  • Hvar may be known today for it's stunning beauty and luxury but today I'm here for the food! We jumped on a ferry from Split, our homebase for 7 weeks, to Hvar. The stunning island in the Aegean is just under 2 hours from split. When we arrived we were greeted by a festival put on by the Hvar Tourism Board, and we got to try polenta and cuttlefish stew. After a quick hike up to the Fortica Fortress for jaw dropping views, we headed to one of the iconic restaurants in Hvar town, Dalmatino. What an experience this restaurant was. The service was top notch, and the tuna tartare was as fresh as you can get. They greeted us with complimentary carob seeds and carob brandy, along with an amuse bouche of polenta infused with rosemary, mushrooms, and parmigiano. The white truffle gnocchi showcased the incredibly decadent local truffles this island has to offer, in a creamy white wine sauce. And the Brodetto stew with traditional hand rolled makaruli pasta and sea bass was absolutely incredible. The makaruli pasta has a wonderful texture and really absorbs the rich tomato based sauce.
We originally planned for a day trip in Hvar but Andres surprised me with a hotel for the night! Unfortunately we didn't have any clothes with us and we decided, especially considering the rainy weather coming through, that we would return to Split as originally planned. I cannot wait to return to Hvar to explore more of this breathtaking island for longer!
    Chapters:

1:09 CUTTLEFISH BRODET - Cuttlefish Stew with Broad Beans and Polenta. A traditional dish of Dalmatian cuisine. Delicately flavored with tomato, white wine, and herbs found throughout Dalmatia. Many variations exist, the one we had on this day was infused with cuttlefish ink.
    2:58 FORTICA FORTRESS - g.co/kgs/J57r6od
Easy/moderate walk to the viewpoint. The fortress is also accessible by car.
    3:38 VILLA MARIJAM - www.booking.com/Share-Iw4oA8f
Stunning accommodations with a kind and dedicated host.
    3:58 DALMATINO - g.co/kgs/5Eq7jSM
A high quality dining experience. I highly recommend this place.

We went to Hvar and Dalmatino restaurant, you were right, the food is incredible. My husband and I thought it was the best food we had ever tasted…and we are well travelled so that is saying something. We had walked the steps to the fort so was very hungry. Loved the carob seeds & liqueur. So thank you for your Chanel, we probably wouldn’t have heard of that restaurant had we not seen your UA-cam video. 👍🏻😋

If you return here to Italy, come to Genoa (authentic pesto etc. etc.) and the heights of Sori (fried cheese scones, pansoti in walnut sauce etc.). In Recco (Manuelina) you will be able to taste, especially in the evening, the authentic Recco focaccia with DOP cheese (but only freshly baked from the wood oven, be wary of cheese focaccia produced with electric ovens and sold cold by the slice in many bakeries, unfortunately even in Genoa)
