I did this to my new 2022 rav4 with the standard 6 speakers and was happy I did. Replaced the front dash and door speakers with JBL Club 3020 and JBL Club 6520. Used wiring harnesses from amazon. Did not use an amp and found the sound was much better. Lots of people suggest an amp, and I did not want to get that deep into it. I am glad to say it sounds great without and gives me all the audio I need.
Both JBL boxes state "high sensitivity for great sound even with factory stereo power" and it is true.
I was not a huge fan of taking apart the door or drilling the rivets (high risk of scratching and something going wrong) so if you are not super handy, you should have it done professionally. The dash speakers are super easy tho.

So all you did was change the speakers and it sounds good? I have a 2019 no special head unit or anything and the audio sucks. I also dont want to get that deep into it though.

I have a 22 Tundra and added a Beat Sonic mini amp. It has OEM plugs and tucks in behind the stock stereo. Best part is you don’t have run any power supply to the battery. I was skeptical but it sounds so much better, and super easy install.

The "crossover" is more like a bass blocker, no? I don't see the outputs for the woofer on it? If one was going to wire a traditional crossover with outputs to TW and WF is its clear which of the wires in the harness are in vs out to the door?

The 2022 RAV4 Adventure with JBL system uses the Metra 72-8109 wire harness for the 3.5 speaker in the dash, not the one in the description or video. Luckily, I bought 3 sets just in case. I will be returning the red wolf harnesses.

    Couple of questions:
    1. Thoughts on component speaker system vs 6.5" pair for front, and 3.5" pair for dash?
    2. Do I need an amp or changes for the head unit for this, or could I just do what you did in your video and have a clear improvement? Less work, and cheaper.
    3. Suggestions on a good system? Are the alpine a good choice? Thoughts on Focal ASE 165 or performance 165ASbcompared to that?
    Thank you!!

I used an 11/64. But for me, the cap of the rivet started to spin after a little drilling, so the whole rivet spun. I had to wedge a screwdriver behind the cap to drill further and pry it off, or pry it up enough to get a needle nose pliers in there to hold it in place so I could finish drilling it out.

Not only does it show the process of installation, it helps debunk the information that the Crutchfield web site spits out regarding the installation of this specific Alpine speaker and the 5th gen Rav4. The web site says that the Alpine R-S65C.2 will NOT fit in the Rav4 door. lol
