All of you are as capable as you let yourself be 😉
Only takes a day of studying to learn a trade/skill these days. The internet is amazing.

Yes Mike Thrapp, You can learn a skill and part of a trade in a day of studying, but you cannot learn a whole Trade in one day. I spent 5 years as an Apprentice Electrician and 23 years in the Electrical Trade and I still will never know everything. Residential is only a small fraction of the work we learn and do as an Electrician, and by far the easiest, there is so much more. And most other Trades work the same way. Yes, I use UA-cam myself to learn skills, but I always try to stay humble and remember that I am only a Professional when it comes to the Electrical Trade. No matter how much studying I do on the internet, I will only be a Handyman at best, at those other skills. I have also learned a lot from working side by side with other Trades people. Learn all you can from the internet, but make sure it is taught by professionals if you can. I have learned a lot about plumbing from this channel, but I would never ever claim to have learned the whole trade. I have learned a small amount of Plumbing skills from a professional Plumber. Learn all you can, but remain humble

I love the tin too. I hope the addition roof holds the snow that will shed from the main house, it doesn't look like it has much pitch. Amazing job, great video ,all around a great series for me and my kids to watch.Thank you.

I thought adding the tin was a make do project, compared to adding stone. But it looks much better than I thought it would ,and it is at least as protective as adding a stone veneer. If it works for protecting the lower part of your home walls you win! If you can decide to go with stone later you so are covered both ways. I'm glad you got the driveway squared away that will make life much easier for you and the family. The water well and tank seems to be working okay. It will be interesting to see the water heater install and see how you deal with hot water and the power demands of a dryer in winter. Not being a troll, as washing clothes and drying them is always a challenge in winter when you are off grid!

My husband made the kitchen and bathroom cupboards in our 2 story house in the back of our shop and he inlaid the tin into the doors ...when we moved to Wyoming I wanted the inside of the house rustic like it had been there 100 years, I think he achieved that goal

  • @sulebo2153

Great work! Moving in Spring is exciting! I agree giving yourself a deadline is the only way to achieve a goal. Speaking from experience, just don't move too soon. Finish trim, closets, flooring, etc is no big deal but the kitchen and bathroom must be finished to every last detail for a busy household or you'll be miserable.

I bot one of those incliners at "relax the back" you should sell them on your channel. I had a terrible siatica pinched nerve, from falling on my roller skates. The first time I used the incline, in 20 minutes,, the year long pain was gone, forever. You are in such good shape, because when you speed up your video, you do a full cardio routine...for the 8 hours you are working.Yoga along with the inversion helps streach the kinks. You are amazing. Take care. Your wife and family are really blessed to have you. A perfect man. God bless you.

I love the way the tin looks now that you have it finished. It
would look really nice if you made some window boxes for the lower windows, fill them with some insect repelling plants and some bright red geraniums.
I'm sure you've got some old farm/barn tools that could be recycled into some planters to add around the house, too, fill them with herbs that will be handy when you're cooking. Maybe the kiddos could make these for their Mom for Mother's Day.
Love watching your changes every week, wow, you'll be moving in soon!

With the area under the porch you could make the top of the tin a shelf for Cedar to put some plants. You could also put some hooks in the underside of the beam for hanging plants. I think the rusted side looks better too.

Have you ever heard of a Thermal Mass Wall? Basically it is brick, stone or even concrete mass behind your wood stove to absorb some of the heat and then radiate it back out during the cooler hours. Since you haven't finished the interior yet, might be something worth looking into. I like the worn side of the tin out also, very good look.

I like the rusty tin look better than the cleaner side on the back porch. glad you didn't go the reality TV direction, they would have just focused on all the things that go wrong and disagreements between you and your wife/kids. this is what America needs/wants more of, and not all the name calling from other TV shows. have a great new year while getting your family into the new home.

You put the rust into rustic ;). With you doing most of the work by yourself and depending on how you want to finish the house (wood or sheetrock), I can see you finishing by the first of April if you stay at it, and maybe towards the end of April if you do a lot of fine woodworking for the finish. Also have to add in quite a few days for doing the septic system, which I haven't seen you do a video of yet, nor do I know what they make you do for one out there. That becomes a question of when does your ground thaw enough to let you work it correctly; septic systems can be a pain to get just right.

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  5 років тому

Our septic system is installed below the frost level. The only concern I would have would be water sitting on the leach field and that's not an issue for us.

I really like the look of the rusted tin on the outside at the bottom of your house. It adds a lot of character and charm. I’m going to have to try this. Have you heard of Darby at Tiny Texas houses? He’s eccentric but a true artist. I visited him once to see some of his techniques. He uses milk paint, walnut oil, tung oil and old wood. He repurposes everything. I also like the idea of the thermal mass wall behind your fireplace suggested by Chris K. In fact, I think I’ll do that, too.

Suggestion wool socks! Feet and hands (with cutouts). You are right about the tin, enough is good too much is ugly. When the sheet rock is up but not taped and muddled do a walk through with Cedar and maybe Mom. You both are anxious to be there your Mom might spot a needed fix before fixing it becomes a big job.
