comfortable with this.
One of my buddies is now a first officer at American Airlines. On his off days while still a first officer at the regionals he’d go out with a buddy who had access to Cessna citation. They’d go on trips all the time with my buddy as PIC to get a jump start on his hours. definitely got him to the majors a lot faster. Not many people have connections and access to stuff like this, but this is a perfect example of using your resources to your advantage! Wishing good luck to everyone pursuing a life of flying!!
so i want to be at 250 hours by the end of this year, 2019. so thats 6 months left at the start of july. that leaves me with 120 days after i finish enrolling in my chosen flight school not including weekends. so im going to have to fly for a minimum of 2.1 hours a day monday through friday to reach that goal.
Waking up in the north...clearing snow...flying a plane with a bearly working heater for $12hr.. you didn't work for Cape Air did you? XD And my goals, get my ATP this year and get a line as a captain. cheers!
I really don’t understand why so many airlines insist on a college degree. Do they think it makes the candidate more well rounded? It seems it would be so much more practical for students to pay for some community college courses in whatever mathematics and science classes are necessary for understanding how airplanes work, and greatly reduce their student debt load.
degree's are a thing of the past. several airline pilots have told me (including my dad who flies for american) i rather invest more in my flight training to get more quality training then spend another 100k for college.
@@vram745 that makes sense. As long as a pilot understands basic physics of flight, meteorology, and physiological factors, that should be sufficient. I could not care less if my pilot has a 4 year degree and some irrelevant classes in organic chemistry, botany, or early American literature.
I dont either. The "right of passage" with the degree has been around since degrees and flight training were affordable for people wanting to work hard and follow the dream. Realistically these days, a degree and flight school together is going to put someone in debt around $200k. Or unless you just have filthy rich parents who can help you out. Who wants to do that? Nobody who is sane. I always thought of a pilot as a trade like anything else that doesnt require a degree. Unfortunately there are a lot of talented and well rounded individuals out there who cant achieve their dreams because its monetarily unaffordable.
My goal by this time next year is to have my CFI, and have atleast 700 hours of flight time. In 3 years my goal is to have my first job at the regionals if not sooner depending how the current flight situation is. And in 10 years hopefully be at Atlas Air with a couple years of experience.
Ha ha! I hate hot weather so much! I think if I were pouring sweat at DFW, and they told me I was 30th for departure, I’d have taken off my headset, gotten out, and said “that’s it! I’m finding a career as an ice fishing tour guide!” Just kidding of course! This was great advice.
To solo and get 20 hours of flight time, I'm only 15 so I can't get too much done, but I think this is pretty reasonable, and it'll help me get my ppl earlier than most.
After flight school do you think buying your own plane...like a Cessna 172 or 152 and getting up to 1500 hours that way can be a faster way to get to the regionals? or do you think they would much rather see that time as a CFI? Love the videos...they have been a huge inspiration in starting my aviation career!
Goal for this year is to finish my check ride within the next few weeks since I got a letter of discontinuance due to weather and start chipping away my instrument rating
I love the new editing style though I think it needs some slight adjustments. I think the colour correction makes you look like a bit of a ghost and I think the SFX are too loud. All in all though, a definite step up. Keep it up and tell your editor he's doing great.

Helpful advice. Thanks!
Thanks for this lovely video. I am a Class 3 flight instructor (in Canada) with 500hrs and my goal is to move to a 3rd tier carrier and gain 500hrs more (1000TT) on twin turbine aircraft (King Air, Beach 1900 etc.). Blessings and good wishes to all who read this.
thanks I am glad you enjoyed it Joshua... with 500 hours you are well on your way... let me know if you have any pilot question I can help with and thanks for subscribing to 74 gear
Saved this to a playlist so I can remember what to do once I get to the age of getting my private license. (I'm 13)
@@74gear thank you I will ask if I need any!
Edit: Im also planning to start training once im 15.
Love the new Intro!
I am 38yrs OLD CPL with 410 flight hours, this year, I do plan to complete CFI and gain 800hours and 2020 to complete 1500 hours and ATPL and my A320 type rating
Kelsey, this good advice for any profession
Commercial/instrument/multi-single pilot: 260 hours: haven’t been in an airplane in 8 years: 38 years old: 2019: to become a CFI/pursue a career in aviation and finally leave my job
Hey Kelsey.. are you comfortable with doing some kind of vlog style video's? Things like what location you are... and where you're heading. Maybe some flight deck video's (take off, landings, 747 cockpit tour?) Like Kent Wein channel for example. .... I''m just throwing up a ball... of course you.. and your company & colleagues must be comfortable with this.
Beautiful video. Very well made and professional, thanks 🙏🏻👍🏻✋🏻❤️
thanks Lala... I am trying to improve the quality on some of the newer videos but I am glad you are enjoying it.
New Year, same awesome content!
Goals. Take CPL writen in two weeks. Take CPL checkride in 30 days. Get multi add on within 2 weeks of that. Then find my first paying flight gig.
Good stuff man!
74 Gear Very informative! Reminds me to keep grinding one step at a time.
Going after my commercial license start next week 2019 goals
My goal for this year is to get my Ppl. But even if I don't being close to finishing it will be fine.
I love your videos! :) 💕💕👍👍
so i want to be at 250 hours by the end of this year, 2019. so thats 6 months left at the start of july. that leaves me with 120 days after i finish enrolling in my chosen flight school not including weekends. so im going to have to fly for a minimum of 2.1 hours a day monday through friday to reach that goal.
Well did u achieve ur goal?
Waking up in the north...clearing snow...flying a plane with a bearly working heater for $12hr.. you didn't work for Cape Air did you? XD
And my goals, get my ATP this year and get a line as a captain. cheers!
no I didn't fly for cape air something similar though. Thanks for listing out your goals and subscribing.
@@deeanna8448 there are no requirements for the degree either. A pilot could have a degree in psychology.
Cessna Caravan is my goal, just having issues with the medical, cleared for class 2 in Lebanon but can only get a class 2 basic here in Australia
Do a video on WHAT IN YOUR PILOT BAG
that may be something I eventually do...
Your the best, HUGE inspiration to me! Love the videos 😀.
First flight of 2019 to be a solo, get my license, go to ATP, get all of my ratings/certifications, and get my first pilot job.
Ha ha! I hate hot weather so much! I think if I were pouring sweat at DFW, and they told me I was 30th for departure, I’d have taken off my headset, gotten out, and said “that’s it! I’m finding a career as an ice fishing tour guide!” Just kidding of course! This was great advice.
Thank you for great advices!
To solo and get 20 hours of flight time, I'm only 15 so I can't get too much done, but I think this is pretty reasonable, and it'll help me get my ppl earlier than most.
THANKYOU FOR HELPING!
@@74gear No worries. I'm a big fan of the channel😊
