Being we are farmers my son showed for 4-H market hogs and steers. He won champion Hereford steer and also champion carcass two different years. He also showed his Herefords and Shorthorns and garnered many championships. He also exhibited in various corn classes and won many best of shows. Now he shows Scottish Highland Cattle all over the country and lives in South Carolina.
Lacey and the 2 girls should start a Chanel and document their journey over the next year towards the fair, and anything else along the way! Fit Farmer Girls🤷♀️
Brought back lots of good memories of 4-H club activities, fair entries for county and state ❤ driving my little pony with her cart and dressing up for the costume class as a miner 49er with a packpony instead of a packmule😊
I've entered in numerous fairs since I was a kid. Now I'm retired and look forward to our local town fair. I had 35 entries in total. 18 was photos and also plants and a few crafts. Came home with 16 1st. 8 2nd's and 5 3rds. I'm happy with the results.. Nice to see you out with the family.. From 🇨🇦
I used to enter stuff in the fair when I was a young mom. One year my 18 month old's drawing (basically random scribbling) got a blue ribbon .. so fun.
When I got married in the late 80's, I sewed my ring pillow using the same laces that were in my wedding gown. A friend recommended I enter the pillow in the Ventura County Fair and won a blue ribbon! It was fun and easy and exciting. All the winners were listed in the local newspaper too. Something to tell the grandkids now that I have them. I agree with you, it should be a family project that everyone can use to expand their personal talents. Maybe the kids could get their friends to enter too. And it could even help them find their niche in life. You never know what could come of it.
My mom and I entered pineapple plants that we started from pineapples we bought. My mom woke 1st place and I took 2nd place. It was a lot of fun and something we did together.
Helped my 82yr old mom make apple pie and Shoofly pie to enter into our local fair. She did that every year I remember and retired in 2017 when her husband passed. She won a second and third place ribbon. I wish I would have tried harder for her but it wasn’t a total wash out and the ribbons are on her fridge right now.
My family was in 4-H growing up and we always entered something, mostly baked goods and vegetables and I think one of my sisters entered a sewing and photography project. Next year be sure to look at the entry guidelines!
My family went to the local fair yearly. They showed baked goods, rabbits, and had 4H livestock(calves two years and pigs one year). It was a very busy week each summer.
Two years ago, I entered canned fig preserves. It was the first time I made anything with the figs we grow in the yard. I actually received best of show. This year I entered some crocheted afghans and a bar of coffre soap I made. Each received a ribbon which was nice.
That's hysterical! I remember going to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Fair Grounds as a small child with my mom. We rode a ride where you stand up straight, but are held in with straps...and it spins round and round!!! LOVED IT!!! My mom could barely walk off the ride...fell into the grass...and BARFARAMA!!! It was soooooo FUNNY and embarassing at the same time! Of course, we had to go home after that, and my time was cut short! I'm 57...STILL love roller coasters and rides that go round and round!!! LOL!
I am 71 years old and have never been to a county fair. I cook, can, garden, and sew would love to participate! Never knew of any local. We live about one hour east of Abilene Texas.
Bumper cars!!!! In the Redwood Forest CA. They had bumpercars. We couldn't believe it, we went often and had lots of fun 1972/3. Those were the days of youth and NAVY. .I was laughing so hard with you at the fair. Lets see, what will you be entering next season.❤❤ Love and praying with you and the families in the hurricane and the world. GOD BLESS EACH OF YOU IN JESUS'S NAME AMEN SE MICHIGAN 🙏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️🇺🇸🀄😎 THANKS FOR THE RIDES🎉
Most likely the fair has a rule book online and you can check out categories and rules. You can be prepared and present your best! Lacey's mom can help you too! Good luck for next year!
Laci, that jade pillow is really cool. Try using a hot water bottle under it and then layer the jade pillow on top, then you sit back against it and as the jade heats up is provides a soothing and penetrating healing heat. You could also use an electric heating pad if you use those.
I haven't followed your channel for a bit and I can't believe how big your kids are. And a new one as well! The problems in Asheville made me come back and check on folks from here.
Don't feel embarrassed by not liking those crazy rides. The merry-go-round is too wild for me, too! I don't get car sick, and though I fly a lot, I have never been airsick even in really rough weather, and I even liked doing dipsy doodles in a helicopter! However, the only ride at the carnival that I will go on is the bumper-cars. As for entering items for the fair, I won a blue ribbon on my bread when I was twelve. I was an old pro by that age. We are all cooks in my family. Looks like you all had a good time. Thanks for taking us along! Love you all.
We love the fair! My husband is like a kid 😅 ours is in Feb so we’re looking forward to it as always! We ho every year and we love the circus and livestock..glad y’all had a great time!
We were a huge fair entry family; we still enter a few things every year. We actually enjoy that part of the fair more than the rides. You don't have to make things in a rush either, throughout the coming year after your fair is over this year. If you make something, set it aside somewhere safe and mark it fair 2025.
Growing up we went every year and getting older I can not do rides LOL - but this year my older sister enter quilts I believe she got about 2-3 ribbons.
Hey Mike and family! Wayyyyy back in the dark ages when I was a child. My parents took us to the fair every single year!!! Rule #1 was we could not go on any rides until we had looked and talked about every single animal at the fair. At the time my dad was a College Professor and his love for learning spilled over to myself and my 2 siblings. The three of us had absolutely NO fear of any of the rides 🤩 I was a dare devil at fairs, and amusement parks, until I gave birth to our first child. Something clicked in my brain and I knew it was time to say goodbye to all of the mammoth roller coasters 🎢 and the other thrill rides 🎡 From that point forward my husband would have to ride all of the roller coasters by himself or with friends. I have MANY MANY MANY awesome memories ❤ I am so glad your boys tried a few rides even though they were totally out of their comfort zone 🎉 Memories to last a lifetime ❤
The last time I went on rid 7:357:397:40 es my daughter was young so we went on some rides found out s few days later that my appendix had burst had. But my doctor didn't believe me. Lol later started entering the crafts for art and ceramics was successful so it was fun. Still like fairs.😊
Fun video, enjoyed this. Great job Josiah! You need to enter your poultry Mike. In years past I’ve entered a variety of vegetables, jam and apple pie. It was always so fun to go and see what I won. Fond memories. We still enjoy going to our local fair. Val C
How opposite to me. I wanted to go on the most dangerous rides and my parents would not let me, i had to go on the boring ones. I wasnt even allowed on bumper cars.
I have entered crochet baby items in the fair I made a sweater set for my grandson when he was a baby and won a blue ribbon and cash for my entry. I made a pie one time and won 2nd place and have gotten several blue ribbons.
Once I hit my teens I turned into a real daredevil on the rides(still am). The scarier the better. When my family visited Dollywood my brother-in-law had sis and me laughing so hard. He'd get on the little kiddy rides and scream and yell he wanted his Mommy 😂. As for the contests I used to enter paintings and crafts. I still have the ribbons in a notebook. But it sure was fun.❤
🎪 You got the FAIR bug, Mike! It is so fun to enter the fair. Been doing it for 20 years. Don’t the 4-H children enter in your fair? I’ve entered photography, sewing, canning, jewelry, vegetables, garlic, herbs, plants, and maple syrup. I was surprised to see animals with horns(that’s not allowed at our fair). Oh ya I saw a donkey at your fair. I thought that was awesome. It’s not even a category at our fair. When my son was in 4-H he won grand champion two years in a row on his garlic. The judges were different those two years. I highly recommend entering the fair. Watch the judging and you will learn a lot. Thanks for sharing your family.
I haven't really liked roller coaster 🎢 rides in my life. But in the 70's I decided to try the smaller, adult, roller coaster in the later 70's. I was even persuaded to try the higher roller coaster. But, I 'm done, I did it in my late 20's, but no more. Lol 😊 know what I mean?
you folks cuz of the hurricane I have heard about the other homesteaders but have not heard from you I am praying for you
May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the homestead and animals

My daughter won a cake decorating contest when she was 12.
It was a pretty sunflower cake!
Congratilatios

Lacey. I know exactly what you mean about taking time with your friend. Been there didn't do that. Wish I had. Smart momma.
that's going to be FUN the entire family - each - entering a contest. am looking forward to that already :)
I used to show my Belgians at the fair, and my youngest son showed his 4H steers and heifer. We had Hereford cattle

Thank you for sharing your day at the fair. I enjoyed watching your family having a great time they deserve it!!!!

My two children were in 4-H and entered pigs, record books, rabbits in the county fair.
I dont do roller coasters either but my kids love them!

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ You guys are so very wonderful!!!!
Thanks for taking me along! I LOVE our state fair of Texas but can’t afford it these days 😢🙌🙌😂
LOVE LOVE roller coasters! Things that spin round and round, no way! Yup, car sick.
I love the fair and have judged lots of fairs as a county agent. Sad that kids are not as interested as they used to be!
THAT was completely Awesome watching ❤
I'm with you Mike on the rides.
Looks like a good time was had by all!
I'm definitely afraid of heights.
I hate heights 😔

So glad to see you guys enjoy the Faire❤️

It was nice seeing you guys at camp
