- So this is a video I did back in 2021. The bike is a 2021 Challenger Limited. Sorry for how the video just ends I had other plans when filming that just didn't happen.
Overall I found this bike pretty impressive. Suspension being one of my favorite aspects of the bike. The test ride limited what you can do but it seems like the bike makes good power as well.

Went on a ride with some buddies the other day and one of them has like 5 for his ultra
I want a shorty for around town and a tall one for touring. Makes perfect sense. The flexibility is great to have. Of course harley will never do that. Gotta buy 2 or 3 windshields for your bike.

I test rode a roadmaster a couple years ago with one.. Totally legit. Its fantastic.
It’s great until it fails. Which it will because indian won’t make it robust. Ask me how I know.
I was on the fence between a RG and Challenger and went with the Indian. 6,500 miles so far and it’s the best bike I’ve owned in nearly 20 years of riding. As far as plastics, both bikes have lots of plastics but the HD does feel more premium, won’t deny that. The electronics on my bike work perfectly and the windscreen is anything but a gimmick. The suspension is plush and that engine is a beast. Perfect blend of sportbike and bagger. The rear cylinder deactivation works just fine. And when I ride with my buddy on his Electra Glide and we’re at a stop light, his bike shakes like it’s having a grand mal seizure while mine sits calmly idling at 1k. I’m good with Indian.
I got a 110000 miles on my last road king. Was still running when I traded it in. I'm curious to see if the Indians will do that kind of mileage.

@@iantman6664 The"shake" is a defect. Bad firing order so you get the "Harley sound" Instead of each cylinder opposing the other, the pistons move mostly together creating an extreme imbalance.
@@wrongthinker350 - The PowerPlus engine can hit the 100K easily with its stock configuration. You might have noticed that some Harley-Davidson enthusiasts proudly claim they've exceeded 100K miles on their engines. However, they tend to keep the details of their engine upgrades a bit hush-hush, LOL, like adding an S&S stage 2 oil pump to fend off sumping issues. Trust me; I've been there and learned the hard way!
Over on the Indian forum, there are several riders who've notched up more than 100K miles on their stock Challengers. 🏍✨

I love the adjustable windshield. Over 13k miles and still enjoying mine.
Laughing at the ride feels like a Road Glide. The Indians I have ridden are lightyears ahead of any Harley in the not beating the life out of you category. I say that with 17 years on a 2005 Road King Classic that I have had to repair everything on since 10,571 miles. The rear cylinder deactivation is to control the heat. Helps to not cook you.
Totally right man, I’ve owned tons of HD and they don’t ride the same at ALL. LOL. That was crazy biased talk. Couldn’t even keep watching after that.

I rode one while I was in Daytona (the Pursuit). I liked it. It ran well and handled well. I like some of the tech. But, I still like the fit and finish as well as the fact that you have lots more options on a Harley, lots of ways to make it your own. I also like the fact that the things you touch are made of more premium feeling materials on a Harley.
I hear you about the feel of the Harley. I like the feel of the Indian cause it reminds me of the feel on a sport bike, which I had many for years before moving to baggers.

Exactly it. I went with a Harley RGS because it had the styling and character that I wanted. Absolutely you get a ton of features for the price with the Indian bikes -- way more 'stuff/features' for the money. That's not at all debatable, IMO. Despite all of that, though, I just find the styling of the Challenger a bit of a jarring combination of classic and contemporary compared to the Harleys that look and feel much more cohesive and classic to me. Even the way HD integrated the infotainment screen of the Road Glide without it looking out of place next to the analogue gauges beside and below it appeals to me. The Road Glide 'cockpit' just looks a lot better and more cohesive to me than does the Challenger's. Since its right in front of me, it matters a lot to me. I knew I would pay a small fortune customizing the Harley, but I also liked the fact that I could customize it exactly as I wanted, and had a ton of choices for pretty much every aspect that I might want to change. The biggest thing that burns me, though, is the stock suspension being so poor. To me that's inexcusable.
More options and a whole lot more money
Inverted forks, brembo brakes, braided lines, fox rear shock, forged aluminum frame, 3 ride modes, electric windshield...
It's a "sport bagger", unfortunately Indian is slowly teething through fit and finish (aside from the FTR, that's art on wheels). Overall it's a wildly capable package.
On third Indian here and the fit and finish thing is getting old! I have had three HD and to me great fit and finish is not having to spend an extra ten grand to make your HD equal to this bike! Because stock HD not even close to any of the Indians!
Probably the most fair review I've seen done from a Harley guy. I went with the Challenger simply because of the liquid cooled engine and the bike just fit me stock. With Harley if you are taller than 6 feet, then you would have to spend even more money on extended reach seats and bars or just be cramped on the bike.

I greatly appreciate someone else's perspective where an honest justified opinion is concerned. You clearly stated what you like & don't like based on your experience compared to Harley bikes. I'm apprehensive on going outside of Harley, since finding a mechanic is likely to be significantly more difficult compared to finding a Harley mech, since I don't have the means to work on my own bikes yet.
Regarding the windshield on the Challenger, I like the idea of an adjustable height, but I'm not a fan of the appearance of the stock Challenger windshield.
Not to be too critical, but when listening to your videos on my PC or TV, this video's audio comes in mono channel, which is a bit distracting to me at least. Aside from that, good video. :)
With this bike and engine from Indian the bar is high. Harley Davidson is gonna have to sink or swim period.
It looks a very comfortable place to be and adjustable screen for me is a winner. The rest is just familiarity,getting used to the features of the bike and how they work.
I don't own a bagger but I prefer the look of the RG and SG and looks are high on the list for most of us. Thanks
"Indian's version of the roadglide". Funny. I didn't know Harley made a liquid cooled, 122/128 hp/tq motorcycle. I know they make a 96/109 motorcycle that you need to dump another 10K into to get to Indian's bone stock, out the door numbers though.

Great review, I test rode the pursuit and it felt nice. But I don’t really like the way it looks and all the plastics but other than that. It felt great, suspensions like you said feel great. I like the adjustable windshield and it had a lot of power.

I loved riding it! I have a 2020 road glide now. Tested the Indian out just last week.. I loved the dash and map being close to me hate Harley’s hard to get to its so far out. Obviously just like Harley’s it sounds lacking so once again you have to get a pipe but think u just face to do mufflers and with Harley I’ve had to spend a semi fortune already with pipes,cam oil pump/plate/suspension shit … Indian wins you have power .. suspension … reliable motor & oil pump fight from the get go!!! I love that windshield how awesome !!! Way awesome that’s one of the best things !!!! There is zero down side. Oh they don’t void your warranty for getting a proper tune like dumb ass Harley
I don't like the Challenger. Sure, it pulls hard when you rev it up but the bottom end is lacking. It doesn't spank you when you up shift and drop the clutch. Plus, the fit and finish looks like the dashboard of a clapped out 80s Camaro.

Indian hands down is whooping Harleys azz at this point in the game. Polaris was definitely the right company to take over Indian. So much more to offer right off the showroom floor compared to anything Harley is currently offering unless you want to take out another loan for accessories to get what Indian puts on theirs stock. They put a lot of time and thought into the Challenger and the end result is awesome especially now that they have had a few years of production to work out any kinks. Indian is absolutely killing it and I guarantee that they will eventually surpass Harley, unless they somehow start caring more about their customers before profits. And the Challenger is liquid cooled, who wants to potentially sit in traffic on an air cooled bike in this day and age?
The only Indian I could ride stock is the Carbon version of the FTR. All others I'd still have to do the same stuff I do to my HD's. That's also just a matter of personal preference. I just bout a 10k Honda and will end up with about 3,500 more in it to get it setup how I want it. Indian definitely makes a solid bike. I tried to ride at least 1 model from each family and nothing bad to say about any of them. I hope they do well. They have a long road ahead though. If you Google US market share for motorcycles, HD is #1 with 23.4% Indian is below 3.2% so they got lumped in with "other". As for liquid cooling you're absolutely right. None of mine are liquid cooled and for that reason if it's over 90 out, I don't care to ride.
Appreciate the reply and your opinion. At the end of the day we all love to ride no matter the brand of choice. Be safe out there and have a blast on your new bike. You been to Sturgis? We just got back, was a freaking blast. Put almost 1000 miles in a few days on the new bike, was like riding on a cloud compared to my Scout.

What did you think of the seat? I remember test driving a Chieftan Darkhorse and the seat felt like there was no padding in it, but maybe it's because my skinny butt is old.
I had one - a 2021 Red Challenger Limited. I had a lot of electrical problems with it, and got rid of it after a year, and got a Ultra Limited instead. Before that, I had an Indian Roadmaster that had the ECM go out, and then the throttle body assembly (which is why I traded it in for the Challenger). I have not had good luck with Indians. I'm happy to be back on a Harley.
Polaris has terrible engineering

I had a victory 10 years ago also made by Polaris. Absolute piece of garbage wouldn't even consider looking at an Indian. Learn my lesson the expensive way. Harley Davidson number one for a reason.

I’ve ridden a CVO RG and base Challenger back to back. The suspension and drivetrain on the Indian are better. The quality of the plastics and switchgear..fit and finish…Harley. But out of the box the Indian is faster and the suspension works. I’d lean Indian on a brand new bike shopping trip. I own a 12 CVO RG…love it..but I’ve had to replace suspension, seat, audio, rec/reg, tune it, etc…to get it right…the Indian would be acceptable out of the box. The CVO RG felt like a hard tail after riding the Indian. #my2cents
Far from being the road glide much more performance than HD . The design of the new Indians is built for more comfort and ergonomics.
Hello from Russia. About the feeling of TwinCam. My first motorcycle was the Ural M67 (very old, from 1980), then the Vulcan Classic 1500 of 1996, and now the VTX 1800. And honestly, even without having HD on Twin Cam, I understand you perfectly. The feeling of the motorcycle being alive is indescribable. Yes, I love speed, VTX gives it to me, but still our domestic Ural is somewhat close to TwinCam and therefore I understand this feeling a little. What am I saying all this for... Yes, Indian is very beautiful, technological, but still the feeling of HD is very pleasant. It's the 21st century, breakthrough technologies, etc., but for us (romantic motorcyclists) there is nothing better than the feeling of "Living in our faithful horse."
By the way, just for the sake of interest, you, as a person who has traveled a lot on HD, could you conduct a test of our Urals, for the sake of a review in comparison with HD, well, it would also be interesting to see the emotions from the test:D

I get what you’re saying about the windshield.
While I understand the desire to have wind protection, I prefer having nothing in front of me.
The more exposed I am, the better I feel.
I’ve done hundreds of miles a day at 75-80 mph and never once thought about needing something there.

I have two Harleys and two BMWs. The BMWs both have adjustable windscreens and I really love them. Don’t take me wrong, I still love my Harleys but the adjustable windscreens on the BMWs are great.
One minor complaint; your helmet mounted camera is annoying when you turn your head quickly left and right at a stop or turn. Very distracting. I get the reason, but you might find a better camera mount. Just my opinion. Great video.

I have one, the windshield is stripped. It works the balls when it does. The power and performance is intoxicating, Don't hit too many potholes with that front wheel, yup, already smashed one of those. The electronics are glitchy as heck. Mine currently has a compression release that sticks causing a hard start. No big deal right? only 9 hours of labor to get to the cams. It's at the dealer for that...maybe. Crazy how good and shitty the bike is at the same time
How many miles and what year Challenger? I've got a 2020 base model, just over 19k miles now. Got the stripped windshield plastic, replaced with the billet CNC'ed part made from a guy on Facebook. Have read on the forums and seen video of the stuck compression release issue, hope I don't experience it myself. I do have the 6 year extended warranty, I'm thinking that was a good purchase at this point.
When I was young and rode sport bikes I used to get scowled at by Harley dudes, now that I'm older and got an Indian, I get the same because they are now the "competition". I think HD riders and Indian riders have more in common than most bikers, but some things never change I guess 😂. HD riders like to say they are unreliable or have electric problems, but if you look at the stats they are just as reliable as HDs if not slightly more so.

Better suspension,water cooled,electric windshield.Looks not too terribly different than a RG.Based on that alone,the Challenger is a no brainer.The test ride decide.
I talked to someone who was a HD guy most of his life, preferring the heritage for most of it, but then getting a road glide several years ago, then getting a Indian equivalent a couple of years ago, but now recently bought a Honda goldwing and he loves it, he said vibrations are hard on him nowadays and the honda is the most smooth and comfortable of all of them. He did say if he was younger a road glide would be perfect. Maybe there is room for HD to make an actual "geezer glide" something that is still HD but is more forgiving in the weight and comfort department.
I think they are toying with the idea of putting the RevMax engine in the roadglide.
The Goldwing is smoother, faster, and more reliable.
Don't like the look of the challanger or the roadglide. But if i had to pick. i think the roadglide looks better since it doesnt have that bulky looking fairing. I know it hides the windshield and sorts. But looks so... Clunky. But i'm also just not a fan of shark nose fairings.
if I remember correctly, the rear cylinder shuts off to reduce heat for the rider when the bike's stopped. pretty neat feature if you ask me.
Best to disable this feature on the Challenger platform, it causes some CEL codes to be thrown for Cylinder Misfire and is also known to put the bike into "limp-mode" when this happens. After disabling, haven't had this problem again... over 18k miles now.

@@jimanders9971 I own a scout and ride with a new LRS 117ST and 114, and pull on them so a 69ci vs 117ci cruiser vs cruiser Indian still has it. Bagger vs Bagger performance Indian has it, only thing they don't have is the fit and finish but I'd rather have a better package as whole then a trendy under powered dinosaur. In a few years when aftermarket and dealer availability has started to catch up Harley is going to be hurting even more.
I think everyone sees the bike for themselves and do not need you to speak of the looks, the suspension, the motor with HP and TQ, the smoothness, the lack of wind, the sound system, it dominates HD RG in every category, no debate. Enjoy 1920s technology on the HD but by the way as HD has an ecu so it will also leave you stranded. Go buy a carb MC.
I love my Rogue Scout. It's fast, it's smooth, it handles great and with a real clutch. Harley's and their over priced oil leaking crap go hit the road, to nowhere.

Definitely not a version of the RG…RG is a dinosaur 🦖 The Challenger is water cooled & more power & technology.
But the road glide is a far superior piece of equipment.
Indian just makes a better bike.
I agree with the looks, I'd love to have one but man that front light set up is fugly.
BajaDesigns LP6 headlight in the PriorPerformance mount really help give the front end a face lift... along with the tinted running lights/indicators.
A Polaris snow ski with 2 rubber tires IMO, I'll stay with my HD 2 wheel Caddie twin cam Rushmore Ultra.

I appreciate your videos. But kind of a pointless one here because you aren't making a direct comparison to the road glide point for point. Who does what better. You work for a harley dealership so I understand. I have a road glide and love it but the fact is the challenger out performs it in most categories. Looks and finish go to harley imo. Power...suspension..tech.. features.. goes to Indian. Let's face it. What you ride is half the fun. Which is why I've come so close to getting the new Indian touring machine but the name harley has won out for me.
Looks familiar. I did that in 2015 on a victory. Bought said victory and 2 years later received drop dead letter And guarantee of 10 year parts support. Needless to say there was zero year parts support. Polaris lost a customer for life. I'll deal with my Harley.
I had a victory motorcycle. A $2 transmission part broke and destroyed the entire engine and transmission couldn't find a replacement or anybody to fix it for a price less than a new motorcycle I'm on my third Harley now would never look back at least with Harley there's millions of Parts you can get to fix your bike

@@carlbruhn1772 I've never had to wait more than 4 days to get apart for my Harleys. You get what you pay for that's why Harley Davidson's demand a high quality price. In a couple years you'll be able to get one of those Indian challengers for 3 grand.
I don't have any issues with Indian bikes, but man do I hate their dealership presence with how they want to sell bikes.
Every single Indian dealership I've gone to has a million posters, pamphlets, ect. mentioning how much better they are than Harley Davidson. Every salesman will mention how they used to work at Harley, and how the Indians never come back for service (which is a complete lie).
They mention Harley more than their own bikes, I might as well go up to the Harley dealer and get one of them since you talk about them so much.
And honestly same can be said about the owners. Every person I've talked to about their Indian consistently brings up about how they didn't want a Harley. Like cool dude, just tell me about your bike.
Funny, I have a 21 Challenger and 16 Chieftain and never seen one brochure that says anything remotely close to that 🤣😂🤣. The low pressure sales at Indian is easy, if you like it , buy it, if you don’t, don’t buy it .
The 4 HD dealerships in within 20 miles of me called 2x/week for over a year.
I love Harleys, but the RG anf SG don’t fit my personal geometry well
My one buddy has a Challenger and it will outrun any of the Harley’s we ride with. Of course even the Challenger cant come close to keeping up with my stock cruiser.
There's literally hundreds of bikes that will outrun a Harley Davidson. But none of them will ever be Harley Davidson.

LOL and that's one of the 3 main problems I mention to people when the Indian brand comes up.
@@throttleblip9854 I had a 2010 victory Vegas jackpot absolutely beautiful like but a $2 transmission part destroyed the entire motor and transmission to the point where it was not even worth fixing had to sell it for parts for a couple grand. Switched over to Harley Davidson didn't regret 1 second of it I'm on my 3rd one now. Road king CVO 110. Spend the extra couple Grand just buy the Harley you won't regret it. I learned my lesson the expensive way Harley Davidson is number one for reason.

How? I like everything but the look? lol. The problem with Indian is the dealer network, no aftermarket parts, and the worst resale I've ever seen besides Victory which is also Polaris. The bikes themselves are great.
That fairing is ugly as he'll, Yamaha came out with that with the retractable windshield and it didn't sale. You didn't go up around 70 and then you'll hear it start to whistle and rattle. I'm not cutting down Indian but they could of done a much better fairing design than that coping the V Twin Yamaha especially with that might price tag. And the biggest problem is the 2 dealerships close to Lafayette Louisiana is St. Rose, Louisiana and Alexandria, Louisiana the sales people are rude and there to busy on there phones to give you the time a day and the one in Daytona. They lost a buyer

If you are seriously thinking of getting an Indian touring bike, you should compare it to a Goldwing or a BMW, not a Harley.
I like Indian's but they are 100 years behind Harley when it come's to aftermarket up grades. That's a big turn off for me.
Yeah for sure. Harley has the lion's share of the market so it makes sense for companies to focus their efforts on HD.

@@jayteesgear I don't know if they will ever catch up with Harley. They have been this way for decades. Harley and Indian started out about the same time. Indian has never been able to take it to that next level. But they do make good bikes. Harley just dominates so much I don't know if Indian will ever be able to get to that next level.
@@davidsizemore2745 it’s kind of foolish for people to even think that the availability of dealerships could be comparable any time soon and then make their decision solely based on that. The reason being is because Indian has been up and down for decades and are finally making a solid comeback, whereas, while Harley has gone up and down as far as ownership, but they’ve consistently been producing bikes even when Indian fell off. So of course there are gonna be more dealerships and independent mechanics. It’s not like Polaris bought Indian and before they dropped their first bike went out and bought billions of dollars worth of dealerships and employees across the country to match Harley. And they can’t grow to a so called acceptable level of dealerships and independent mechanics unless the demand goes up, which means people have to buy them. Yea it may suck for now with the dealerships so spread out in comparison to Harley but it’ll never get better if people don’t buy the bikes. Same for the aftermarket. And if Indian just isn’t your thing cool, nothing wrong with that buy what you like, love whatever you get, keep the rubber side down and have a fucking blast on twos, but if you want an Indian and the only thing stopping you from getting one is the number of dealerships or the aftermarket, then you’re really just adding to the issue by not getting it.

the late model Indian technology and engineering is better than Harley…but….the quality of the Indian parts and the reliability of Indian totally sucks. i just traded in my 2019 Indian Chieftain for a new 22 RK. My wife’s 2019 Indian Roadmaster fits her well but has multiple tech and mechanical issues. On the Chieftain and the Roadmaster both had the front fork seals fail at 10K miles. The Roadmaster has a known issue of the engine turning itself off in mid ride…Indian has no answer for the problem. The electric motor that runs the windshield up and down strips the plastic screw that runs up and down on the worm gear.

@@Stevel_ apparently you don’t know the history of those two companies. Harley-Davidson is in the same building and continuously manufactured for 120 years. Indian is merely a name resurrected at least 4 times by various investors. To each his own, I’ve demoed Indians and Victories over 20 years and never cared for anything but the motors. Everything else looks like a Japanese wannabe.
