- What Harley Dealers Don't Want You To Know | Hidden In Plain Sight!
The research will reveal many interesting items. I spent some time digging in and researching. Harley-Davidson Corporate has directives for dealers, but no one will tell you if you don't ask. I want to hear what your feelings are about Harley Finance in the comments below.

I had a dealer who tried to charge me a destination charge for a used bike that was traded in at that dealership. The finance manager skipped over that line. I assume he thought I wouldn’t catch it. It was an $895 charge. He stumbled over his words when I called him out on it. I walked away from the deal. I couldn’t trust them and I let them know that’s why I did not and would not purchase any motorcycle from them. Please be careful before signing any papers.
Yes, you have to be careful before signing your life away. Ride Safe
smart man right here. much respect
Recently went to a Harley dealership to look for my first Harley. Not a single bike had a price tag on it and after running the “numbers” they wanted $25k for a used 2021 Fat Bob. I walked out the door and said you won’t be seeing me again.
They all need price tags. Ride Safe
The only price you should ever discuss when buying a car or motorcycle is what is the cost out the door. End of story. When they tell you well you must have a budget in mind, You repeat I only want to know the out the door price. If they ask you if you are going to trade your current bike say you are unsure. Once you have a written out the door price then talk trade. They are 2 different transactions. If they wont give you an out the door price walk away. I went to 3 different dealers for my Pan America the one that gave me the lowest out the door price is where I bought the bike.
Great advice. That is all I am asking for now. Ride Safe
Remember when people USED TO SAVE their money for the things they wanted?
Now people would rather go into debt for the item they want NOW, rather than saving.
Thanks for the insightful information. I ride a Honda, but the information does pretty much sum up all dealerships.
Take care, ride safe.
You are correct. I need to save to buy my next motorcycle Interest rates are through the roof! Ride Safe
I agree that all dealers work the same. Saving my money to buy something new later might be the way I go. Interest rates are through the roof! Ride Safe
I saved up my money for my 78 KZ1000. I actually had a cashiers check for 3500$ made out to the dealer. They started the regular speal, when I showed them the check and asked if I should get it made out to a different shop? It was wonderful watching the floor guy and manager falling all over themselves to get me out the door. Everyone should do this once in their life.
LOL, I have for MANY years, only negotiated the OTD price! It lets the financing people get real creative trying to hit your number... not breaking-the-law creative, but just... creative. Great video, Jack!
That will be my next go-around with any dealer. Ride Safe
It really is amazing how the prices vary dealer to dealer when I bought my CVO in 2019 ,one dealer wanted over 10k over msrp. so shop around before you buy. Thanks HDR for the advice.
Great tip. Ride Safe
thank you for sharing the info. much respect
Thanks for watching. Ride Safe
Great video advice Jack. My only advice is never ever talk about payment amount, always about out the door. Liking Jesse garage talks
Thanks, brother! I am learning a lot from these comments about OTD pricing. I don't particularly appreciate sitting and looking at numbers for hours. Ride Safe
Great video HDR. I have over 45 thousand miles on my 2017 Road Glide Ultra. Everybody tells me trade it in before 50 thousand. So when the 2024 Harleys come out the plan is to trade it in. This video shed some great tips.
Don’t let people talk you into a new bike based on mileage. The M8 will get you 200,000 miles or more. Buy new when you want to. I am glad I can help. Ride Safe
Hello Jack I actually enjoy this type of video. It is informative and educational. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓
Thank you. I am glad they are helping. Ride Safe
Interesting video. People need to remember to make sure you have disposable savings to buy a toy. Face it, Harleys are big boy toys. If you need to say you can only afford a certain monthly payment, then you should not be buying a Harley. Keep in mind of the Harley Tax. The additional money most spend to customize their bikes. I have a 2018 Street glide that I bought parts and accessories via Amazon and EBay and saved least 50 to 70% off. Buy and spend wisely,
That is a good point, but people must fit the bike into their budget. Most people can afford anything but also have to worry about eating. I also shop for parts wherever I can get a deal. But beware, sometimes the unknown is not a quality product. Ride Safe
I understand that dealerships have to make money, but cmon some of these charges are outrageous. You’re right, best option is to go in there with outside financing.
I found that it worked better for me when I bought the Himalayan. No hidden fees. Ride Safe
Sir great great video.
I always come in with my own financing and i state after doing my homework what I want to pay out the door.
I never never buy new anymore never!
And if I do not get what I want
I walk out, yup out the door I go. Many many times I get the call or get stopped to return. Aka I leave my emotion outside.
You do not get emotional over a machine. All Harleys are the same at every dealer. We have the buyer option to walk away from the steal, I mean deal. Ride Safe
Since I've been recently bike shopping and I find vehicle dealers sleezy, period, its true that HD dealers seems to be more so... I realize there's taxes, title and registration costs when buying a vehicle, this I expect, and plan into what I have to pay. What galls me is seeing a price tag on an HD motorcycle of say; $24,999 but somehow magically the OTD cost is more to the tune of $27,500 and beyond + the taxes, title & reg. 🤬 Not only that, but HD prices(new or used) are many times higher than other brands, yet you get the least for your money. Buying an HD would feel like I'm paying top dollar for a platform to build a motorcycle on....
Everyone talks about resale value. You got the resale value you wanted from the VIC. I normally don't buy something, thinking I will be selling it again. Ride Safe
@@HarleyDayRider .. I bought the Vic to ride it which I most certainly did 😎 Sold it broken, 10 years later with 78k miles on the clock for $9.5k less than I paid for it. I don't know about resale but I damn well got my money's worth 😉
With good credit Eagle Finance was very competative. My only complaint was why did they try to default me to a 7 year loan. When I told them I wanted 5 the Apr dropped almost 3%. They did seem to want me to go to the Parts Dept and shop though the catalong. They were like you can finance whatever you want. lol Thats a trap. They sell the bikes at MSRP with non of those other fees so I did humor them .
I did finance mine for 7 incase of hard times. Lucky for me I paid it off in 5 and saved a load of money. Ride Safe
👍👍 great video. Good information. Catch you later brother.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Ride Safe
Yeah, too many of the HD dealerships love to play games and milk the customer for every penny they can suck out of you. I finally got over the bad taste left in my mouth from my Electra-glide I bought used back in...if memory serves me correctly...1979 and couldn't get rid of it fast enough in early 1981. Under AMF (the bowling ball company that dang near made Harley a thing of the past), many of the bikes were crap! I literally had parts fall off that thing, and it spent more time in the shop than all of my other bikes before, or after it did. A few years back, after seeing so many of my friends that ride HDs that also ride a LOT and not have issues, I considered giving Harley another shot again. The local dealer, which I have since heard a LOT of bad things about, wouldn't post the new bike prices, or even tell me them unless I was going to sit down and start paperwork!!! The prices on their used bikes, from what friends in other states have told me, was what the other dealerships charged for brand new bikes. Man, why do they have to play games with the customers? Sorry for the book. I meant to come on here and say it was great seeing all y'all at VAMM23 and we're looking forward to seeing you again July 11-13 for VAMM24. Ride safe, Jack. Hi to Mary.
It is good to get it out, man. Always nice riding and seeing you. I am sure we will be back next year. Ride Safe
Great video Jack. I never offer what I want to pay, I just want to know the out the door price. LOL, I'm old and I don't have time for the price match game. ... Bob
I hate that back-and-forth. Since doing these videos, I have learned a lot from the buyer like you. Thanks for the feedback. Ride Safe
That's why I will never buy a another new bike or a uesd one from a dealer great video my friend
Thanks! I wish I knew enough about bikes to by one privately. Ride Safe
I have never paid freight or prep on any bike and will refuse to. I have argued these two fees with dealers multiple times. I worked for Chrysler dealerships for years and know for a fact they get reimbursed for prep.
I am glad I could bring it to people's attention. I never even knew this fact. Ride Safe
They have to handle deliver un box and make ready to sell the motorcycle in the first place. But the buyer has to pay for those things. Sweet deal.
I hear what you are saying. But Harley Corporate reimburses the dealer for all prep. Ride Safe
Car, truck and motorcycle dealerships have been raising financing interest rates 1% or more forever to get a kickback from the banks.
That's why I paid off a 35k diesel in 13 months. F making the dealer even more money.
The dealer of my Ram even admitted it outright “Yes, it’s well known we get ‘incentives’ from the bank.”
It shows banks are for big business, not the working class person. Ride Safe
I live close enough to York, PA, can I just pick mine up there to avoid all the freight and shipping charges?
That would be great. They are not allowed to sell directly to the customers. Ride Safe
LOL! I checked with PPG and the paint for other colors does not cost more than Black!
Now that’s just crazy. Ride Safe
I'd rather have a root canal than haggle with a salesperson. Out the door price or I'm walking out the door never to return.
This should be what they want to do. I guess sales people get paid by the hour. Ride Safe
This is why I’ll not go out and buy a new bike right now.
We live in Georgia and my HD dealership is in Corbin Kentucky. 🤷♂️
I hope they will lower the interest rates. How does raising the interest rates help the economy? Ride Safe
Where on the web site did you find this info ??? TY
This is from me visiting a local dealer and many others. Ride Safe
Thanks for convincing me to firmly give up on ever getting another motorcycle again, never mind a Harley.
I just wanted to share some facts. I feel the same way. Ride Safe
HD does NOT own the semi trucks that deliver the bikes to the dealers. They contract with different companies.
Why do the trailers have Harley Davidson on the sides? Or are these only the demo trucks? Thanks for the information. Ride Safe
Ok first you are wrong about asking for an out the door price. Dead wrong. I bought my street glide special in 2020. I said I wanted the out the door price tag on the bike. Got it for 25500 plus 500 dealer fees. Total. 26k. I was good with that. Then I wanted to know my trades. They did great and gave me 12500 for my trades. Step 3 I told them I was already pre approved for the sale at my bank for 4% so they could meet that and I would go with their bank or I'll bring a check and done deal. They matched and I was more than happy with a sub 250 a month payment. I got the out the door price and then allowed them to match my bank. If you do your homework prior to shopping. You are a much more powerful buyer.
So you did ask for the out-the-door price. I need to do this. I get tired of sitting for hours running numbers. You got a good deal. Ride Safe
@HarleyDayRider when I shop for any vehichle I get pre approved for a loan in the full amount I am willing to pay for said vehichle from my credit union. Now I know what the best percent loan I can get and what I can borrow. That's 0 down and I always put money or a trade down. So when I go to the dealer I say I don't care what you have to say or how much you like me. What is your best price out the door. If they won't talk to me in terms I want I get up and leave. I emailed 23 harley dealers in the same email so they all knew who I emailed and said best deal wins. I'll travel 2 states over if it means there's a thousand dollars or more to be saved.
Great deal! Your Dealer is what is referred to as a "Unicorn", since it is VERY unusual for an HD Dealer to sell a popular model below MSRP, let alone without significant added fees.
@GH-cp9wc well the below msrp part was due to covid I believe. I bought at the very beginning when they were terrified no one was gonna buy. I took full advantage.
That’s why people call them stealerships. Ride safe.
I have heard that a lot. Ride Safe
I use a credit union.
Best idea. Ride Safe
Why aren't you talking while riding?
To be honest I can’t keep track of my research while on the bike. I’m glad you enjoy the riding videos. I have a lot of those also. Ride Safe
@@HarleyDayRider It's my ride substitute for when I can't :-)
@@rickybobby6760 Thanks for letting me know my friend. I will have more ride videos coming.
