My dad and I use to paint houses and we must have painted hundreds of Board and Batten sided houses in Wichita Ks. they were usually ruff cedar. It is a very common siding on houses all over the place. It looks great! Many houses like this in wealthy neighborhoods. We always caulked the cracks until the siding was air tight. Helps on energy bills and makes the house less drafty. Caulk each batten and every crack to seal it up weather tight they have clear paintable caulk.

Very good work . Pretty working weather. Lots Board batten used today in Ga. Including on my place.
I like the old Ford work truck in the video. I owed one like that in early 80s.

Wood siding is stunning. It really blends in with your beautiful surroundings. Vote against tin on the bottom. If you have enough wood, wood siding all the way to the bottom.
Thank you for allowing your viewers to ride along your family’s journey.

Vote for tin on the bottom; it echoes the roof.
Wood on the bottom is not as durable/practical.

Yeah. Personally, I'd also prefer wood all the way down.

Yep..That tin ruined the look.... problem is the foundation was poured for a garage/shop.... and not a high enough cement to do what Heath is trying to do... if he wants it to look rustic the settlers would side with wood to the ground... all he needs is crushed rock around the foundation to keep mud from splashing up onto siding.

I like... It make the home look eclectic and different .. plus matches the roofs. I think the Board and Batten gives the home a Scandinavian sort of look , well I think so ... Again I like the look of your home... A Great Home .. .Ninette Bird , The Caribbean Wife.

It really really is looking great. That rustic look you were going for is dead on. What sets it off is the scroll work on the rafter ends .
I like the metal on the wall at the back door, hope Cedar likes it too.

Thank you so much for reducing the pollution even just a little by shutting off the truck to get out and open the gates. You seem to be a great friend of our Earth. Get there, build a fire, and get to work. Always a great beginning to have a warm spot to take breaks in later in the day. The siding looms great.

so very cool and your right some of the things we love about rustic building was once considered cheap and for the poor and that why so many log houses where boarded over and painted just so people would think you were not so poor

As I have mentioned in other post, I enjoy watching videos of homesteading, cabin construction, design and ultimately a finished product. The thing that appeals to me is when the channel author shows the tremendous ability to do these things without the constant talking, just enough to explain to the DIY'er. Great channel and look forward to many more videos.

You have built a beautiful home! Funny, we used wooden board and batten on our home 10 years ago because it was cheap. We are now restoring an older (rental) home and decided to use vinyl board and batten so we never have to paint. B & B has gotten to be very popular in the south. Best of luck to you as you complete your home! I love it!

I like the way Americans build houses, especially what you did just from scratch. I know your intension, so far I understood it, as a German, and appreciate it! For sure, we in Germany have far harder inspections, regularities and way higher building standards, I can tell. My brother use to build a house 2 years ago, it was very stressful for him. Here we build in concrete and cement. You cannot fall into a wall. :-) Maybe some people build those Sweden House Style what is made with timber. But for us here in the northern German region (Berlin) is it not that popular to build that way ever since. But I like it what you set up by your own hands....cool. You're really a HARD Worker...
