Wow, I am mesmerized by your determination. I watched the first two videos and I just could not stop watching you build, build, and build. My thoughts was that you must really love what you are learning and have so much love for your family! Just wow!!
Wow! That tin siding looks absolutely amazing! I'm gonna file that one away in the back of my mind and probably steal your idea one day (hopefully lol) Thanks!
I can certainly understand having many things stuck in your head. Your approach is perfect. One thing at a time. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Always focus on a solution. Not the problem. Your perseverance is highly commendable.
He kept that axe because it worked. We had one growing up that was a hand me down from my the Grandfather I never met. Learned how to replace handles on that axe. Older brothers couldn't split wood with it. :)
I like the way you do your videos, the time-lapse with the voice over and always nice music at the proper level in the back ground. don't know if you know this or not, but some paint stores can color match your caulking to anything you want. Sherwin-Williams I think does it and their are also others. some will make you buy a case of caulk (12 tubes) but others will do one tube orders. it works out really nice for certain projects. hope you and your family have a happy new year.
Good for you for going back to finish these details. Another homesteading channel on YT recently said "Sometimes the temporary become permanent" and if you don't stay on top of little details, and just knuckle under and finish the details it can become easy to walk past those little details and start to ignore them (this is my experience anyway). Finishing the details and calling the project "done" is well worth the time invested. A project like this is a marathon, not a sprint and a key contributor to the long term success is your peace of mind and mental outlook on the project. Finishing the details and making yourself feel good about the status of things reinforces the fire that fuels the rest of the progress. You simply can't motivate the body for very long without motivating the mind. And finishing the details serves to motivate the mind if you're one who likes to have the details finished (which I think you are). You have to learn to drive yourself, and if a deviation from the urgent to something else that is bothering you is what it takes, then it is time well-spent! Keep up the good work.
It’s absolutely amazing that you have done all this by yourself! Love seeing the progress! All that hard work is paying off and will make a wonderful home for your family. Can’t wait to see moving day 😉
I love the house! I absolutely love the way you used the wood & tin, I have never seen it used like that! I’ve seen it on the roof but not as siding! It’s a beautiful farmhouse! I can imagine your wife n kids are chomping at the bit to get moved in! My husband remodeled & added on to our home. I love that year’s from now our kids & grandkids will know that their papa built this house! You did a beautiful job, you should pat yourself on the back!😀
You did the right thing finishing the siding now its done house is weather tight and any work done inside is not at risk of water damage. Its also off your mind which is very important like you said you can move on and focus elsewhere. You keep doing what you have been doing it will get done.
Just love those colors together: the rust brown of the wood, the blue-gray with rust of the tin, the black accent of the windows! Instant age and character!
Of course you needed to finish that project. It looks mighty nice. I'm a list checker myself and if I can't finish things they just stay in my head, wearing me down. Creating a homestead from scratch means your list will never end, so of course priorities shift with weather and resources but staying focused is critical to mental health :) Enjoy the process.
Your place is coming along nicely, and again thank you for allowing us to experience your excellent skills create such a beautiful home for your family. Incredible house, can't wait till you complete it and move in
Give me AZ any day! I don't like snow and cold! I can't wait for winter to get done. I am anxious for spring to come and get a garden started. Good luck with your winter days.
Caught you outside again Heath! I knew the O.C.D. in you would get you back outside -- Again -- you have such a knack for making a beautiful home! Love it all! Happy New Year.
We moved to Wyoming 3 years now from Southeast Texas. Until we moved here, I had lived in Texas my whole life. We visit, and I feel like I'm gonna suffocate. Lol. The house is beautiful! You're doing an incredible job!
Gotta admit I was not keen on the tin, but now the trim is on and it is all done, I really do like it. Your ability to visualise a finished job before it is begun is an amazing talent to have.
Again another amazing post and it came out beautiful at least in my eyes it’s beautiful, happy New Year’s to you all, May 2019 bring even more joy to you and your family.♥️♥️♥️🥳🥳🥳🎊🎊
Beautiful. I would love to see how the stain looks on the tin. Completing a job really does help you to focus on the next job. Looking forward to your next video.
Looks amazing. Keep up the great work, stay warm, and may the new year bless you and your family with a great house to share many wonderful memories. :)
Do you want to even know how nice the weather has been down here in Orlando? Enjoying all of your videos. Thanks again for sharing your work. Very entertaining as well is educational.
I saw this on some show on DIY or HDTV and it turned out great. It was new, so they let it patina for about 6 months and then sealed it so it wouldn't completely rust. I like that you are using the weathered side. Building stone is so hard to find in and around Teton Valley, I am thinking of doing the same thing. Looks great. Keep up the great work!
I was skeptical in the beginning about that tin but it looks great! I just bought a house and watching all your videos has given me the impetus to do a lot myself. Thank you.
Well today now is January 2 2020 , exactly one year after this video ....I started watching about 2 months ago and this is how far I got....289 down and 100 to go until I catch up ….Really enjoy this .
LOL - that's something my grandpa would've said about his axe he's kept his whole life. I inherited his sense of humor....I call them sleeper jokes. You put them out there and see who gets it! Funny thing is that joke went over most of your viewers heads!
Very nice I want to say I'm not only seeing things in your video I to want to build my own home someday. But I also can tell from your videos the enormous amount of character you have and I to would like that to someday lol thanks
Looks really great!! Just a little side note. I did some (BOTTOM)trim to an addition similar to yours and it lasted for a few years. The silicon and paint ended up cracking with the expansion and contraction of the wood trim. It ended up rotting the wood trim from the inside out and the framing behind it. It was suggested to me to remove the trim on the bottom or replace it with cedar wood. I know you stained your wood and only mentioning this to say. Make sure you keep an eye on your caulking! I was also reminded of the splash zone also. The rain will deflect off the ground onto the bottom of the wall. I had 2ft over hang on my roof. But anyway it does look GREAT ! LOVE the look 😍
You know this as well as anybody. You will notice things others will never see bc you did it all. I think the silicone will be fine and that stain might look pretty nice too. Love this channel and can’t wait to see what the future holds. Thank you and I hope 2019 is awesome for you and your family!
Your philosophy reminds me of a favorite quote of Goethe: Concerning all acts of initiative and creation there is one elementary truth - that the moment one definitely commits oneself then divine providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred and which no man could have dreamed would have come their way.
Great to see the outside is all Finnished. Loved the Axe joke !!. The is a sitcom in England called only fool's and horses, There's a clip called "Triggers Broom" It's on UA-cam somewhere. It's worth a look.
I've watched you since the beginning and I must say that you are a hard worker and also a committed family man - God bless you and your family - the only thing I would have done different from what you did - is put old brick down at the bottom of the sidling - I can picture how that would look and I think it would be better than the tin - but its your call and as long as you and Cedar like it that's what counts - it is something how some people work hard and accomplish so much while others waste their time on things that mean nothing in the long run - take care - Joe
Hey, love the, videos and the speed at which you do your work, relaxes me after a hard days work on my own house. A small tip for the water management between the wood and tin is a flashing like an extended J. That will boot the water out, maybe a retro fit for next summer (worth the pain). Best wishes for you and your family in the new house, oh so close. Ive still got at least another year to go, love that you have come from an arid climate like me to something else, though my vice is rain not snow.
Except that last window and the siding/trim THEN the rear door. But true 90% of the outside is finished and it may require the spring thaw to finish that 10%. So it is time to do the electrical and what you really know, the plumbing. Step at a time.
Don't know if a home like yours would pass inspection, building regulations UK, but boy its sure looking good. I admire your tenacity to get a job done and ultimately to get it right. I have followed all your vlogs and do look forward to the next episode. I do hope your health gets better and all the very best for 2019 to you and your family, not forgetting the dog.
one thing I really like about you videos is like I was about to ask about drainage on that tin. and bam you tell us. i'm still not sure about the tin but I do like the ideal of maybe a stone or something.
Your home looks beautiful! The metal siding is so amazing! It seems like just yesterday you were pouring the foundation! Can't wait to see what 2019 brings to Red Poppy Ranch! May God bless you abundantly this New Year.
Your place is awesome! I have watched your channel from the start. You and I have a lot of the same ideas and goals. I am looking at property in the Salmon, ID area to the same as you. Your home is absolutely beautiful. Keep up the great work. Some day I would love to chat with you and maybe come see your place in person. Thanks for the videos. God bless to you and your family. Steve N
Tin looks amazing, I know your not too struck on the idea that it shines, apply a tiny coat over the existing, then grab some dark sawdust or grind some concrete down and grab some of the grey dust, then as soon as you apply the silicone, blow some of the dark sawdust or concrete dust onto the top it will stick and give you a matt finish, the dark concrete dust will work as it will match the dull patina of the tin, and boy you will be proud of yourself, trust me it will look awesome. Good luck. 30 years in the trade I've picked up a plethora of small but affective tricks, some good, some total crap 😅 but generally it gets results, and good ones.
Looking great. Quick thought on the stain for tin... it will likely flake off after a year or two as it wont actually bond to the tin and will expand and will contract with temp at different rate to the tin itself (from experience).
Your videos always inspire me to complete my projects around the house.
Jake totally agree 😀
Your house is looking so nice great job the tin looks great ,
Wow, I am mesmerized by your determination. I watched the first two videos and I just could not stop watching you build, build, and build. My thoughts was that you must really love what you are learning and have so much love for your family! Just wow!!

I know, right?
You make ants look lazy. 👍
Following the progress you're making on this journey you and your family are on has been amazing. TY!
You are so humble, your family is so blessed dad did an awsome job!!

Yay! Outside almost done. I DO like the tin siding. The rust is lovely.

I am the exact opposite regarding weather- cold hurts, heat is uncomfortable-you are a work animal, more power to you!
I admire, envy and respect your work ethic.

Looking great, the rest of the tin makes the house look awesome. Thanks for sharing

Love Love Love it! 8 degrees in Montana this morning too. 3 degrees yesterday. I love the cold and I'm the same, I hate the heat!
NiNi to #6 and at 8 +/- something is happening you don’t necessarily see. Bugs are dying. I live in Texas..lots of bugs because .. few freezes.
You can always add layers. You can only remove so many..... Before getting arrested :)
@@MrTrikidiki oh I 100% agree! Lol I am a Texas girl. Just moved from Texas to Montana. Our son and family live there.
@@chadmerkley9465 that is always what I tell people. It is the truth! Lol

Really like the tin on the lower part of the addition , can’t wait to see the finished house . You and your family have done a great job :)

The detail on the rafter tails are much more obvious on this lower shed roof - it looks great!
That small window seems like it is taking forever to come in!!! Looking good and can't wait to see the interior work!!
Love watching a craftsman at work. I enjoyed watching Nick Fouch too but sadly he hasn't been on youtube lately.

Great work! You have a great talent.
Nice job on the siding sir. It looks fantastic! That silicone color will fade enough over the course of a year that you will never notice it.
