I've owned well over 100 guitars and this was the very first Music Man that I've ever had. Blown AWAY! Even over PRS, Parkers, Gibsons, Carvins, Ibanez, Hamers and Fenders, etc. It's truly unique, in a class all its own and plays like a dream with incredible tone. Especially with the non standard layout of the 5 way Strat type pickup selector. 1= Bridge, 2= Middle, 3=Neck, 4=All 3 together in parallel and give it the Fender Dire Straits twang, 5=Neck & Bridge together. Much warmer than a Firebird. Love them so much that I got a sunburst one with the solid rosewood neck (which is incredible in and of itself!) AND the blue one with the figured birdseye baked/roasted maple neck. The gun stock oil and wax blend on the back of the neck is smooth as silk and the profile is round and beefy, like I prefer, having big hands. The standard MM 4+2 headstock layout is also a first for me, with the B and E strings having a shorter distance from tuners to bridge means less tension for easier bends, with the upper E-G more taught for lower action without buzz. Yes, they're not cheap, but you get what you pay for. 5 STARS!

I was like “ holy shit, there’s that guitar!” I did some investigating and was really impressed with the backgrounds of both St. Vincent, an accomplished and creative musician, and the guitar and how it came about. Very cool.
having a light guitar, short scale, with a short whammy and small humbuckers and a body shape that suits the female form to really get in there and play is actually really important. i play heavy guitars less, big thick guitars, i play them less... because they add a level of difficulty and discomfort that has nothing to do with that i can do with a guitar... often this means i have to go with a knock off guitar that is lighter, has cheaper elements... the stvincent breaks that mold. heavier isn’t better.... id like to see a bass built with these ideas in mind too.
It's has a mid century modern vibe, and I likes that she mentions how it's flattering an asthetically appropriate for her particular musical direction.
I picked one up, because it reminded me of those old Budweiser bowtie guitars. Played it, and loved it, so bought it. Had NO idea who Annie Clark was, and had never heard St. Vincent. Although it's for the female form, as a man over 50, I love how it cradles my moobs. Since it's a girl guitar, I compensated by putting truck nuts on it.
I know right.. i want one so bad but just dont see myself spending 2 grand minimum for one. I'd rather snag a gibson or fender for that amount. Although one day I am sure I will buy one due to the rosewood neck.

Congrats!!! not just beauty, she can talk guitar!!!
The Premier Guitar video review lets you hear the guitar in action. The pickup switch selections are unusual but useful. For such an angular body, it looks to be comfortable enough, with the front body taper for the picking arm. PG says it's a little neck heavy, and that the neck feels a little "long" because of the attachment point and the body shape. I'd be interested to test drive one, to form my own impressions.
Westone was a guitar brand from the 80's that made models similar to that design and short scale.I myself have a very similar Westone Concord I very similar but with other electronics, they were made by the house Matsumoku guitars, they are rare to see nowadays, but they are great instruments, although they are also very undervalued
It looks cool (specially the black version), it sounds great. The lack of access for the high frets kinda bothers me, i think that the angle of the lower corner on the neck side can be increased, son instead of being like an almost flat shape, it can be a little bit like a super short E type pointy style, but keeping the retro yet futuristic vibe of the guitar.
It's the kind of guitar I need .I like the body design and how she got the ideas she did from her harmony guitar. for example like the longer fretboard and a whammy bar with more stable intonation.
There’s a guitar shop in LasVegas that has custom guitars. Called Romans I think. Been there once. Very nice people. They have guitars there made out of sawblades and in shapes of skulls and stuff. Cool place
Jack heavily modified his by routing it and adding full size humbuckers (Lace?) and adding a second switch under the neck pickup. So, it's entirely different than what you get with the original spec.
It's the humbucker that give it the flexibility, I use firebird mini humbuckers from Stewart McDonald's, and halfway finished with a solid body neckthrough mandolin and starting a 38 inch guitar also that one your holding seems alright it does look too slim in the waist and looks like players could have balance issues when sitting but that's just me, good job on originality that one could easily sport the Budweiser ribbon lol
Not at all a fan of her music but it's cool that she got to design her own guitar. I do wish she'd brush her hair though - makes it look like that guitar has a serious wiring issue. But maybe that's part of her guitar's Jetsons appeal? Not sure if I like it or hate it, but kudos to her and Music Man for having the courage to design something so different. Different is inherently interesting.
Are those tremolo bridges functional, or are they as useless as the other non locking tremolo bridges? In other words, does the guitar stay in tune if you use the whammy bar?
it's the best tremolo i've ever used. you can use it exactly like a floyd rose, with zero tuning issues. if i had to say something negative about it, i guess i'd say that it's a bit stiff feeling. but overall, it really is the best trem i've ever tried. (and this is coming from someone that normally *hates* strat-style trems.)

MyworstEnemy Non-locking should on be a problem if you're diving down to the point where the strings are sticking to the pickups otherwise if you're having issues the nut is probably poorly setup.
That's one of the main reason she got a recording contract but who cares how a musician looks music isn't for the eyes . It's for the ears the heart and soul . It's a shame a shame that's what music jazz gotten to be . BTW she's supposed to be a great guitar player and we didn't hear play one thing here . A jazz standard with no effects to hide the fact that you can't play very well . A great guitar player would have played something .
I am not kidding, my second guitar build is gonna be a version of this with a few tweaks for myself.....I mean damn that shape is just off the hook cool, it's retro-modern? The Jetsons house bands guitar player would straight rip on this guitar, the Roswell Rhoads, and hell idk what the 3rd one would be let's go ask VAI!!!? Haaaaaaaa
Interesting how guitars designed by men have lots of curves, while this, perhaps the first prominent guitar designed by a woman is more angular. This shows a lot of care and thought behind the design, and the benefit of a whammy that leaves the guitar in tune cannot be overstated. The uncomplicated knob appointment (2 and only 2) leaves the guitar looking like an instrument instead of a control panel. I can't wait to try it out.
The neck and fret board are the smallest i have ever seen on an electric guitar!! Its very interesting and fun and funny its funny its fun its just fun
I think all guitars need to be minimalist in weight. You use a guitar to entertain, not to have a workout. Besides, weight gets boring after the 1st hour on stage.
Says she’s a gearhead... Uses a Kemper as her amp. Has her keyboardist/backing vocalist to trigger her effects. That’s not a gear head. By any stretch. She was until her weird self titled record.
The interviewer needs to play different guitars then ask the guitars the questions they are asking to it,......plainly speaking. Play them and figure it out. So many questions could be asked that have meaning
I love her music, BUT I'm not sure if she was caught off guard or something, but what a bad interview. She seemed really uncomfortable and unsure of what she was saying. I guess one could say her confidence is on stage, not infront of a camera.
Yeah that stood out to me as well. That statement comes off as if she's more worried about her looks on stage then she is about her performance... Like the guitar had to accommodate to the desired look first, and be a decent instrument second.
I think it's a coded way to refer to how female anatomy interferes with the height she holds her guitar. A narrower guitar body means certain things don't get in the way! Who doesn't want their signature guitar to be exactly what they've ever wanted?
Adam Wayne Yeah, I see what you mean and I must agree. It is a sign of well-rounded-ness to consider the looks when coordinating with clothes, lighting and the rest of the show in mind. But that does not make a great instrument, it makes a great set-piece. To me, as a musician, looks always come third, after sound and playability, the things you actually need to perform. Not saying she actually did the following, but this video makes it seem like she designed her instrument with priority to looks first, playability second and sound at a distant third. Personally I have never played one of these, so I can not tell you about the sound or playability, as those would be best described by an owner of this instrument. But what I took from this video is that she couldn't find a fitting guitar matching her wardrobe, so she designed one that did... She made a strat with humbuckers(small ones, for the looks) and a custom body-shape and her neck of choice! All focus was clearly on the looks, not an interesting sound, electrical ingenuity not even custom wiring for out-of-phase or custom pick-up selections, none of that while she was at it! If you like it for its looks, fine! But it is just a modified strat, not some special guitar producing any kind of unique sounds, only capable with what was designed by her. It could play very well, or it could not. That mostly depends on the construction and fine-tuning. But if I ever get a chance of playing one, I'll certainly check it out! If it holds up next to a strat (in a similar price range), I will gladly admit that I have misjudged based on this video. Until that day comes, I will remain skeptical about the priorities behind this design. It is described (in the description) as "a one-of-a-kind innovation on the market" which I highly doubt in the case of this guitar, no matter what kind of 'gender inclusively ergonomics' label you hang on it.
Rue Ryuzaki yeah, they play killer. Really well made instrument. If you watch the Ernie Ball promo, she talks in great detail about the intention and thought she put into making an instrument that suited her playing styles. .. she’s a heavyweight player. I love that about her. Most guitars at this point are just another variant on an old model so I agree with ya there. She makes it clear that her desire was to build upon her old Harmony. & yeah, the “one of a kind” bs. Is just marketing. If you look past all that, you get a very passionate and immensely gifted artist. Have a nice day...
she reminds me of charlie chaplins lovechild...edward scissorhands sister... but good on ernie ball-or her for designing a new shape guitar that looks whacky... i doubt id buy one but i like it for its new kid on the block-ness..
When you see the Edge, no one thinks to say "oh man I think he looks like a door stop" or "oh man, id hit it." No, they focus on what's important, how shitty a guitar player he is. Shouldn't that be the focus here? J/k I actually dig her playing. Her music is a bit poppy for me, but she is a genuinely inventive player with a lot of skill, and at the very least, she's not Jack White.
"I think that music's pretty great"

everything that belongs to music is great.
It looks like something that could have been designed in the 60s. I like it.
because of everything said is why shes so cool plus she plays better than you and me..total artist
What are some guitar songs from her? I haven't heard many but what I've heard was just poppy without any guitar.
She mentioned somewhere that the look was to be like the classic 60's Japanese Teisco guitars and others that were "space age" looking. The headstocks are all the same on MM's.
Really? Nothing else about the guitar but the look? You’re a girl too eh?
Almost looks like an explorer

You can make so many thing with 5 seletion and input
Stunning girl., extremely intelligent., the guitar looks so vintage.
That's almost like a Vox Phantom that's been squeezed in the middle!!
Jack White has a St. Vincent signature guitar and it looks exactly like that!
Shes more beautiful than 98% of cat walk models.
one of the most beautiful people ever. her beauty is boundless
There are about a million videos that you can google of her playing guitar - this one was an interview.
Is that with or without your contact lenses installed?"
sheezabszer
love her
I am not kidding, my second guitar build is gonna be a version of this with a few tweaks for myself.....I mean damn that shape is just off the hook cool, it's retro-modern? The Jetsons house bands guitar player would straight rip on this guitar, the Roswell Rhoads, and hell idk what the 3rd one would be let's go ask VAI!!!? Haaaaaaaa
Wow I didn't think St Vincent's voice would sound like that
she really is a damn fine guitar player. cool to see a female guitar out there.
Annie Clark is kick ass. I wish her signature model guitar was offered in left handed though…
Wow! Almost a bit futuristic looking. Me want! P.S They are a great band too.
Looks like something Klaus Nomi would design. Don't get me wrong, I like it! Can't afford it but whatever.
5 selector cool
are those mini humbuckers? sorry, i can't read. or watch the whole video.
oh, nevermind... I watched the video.
❤️
love a consummate musician
The neck and fret board are the smallest i have ever seen on an electric guitar!! Its very interesting and fun and funny its funny its fun its just fun
she looks tall. is she tall?
She's around 5' 8"
bo diddley had a cool guitar.
how stoned do you have to be to design this one?
I think all guitars need to be minimalist in weight. You use a guitar to entertain, not to have a workout. Besides, weight gets boring after the 1st hour on stage.
Says she’s a gearhead...
Uses a Kemper as her amp.
Has her keyboardist/backing vocalist to trigger her effects.
That’s not a gear head. By any stretch.
She was until her weird self titled record.
She’s not a gear head simply because she doesn’t bring a shitload of stuff on the road and has people trigger her effects?
The interviewer needs to play different guitars then ask the guitars the questions they are asking to it,......plainly speaking. Play them and figure it out. So many questions could be asked that have meaning
If Barbie had a guitar that would be it,
I've played the guitar and I absolutely loved it
I love her music, BUT
I'm not sure if she was caught off guard or something, but what a bad interview. She seemed really uncomfortable and unsure of what she was saying. I guess one could say her confidence is on stage, not infront of a camera.
How many "interviews" do YOU do, sparky?
She should manufacture that signature walk! Lol
"I think music is really great . . . And I designed this guitar so it would flatter what I'm wearing on stage."
Rue Ryuzaki costume is part of her total package performance much like Bowie. She considers all aspects which is very well rounded and thoughtful IMO.
Have a nice day...
she reminds me of charlie chaplins lovechild...edward scissorhands sister... but good on ernie ball-or her for designing a new shape guitar that looks whacky... i doubt id buy one but i like it for its new kid on the block-ness..
that guitar looks like it was made with goldsrc
the asymnetycal musicman tuning pegs head stock always annoyed me
Hourglass guitar
Two words...NECK DIVE....Big design flaw with this guitar.
yeah she really fucked up the head with that design...
Dave Lang It could’ve been rectified by clambering the body and going with something less dense than rosewood for the neck, it still has potential
If Kate Hepburn was a rocker , that would be the guitar she would play at Tiffany's .
cool axe
That’s one sexy looking guitar
trust me wearing a guitar with boobs is hard so her design is amazing for helping with that!
I don’t this lady but I’m sure her name isn’t St Vincent
When you see the Edge, no one thinks to say "oh man I think he looks like a door stop" or "oh man, id hit it." No, they focus on what's important, how shitty a guitar player he is. Shouldn't that be the focus here?
J/k I actually dig her playing. Her music is a bit poppy for me, but she is a genuinely inventive player with a lot of skill, and at the very least, she's not Jack White.
Hamer-ee bowtie shape
