I met Paul Revere and the Raiders and lead singer Mark Lindsey in the early 1960s when I was 12. I'm now 75. I was working at a roller rink (not for money) behind the counter handing out roller skates and repairing them when necessary. I did that to pay for my own skates and lessons. On the weekends, most roller rinks were also music venues. In the summer of 1962, Paul Revere and the Raiders came to our town and roller rink. I helped them unload their equipment and then Mark Lindsey asked me if they could skate. I put the band on roller skates and we skated around for almost and hour. They were so fun! But then my 'boss' told me I was too young to stay for the music show, so I had to walk home. I said good bye, but Mark Lindsey picked me up in his arms and said thank you for the skating. I will always cherish that memory.
I rushed home from school every afternoon to watch "Where The Action Is" with Paul Revere and the Raiders. Loved them. Paul Revere was a Revolutionay hero and they took advantage of the reference to wear those uniforms.
Mark Lindsay is a great singer and showman. Thxs for shining light on an almost forgotten great singer and group. I loved this great song back then still do.Many very good songs in their catalog. Also Mark had a few very good songs, Arizona comes to mind. Definitely drugs were around much especially late 60s.
@leannmiller7153 cool! They probably made several appearances on Shindig or Hullabaloo or both. The cool thing for me back then I would wait for singers/groups latest recordings. To me the 60s were the best decade for music.
Another great rock band from the 60's-70's. They were known for including Revolutionary War-style clothes in their attire. The band had their first hit in 1961 with the instrumental "Like, Long Hair". "Indian Reservation" was one of their biggest hits in 1971. But they had a lot of great songs such as "Just Like Me", "Hungry", "Let Me", "Arizona", "Him Or Me - What's It Gonna Be?", "Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon", "Good Thing" etc
I was just. kid, but they were the headliners for the first concert I ever went to, with my mom and sister (who was in love with the lead singer). Never missed their tv show, Where the Action Is.
It's pronounced Paul RE-VEER and the Ray-ders. Their costumes were in reference to the American revolutionary was hero Paul Revere who road through the night with the warning "The British Are Coming, The British Are Coming" so the people could be ready for them when they attacked. Paul Revere was a silversmith by trade.
Paul Revere was one of the original band members and they played on the name of the Revolutionary War hero also named Paul Revere - whick is the reason they're wearing Revolutionary War uniforms. Paul was the organist - the singer was Mark Liindsey.
Wow....... What a total FLASHBACK. I couldn't take my eyes off the girls dancing. They appeared on a couple of tv show.... "Where the Action is" and "Happening" back in the 1960s. Take care...
Along with The Pusher and Snow Blind Friend by Steppenwolf, this is one of the earliest anti drug songs. Lindsay was considered a pop idol and his face was plastered all over those teen beat magazines that were popular at the time
I saw them in 1970 at the Michigan State Fair, check their song "Indian Reservation" to be Politically Correct Native American Reservation. Peace 😊✌️ and Love❤ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary 🕺💃 Great Reaction👍
The featured dancer reminded me of Goldie Hawn. What a time it was. There were many music shows on TV that targeted teenagers, like "Where The Action Is", "Hullabaloo", "Shindig", "American Bandstand", & "The Lloyd Thaxton Show", that I recall.
I was born in 1949 so the 60s was my era for music. Most of the dances for teens and TV music shows introduced Go-Go dancers on stage with the bands and that was certainly the case for the two rock bands I played the drums with. Back in the 60s you have to remember we felt the pressure of the clean cut 50s look with the influence of the Beatles who introduced the mop top hair styles and initially wore suits when they performed. As drugs became more prominent in the music scene the hair grew longer and the suits disappeared being replaced by paisley body shirts and flared trousers with cuban heeled shoes. Fortunately, I didn't get involved with the drugs but I definately did with the dress culture back then.
Those are revolutionary war uniforms based on the midnight ride of Paul Revere, where he rode through the towns yelling, " the British are coming the British are coming", and they British came musically in 1964 known as the British invasion with the Beatles leading the way and I was there to see it and I was only 6 at the time, but remember it like it was yesterday.
Those uniforms are representative of the American Revolution uniforms. According to the history as it is taught in America, Paul Revere was the person who rode through town shouting, "the British are coming, the British are coming."
Love this group. I was only 7 or 8 when I first heard this song, around 1965-1966. I had 3 older siblings and whatever they were listening to is what I grew up listening to! Another really good song is “Good Thing” from 1966😁
Ok you two are now knowing more about my music than me! I've heard this song but never knew it was Paul Revere. I have (still) on 45 rpm. INDIAN RESERVATION! The "B" side is BIRDS OF A FEATHER 🪶 Great Reaction!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸 New songs is tough because (for one) it's hard to re-re-re-say something that's been said a thousand times and repackage as New!! Regifting!! Until it gets forgotten and comes back and people think it's new and gives praise and that one guy says NOPE!!! Been done! And then they say HEY!!! You and your antigravity chair is in the way Gramps!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Starting at 01:37, the girl dancing next to Mark Lindsay, the lead singer, is the actress Goldie Hawn, who got her start dancing on the television show "Hullabaloo". This is a clip from that show dated February 21, 1966.
Part of this song's sound is the electric 12-string guitar, which had been popularized by the Beatles, and then the Byrds. Very much of the moment in 1966. PS: this song was offered to the Animals first - it would have worked great for them, right in Eric Burdon's vocal range.
Saw them with Beach boys 1st concert.. payed 7.00 for tickets....paul tevere was based on the the revolutionary war hero wjo rode his horse to warn people the british are coming the british coming...so they wore the clothes of the time....if that makes sense in my weird explanation...ha...
Terrible audio should have gone with studio release. Paul was the keyboardist and Mark Lindsay on vocals. They were known for those types of outfits and also for goofing around during their live performances which I think hurt them. They have many good songs but may not have been taken seriously when people consider the bands from that era. For several years they hosted a show called Where The Action Is which featured musical acts and dancing and such. Often taped outside on the California beaches.

What a cool story! 😁

Loved them.
Paul Revere was a Revolutionay hero and they took advantage of the reference to wear those uniforms.
Same here! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Oh baby come on .....let me tell you where the action is...

@ same here. I had to save up babysitting money, and allowance, so it took time before I could buy them.
Also, Silver Bird, Indian Reservation.... more i can't remember too!
Great band from the 60s and early 70s. They had many many big hits! ❤❤❤
Jim Valley who was the guitarist in 1966 for them is my neighbor and still going strong at 81.He is an awesome guy!
Those 60's songs kept us entertained back then.
Thank you for reacting to this band. They had many hits in the 60’s. Mark Lindsay is the lead singer.

Hungry is an absolute banger by them.
omg i used to see them on tv as a kid on a tv show..hullaballoo?
They were the house band on Where The Action Is which was on tv daily from 1965 to 1967. They did make appearances on other shows too.
Paul Revere and the Raiders were a tongue in cheek answer to the "British Invasion" in rock music. 😄 Thanks for sharing! ☮❤🎶
One of the first anti drug songs
I was just. kid, but they were the headliners for the first concert I ever went to, with my mom and sister (who was in love with the lead singer). Never missed their tv show, Where the Action Is.
I was able to enjoy their shows when I lived in Reno, NV:).
Joyful dancing.
I was born in 1965 and remember my older brother's and sister playing all this music and I enjoyed it all !!

One of my favorite bands back in the fabulous 60's.

The song writer wrote this for a girlfriend who had a drug problem! PR and the Raider’s ‘Cherokee Nation’ is a classic song about cultural inclusion!

It was indeed Goldie Hawn.
@@joeyrobison5362 She was cute on steroids. I'm reminded of "Laugh-In".

Good British rocker back in mid 60’s,thanks…hungry, just like me and good thing I like too
You can’t see it in this video, but Mark Lindsay’s ponytail was very unique for the times!
They had some good songs. Try the Grassroots.
Another good ole song , I’m sure you’re going to enjoy it😊

Goldie Hawn front right with the Hullaballoo dancers

You have a good eye, yep that's Goldie😊
Those women were called Go Go Dancers!
The sixties were the best. Thanks
The greatest year for music 1966 from the greatest decade the 60$
Everybody should check out the song Powder Blue Mercedes Queen. What a great song which never got much airplay.

Paul is the keyboard player.

Mark Lindsay and his ponytail.
"I'm Straight" by The Modern Lovers
Recommended reaction is to Chicago: Wishin you were here, needs to be new years rockin eve version with The Beach Boys, you will love it.
Nobody has mentioned " Indian Reservation"? I think their only GREAT hit!
I think there is only two of them left
It's Paul "ree-veer"...

An anti-drug song...
Very early anti-drug song…

Yes, it was at least better than today.
