Thank you for the very well explained video. Would it be possible to support the door panel slightly off to the side without removing the door lock electrical harness and still be able to remove the speaker?

Anything is possible lol, but honestly it’s easier to just remove it. Less chance of any damage.

Can you make a video upgrading the subwoofer?

I actually have that video in the works, adding a subwoofer. Just need some time to finish it. Should have it in the next week or two!

Great video! Why you chose Kicker but not JBL?

Mostly due to wanting to try out the kickers. Also the JBL seemed to lack a little treble and the kickers seemed to have a decent amount so I figured they would be a nice match.

Bad speaker choice… these are 4 ohm speakers and will sound bad (lower volume and less power) compared to OEM since they need an amp for full potential. The JBLs or the Infinity Reference series will be the best upgrade since they are 3 ohms (will sound louder at all relative volume level) so they will work better with the factory head unit, and they are also more sensitive than the kickers (kickers are 90db, infinity and JBLs are 93-92db). Also, they sound great with an external amp… speaking from personal experience, when powering from a factory head unit, 1 ohm difference and few dbs extra are a day and night difference

The 1 ohm doesn’t really make a difference, at least in the doors, especially with the stock head unit. The stock head unit distributes power in a weird way lol. I have replaced the kickers with a set of Infinity reference REF607FSL in rear, and JBL Club 64FSL in front. The volume difference is very slight, but I was looking for a little more midrange. So based on firsthand experience I would say it really doesn’t matter for the most part. The biggest difference was changing out the dash speakers.
My advice to anyone wanting better sound would be change the dash speakers and a small subwoofer. Changing the other speakers will be a minimal difference and will require at the minimum an amp to push them or a different head unit.
Thank you for watching and for your comment 👍. Input is always appreciated so people can make a more informed choice!

How was the sound quality after you changed the stock speakers to those Kickers you got?

Noticeable improvement. Bass was about same, treble and overall clarity was improved. If you’re adding a subwoofer you’ll be happy, otherwise if you’re wanting more bass this may not be the way to go.

@@DoItTogether2022 I am pulling door panels to add second skin to cut down on noise intrusion. I am needing clarity, treble, and a bit more volume but don’t want to add an amplifier so am debating replacing speakers while I add the second skin. Any thoughts on this or another comparably priced speaker to install and did you only replace the front door speakers? I need to call crutchfield and talk with them. I do have the kicker dash speakers coming to see how that affects audiobooks, phone calls, and music as a first step. Love the video, very well done and thorough. This video is providing the insight I needed to tackle the second skin install.

@@philstrader8753 Glad it helped and thank you for the kind words!
As far as speakers, I’ve replaced both front and rear doors. Going to add an amp most likely. I will say the biggest difference was changing the dash speakers, and adding a subwoofer. I would do the door speakers last and probably only if you’re going to add an amp.
