This is one of the most helpful and amazing tutorials I've come across, there's just so much flexibility with this, for the work you're putting out you're also dangerously underrated.
Awesome tutorial. Took me a while to get my head around using it in 3.0 but after triple checking all the setting on my system, i managed to get it to work. It's a shame you haven't done any recent vids, this is dope. Hope all is well.
Just messing around! Work on one element or feature at a time and build it up. Once you got the basics of mixing and masks you can make anything you want, give it a try!
Thank you for your work! I'm stucked at 1:16, cuz I don't have such settings for displacement. UPD: Solved. You need to switch your render engine to "Cycles". That said at 3:10
Hi loved your video, but i have some problem when i change to Rendered it doesnt show me the ice cracks, its completty black. I can see the cracks but not the colour of the ice?
Yes! You could replace the ice material with an emission material, and change the snow to be more like rock. The possibilities are infinite. That being said, I'm planning on presenting a lava shader later in the series, so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it!
This material is designed for cycles. The group input and output nodes are automatically added when creating a group and can only be found while editing a group. Add one of the nodes in the main graph, then press control+g to make it into a group where you can add the rest of the nodes. Pressing tab will let you enter and exit the group.
Don't know why, but the bump texture of my snow wouldn't show up with the values you plugged in, may have been my skybox settings. But this is a great walkthrough! Thanks for making it! (also is there a way to convert this into a texture usable for unity? Maybe without the advanced refraction, sparkle and all that, but a way to at least get the snow displacement and sphere in 3D?)
I'm unfamiliar with materials in Unity, but it should just be a matter of baking the node outouts into multiple textures, I'm not super familiar with texture baking in blender since I do all my messing around inside blender, sorry I'm not able to help more!
The color is affected by light ray depth, so you need geometry on the other side of the plane. Try extruding the plane or using a solidify modifier. If you have the depth you want but not the color, play around with the power value and the color ramp handles.
@@ylemish That makes total sense. I wad thinking of that but I am struggling on a material for the frost. I have the particle system but the material is really bugging please help me. Thank you ror everything
That sounds like a good idea for a video, no ETA right now as I'm very busy with work, but expect the next videos including a frost shader in the coming weeks
Thanks for the tutorial, i've downloaded your tree and it's not appearing in shaders. might be noob question but what am i doing wrong? I'm running blender 2.82
My guy you forgot to put the hdri as that doesnt come up witht the file you dowlaoded , the hdri is in the descritption, dorry for late response , hopefully ur doubt is cleared :)
Holy shit, only 131 subs? uhm fuck yeah! imma share you around in a cgi discord i know. Next, can you do a tutorial on glass and ice, plastic and clear objects?
03:55 For Blender 3.2.2 is CTRL + J

ONE OF THE BEST TUTORIALS I HAVE SEEN
"you can see it's not too complicated"
Hands down the best tutorial for ice and snow I could find,🔥

Glad you enjoyed it! I've got more in the works but work and life has been getting in the way. Cheers!
Holy God in Heaven how do you figure this out i will never ever ever ever ever be able to do these without tutorials. Jesus Christ you're an alien.

Большое спасибо Владимир, я тоже не нашел эту настройку, потому что был в режиме eevee.

Great stuff. Thanks.

This tutorial is great, thanx this is exactly what I was looking for!!! Could this shader be adapted or modified to create lava?

@@ylemish what version of blender was this done in?
This was done with the latest version of the Bone-Studios build, 2.83. It can be found here blender.community/c/graphicall/kdbbbc/
super
Thank you very much ! The tutorial is too fast but it is amazing ! I downloaded your shader, it is really easy to play with, thanks again !
Speed x2, is a nice conversation
That's how I watch all UA-cam videos!
7:55 Can't find "Group Input" am I meant to use Eevee?
This material is designed for cycles. The group input and output nodes are automatically added when creating a group and can only be found while editing a group.
Add one of the nodes in the main graph, then press control+g to make it into a group where you can add the rest of the nodes. Pressing tab will let you enter and exit the group.
How do I create the ice node?
Pause the video @ 7:55 and copy the nodes and values from there. It's basically just a bunch of light-ray math. It also works great for water!

Is there a way to make the ice part of the texture blue like on the sphere with planes? Cause when you apply it to a plane it just looks clear.
The color is affected by light ray depth, so you need geometry on the other side of the plane. Try extruding the plane or using a solidify modifier. If you have the depth you want but not the color, play around with the power value and the color ramp handles.
I don't understand what you did with the add nodes to get the multiply one to pop up with the values already set to .333?
Jump cut :)
I tried appending the material to a different object but it shows up pink, what am I missing?
It's hard to say without seeing the blend file. Upload it here pasteall.org/blend/ and post the link here and I'll check it out!
I AM STRUGGLING ON HOW TO DO A FROST GROWING EFFECT IN BLENDER. PLEASE COULD YOU HELP ME
Dynamic paint and the spread effect is an option to create a growing mask to reveal the frost. I have a dynamic paint primer in the works, but no ETA.
