I asked Sterling if they would send me a Goldie AND THEY SAID YES! And im glad they did because I think this might be the most ideal St. Vincent for me to come out so far (Glad I waited). It plays awesome, sounds amazing, feels comfortable against my squishy middle aged dad bod and looks like cool old Cadillac! What else could a boy want?

I am so lucky that 5 years ago I was volunteer stage manager on a music/arts festival in Ireland and popped into a coffee shop before I started work, there was a lady ordering a few takeaway cups and she turned around, smiled and apologised for the delay. Only after talking for a couple of minutes she introduced herself as St.Vincent. She was super sweet and put my name on the guest list for her gig later that night. She is incredible, played guitar like Prince/Hendrix I thought but still a unique talent.❤ Love her guitars. They sound great live for sure.
Thanks for the coffee…btw I am THE St Vincent…I know I know…hold your applause
She rocks so hard
It looks incredible. It’s one of the best modern designs. Annie Clarke is an actual genius. Now they are baking them these Sterling’s now look premium.
I'm a huge fan of St. Vincent's music, so I've wanted one of those guitars for years. I'm really glad to see it get such a good review and to hear it sound so good in the demo. Especially, the Sterling version.
Oh, she's awesome, I think Jack White was touring with some new guitars, Including her signature model.
This looks like a legit new design. Aesthetics can inspire you to play
I remember in an interview, Annie Clark mentioned the switch selection was something different. EB website notes: 1: neck & bridge, 2: all 3 pickups, 3: neck, 4: middle, 5: bridge.
That was the first version from 2017. The Goldie was revised to a strat pickup wiring because she thought it would be more accessible.
@@Onidragon55 sounds about right. I'll have to find a 2017 model
The St.Vincent is honestly one of the best looking and most interesting guitars I've seen in years. In that color? Goddamn
I don't think I'm alone in saying I would love to hear the new band! 🎸
Dude that is an incredible guitar and looks a lot like a Billy Bo. I think that’s where the “Automotive” vibe is coming from. AWESOME . Thank you sir.
As a lover of guitar body designs, I think this is one of the greatest body shapes to arrive in the past 50 years. I am a big bloke and I wonder how a larger body in this shape would look. Great review.
Great video! Always get a good laugh and hear an interesting thought from you Ryan!
Your playing has improved - good on you, Ryan!
Awesome demo, I love it !!!!
The tone is glorious!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for this review. After watching this video I ordered the exact guitar and color. I'm impressed based on your video.
I have and always wanted one of those guitars!
That is a beautiful guitar! love the color and the sound of those pickups! Great choice! Gold pin stripping Hmmmmm!
I really like that guitar. Nice choice.
Looks and sounds great !
Someone told me my BMG Arielle reminded them of an Ernie Ball St. Vincent and I definitely took it as a compliment for all the reasons of how you described the shape!
I was actually looking at a blue one of these (at one that was similar to this one) a couple of years ago and it was on sale. I wish I had bought it ,but money was tight at the time. I knew these could surf.
That Two Princes moment was worth the price of admission. A true showman.
Your descriptions of this guitar are very accurate- LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS ACE AXE! Very cool!
Love this guitar shape.
The Two Princes shtick has a very Homestar Runner vibe about it and it gets me every time. :D
Hey I just wanted to know your thoughts on firebird pickups. Also love that you aren't just another metal/blues demo and mix it up with some rocking surf!
I like it. The color is awesome and unique
This is a fresh design and they are impeccably specked, even the Sterling. I really want one of the blue Music Man’s just as a collection piece if nothing else!
5:19 Totally agree! The diminutive curvy headstock just looks like a mistake with the angular body design. I wish guitar makers would stop with the signature headstocks and create new headstocks for each new design. Especially when it’s a totally unique body design like this. I do agree the reverse headstock is a big step in the right direction.
I've loved these ever since I first saw them. One day I'll get one! I also love the musicman Armada. Probably the coolest les paul type guitar by quite a bit imo.
Nice Looking Guitar 🎸🎶
Thanks For Sharing 🎸 🎶 🎶 🎶 🎶
The "Upper FIN"! This is definitely what you needed to wait for. It was calling to you......
I have one of the very early blue Saint Vincents with the all Rosewood neck. Interestingly, as much as I am a gear swapper, I have had this guitar for probably the longest amount of time out of all my guitars. One of the things that did not work for me about this guitar was the electronics. When I initially got it, I was using three separate guitars for gigging. This was the only guitar I could not swap directly between and not have to change amp settings. This is due to the 250 K pots that were stock in the guitar. I ended up gutting electronics and putting in a super switch and to 500 K pots. Opened up the guitar up immensely. I also opted for a configuration that works for my taste and rig. It’s neck series/neck parallel, then middle/bridge parallel, then bridge series/bridge parallel. Huge array of tones, and the guitar is an absolute keeper. It’s one of the best instruments I’ve ever owned, and there have been a few.
My Sterling Mariposa is my favorite guitar ever. I think you'd really dig it as well. Fun shape, humbuckers, PINK. But same picking problem that you're having here and I have to consciously pick farther back so I pick between the pickups.
I love those. They look like something Fred Flintstone would play.
Love it!
Keep on keeping it weird my dude!
Odd. I've always thought this shape was perfectly suited to st Vincent. The blue one especially reminds me of a pencil dress, which tends not to look very good on a dad bod.
I have the original music man. It works. Feels small but doesn't look comedically tiny either.
Looks like a tuxedo or a bowtie
It's for people with tits, dude.
Speak for yourself. ;-)
Well maybe not your dad…
really dig that guitar :)
Wow!! I’ve never seen one of these before! Like an early 60’s American car!
Awesome stuff, can you ask the folks at Sterling to make a bass version? Keep killing it my dude.
Id be happy with a baritone but bass would be rad.
so the unfortunate back story is there was one. Annie was openly talking about music man releasing a bass version when her sig guitar was released. it was a passive 30" short scale that she was designing with pino pallandino. it never came out and 2 years later music man quietly announced it had killed the project. the only thing music man has ever done that truly disappointed me. Annie later said pino owns the prototype.
@@itsratso. They body is hers drop 2 Stingray pickups in that joint and lets go!! Make it light blue and tell a brother when he can get one.
Love that guitar and color choice. My only issue is I don't understand why all guitars don't have recessed backplates.
I had the opportunity to try out an EB MM St. Vincent guitar. It had mini hbd on it. It struck me as a cross between a Firebird and a Strat essentially. I think if I were to get one, Sterling with the mini hbs would be the way I would go. Great demo. Lots of playing interspersed with your impressions. I dig your Tone King.
I’m not always a fan of your guitar styles (the sparkly gold ones and over the top surfboard ones are just not my thing) but lately you’ve been tempting me greatly 😭 this and the Guild Surfliner have got me THIRSTY
I like everything about it except that headstock. It sounds great though, Apache in particular.
I think it would be great to use whatever guitar you felt like. Would love to get acquainted with some of those on the wall
I like the Elastica riff. And I LOVE the guitar. Really good demo.
This body shape to me is if you had a few cold ones and tried to draw the Budweiser logo from memory. Maybe that’s just me haha 😂
There’s something explorer-ish about it, too. I’m loving the Albert Lee shape lately, too. Kind of a similar vibe.
100% with you on the reversed headstock working really well with the St. Vincent body. This guitar is still on my list of instruments I really want to try, just to have something a little different in the collection.
I play in a 90s type post punk band. Mini buckers fit the bill perfectly. Have to agree with Ryan here
I'm really hesitating between this one and the new Albert Lee P90 version in Sherwood Green!
You are a stronger man than I if you could wait WEEKS to open it. I tipping the very nice UPS lady who delivered it to my hotel room and had the box torn open practically before the door was shut on my hotel room.....and that was just for the HH exactly like you played at Thomann. When the MM Goldies came out I nearly preordered one even though $3K for a guitar is insane for me...completely.
I think I fainted when these came out (true story, seriously!) because I didn't have the money and if I don't get one I may die. (also a true story.)
Like it good job
The guitar looks great on her
A black pickguard would look sick
Awesome guitar. You should play the he'll out of it in all of your new vids for a while. You sold me on it. There is one local to me, and I'm going to try it out tomorrow with the intention of buying it.
Does it do the in between Strat tones? All 3 pickup guitars should do that.
I'm down for your style. I'm so glad your review is for this. I have a 85' Carvin V220. It's the right star shape. If you ever do one on reverb with the kahler you will VIBRATE. You deserve the fancy. Your show = RAD.
Hell yea, I just got mine in gold after some wait. I love it but I intend on swapping out all the pickups to more gold foil-y gold foils
I’d really love a 3 mini-bucker strat one day
honestly cannot wait to get one of these, after getting a sterling valentine i told myself if i ever bought a guitar over $5k it was going to be a music man (i love prs guitars, but their s2 line in the sweet spot for me), these sterlings punch WAY above their weight
22:18 that sounded absolutely POWERFUL
I've really grown to love mini humbuckers! I only have on e guitar with them, and it has such a nice sound. I'd love one of these, but want to wait until I can find a music man version. the sterlings I've seen all have some sort of qc issues.
Im a telecaster enjoyer but im also into weird and outlandish stuff of all kinds
Klaus Nomi is awesome. I thought that was so cool when I saw that St. Vincent designed a guitar to look like Klaus Nomi in guitar world magazine.
If I got one I would want the black and white full pick guard one so it looks most like Klaus Nomi.
I have one of the original black St Vincents. I named it Klaus for that exact reason.
@@Artefracture that's so freakin awesome! You definitely rock!!
I think it's a very cool guitar. It reminds me of The Jetsons.
The Twang's the thang !!!
Kinda reminds me of my 58 desoto. I’m a fan
This could be the perfect guitar for 40s and up guys like me 😂
I bought a donner guitar a while ago from watching your channel I kept most of it the same except tuners I changed and I put a paf pro dimarzio in the bridge which is very great pickup for the guitar. Kept everything else stock it's one of my favorite guitars and was only 239.99 USD
Your channel rocks man love the Harley Benton guitars too 🎸 🔥 being a Jackson Fender Schecter Peavey lover the donner guitar holds its own weight.
Been wanting to try one, although I can already see I can't make friends with that scale neck unless it's slim profile.
entertaining show, good content, nice description and the aesthetics are nice, but it sounds extremely raunchy, is that your amp?😮lr does it need a setup?
Probably just my playing
Dude! It's a Budweiser logo as a guitar!🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣👍✨
Mastercard logo fret markers :)
Looking for the tuner was me when I was trying to go drop D on a Firebird with the fancy Steinberger tuners. “Why’s this not detuning… oh. Is drop high D a thing?”
The only good thing about Mustang tailpieces is you can use the trem without the bar. It's cool MM noticed that it's a cool feature and decided to do something similar, but with a better design.
I'd like to see you check out the new Sterling Albert Lee with P90s if you get a chance.
Apologies if anyone has already asked this and I just haven't seen it in the questions, but the riff around the 24 minute mark are you going Three Girl Rhumba by Wire or Connection by Elastica? (I know they're the same, other than one was an original piece of wrk and the other not so much)
the first part of the riff i was playing Wire and the second part i was playing elastica just to keep it fair.
Minibuckers are also growing on me. Great combination of dynamics and cut like single coils and sweetness and girth like humbuckers without as much mud. That Harmony Silhouette or the Jupiter would be perfect but I am looking to find something under a $1000 if new. Too bad Fender/Squier don’t make a Jag, Mustang, Duo Sonic, or Tele with minibuckers or Firebird style pickups at sub-$1000 price point.
Epiphone has a Wilshire type object with mini buckers in the $500s.
You could totally put mini humbuckers in the P90 player series Mustang... you've given me an idea...
Minibuckers carrying yet another guitar model. Truly one of the GOAT pickups right up there with 50s era spec P90s.
Damn, now I'm torn between this and the 150th Anniversary Epiphone Crestwood in California Coral. How is it that you make me want every guitar you review? But seriously, between those two, which would ultimately be your choice and why?
Any overlap between this and the epiphone crestwood anniversary?
I’m here for the extra two Princetons jingle
Did they make left handed versions?
what is the blue amp in the back right?
Most surfy shapes seem more Flintstones, this seems more Jetsons.
I really lust after that. But the Sterling Cutlass I have is definitely made with bigger paws Ryan mine in mind. I mean, I can play it just fine, but forty minutes of practice leaves my palm aching where that soft V presses into it. So, sounds cool, but. And yes, I did try it first in the store. I though it would grow into it, but that hasn’t happened. Only guitar I’ve ever realized I have to sell.
it drips, but does it surf?
how would people describe the neck on this guitar? i currently play an ibanez azes40 it’s a c style neck. is the st vincent neck similar? i don’t really love super flat necks how is this one?
Sterling is doing a version of this?! I’ve died and gone to Heaven!
Now - is the original STV blue version is still in production? I’m gonna be tempted to spend some money…
I'm really interested in this guitar and i saw someone say the body shape made it hard for them to access the highest frets. Did you have any difficulties with that in your experience?
nope, but im not exactly a shredder.
it just took 2 days for me to setup my Goldie. It finally feels and sounds pretty good. I forget how much work it takes to get these budget guitars up to par. and poop, I didnt have the option for a gig bag
has anyone ever made this style guitar in lefty?
Would you say these pups sound like Gibson Firebirds or Les Paul Deluxe-s?
This is a beauty. I'm fairly certain our tastes align in many ways... very cool guitar and nice commentary. Oh, and should you ever want to give away that SX... Ha. No, really. Oh, if we find guitars we think you would like, how do we let you know? In the comments? He writes from six months in the future. Thanks!
My EBMM St Vincent is 6 lb 9 oz. Super comfortable.
that is very light!
i like the classic sci-fi shape of this, kind of reminds me of the eastwood jr in some ways. rad.
It's meant to look like Klaus Nomi's outfit, and he claimed to be from another planet, so yeah, definitely sci-fi.. lol
These are pretty cool looking. When I first saw them I thought the body looked like a bowtie. They should have put some sharper angles onto the headstock shape to match the body.
It's meant to look like Klaus Nomi's signature outfit.
Not a fan of the color, but I do like the look of those guitars...and the sound you got out of the one you have. I like the bevels! They add a nice retro appliance or automotive design touch.
What is the green guitar?
What is the body made from?
I'll have to stop watcning and pick it back up later but so far I haven't heard you correct the pickup wiring. If it's anything like the original St. Vincents then it's not standard at all and has an all 3 and a Bridge/neck position, as well as one for each individual pickup.
