Tell you a funny story about the first time I saw this movie (WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD): I was in community college when it came out Andy female friend had already seen it and wanted me to watch it, so I went over to her house one afternoon after class. After the time jump in the beginning, I casually said "so what, is he dead the entire movie?" And without missing a beat, my friend turns to me very nonchalantly and says in an incredulous yet natural tone "No, that's stupid". And for whatever reason, I bought it completely. So when the ending finally came around, I looked at her, mouth agape, and pointed with a huge grin on my face. She laughed, proud of herself. I literally guessed the ending, but she wanted me to have a good viewing experience that she lied to my face. I am forever grateful to her for being such a solid friend. 😆

To answer your question at 21:00 the girl's mother suffered from a mental illness called Munchausen Syndrome which is that she either lies and says that someone else is sick (usually a child) or purposely causes that other person to be sick so that they get the sympathy and attention from it. In this case the girl's mom was poisoning the girl with floor cleaner like Pine-Sol (Fake brand used in the movie for copyright issues) in her food. If you notice the girl's mother wasn't actually grieving the death of her daughter like the dad was and the fact that she was wearing red (a common color theme used by M. Night throughout this film), she was actually enjoying this moment as if she felt accomplished. All in all, this is like one of the last good M. NIght Shyamalan films before they took a dive. Better for a reaction because most movie watchers know of this movie, and you could see it in you that you've defo not seen or heard of the scene. But the scene between Cole and his mother in the car when he comes clean to her; proper punches you in the feels. Defo in my top 10, likely top 5 scenes that made me cry.

I saw this movie when it came out, and you're right it is also good on a rewatch, because then you can catch all the little hints showing that he's really dead. This movie cemented M. A really good film. This, Unbreakable and Split are M. Night’s best work IMO. I’m not really a fan of his later work due to the writing and dialogue for characters in those films. But I can’t deny he knows how to make creepy and atmospheric films. And while people may rightfully mock his dependency on twists, ones like here and in Split work really well

Have you seen "Frequency" with Denis Quaid and Jim Caviezel? There's a kid in it that has the nickname Gordo. You kept mentioning your patrion member and that made me think of this movie. It's in the suspense realm too. Also love your reactions and hope your channel continues doing well!
I'm amazed that you didn't know about this twist. This movie is what popularised the twist at the end in movies. Fight Club and The Others followed suit.
When you go back to look at this film again , notice the color red and a sudden drop in temperature. That’s when a ghost is present. M. Night Shyamalan, the Director, likes to put himself in each of his films just like Hitchcock did. He was the Doctor who questioned the mother about the marks on Cole.
"Hey come on ill show you where my dad keeps his gun, come on." That scene was always a crazy reference to old anti gun commercials. Yeah the mom killed her daughter with Pine Sol, which really was messed up.
I was 13 when I seen this in theaters, now as a 30 something adult I just found out that the crazy Guy in his underwear at the beginning is actually Donnie Wahlberg from Blue Bloods a new kids on the block… I couldn’t tell cus he lost a scary amount of weight to play that role 😳 I love this movie also born and raised outside philly I usually love M Knight Shyamalan movies

BTW, that Indian guy in the lab coat . . . that's the director. He always gives himself little cameos, a la Alfred Hitchcock (who is a big influence on him).
50 first dates is an Adam Sandler Drew Barrymore movie where they're in Hawaii and she's got some brain damage where she can't retain new information overnight since her accident for over a year she's thought it was her father's birthday and her dad and brother basically play up that it is that day everyday and for that birthday she got him the tape of sixth Sense so every day they watch it and she gets the plot twist for the first time and they are no longer shocked and not even trying to fake it
Yeah everyone thinks when they see the movie and hear about the twist that the twist is I see dead people no Sweet Summer child that is not the twist The twist is that the guy he told the secret to is one of those people who doesn't know they're dead
Malcolm also wears the same outfit throughout the movie. Sometimes he has on the coat & sometimes the sweat shirt but he never changes his clothes from the original scene. Also the color red was used as an indicator when a ghost (including Willis) was around. Fantastic movie. Great reactions, thanks for sharing.
Loved your reaction to this. Talking about how you expected this but then also accepted and was excited about how you got it wrong. And then talked about how it all made sense with Riis new perspective. I just subscribed. I want to watch way more of your reactions 🙂
Every time you saw something red in a scene, something important was about to be revealed to you in this movie, right down to the red door knob near the end. Excellent movie!
Impressive that you went into this fresh! Gosh it's still one of my favorite movies of all time. I love how you can view this movie as literally as the story is, or about kids who are going through something that everyday people just don't understand. They shouldn't be bullied for that. We should all be understanding for what people are going through that we don't understand.
That was floor cleaner going in the soup. Looked just like a Pine-Sol bottle. There have been cases of people like moms becoming obsessed with taking care of a sick person, being a caregiver. I guess if the girl started getting better the mom couldn't do it anymore so she had to keep her sick. It's called Compulsive Caregiving.
God I love this movie so much! Another paranormal movie you might like is Ghost with Patrick Swayze. It has a different tone than this film, but I still really enjoy it. Great reaction :)
Watched a number of these reactions and it's the first time I noticed the gun was Bruce Willis' character's. The empty holster was there amongst the broken stuff.
TONI COLETTE WAS THE MOM IN THIS?😮 Wow. No wonder i have a specific connotation with her. I tend to do that with actors; one specific role will immortalize them in my mind, and it's all i see in every subsequent movie they're in. I don't know why. I did the same thing with Sarah Paulson, i realized i had freeze-framed her from the small role she played at the end of Firefly, when i first watched Bird Box. Lol When i was watching Hereditary, i had a tugging in my mind at Toni's amazing performance. It was like her frustration and anguish was familiar and it seemed to fit, and i couldn't figure out why. It was THIS movie. It created a snapshot of her face, voice, expressions, demeanor, everything, and it stayed with me my whole life. 😍😍
I bet Anna blocked that door to the basement cause she could hear all the sounds downstairs as if her husband was there after his death - papers moving, furniture, tapes etc.
Losing family is hard. My grandpa died before I was born, mom died in 2003 when I was 19, grandma died in 2007, uncle died in 2014 and my dad died 2 months ago.
This is one of my all time favorite movies! I saw it in the theater with my now husband and the whole theater gasped at the realization that Malcom was dead the whole time! Another one like that with a twist ending is The Others with Nicole Kidman!
Another way to tell he was dead, they put the color red in the scenes with him and those alive. Like at the dinner with his wife, look for red and the door handle being red.
7:06 - "Secrets about him? About the powers he has?" At this point in the movie, there is no indication that he is anything but a depressed kid. He hasn't told anyone, including his mother or the audience, that he has powers. You slipped up. You revealed that you have already seen the movie. I'm sure a title with "FIRST TIME WATCHING" gets more clicks, especially for a movie with a twist ending, but you have definitely seen this before.
Kudos for being the first person I've ever seen make such an accusation while pointing to something specific in the video as evidence. But likely he was referring to the apparent telekinetic powers that Cole had seemed to demonstrate in the scene where all the kitchen cabinets and drawers were opened during his mom's very brief absence.
The first time I watched this movie back when it came out I assumed off the jump that he was dead because no one ever interacted with him. I assumed it was just a given I never understood why it was a plot twist lmao. I wish I could have had that experience that most people had lol.
I get most movies - I really do - but this one got me lol - I didn't have a clue the entire time. Is a great movie to watch and I've watched it a few times.
From DVD Extras…yes DVD…if no one has mentioned it…The color Red is the bridge between the after life and the real world. I think. Bruce Willis wears the same clothes he died in. Just layered different.
you should rewatch this movie immediately. it's so clever, you'll notice all the scenes he's in, no one but Cole talks to him the whole movie it's crazy how well directed this movie is that you don't notice that the first time through it's a masterpiece
Director M. Night Shamalyan likes to be in his own movies. He's the doctor in the hospital in this movie who talks to Cole's mom. Some of his movies are good to great, others are wtf.

There was a few law and order episodes that show cased that disorder. I think one episode was actually about the case where the girl killed the mother for making her sick
Theres a reason why this movie was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar...one of the best
Man it was refreshing to see someone react so shocked at the twist lol, it’s been years since I’ve seen a true reaction, so thanks ❤️
Mate I've watched this several times and even though I know what's coming I always lose it at the car scene, awesome acting.
That scene ALWAYS makes me cry.
After seeing this movie it was my favorite for a while. I love a great twist, and this one was one that I didn't see coming. Such a great film.
So interesting to see people watching this for the first time and not realising Bruce is dead
"From the director of The Sixth sense, we bring you, The Last Airbender" is like saying
"From the director of The Godfather, we bring you, X men origins Wolverine"
Why you gotta disrespect wolverine like that 😂
Francis Ford Coppola also directed the musical *Finian's Rainbow* (1968), starring Fred Astaire and Petula Clark.
The Village is cool movie from M.N.S too. It's not as well critically acclaimed, but I liked it.
Oh man, I love it when they’re surprised like we were back then! 👏👏👏
A really good film. This, Unbreakable and Split are M. Night’s best work IMO. I’m not really a fan of his later work due to the writing and dialogue for characters in those films. But I can’t deny he knows how to make creepy and atmospheric films. And while people may rightfully mock his dependency on twists, ones like here and in Split work really well
Yeah I'm not really an m night shyamalan fan but those movies are good a lot of his other stuff I may or may not have watched it just out of curiosity but I'm never really a fan of his other movies those are very good highly recommend
Unbreakable and Split are great. Glass however…
@@NoThoughtAllFeels glass was nowhere near as good as the other two in that trilogy I mean there was a lot in that movie that I didn't like I just don't think I will ever rewatch that movie the other two sure
20:50 "..... not necessarily poisoning, but giving her something that's killing her, right?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
define poisoning 🙂
The doctor talking to the Mom about the bruises and scratches on Cole was the director, M. Night Shyamalan making a cameo appearance as he often does in his own films, a bit like Tarantino.
You definitely are one of my favorite movie reactors, this movie will stand the test of time ut was so well written and acted. My little brother hasn't seen it and he somehow has never been spoiled with the plot twist I can't wait to watch it with him. Hope you're recovering well 💓
If you look back, you'll realize that no one but Cole and his wife at the end even interact with him.
Always kinda bummed i knew the twist before watching this, so its great to live a blind viewing through this king!
25:10 love the facial expression when the penny drops!!
First time I saw this, I never noticed that he never actually had any direct conversations with his wife or Coles mother. Shaliman rocked the house with this film!
This movie is a masterpiece honestly.
One of The greatest Bruce movies. Imo is top 10
I mean as far as Bruce Willis movies I I got to say some of the best in my opinion are this Armageddon and unbreakable I I mean I know there's others that are really good but those are the ones that pop into my head
Yeah... exactly... this is the movie you have to watch at least twice to catch every amazing detail. Do it! :D
I watched this for the first time like 2 years ago and i did not expect that twist. So happy it was never spoiled for me
Love it when folks don’t figure it out till the end. Thanks for the great reaction!
Watch it again and pay attention to the color red
The teacher had to have known the history of the building right? I get why he wouldn’t tell the kids, but he had to know.
The doctor who was accusing the mother of hurting her child is the writer and director of the movie. He just made a little cameo appearance. lol
This movie made Haley joel osment one of the youngest oscar nominees ever
He is only on screen for like 5 minutes, but this is Donnie Wahlberg's best performance ever.
Loved your reaction to this. Talking about how you expected this but then also accepted and was excited about how you got it wrong. And then talked about how it all made sense with Riis new perspective.
I just subscribed. I want to watch way more of your reactions 🙂
Thanks!
Please watch Unbreakable. It’s one of my favorite realistic comic book films
The kid that played Cole has been voicing Sora from Kingdom Hearts for like 20 years.
15:07 lol the way she explained that was because that was _her_ ring.
Watch it a second time knowing the twist and you'll be like oh damn look at all these clues lol.
Also I love watching peoples first time reaction to this movie, I could see it on the your face the second it clicked for you about Bruce Willis😂
WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD...
The marks on the kid were from the spirits. The scars show hes been dealing w this for a long time.
God I love this movie so much! Another paranormal movie you might like is Ghost with Patrick Swayze. It has a different tone than this film, but I still really enjoy it. Great reaction :)
The most unfortunate thing is after you see this twist for the first time you’ll never be able to again.
Haley Joel Osment competed for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award against Michael Clark Duncan (Green Mile the same year) and they both lost.
Such a great reaction! And I’m glad you didn’t know the twist! So many people do even if they haven’t seen it 😊👍
This is my second favorite film of all time after Titanic. I love this movie sooooo much!
One of my all time favs , amazing twist too. I always get emotional during those last 2 scenes ….
Watched a number of these reactions and it's the first time I noticed the gun was Bruce Willis' character's. The empty holster was there amongst the broken stuff.
12:23 That quote is from scary movie also lol when shawty goes "I see dead people" while high 😂
Another thing most people miss. When they stuff cole in the closet at the top of the stairs...he was screaming "don't kill me".
24:06 you should cry dude, that's an emotional moment. 😢 she just found out that she makes her mom proud.
TONI COLETTE WAS THE MOM IN THIS?😮
Wow. Lol
When i was watching Hereditary, i had a tugging in my mind at Toni's amazing performance. It was like her frustration and anguish was familiar and it seemed to fit, and i couldn't figure out why.
It was THIS movie. It created a snapshot of her face, voice, expressions, demeanor, everything, and it stayed with me my whole life. 😍😍
16:31 "chili chese fries sound bomb right now bro, i'm going have to put on my walking shoes after this." 😆🤗
Brother, I recommend that you see The Village and Signs
I bet Anna blocked that door to the basement cause she could hear all the sounds downstairs as if her husband was there after his death - papers moving, furniture, tapes etc.
Losing family is hard. My grandpa died before I was born, mom died in 2003 when I was 19, grandma died in 2007, uncle died in 2014 and my dad died 2 months ago.
My horror movie reactions are usually pretty popular. Probably because both horror movies I've reacted too, I've been a fan of
This is one of my all time favorite movies! I saw it in the theater with my now husband and the whole theater gasped at the realization that Malcom was dead the whole time! Another one like that with a twist ending is The Others with Nicole Kidman!
being the 800th like is very satisfying
One of the greatest plot twist ever
Another way to tell he was dead, they put the color red in the scenes with him and those alive. Like at the dinner with his wife, look for red and the door handle being red.
The doctor who implied the boy was being hurt, that’s the director
I love this movie it's one of my favorites Tony Collette is slowly becoming one of my favorite actresses she's incredible
the doctor who talks to the mother is the director m night shyamalan who always appears in his movies
Cole knew the whole time that he was a ghost.
Talks about family values...30 seconds later has his mind blown like we all did the first time
7:06 - "Secrets about him?
I remember watching this and Fight Club in the theater around the same time. Two great movies with two great twists.
Blair witch project was also in theaters at the same time. Really solid lineup of movies in 1999
Awesome twists, but both of them are easy to work out
I get most movies - I really do - but this one got me lol - I didn't have a clue the entire time. Is a great movie to watch and I've watched it a few times.
From DVD Extras…yes DVD…if no one has mentioned it…The color Red is the bridge between the after life and the real world. I think. Bruce Willis wears the same clothes he died in. Just layered different.
you should rewatch this movie immediately.
it's so clever, you'll notice all the scenes he's in, no one but Cole talks to him the whole movie
it's crazy how well directed this movie is that you don't notice that the first time through
it's a masterpiece
Director M. Night Shamalyan likes to be in his own movies. He's the doctor in the hospital in this movie who talks to Cole's mom. Some of his movies are good to great, others are wtf.
